In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the October episode of the "I am a Mainframer" podcast features Luciano Gimeno, LinuxONE Sales Manager of North & Latin America at IBM. Host Steven Dickens, VP and Practice Leader at The Futurum Group, takes a deep dive into Luciano's journey from a z/OS programmer to a LinuxONE sales leader and how he embraced the continuous change in the mainframe world. Hailing from Argentina, Luciano has dedicated nearly two decades to the mainframe world. His career trajectory is a testament to his dedication and the versatility and dynamism that mainframes offer. Beginning as a z/OS system programmer, Luciano transitioned to a more sales-oriented role while retaining his technical roots. Their conversation emphasized the benefits of continuous learning. Adaptability is key, whether it's the shift from a purely technical role to a client-facing one or the evolution of the mainframe from its early days to the present hybrid cloud era. Luciano's journey at IBM is a testament to this. Despite being in the mainframe space for almost two decades, his role and responsibilities have constantly evolved, underlining the importance of staying updated and adaptable. Luciano's insights also offer encouragement to newcomers in the tech world. He started with a strong technical foundation, working deeply embedded in the nuances of the z/OS. With time, he progressed, embracing sales, client interactions, and a broader landscape of mainframe functionalities – from z/OS administration to spearheading LinuxONE sales across the Americas. His success is partly due to the support he has received from his mentors in the mainframe community. As he and Steven highlighted, while the mainframe community is closely knit, industry veterans readily share their expertise with those new to the arena, fostering a culture of growth and knowledge-sharing. This is an inspiring conversation you won't want to miss!

On this episode of the Futurum Tech Podcast – Interview Series, Ron Westfall and Steven Dickens are joined by distinguished guests Andy Hartland, Senior Consultant at Mainline Information Systems and Andrew Gracey, Product Manager for Developer Experience as SUSE. Our discussion focused on the major trends and drivers as well as the main challenges in optimizing container management capabilities across swiftly evolving developer and IT Operations environments. Aligned with our discussion, we drilled down in our latest white paper, SUSE's Innovation Engine Roars: SUSE Rancher Now on IBM zSystems and LinuxONE — done in partnership with SUSE — to explore why many organizations such as Mainline Information Systems rely on IBM's zSystems and LinuxONE infrastructure to fulfill their container and Kubernetes requirements. How open-source adoption and IT operations that rely on technologies like Kubernetes running on IBM zSystems and LinuxONE based platforms can use SUSE Rancher to drive transformation without sacrificing the power of rapidly emerging new operational cloud-native paradigms. Our conversation with Andy and Andrew highlighted the following top considerations: What were Mainline's main objectives for adopting SUSE Rancher Why customers want SUSE Rancher on their mainframes Mainline's experience in adopting SUSE Rancher How customers are gaining value from SUSE Rancher implementations Why organizations should consider adopting SUSE Rancher over do-it-yourself Kubernetes implementations It was a great and stimulating conversation and one you don't want to miss. Interested in learning more about SUSE Rancher on IBM zSystems and LinuxONE? Want to learn more about the SUSE Rancher portfolio and why it's well-suited to fulfilling the pivot to containerized microservices and reimagining cloud native infrastructures? Our guest on the podcast this week is Priya Doty. Priya is the Global VP Product Marketing for IBM’s iconic IBM Z brand and it’s all-Linux sister brand, LinuxONE. Unlike a lot of marketers, Priya has also been a developer, which means she enjoys deconstructing marketing messages by reading technical manuals. Based in Brooklyn, she is a mom, wife, and author of an upcoming fiction novel. Aside from majoring on the topic of Confidential Computing (and Cloud Security in general), Priya is all about the IBM Z platform, Product Marketing (Top 100 Influencer in PMM 2-Years Running!), and outside of work, writing. Confidential computing is a cloud computing technology that isolates sensitive data in a protected CPU enclave during processing. The contents of the enclave - the data being processed, and the techniques used to process it - are accessible only to authorized programming code, and invisible and unknowable to anything or anyone else, including the cloud provider. Gartner has called confidential computing a top trend for 2021, naming it and Fully Homomorphic Encryption as part of a trend for “Privacy Enhanced Computation”. Welcome back for another episode of Z DevOps Talks. We know things are a bit hectic now and most people are probably stuck indoors. So maybe take a listen to our latest episode to help break up the monotony! In our latest episode, we talk with Matt Cousens, a Developer Advocate for IBM Z and LinuxONE. Matt flew into the RTP campus for a (post-quarantine) Developer Advocate event. And while he was here, he carved some time out of his schedule to discuss the work he and other Developer Advocates are doing in IBM Z and LinuxONE. You're probably wondering what a Developer Advocate does. Well we certainly discuss this during the episode, but to give you a bit of background on Developer Advocates; they are our globally federated IBM developers, the ones actively working with and alongside our clients. Our Developer Advocates are responsible for developing our Code Patterns, actively working on more than 100 open source projects, and a curating our library of knowledge resources. The Code Patterns deserve some special attention though. As a library of complete solutions to problems that developers face every day, these patterns leverage multiple technologies, products, or services to solve issues that our developer advocates have recognized as common use cases across multiple industries. You can check out our library here. Our Developer Advocates are collaborators too! Maybe you need to better understand where blockchain technology fits in your company's transactions. Maybe you are moving towards an Omnichannel customer support structure and you want to build a chat bot to interact with your customers. Whatever it is, Developer Advocates exist to help clients understand and take advantage of cutting edge, open technologies and to accelerate that next great project.
