The problem with the way we've been doing EV outreach at and with events is wrong! It's expected, unoriginal, and easily forgettable. And at the end of the day, how much impact will talking to 30 people (who don't really care what you have to say and only approached out of curiosity), really make? Not that much. And, if you or your organization put down money for the privilege, then honestly, it was a mistake. But worse, you spent your time and resources to set up and be present, but not really effective.  Let's be real, the mission that we all share, is to move progress forward and get more people driving more EVs. So our efforts have to be impactful. And that means that for or at events, what we do and how we do it has to engage with the attendees who are there… so how do we do this?Well, that's what this episode is all about! I'm giving real ideas, some proven, some well... off the top of my head that I have no idea if they'll work or not. September 22nd through October 1st is National Drive Electric Week - a nationwide celebration to raise awareness of the many benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.  In case you missed our article over the summer, HSD now has two electric school buses in its fleet! The electric bus purchases were made possible by a $250,000 award from Portland General Electric's Electric School Bus Fund in September 2021, and a $1 million award from the State of Oregon, as well as other grants, rebates, and money that had been earmarked for this purpose.  Congratulations are in order for Liberty High School History teacher Emily Staat! She has been named the 2023 Oregon History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Emily began her career at Liberty and this will be her seventh year in the classroom. As part of her application, she submitted a lesson on women's role in World War 2 in which students analyze primary source posters and create their own. Every year when she teaches the lesson, she dresses up like Rosie the Riveter. See those pictures and learn more about her on our website. Way to go, Emily! You make us Proud to be HSD!  If you have twelve minutes to spare to be reminded of how amazing our students and staff are, and how much promise they hold for our future, watch the heartwarming video of staff members telling students what they mean to them on our YouTube channel. Many thanks to all of the staff and students who participated, and to Justin Arey and Brian Huffman for filming and editing. Hot News is produced and emailed to HSD families and staff each week school is in session. Please add the address to your “safe sender” list to make sure you always receive the latest issue. Please also bookmark our district website: hsd.k12.or.us to stay informed about what's happening in our district and schools.

“We are kind of in a new world order now. People are just loving driving electric. A study, a data showed that once you entered that market even if it's plug-in hybrid electric, which is I have, you don't go back so much. You don't go back to gas car. You stay electric.” Zan Dubin Scott, a communication specialist of ZDS Communications, one of co-founders of Plug-in America and the co-founder of National Drive Electric Week, is a passionate advocate of electric vehicles since the beginning. Zan shares the current market condition as of 2022 with a brief reference to the history of electric vehicle industry including what's going on in the infrastructure that supports the driving needs. While there are many more electric vehicle models available today than ever, Zan says it may not be a good time to acquire EVs due to the shortage of inventory affected by a number of factors. Yet, if you're more concerned about reducing carbon footprint today and have extra cash, Zan says to go ahead and get one by all means. There are some really cool EVs that you can get today. Also, there are still federal tax credit as well as rebates available. California residents can check what's available at DriveClean California website.

Show #1403 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of information. It's Sunday 13th March, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. GMC HUMMER EV FLIPS ARE ALREADY GETTING OUT OF HAND - The GMC Hummer EV may be an all-new offering, but plenty of people are willing to part with their hard-earned cash to experience the new electric pickup before anyone else. In fact, demand has been so strong that, in December, we already reported on 60,000 preorders. - With all this crazy interest in the vehicle, it's no surprise that some early reservation holders are now looking to make a quick buck, but the scale of the markups we're seeing lately is just mindblowing. - some people are offering up the Edition 1 for as much as $325,000. Keep in mind that, although an $80,000 version is coming as a base model, the Edition 1 is not much more expensive and is supposed to sell for around $105,000. That means that these new markups are reaching as much as triple the original asking price, which is arguably worse than what some supercar dealers will do. - a quick