I'm so excited for today's guest: Olivia Cheng! I've been following Olivia's work for years—from Marco Polo to Warrior , and now her directorial debut, I am Raquel Welch and latest film Lucky Star. She's often recognized for her presence on screen, but there's so much more to her: sharp, soulful, and deeply intentional. The post 421. Get Season Two of Pillow Talk HERE: https://pillowtalkpod.com"Consistently across the board these are becoming increasingly hard for me to watch," says Christi for what might be the millionth time since Kelly departed the show, but she's also nothing if consistent! And as the second half of "Presenting My New Team" begins the new moms and the OG's are already at each other's throats, or at the very least Christy is making enemies with just about everyone including her fellow new recruits. The only solace the team gets from Christy is going to a "bar" where she won't go due to the alcohol. However Kira and Tracey are unable to reconcile their differences and the meeting ends in tears. Meanwhile Melissa is trying to play both sides, pledging loyalty to the OG's while still not willing to spy on the Elite team for them.Competition day arrives and the ALDC dances are all over the place. Kendall and Kalani's "Rule the World" lands with a thud while Ava and Sarah R's "Birds of a Feather Flock Together" gets a mild reception. Better off are Kamryn and Chloe's solos which perform exceptionally well. Chloe's "Lucky Star" remains a favorite, showcasing how much work she put in to prove herself in a team where she's being increasingly singled out as a target. However, behind the scenes Abby was working to once again pull the spotlight off a Chloe. On camera Abbys sabotage is clearly visible in the team's dueling group dances. Not only does the Elite team get the benefit of having lyrical dance, but the OG's are forced to dance in boots!Oh and if that wasn't enough, Cathy joins the fray. Why is she present when her team isn't performing? Because why not!Quotes“I'm anxious to see Holly come out of her shell a little bit. Has she peed in the shower yet? No!" (2:40-2:46 | Christi & Kelly)“Their kids very rarely got treated as poorly as our kids.” (18:54-18:58 | Christi)“You know I'm noticing a pattern here. Melissa doesn't get along with Christis." (21:16-21:21 | Christi)“I think the people she picked aren't the best. Like if you could pick the best of anybody in the world, I don't know where she came up with these people." The world works in awfully strange ways sometimes. We had been having a blast recording our episodes on the Lucky Stars series, and we were looking forward to discussing the final film of the initial trilogy, Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars, for a multitude of reasons. Amongst those, are the stellar action scenes found throughout the film, particularly the finale, in which a trio of deadly assassins take on our lovable bunch of misfits in an epic throwdown! One of the most memorable aspects of this extremely hard-hitting and kinetic sequence is the battle between the legendary Sammo Hung and martial arts maestro Richard Norton. We were scheduled to record on Saturday, but work related events postponed our recording by a couple of days. Little did we know, that within that time frame, our mate Richard would suddenly pass away. Shocked, devastated, and utterly confused by the news, we initially decided to postpone our episode until a later point in time. Upon much reflection though, we ultimately came to the conclusion that we should move forward with the episode. Listen in as we breakdown why we enjoy this film so much, the similarities and differences between it and its predecessors, and our future plans for paying tribute to the wonderful human being that was Richard Norton. Don't forget to subscribe, download, like, and share with your friends! Thanks again for your continued support and we hope you enjoy.
THE Sales Japan Series by Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan
Luck is the nexus of hard work and persistence. Salespeople need some luck, even if they have to create it themselves. That old blues refrain “If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all” can't apply. We have to make our own luck and here are seven luck creation principles we can start using immediately to help us get there. No fancy varsity degrees or puffed up IQ scores needed. Common sense that morphs to common practice is all we need to change our luck in sales. Arouse in the other person an eager want Salespeople are consumed by what they want and it is usually getting enough commission to be able to eat. Buyers don't purchase for any other reason than getting what they want. Our job is to communicate in such a way the client realises they have a want they didn't recognize or give sufficient import to previously. Opportunity cost is a measure which shows that taking no action is not a zero cost option. Clients are not in a static market, their competitors are still alive and hungry for market share. Talk in terms of the other person's interests We have to show that taking action today is needed and that argument has to be based around a good understanding of what the client needs as opposed to wants. If we honestly have the buyers interests foremost in our minds we can build the trust needed to secure the business. The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it Salespeople arguing with buyers is the silliest thing in the world. Nevertheless, there are legions of salespeople out there trying to slam square pegs into round holes and make a deal fit which should never even be a consideration. Trying to overpower the buyer to drive them through force of will to buy is ridiculous, has always been ridiculous and will remain ridiculous. Some salespeople don't learn however. Let the other person do a great deal of the talking Talkative salespeople lose a lot of potential business. Being good in sales means being a tremendously good listener. Understanding what the client needs is critical to providing a match that works between what you are selling and the gap in the clients business which they need to fix. When I realise I have violated the 20/80 ratio of salesperson to buyer occupying the airwaves I shut up and ask a question to get them talking. We all need to be alert to our proclivity to love the sound of our own voice. Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view What are the buyer's fears, headaches and aspirations? If we don't know these answers then we are not doing our job as salespeople. Force feeding our pitch down the buyer's throat is stupid, but so many salespeople do just that. They launch straight into their widget pitch without finding out what the buyer needs. Something so basic, but so commonly missed in sales. Ask questions instead of making statements If I say it, as a salesperson, it might be true, but if the buyers says it, then it is 100% true without any doubt. Our communication skills are called upon to make sure we ditch every opportunity to tell the client something and rather replace that statement with the same information, but now reconstituted as a question. For example, “we have overnight delivery” is statement. Rather than trotting this out, we say instead, “would having overnight delivery be of value to your business”. If they say yes, then we can talk about how we do that. If they say “no”, then we keep fishing for what is of value to them by asking questions Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest We want action. We want the order right now, without delay. We don't want buyers to think about it or worse, agree in principle and then do nothing about it. We need them motivated to buy. What will success mean for them in their business? What can we do to help them become even more successful? If we can wrap our sale up in those flags of self-interest, then they will buy and will they buy right now. Keep these principles in your mind when talking to clients. They are not complex to remember, but are complex to execute. Well, that is sales and that is the requirement. Get on to them fright now, delay no more and make sales today.
