The fourth stop of the Move Her Mind event series with Asics was held in Nashville, TN. In this episode we speak with Lolita Sneed-Bryant, an RN, Certified Run Coach and Certified Health Coach and Abby Lokits, Executive Director of Free to Move, a non-profit advocating for Women's Safety. Free to Move was started in memory of her late sister-in-law, Alyssa Lokits, who was shot and killed on a popular running trail in Nashville on October 14, 2024. We discuss tactics and resources for coming back from trauma, women's safety and delineating between anxiety and fear. In this discussion, Lolita mentions a coronary calcium scan, also called a heart scan, which is a non-invasive CT scan used to assess coronary artery disease (CAD) risk. It helps doctors determine the amount of calcified plaque (a buildup of calcium deposits) in the heart's arteries. This information, along with other risk factors, helps estimate the likelihood of experiencing a heart attack. You can learn more about Free to Move and find resources here: https://www.wearefreetomove.org/ We've got several more stops, so join us at a city near you and bonus points if you bring a friend who needs your support & encouragement to start a movement habit. Are you framing and hanging it up? How about your degree? A survey has revealed that most people are thinking about their ex when they’re getting off. We did our own *research into this and it turns out more of you are than we expected! Have you ever said an ex’s name during sex? Do you think female entertainment journalists have a greater responsibility to report fairly on women in the media? Are gossipy, bitchy pieces written by women a betrayal to their own gender? British actress and activist Jameela Jamil announced via her Substack that she will no longer be interviewed by women. This came after a particularly critical profile in The Times, and she’s said that of the “hundreds of women” who have interviewed her over her 17-year career, only three have written about her fairly. We unpack whether we think female journalists are to blame, what the trade off of a profile piece is and the grey areas of standing on your morals. We also discuss the specific tactics that some media use to manipulate your opinion about someone. Some of them are more obvious than others. If you’d like to read the pieces we discuss, Jameela’s substack I think I'm done with being interviewed by women. In this episode, I sit down with Ed Vargo, founder and CEO of Burning River Advisory Group, to discuss the crucial topic of financial confidence, especially as it relates to women before, during, and after divorce. Ed shares insights from over 20 years in the financial services industry, explaining how he and his business partner Melana Carbary became invested in supporting predominantly women-led households. Their focus sharpened when they repeatedly saw women emerge from divorce with suboptimal settlements, despite having excellent legal advice, due to misunderstandings or a lack of financial guidance.Ed emphasizes the unique challenges women face regarding money, including persistent myths such as “I can't learn money” or “my partner is better at handling finances.” He discusses the risks of these mindsets and highlights the importance of taking an active role in financial decisions, not only for divorce but throughout life. The conversation touches on the emotional baggage many carry about money, shaped by childhood experiences and societal messages, and how these beliefs can directly impact financial well-being and confidence. We reflect on the necessity of financial literacy as a life skill, particularly noting the limitations of traditional divisions of labor in households. Bobby recently stated how he wanted to experience what it is like to shotgun a beer. So we brought in a tasty carbonated beverage for him to attempt to see what the hype is all about. Eddie revealed a scary situation that happened at this house that led him to have to call 9-1-1. Lunchbox is upset at the whole situation and brings up a time we'd never heard about involving a dead body. Speaking of Lunchbox, he brought us another edition of Women Are Crazy involving a mom who fought back too hard against the people responsible for bullying her kids. We tried to determine if this situation was specific to her being a woman. Amy responds with a crazy story that happened to her friend in Amy Presents: Men are Crazy! It involves someone randomly getting pepper sprayed.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Rates of chronic illness, behavioral disorders, and neurodevelopmental challenges are rising rapidly among children, often tied to underlying gut dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental triggers such as toxins and ultra-processed foods. Conventional treatments frequently overlook these root causes, relying instead on symptom management or medication. Functional approaches emphasize foundational lifestyle changes—clean nutrition, microbiome support, movement, sleep, and stress reduction—as powerful tools to restore health. Children are especially responsive to these changes, often experiencing rapid and dramatic improvements in behavior, mood, and physical symptoms. With education, testing, and family-centered strategies, parents can take simple, effective steps to help their children thrive. In this episode, I discuss, along with Dr. Elisa Song, Dr. Suzanne Goh, and Dr. Elizabeth Boham why a root-cause approach is just as important for children, as it is for adults. Dr. Elisa Song, MD is a Stanford-, NYU-, UCSF-trained integrative pediatrician, pediatric functional medicine expert, and mom to 2 thriving children - and she is on a mission to revolutionize the future of children's health. Dr. Song is the bestselling author of the Healthy Kids Happy Kids: An Integrative Pediatrician's Guide to Whole Child Resilience. Dr. Song created Healthy Kids Happy Kids as an online holistic pediatric resource to help practitioners and parents bridge the gap between conventional and integrative pediatrics with an evidence-based, pediatrician-backed, mom-approved approach. In her integrative pediatric practice, she's helped 1000s of kids get to the root causes of their