Google search reveals that $300,000 resale prices are more common than not. Heck, The Drive cites Hummer Chat forum users selling reservation slots, which cost $100 direct from GM at release, for as much as $60,000, while the same forum has Edition 1s selling for upwards of $262k. For a truck not yet delivered. Insane seems too weak a word to describe this phenomenon. The company will deploy smaller factories producing between 3 GW and 15 GW of battery cells, which can be installed in a manner of weeks to meet demand. - According to AFB, the company's batteries will perform at least 10,000 discharge cycles with a 20-30 year lifespan. The products will be designed for storage systems on the utility- and residential-scale level, as well as military uses and certain large electric vehicles like trucks, buses and trams. SAIC aims to lift sales of new-energy vehicles to more than 2.7 million units in 2025, a 270% increase from 2021. - Q: What are the company's medium-term plans?A: Plans call for investing 300 billion yuan over the five years through 2025 in new-energy vehicles, connected cars and the smart segment. We will transform into a high-tech company oriented toward the customer.Sales of new-energy vehicles will be increased to more than 2.7 million units annually in 2025. Our company plans to raise the percentage of new-energy vehicles to overall sales to at least 32%. - We aim to become China's top company in autonomous driving tech, reaching mass production of Level 4 vehicles. Original Source : https://asia.nikkei.com/Editor-s-Picks/Interview/Chinese-automaker-SAIC-pours-43bn-into-advanced-tech-chairman ‘I CAN'T MOVE MY CAR': AMERICANS STRUGGLE AS VEHICLE EXPENSES RISE - At the Lehigh Valley Mall, on the outskirts of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Tony Saba is already feeling the impact of the rising cost of gas. - “The price is going up to hell,” he said. “I cannot move like before. My car is in my garage. I can't move it because I have no money.” - Saba, a 70-year-old retiree, used to drive to the mall. He doesn't go in any of the shops or restaurants – he just likes to sit in the comfy armchairs and chat with his friends. - But the bus takes too long, and is too expensive. So he called a friend, who picked him up. - “In the US we really saw an increase in automobile use in the post-world war two period, the baby boom generation. At that point in time, we had this new availability of relatively inexpensive mass-produced automobiles, this is the first time that people from middle income households can purchase a motor vehicle,” said Gregory Rowangould, the director of the Transportation Research Center at the University of Vermont and an associate professor in civil and environmental engineering. - The construction and planning of these new suburbs rarely included viable bus or train options. Many new neighborhoods didn't have walkable amenities either. Now, people needed cars to go shopping, or take their kids to the swimming pool, and certainly to get to work. - It's a legacy that has endured. Americans drive much, much more than other nationalities. - In 2019 American motorists drove an average of 14,263 miles a year, according to the US Department of Transportation. That puts the US at the top of the list in terms of miles driven, and it isn't even close. In the next highest country, Canada, people drove an average of 9,562 miles a year in 2018. The average car in the UK was driven for 7,134 miles in 2019. - Meanwhile some experts have suggested the spike in prices could serve as a wake-up call for the public and politicians to move away from a reliance on oil, and towards greener transport methods. - With gas prices unlikely to fall anytime soon, a shift away from America's car dependency, and serious investment in public transport would not just benefit the environment, but also the millions of Americans who are struggling financially. Original Source : https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/mar/13/us-car-vehicle-expenses-rise HOW TO MAKE DEALERSHIPS THE NO. 1 RESOURCE FOR EV BUYERS - With electric vehicles (EVs) lining up on the horizon and zooming into the nearest local showroom, auto dealers are preparing today to serve the EV customer of tomorrow by investing in training, education, infrastructure and, most importantly, positioning themselves as EV retail experts and resources for these new buyers. - The idea that dealerships don't want to sell EVs is ridiculous, said NADA Academy Director Michael Hayes. “We're selling a transportation solution that someone wants and meets their needs,” he said. “If I'm a dealer, I'm in the EV business. Every dealer, I truly believe, will sell EVs [and] wants to sell EVs, if that's what our customers want.” - So what can dealers do to make sure that customers know that? Chris Neff, EV Dealer Training Specialist with Plug In America suggested dealers attend drive events throughout the country, including National Drive Electric Week. “That's where EV folks gather and share information and they're always looking for dealers to come,” he said. - Knowing a