Tim is finally back. We start with the Giro d'Italia and Maya Kingma's move into professional cycling, as she continues to show that triathletes can successfully make the transition to the pro peloton. Cassandre Beaugrand then adds another achievement to an already remarkable year by breaking the French 5km record. Supertri Austin follows, where the conversation turns to what has happened to the series. Once one of the most exciting products in the sport, Austin felt like a shadow of what Supertri used to be. T100 Spain delivered plenty of talking points, including Georgia Taylor-Brown securing the first T100 win of her career. Ironman Lanzarote saw Sam Laidlow get the better of Patrick Lange, while Lucy Charles-Barclay returned to long-distance racing with a dominant victory. We finish with WTCS Alghero. Olympic qualification is now underway, both fields are loaded with talent, and we discuss why WTCS continues to deliver some of the best racing in the sport, along with the improvements that have been made to the broadcast. Endurance Nerd Talk – Über Ausdauersport und Triathlon: Training, Equipment, Ernährung, Szene
Race Week!

In this episode:In the medical mailbag for this episode, Jeff and Juliet tackle a topic that's been buzzing in the triathlon community: low-carb fueling strategies. Jeff navigates the murky waters of nutritional science, pointing out the absurdity of some claims while also acknowledging the success of those who swear by a low-carb diet. The discussion is peppered with anecdotes and real-world examples that make the science feel less like a lecture and more like a chat over coffee. They break down a recent paper that has people questioning everything they knew about endurance fueling, concluding that while low-carb may work for some, it's hardly a one-size-fits-all solution—especially for those of us who just want to finish a race and maybe grab a burger afterward. The podcast is a reminder that while we train hard for our goals, life happens, and it's okay to take a moment to acknowledge that. Then, the Ironman Texas race is shaping up to be an absolute circus of talent, and if you thought picking a winner was hard before, well, good luck now! With a field so stacked it could topple over, we're talking about defending champs, world champions, and a slew of hungry up-and-comers all vying for glory. You've got names like Kristia Blumenfeldt, Patrick Lange, and the legendary Lionel Sanders, but don't sleep on the newcomers like 70.3 world champ Jelle Gens—who's making his Ironman debut, by the way. And what about the women with Knibb, Matthews, Lovsig and many more? So, grab your popcorn, because we're diving deep into the who's who of triathlon and making some predictions that are probably going to be hilariously wrong.
We start with the full Challenge Roth start list which just keeps getting stronger. Laura Philipp has now been added to the women's field, setting up a potential showdown with Kat Matthews in what could quickly become a race against the Ironman world best time. The men's field has also been bolstered with the additions of Sam Laidlow, Rico Bogen, Jonas Schomburg and Patrick Lange, creating a lineup where the pace could be pushed from the start. Lionel Sanders is back doing Lionel Sanders things, saying he is once again all in on Kona and describing the race as his Olympics as he builds his season around October. From there we run through the full T100 Gold Coast start list which now includes short course athletes Jess Fullagar and Nicole van der Kaay stepping into the series. We finish with Ironman New Zealand in Taupo. Kristian Blummenfelt leads the men's race but the field also includes Mike Phillips, Kyle Smith and Pierre Le Corre. On the women's side Kat Matthews headlines the race. Bev and Tim catch up on the racing at both Noosa and in the Supertri race in Saudi Arabia at the weekend. Post Kona there has been some controversy surrounding suspected bike tampering before the race – IRONMAN plan to look at CCTV for any evidence. Plus, Patrick Lange states in a post-race interview with Bob Babbitt that his new coach, Ben Reszel, also coached Hayden Wilde. We share the response from Hayden's coach, Craig Kirkwood, confirming that Ben Reszel has never had any part to play in coaching Hayden! Tim chats to triathlon coach, sports-medicine doctor and author, Dr John Hellemans. They discuss his extensive experience in the sport, the evolution of training principles, the shift from autocratic coaching to individualized approaches, and the importance of building trust and communication in the coach-athlete relationship. John shares his thoughts on the complexities of high-performance coaching in today's environment and they discuss the evolution of triathlon performance, the impact of sports science on coaching methods, common mistakes athletes make, the significance of altitude training, and the importance of teamwork in coaching. They reflect on how training techniques have changed over the years and emphasize the need for consistency and a focus on the basics to achieve success in triathlon. What a race from Patrick Lange. Today, we look at how KONA unfolded and why, after all these years, it still comes down to the run . . . and maybe the swim? It's incredible to think that Lange may have strategically pulled back on the bike with a 4:06, but it definitely makes you want to look at the little things and how important they are in racing. Speed kills in shorter racing, but at the Ironman distance, mistakes can pile up. Making good decisions in your race (and training) often trumps technology, but it's all so tempting. Today, we get into many aspects of Ironman training and racing with a food for thought discussion. Topics: Execution for the win The incredible Patrick Lange Ditlev's grit Blummenfelt's struggles The amazing Cam Wurf (and Matt Hanson) Rudy von Berg, Sam Laidlow The swim course record The most underrated triathlete All the new methods, but . . .