This week, we are taking a look at the second film in the Lucky Stars series, appropriately titled, ‘My Lucky Stars'! An early example of what can be considered a “requel”, this film acts primarily as a reboot of the series, taking an almost identical formula from the first one, with most of the same cast returning, an ups the stakes with even crazier action, international locales, and zany comedy scenarios that are definitely not as family friendly as the first film's! Listen in as we break down this action classic, that cranks the martial arts mayhem up to an 11, while simultaneously taking the humor in a whole new, and far less innocent direction. This time around, Gavin and I are starting our deep dive into the Lucky Stars series, with its very first entry- ‘Winners and Sinners'! Listen in as we break down one of our all-time favorite Hong Kong comedies, that just so happens to also have some stellar martial arts action! The first in the long running Lucky Stars series, this first entry is an often underrated and forgotten gem that might actually be the strongest standalone film of the entire series! Balancing that fine line between local and universal in terms of the comedy, as well as being a groundbreaking piece in terms of contemporary fight choreography in Hong Kong martial arts cinema, ‘Winners and Sinners' is an absolute must for anyone that is a fan of the genre! Listen in as we break down what makes this film so iconic, where it succeeded where other entries in the series failed, and why the comedy is so relatable even to this day! Drawing parallels to recent shifts on Twitter (now known as X), they debate the implications of this move on the spread of misinformation, community trust, and the overall health of online discourse. With thoughtful commentary and sharp analysis, the hosts examine whether this policy shift marks a new era for digital communication or if it poses unforeseen challenges for truth and accountability online. As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. Part 2 of our Kyoto Vacation chronicles ‘When Christmas Came to Otaku Town,' and following the wild success of Haruhi Suzumiya, Kyoto Animation moved on to one of the defining slice-of-life anime comedies, 2007's Lucky Star! Simultaneously a very dry, down-to-earth ‘atmospheric' show and an absolutely absurd slice of post-modern anime surrealism, Lucky Star is a singularly entertaining show. Based on the 4-panel manga by Kagami Yoshimizu, Lucky Star in anime form quickly takes on a life of its own as the artists at Kyoto Animation find themselves reacting to the Haruhi Suzumiya phenomenon and the changing shape of anime fandom within the text of the show, and also saw some behind-the-scenes turmoil as original director Yamamoto Yutaka was fired after just 4 episodes. We dive into all of that history, discuss our favorite jokes and characters, and celebrate the delirious insanity that is Lucky Channel on this jam-packed episode! Enjoy, and come back next week as we review the infamous ‘Endless Eight' episodes from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2! Part 2 of our Kyoto Vacation chronicles ‘When Christmas Came to Otaku Town,' beginning with a look at the first season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Based on the light novels by Nagaru Tanigawa, Haruhi is a seminal work of 21st century anime, with the first 14 episodes from 2006 creating an absolute sensation with major impacts on the future of the industry. It's also an incredible set of episodes, presented in an out-of-chronology ‘shuffle order' mixing stories from all over the Haruhi timeline in with a 6-part adaptation of the eponymous first light novel. It's a structure that throws the viewer in the deep end, but also leads to a deeply compelling engagement with these off-beat characters and their very strange world, one that pays emotional dividends by the end. We talk about all of that, the history of the series, and the idea behind ‘moe' on this very exciting episode! Enjoy, and come back next week as we review the 2007 ‘slice of life' comedy Lucky Star!
