Unions are disputing the Government's reasoning for scrapping living wage contract rules. This move is part of a wider proposal to simplify the procurement process for companies wanting Government contracts. Council of Trade Unions President, Richard Wagstaff, says the argument that small businesses are missing out because they can't afford wages doesn't make sense. "What it is, basically, is a standard. And everyone bidding for Government contracts has to meet the same standard, so there's no disadvantage to a small, medium or large businesses. They're all on the same playing field." Wagstaff explained that small businesses can be competitive. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When Kevin Wagstaff and his brother bootstrapped Spectora, a SaaS platform for home inspectors, with just $2,500 each, they never expected to one day face an $80 million acquisition offer. Spectora transformed the home inspection industry by replacing outdated paper reports with a digital platform that streamlined workflows, saved inspectors time, and enhanced the client experience. But when an acquirer attempted to re-trade the deal at the last minute—adding a $25 million seller's note, a $10 million earn-out, and a 36-month call option—Kevin learned a hard lesson: just because an offer is on the table doesn't mean the deal is done. The acquirer assumed Kevin and his brother would be too invested in the deal to walk away. But thanks to their advisor's guidance, they stood firm. The result? The acquirer backtracked, offering the original terms. Kevin and his brother still walked, ultimately selling a majority stake at a $90 million valuation to a better partner.

In this captivating clip of Market Mondays, hosts Ian Dunlap and Troy Millings sit down with William Wagstaff, a civil rights attorney striving to become the district attorney. By highlighting his deep personal experiences and robust understanding of the justice system, Wagstaff provides a vivid picture of what it means to hold this critical position, particularly within black and brown communities.*Time Stamps:**[00:00]* - Introduction: Transformative Insights from Mount Vernon's Own Troy Millings introduces William Wagstaff, speaking to his impressive journey from being formerly justice-involved to an NBA civil rights attorney and now running for district attorney. Wagstaff's unique perspective offers valuable insights for viewers from all walks of life.*[00:19]* - What Does a District Attorney Do? Wagstaff demystifies the role of a district attorney, shedding light on the multitude of responsibilities such as deciding who gets charged with crimes, recommending sentences during plea deals, and advocating for or against bail. His description underscores the crucial influence a district attorney possesses in shaping fair and just legal outcomes.*[02:30]* - Addressing Systemic Issues in the Justice System Through a compelling argument, Wagstaff explains how historically, district attorneys have often overlooked the socio-economic drivers of crime. He posits that addressing these fundamental issues—such as lack of educational and financial opportunities, broken homes, and gang involvement—can lead to a more equitable justice system without compromising safety.*[04:13]* - The Need for Comprehensive Social Services William emphasizes the necessity of viewing social issues like drug addiction, mental health, and the opioid crisis as public safety concerns. He argues that re-investing in underserved communities could reduce crime rates and recidivism, offering a long-term solution to many systemic problems.*[05:16]* - Political and Financial Incentives for Incarceration: A Call for Advocacy Wagstaff discusses the financial incentives that fuel mass incarceration and urges district attorneys to advocate for best practices. He stresses the importance of the electorate demanding intentional investment in youth programs, mental health services, and drug rehabilitation to create a safe and just society.*[07:44]* - Holding Police Accountable Highlighting his role as a special prosecutor for police discipline in Mount Vernon, Wagstaff advocates for independent oversight to ensure accountability within police forces. He argues for the establishment of an independently elected Inspector General to monitor police misconduct, thereby removing internal biases and relational interference.*[10:16]* - Professional Licensing for Police Officers In a striking proposition, Wagstaff suggests that police officers should be required to hold a professional license, similar to real estate agents or medical professionals. This licensing would include individual malpractice insurance, adding a financial incentive for officers to maintain good conduct, thus ensuring accountability and ethical behavior in law enforcement.Join us for this enlightening episode of Market Mondays as William Wagstaff outlines a comprehensive vision for transforming the justice system. From prosecutorial discretion to police accountability, Wagstaff's insights make a compelling case for systemic change and community-focused justice.*Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more in-depth discussions on market trends, social issues, and financial literacy!*#MarketMondays #WilliamWagstaff #DistrictAttorney #JusticeReform #PoliceAccountability #SocialJustice #LegalSystem #CivilRights #PublicSafetyOur Sponsors:* Check out Monarch Money: www.monarchmoney.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/marketmondays/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Today's guest carries out an incredibly important role representing the whole London Market in the UK's corridors of power. That means looking out for a market that wrote over $100bn in core gross written premium and controlled just under $160bn in all in 2022, increasing its global market share to over 8 per cent. That also means representing a market that now employs some 60,000 people and produces two percent of UK GDP and eight-and-a-half percent of London's GDP. Caroline Wagstaff, CEO of the London Market Group, was born to do a job like this. She's passionate and very difficult to say no to, but she's also a great communicator and is very good at reading a room and understanding a collective mood. The London Market Group (or the LMG) allows Lloyd's, Liiba, the IUA and the LMA to speak with one voice on broad London Market-related topics and in this Episode we dissect the LMG's latest London Matters Report and catch up with what is now top of the LMG's busy agenda. The Report is an essential companion to this episode and there will be a link to it in the Notes – I highly recommend a read – it isn't long and is packed full of very useful facts about the London market's place in the global risk ecosystem, as a well as its direction of travel. Caroline is on excellent form in this discussion and the podcast is crackling with energy. I for one am extremely glad that we have been able to get someone of her calibre to represent us as an industry. London has been doing relatively well of late but listening back to this recording it's clear that