health concerns and empowered parents to help their children thrive by integrating conventional pediatrics with functional medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and essential oils. Dr. Song is chair of A4M's pediatric education and has lectured around the world at leading integrative and functional medicine conferences and premier parenting events. She has also been featured in hundreds of top podcasts, print and online media outlets, including the Wellness Mama podcast, BloomTV, Forbes, Healthline, MindBodyGreen, National Geographic, PopSugar, Parents, Motherly, Parade, Verywell Health, and New York Post. Dr. Suzanne Goh, co-founder and chief medical officer at Cortica, is a Rhodes Scholar and graduate of Harvard University, University of Oxford, and Harvard Medical School who has spent decades working with autistic children. Her work as a board-certified pediatric behavioral neurologist, behavioral analyst, neuroscience researcher, and author led her to create the Cortica Care Model, an innovative, whole-child approach that combines optimal medical treatment with the most effective strategies for advancing cognition, communication, and behavior. Dr. Elizabeth Boham is Board Certified in Family Medicine from Albany Medical School, and she is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and the Medical Director of The UltraWellness Center. Dr. Boham lectures on a variety of topics, including Women's Health and Breast Cancer Prevention, insulin resistance, heart health, weight control and allergies. She is on the faculty for the Institute for Functional Medicine. This episode is brought to you by BIOptimizers. Head to bioptimizers.com/hyman and use code HYMAN10 to save 10%. She completed her degree in Neurobiology at the University of California, Berkeley, graduated from Yale School of Medicine, and completed her internship and residency at Harvard Medical School. She also served on the faculty of Harvard University and the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Brizendine founded the Women's Mood and Hormone Clinic at UCSF. Her New York Times bestseller, The Female Brain, and its follow-up, The Male Brain, continue to be read worldwide.  Today, we dive deeply into her new book, The Upgrade: How the Female Brain Gets Stronger and Better in Midlife and Beyond, which was released in April 2022. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: The transition and the upgrade stage of life explained Celebrating the transitional time of life and not fearing it How hormones help guide behavior Transition Stages 1,2,3 and what they mean Then onward to the 3 stages of "The Upgrade" Estrogen fluctuations that affect sleep Be aware of caffeine in your food and drinks and how it may affect your sleep. If you are having a problem staying asleep, you may want to cut back on alcohol or drink it earlier in the day. The Women's Health Initiative - (almost 20 years ago) disastrous misinterpretations and negative implications it caused by instilling fear in women to not use Estrogen - including osteoporosis, brain fog, anxiety, and sleep disruptions Hormone Replacement Therapy - now viewed as a positive and much-needed step in women's health Women between the ages of 40-50 should get a bone density scan as one of the determining factors of whether or not to begin hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Brizendine suggests that women should not be fearful of using therapies today to help balance hormones. Cynthia discusses the loss of cognition later in life as another correlative symptom of not receiving needed hormones. Dr. Brizendine advocates doing your own research regarding HRT and not depending only on information from major pharmaceutical companies. Cynthia and Dr. Brizendine discuss the importance of keeping an open mind when it comes to synthetic hormones because of the good they can do. If you are not well and do not feel like you can go on, please, immediately, seek out a doctor who can prescribe medications or hormones to help your particular and unique situation. Be your best and do not suffer in silence any longer. Cynthia says the transitional time of life should and can be a very good time in your life. Motherhood changes you because it literally alters a woman's brain—structurally, functionally, and in many ways, irreversibly. - Louann Brizendine, The Female Brain   Summary Women are gifted in a way that men are not.  Women can hold many different tasks in their mind at the same time, see the needs of others, and know the needs of the household and balance them all.  Sometimes this can feel empowering, but sometimes it's overwhelming, especially in times of great stress. In some circles, there is a call for men to share the “mental load”, but is that even possible?  What is the appropriate role of fathers and husbands and how can they support their wives in this burden that they carry?  Listen in as we tackle this tricky topic giving both perspective and advice on rejoicing in our differences.     Key Takeaways Women are gifted in a way that men are not.  Embrace it and appreciate that.  Reject a spirit of comparison and envy.   Live a balanced life - you are not a victim and you always have a choice. Appreciate your husband's mental load Create space for him to be needed.     Couple Discussion Questions How does the mental load affect each of us?   Have we fallen into a pattern of comparison or envy?  How can we learn to be more grateful for our spouse and their contributions?    Resources Download For-Women-Only-Survey Download FMO-Survey-Results