buyer's lifestyle and motivation for buying an EV is a great opportunity for dealers to provide information that buyers will value, said Chris Potgeiter, Product Marketing Manager at automotiveMastermind. For example, if the EV buyer is a homeowner, a dealer might mention an in-home charging station. If the buyer is an apartment dweller, direct them to local charging stations near them. Maybe the buyer has expressed frustration over being a frequent visitor to the service department. A dealer can point out that an EV has fewer moving parts that could break and can offer a new level of reliability. Original Source : https://blog.nada.org/2022/03/12/how-to-make-dealerships-the-no-1-resource-for-ev-buyers/ DEALERS: GET IN LINE TO GET ELECTRIFIED, SAYS E-MOBILITY EXPERT - Dealerships that want to go all-in on electrification are in a race—a race for load capacity, according to Sean Gouda, Executive Vice President, Future Energy. - The main issue is utility upgrades are long-term capital projects that can take up to five years to complete. Distribution circuits have only so much capacity available. Utilities must install new lines, and upgrade transformers and substations. Coupled with the increase demand for electrification and the approaching fleet of EVs, dealers are facing potential electrical gridlock. - Gouda also recommended that dealers who are installing EV infrastructure, such as transformers and panels, take a long-term view when it comes to planning. “Everything you build should have a modular capability to it. You want to future-proof these components and build the foundation to expand your business in EVs. Spend the money now … to electrify your business for five or even 10 years from now.” Original Source : https://blog.nada.org/2022/03/11/dealers-get-in-line-to-get-electrified-says-e-mobility-expert/ BMW IX5 HYDROGEN - HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO A BATTERY-POWERED ELECTRIC VEHICLE?   Original Source : https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/03/13/bmw-ix5-hydrogen-video-review/ REGULATORY FILING SHOWS WHAT BYD SEAL LOOKS LIKE Original Source : https://cnevpost.com/2022/03/14/regulatory-filing-shows-what-byd-seal-looks-like/ DELHI: RIDE-HAILING STARTUPS WITH ELECTRIC VEHICLE-ONLY FLEET Original Source : https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/how-ride-hailing-startups-with-ev-only-fleet-are-ushering-in-change-for-climate/articleshow/90189525.cms SEGWAY UNVEILS 30+ MPH SEATED ELECTRIC SCOOTER WITH GPS AND OTHER TECH Original Source : https://electrek.co/2022/03/13/segway-unveils-new-30-mph-seated-electric-scooter-for-the-international-market/ QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM Do you think rising fuel prices at the pumps will have a direct impact on EV sales? This car is beleived to be one of just nine examples completed.   - Powered by four electric motors at each corner bringing a total output of 750 PS (740 bhp) and 1,000 NM of torque, the SLS AMG Electric Drive’s transmission allows for seamless four-wheel drive performance. The car’s lithium-ion battery pack at full charge could provide a range of 250 km.   - Paddle shifters behind the steering wheel allow the driver to control the level of regenerative braking available, meaning that one-pedal driving can be achieved with ease.   - Believed to be one of only nine examples produced, these cars provided a rare glimpse into the future of the sports car, a future which is fast approaching, and as such the SLS AMG Electric Drive will continue to be highly sought after by collectors for years to come as it has set the standard for others to follow.   Highlighted Source : https://share.getliner.com/KCWMV/ Original Source : https://rmsothebys.com/en/home/private-sales/r5104-2013-mercedes-benz-sls-amg-coup%C3%A9-electric-drive/1090213       RIVIAN TO PARTNER WITH NATIONWIDE FOR INSURANCE PROGRAM   - Rivian’s plans to sell insurance for its electric vehicles are now taking shape, with new details released about data-driven coverage and a partnership with established underwriter Nationwide.   - Rivian recently announced plans to sell insurance products as part of its digital ordering process. That’s technology inside of a car that can track how fast you accelerate, how hard you brake—in other words, how risky you are. Rivian Insurance customers will automatically receive a Driver+ rate reduction, in addition to any discounts for using the feature that automatically steers and adjusts speed on the highway.   Highlighted Source : https://share.getliner.com/18Nal/ Original Source : https://www.wglt.org/post/rivian-partner-nationwide-insurance-program#stream/0   HOW BIDEN PLANS TO BUILD 500 EV CHARGING STATIONS   - President Joe Biden has proposed spending at least $15 billion to begin rolling out electric vehicle charging stations, with the goal of reaching 500,000 charging stations nationwide by 2030.   - he roll-out of chargers should match consumer adoption to moderate demand and allow time to expand the electric grid   - Dan Ives, an analyst at Wedbush Securities: “In order for EVs to be more pervasive, it’s going to have to be gas station-like, where you can find an EV charging station with significant capacity” almost anywhere.   - The Biden administration has frequently likened the president’s infrastructure proposal and the EV initiatives within it to the roll out of the interstate highway system in the 1950s in scope and potential influence, which cost about $1.1 trillion in today’s dollars ($114 billion at the time). The gas stations that dot the interstates and reach out into some of the most remote areas of the country didn’t come all at once — they tracked with demand for cars and trucks as it rose over the 20th century, experts say.   - There are about 102,000 public charging outlets across about 42,000 charging stations nationwide today, according to the Department of Energy, with a third concentrated in California   - However, investment from utilities, auto companies and private charging companies won’t be enough without some government help, said charging specialists in each industry — both to support the market expansion and to ensure it happens quickly and equitably, as the administration has said it hopes to do.It’s also crucial in order to be competitive with China, experts say, which has dramatically outpaced both the U.S. and Europe in publicly accessible chargers.   Highlighted Source : https://share.getliner.com/auPnO/ Original Source : https://www.govtech.com/transportation/biden-plans-to-build-500-ev-charging-stations     BIDEN'S FIRST 100 DAYS HAVE ALREADY ELECTRIFIED THE AUTO INDUSTRY   - An electric federal fleet   - EV tax credit renewal nabs attention   - $100 billion for direct EV rebates   - Half a million EV chargers   - Remaking America's EV supply chain   Highlighted Source : https://share.getliner.com/PsbqE/ Original Source : https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/biden-first-100-days-auto-industry-ev-emissions/?utm_source=reddit.com     ELECTRIC CARS TO STORE RENEWABLES IN THE NETHERLANDS   - We Drive Solar and Hyundai are planning to set up a network of 500 bi-directional EV recharging stations in the city and region of Utrecht. Through this technology, electric cars may contribute to the storage of renewable energy in a country affected by grid constraints.   - The stations will be initially tested on Hyundai's Ioniq 5 car, which is equipped with bi-directional charging technology.   - The project includes standardization and embedding of protocols, software-mediated control of charging stations, a scientific validation of the proposed “bi-directional ecosystem,” the large scale application of bidirectional shared cars in a green urban district, and coupling car-sharing reservations with bidirectional charging.   Highlighted Source : https://share.getliner.com/1cS1S/ Original Source : https://www.pv-magazine.com/2021/04/29/electric-cars-to-store-renewables-in-the-netherlands/   EV CHARGING NETWORK CHARGEPOINT NOW SUPPORTS ANDROID AUTO   - Android phone users will be able to find, navigate to, and start charging from a ChargePoint charging station from their car’s infotainment screen, without having to pick up their phone. Support for Android Auto follows the addition of CarPlay support in November last year.   - the Android Auto experience lets you view a map with nearby charging stations, check status, filter by metrics like availability and cost, and then start a charging session once you arrive. The in-vehicle app can also be set to notify the driver once a busy charging station becomes available.   - USA, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.   Highlighted Source : https://share.getliner.com/3ruEy/ Original Source : https://www.theverge.com/2021/4/29/22409310/chargepoint-android-auto-electric-vehicle-charging-network   2021 PORSCHE TAYCAN TURBO VERSIONS GET HIGHER EPA RANGE RATINGS   - The 2021 model year versions of the top-of-the-line Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S received noticeably better EPA range and efficiency ratings. However, the gain of roughly 10 miles or 5% is still too small to offset the difference to real-world results, which are usually significantly higher than EPA.   - Taycan Turbo is 212 miles (341 km), which is 11 miles, or 5.5% higher than before.   - Porsche Taycan Turbo S, the EPA Combined range increased by 9 miles or 4.7% compared to 2020 MY, to 201 miles (323 km)   Highlighted Source : https://share.getliner.com/oxe0V/ Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/504432/2021-porsche-taycan-turbo-epa/   QOTW   What’s the best consumer education for EVs in 2021?   RAJEEV NARAYAN Here in the U.S., and presumably in Europe,  the majority of car buyers have never driven an EV or may not even know anyone with an EV. Therefore an EV does not even come to mind when shopping for a car. A great many of these buyers  may be best served by an EV and don’t even know it. The most effective consumer education for them is free test drives that are heavily promoted, as once driven, EVs tend to sell themselves.   