there is zero complacency at the LMG. It's clear that Caroline is not going to rest until the UK government and regulators are working harder to make it do even better. This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! In the fall of 2001, while the world struggled to recover from the disaster of September 11th, 2001, writer Patty Wilson was contacted by a security guard who had a chilling encounter to share but did not know who to share it with. This episode of The Grave Talks is presented in one full piece and not broken into two parts. Due to the magnitude and nature of this topic, We felt this story should be presented in its entirety to anyone who chooses to listen. Some of the subject matter discussed in today's episode may be upsetting, so personal discretion is advised. In the fall of 2001, while the world struggled to recover from the disaster of September 11th, 2001, writer Patty Wilson was contacted by a security guard who had a chilling encounter to share but did not know who to share it with. The world at that time was struggling to go on a day-to-day, and there was little room for “ghost stories” to be told in such dangerous times. However, Robert Wagstaff wasn't out to tell a story for attention; he simply wanted someone to listen and possibly make sense of the encounters and experiences he was having at the tragic crash site of United 93 in Shanksville, PA. Late one night, Patty Wilson sat down with Mr. Wagstaff in a little pizza parlor to hear his story. In today's episode of The Grave Talks, we listen to what was discussed that night and the experiences Mr. Wagstaff went through keeping watch over the crash site of United 93. How do we work in a way that is sustainable and avoids burnout, while still being successful? This is a difficult question for women to answer, with a 2023 survey of Australian working women finding that 54% reported increased levels in stress. Another 30% experienced ongoing burnout and 16% left their jobs in 2022 citing lack of flexibility. Today, I'm joined by the wonderful Jo Wagstaff, internationally renowned leadership coach and speaker. She has worked with many premier Australian and global firms to support thousands of professionals to embrace the power of conscious, authentic leadership. Jo has recently written her book, Lead Like You, a roadmap for women to lead more authentic and fulfilling lives. In this episode, we're talking about just that. Jo takes us through her earlier years of working in the corporate world, where she seemingly had it all. However, a pivotal moment in her life (at a party hosted by James Packer, no less!), along with a season of loss and grief, caused her to step away. We hear about the following messy years, where she became a person and mother she wasn't proud of, and how she made the conscious decision to change her life. We talk about the limiting beliefs formed in childhood that often drive us to overwork as adults. Jo talks about how writing her book helped her unpack how her experiences shaped her, and how she found self-acceptance on the journey. So many of us struggle to find true meaning in our lives. We're overloaded by society's expectations on how to be, work and raise children. Jo talks about the importance of self-reflection, boundary-setting and values alignment to combat this. She also believes it's not just about leaning in; it's about knowing when to step back and breathe. There's no question that this world needs successful women. Those breaking glass ceilings, sitting at the top of the decision making tree and helping to develop the world that we want to live in. For Jo, it's about how to make them successful in a way that still feels meaningful. Her motto? Know yourself, care for yourself and be yourself. What is really driving you? As Jo says: our greatest strengths, when overplayed, become our greatest weaknesses. So join us today as we uncover the secrets to combating burnout and finding our true, authentic purpose in life. Many of us quit drinking because it's not working for us anymore. We feel depleted and deprived. Which is why periods of sobriety can feel like such a relief. When you finally break the cycle of indulgence and deprivation, your eyes are opened to how much more there is to life, to yourself and to your relationships. Once you realize that alcohol blocks the source of your own wisdom and intuition, your focus shifts to the bigger picture. Your bandwidth for greatness begins to expand. Saying “no” to a drink feels like saying “yes” to yourself. Sobriety is a personal revolution. It gives you the freedom to choose--who you are, what you want and how to move forward. After years of living under the oppressive belief that you aren't capable of controlling yourself, liberation is like a new pair of shoes...you gotta break them in. Join Mary Wagstaff and I for a gentle and enlightening conversation about how to apply the sacred gift we give ourselves...sobriety. Find Mary at on her website and Instagram. Did you know AI bots can hallucinate? The term doesn't mean that Chat GPT is taking drugs (!!) - instead it's a technical term to reflect the fact that AI can ‘invent or derive answers to questions that it doesn't have a direct answer for. In other words, not everything that a bot states is true and, in their own way, bots are gaslighting or promoting ideas that appear to be based on fact. In this episode, Jeremy Wagstaff, technology journalist, explains more about AI's “hallucination” and raises other thought-provoking questions such as the fact that the people who will be most affected by AI were not consulted or considered when it was developed. In short, AI is rapidly developing into something that no-one has forecast or has planned for. Jeremy Wagsatff, is one of the world's foremost technology journalists. A writer, consultant and good friend of Chris, he has over 35 years of experience, working with organizations like the BBC, Reuters, and The Wall Street Journal. The secrets and struggles of female aerobatics legend Patty Wagstaff Patty Wagstaff (née Patricia Rosalie Kearns Combs; born September 11, 1951)[1] is an American aviator and U.S. national aerobatic champion. Wagstaff was introduced to aviation as a child; her father was a pilot for Japan Airlines. After graduating from high school in California, she moved to Australia for five years where she traveled up the west coast of Australia in a small single-engine boat with no radio. After moving to Alaska in 1978, she worked for the Bristol Bay Native Association in Dillingham, Alaska where she started taking flying lessons and began her own career as a pilot. Her first flight in a small airplane in the Alaskan bush ended in a crash and that was when she decided to learn to fly. Her first lesson was in a Cessna 185. After earning her single and multi-engine land, single engine sea and commercial and instrument ratings, she became a Certified Flight and Instrument Instructor. Since then Wagstaff has earned a commercial rotorcraft rating and has flown many types of aircraft. She holds type ratings in the TBM Avenger, T-28, L-39 and Tucano.