You love the gym and it's been your sanctuary away from your stress for years. But what if your go-to stress relief tool is now part of the problem?  In today's episode, we dive deep into why intense workouts might be silently burning you out rather than building you up. If you've been feeling exhausted, foggy, or stuck despite training hard, this one's for you. We explore why cardio and high-intensity workouts only offer temporary relief from mental stress and how they can actually strain your nervous system when your cortisol is already tapped out. I'll share what's really going on when your “post-workout high” feels amazing in the moment but leaves you drained long-term.  More importantly, you'll learn five powerful, science-backed stress management tools that rebuild your system instead of depleting it. From daily walks to somatic resets and nervous system journaling, this episode is all about redefining strength.  Because true power isn't in pushing harder: it's in knowing when to rest. If your body is in overdraft, it's time to stop swiping the stress credit card and start healing for good. Time Stamps: (1:26) Family Birthday Bash (3:42) Why Working Out Is A Terrible Way To Handle Stress (7:37) Putting On Body Fat (12:22) Cortisol and Energy Production (21:16) Managing Stress Appropriately (22:52) Daily Walks (24:02) Nervous System Resets (27:42) Somatic Exercises (29:14) Journaling or Nervous System Mapping---------------------Follow @vanessagfitness on Instagram for daily fitness tips & motivation. ---------------------Download Our FREE Metabolism-Boosting Workout Program---------------------Join the Women's Metabolism Secrets Facebook Community for 25+ videos teaching you how to start losing fat without hating your life!---------------------Click here to send me a message on Facebook and we'll see how I can help or what best free resources I can share!---------------------Interested in 1-on-1 Coaching with my team of Metabolism & Hormone Experts? Jameela Jamil is breaking up with women journalists via Substack. After too many burnouts and betrayals, the actress and activist is done. But is this really the group chat exit we think it is? Mia, Jessie and Holly have thoughts. Plus, there's a mahoosive marriage taking place in Venice this week and friends, people are protesting. It's Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez whose nuptials are getting flack and their wedding extravaganza is everything you’d expect: 27 dresses, three days of events, multiple protests, and a juicy affair that started it all. We've got the full rundown — from the super yacht to the guest list. Also on today’s show: you've heard of 'Let Them' and if you came to our live show, you might have heard our blunt alternative. But what about... 'Who says?' Who says you can’t wear that crop top? Who says those pants aren’t it? (Well, Mia... apparently. But ignore that.) Andrew Kroeger joins Dr. Sandie Morgan as the two discuss how anyone can find their unique role in fighting human trafficking without changing careers, using the metaphor of grabbing a handle on an ancient Greek pithari jar. Andrew Kroeger Andrew Kroeger is a podcast producer with over a decade of experience and a proud Vanguard alum. Before podcasting, he worked in book publishing as an editor and spent years as a live sound engineer. He's also passionate about global missions, having spent many summers living in Romania, doing outreach work for the past eight years. Andrew has been the invisible force behind this podcast, editing every episode, managing the website, and ensuring content reaches listeners in over 170 countries. What's fascinating is how Andrew never set out to work in anti-human trafficking - this opportunity came to him through his existing skills and connections. Key Points Andrew's journey into anti-trafficking work began as a Vanguard student doing live sound for events, which led to connections that eventually brought him to podcast production work eight years later. The pithari metaphor illustrates how fighting human trafficking requires many people finding their unique "handle" - you don't need to carry the entire burden alone, just find where your skills fit. Andrew emphasizes that people don't need to change careers or entire life directions to make a meaningful impact in anti-trafficking work - opportunities often come through existing skills and connections. His global mission experience, particularly in Romania and Egypt's "Garbage City," gave him firsthand perspective on trafficking issues that keeps him passionate about the work. Eight years of editing every episode has transformed Andrew from a "tech guy" into a content expert who can now play an editorial role in shaping the podcast's message. Working consistently with anti-trafficking content can lead to emotional numbing, requiring intentional effort to maintain compassion and avoid becoming cynical about the work. The podcast's focus on hope and human dignity, rather than just statistics and outcomes, sets it apart from other anti-trafficking content and prevents burnout. Andrew's favorite episodes are those featuring Romania because they connect to his personal mission experience, and the recent AI episode with David Tyre because it showed how emerging technology can help rather than hinder anti-trafficking efforts. The podcast is transitioning to video format to reach more students and young professionals who prefer visual content and want to share episodes with friends and classmates. Finding your "handle" means recognizing opportunities that come to you naturally rather than forcing your way into anti-trafficking work - partnership is often more effective than starting from scratch.       2 Chronicles 24:12 - And the king (Joash) and Jehoiada gave it to those who had charge of the work of the house of the Lord, and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of the Lord…   “It is a much easier thing to build a temple for God than it is TO BE A TEMPLE FOR God.” C.H. Spurgeon   A Good Start: A Book for Young Men and Women by C.H. Spurgeon   How can we BE a temple for God?   Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 5:23 that we are body, soul, and spirit - what do each of these components mean and how can we improve in each?   Spirit Must be “born again” - and being made alive in Christ means that you see the rest of reality through a different lens Soul Mind - we don't want to conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our MINDS - trained to think differently, learning to use your mind to advance the Kingdom and not just yourself Emotions - good indicators, bad masters - listen and learn Will - what are you doing that is worthy of being a child of God? Body Be careful of vanity and chasing after temporary things Can you serve the Lord…your family…and others in your present physical condition?