e-Tripping with Adam Gebbett Regarding question of the week. I would love to educate every new ev buyer that you do not need 500 miles of range. Why people bang on about range in the U.K. is a mystery. Bladder 100 miles, service station every 40 miles.   David Sawdon Great to see you back on YouTube. Love the addition of screen shots. Getting people in to electric vehicles is key. All loan vehicles while your ICE is in for a service should be electric cars to help adoption.   SACHA most effective consumer education imho starts with butts in seat . I haven’t had one passenger that wasn’t immediately intrigued and asking questions. Those that are really interested do more reading after that , ask follow up questions etc.   ED CORTEEN The best way to reach people who do not drive EVs is to give them a test drive, any Dealer who is serious should use EVs as service loaners for their customers. You can watch as many YouTube videos as you like but real experience is the only way to find out.   DAVID CURTIS To get more bums in the seats of EV is by word of mouth and seeing for them selves how great they are.   BYRON STUMMAN Thinking about the most effective consumer education method, I think it has to come from dealerships.  Commercials and news stories are great but people are physically buying their new cars at dealerships. The sales teams and management need to be pro EV, showcase the cars on showroom floors and encourage customers to give them a test drive. Bums in seats as you say. Currently from sales teams there is still a lot of apprehension and doubt whether EV’s are serious cars worth buying.   DOUG VOWLES Here in Ontario Canada, we have Plug ‘n Drive, (About Plug’n Drive – Plug'n Drive (plugndrive.ca)) an organization that provides free EV test drives and consumer education.  It’s non-profit funded by Ontario Power Generation and other companies with a stake in EV success.  But this is something that governments and auto companies should be mandating world-wide.  Sample a typical EV experience first and “get it” – then worry about what the best brand and model is.   MARK RICHARDS I drive for Uber with my Bolt.  And I get a LOT of questions about it from people.  In fact, I think I’ve convinced at least 5 people to make a trip to the chevy dealer to check one out…especially with how cheap they are going right now. I should work out a deal with a local Denver dealer to get me a commission

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER ALAN SHEDD. Plus PRODUCER BRETT MASOUKA and PRODUCER ANTONY ROBERTS.   MOVE OVER MARIO KART: TESLA MODEL 3 HAS BEACH BUGGY RACING 2 "Believe it or not, Tesla has been in the center "console" business for nearly a year now. First announced last summer, the automaker has since installed a handful of Atari games in a feature dubbed Teslatari. Among these included classics such as Asteroids, Lunar Lander, and Tempest." says Wade Malone for InsideEVs.com: "Beach Buggy Racing 2, a mobile game with several tracks that bear a striking resemblance to the Mario Kart games of yore. Of course, that's the entire point. Beach Buggy Racing 2 seems to do a great job scratching the Mario Kart itch on systems that Nintendo does not support. Beach Buggy Racing 2 has been fairly well reviewed since its initial launch on Android and iOS. The game has enough to differentiate itself from the classic Nintendo franchise. Plus, this exclusive version lets you pilot a Tesla, making it instantly better than Mario Kart. Mario and pals are still driving "gas guzzling" go karts."   https://insideevs.com/news/355671/mario-kart-tesla-model-3-beach-buggy-video/   JLR REVEALS DETAILS OF FUTURE MLA ARCHITECTURE "Jaguar Land Rover has revealed details on electric models to follow the Jaguar I-Pace to investors. New cars will share a new platform called Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) that accommodates all-electric drives, plug-in hybrids and mild hybrids." reports the industry source Electrive.com: "JLR is hoping the MLA architecture will drive the company’s margin through cost reduction and new models, expects Nick Rogers, Head of Product Development. In future, JLR will build the vehicles on MLA basis at the plant in Solihull (England) and is already planning a large premium sedan and a large SUV."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/06/23/jlr-reveals-details-of-future-mla-architecture/   Meanwhile AutoEvolution reports: "Plug-in hybrid MLA models will utilize a 13.1-kWh battery for an electric range of 50 kilometers while mild-hybrid MLA models will integrate a belt-driven starter generator for bursts of electric boost. Electric vehicles such as the XJ, by comparison, will feature 90.2 kWh of capacity and a range of “up to 470 kilometers (292 miles)”   https://www.autoevolution.com/news/new-jaguar-xj-ev-to-feature-902-kwh-battery-135409.html   DAIMLER SLUMPS AS DIESEL COSTS WIPE OUT PROFIT GROWTH "Daimler shares fell as much as 5% on Monday after the German automaker cut its profit forecast for the third time in 12 months, saying it was setting aside hundreds of millions of euros to cover a regulatory crackdown on diesel emissions." according to a Reuters report: "Carmakers have been grappling with a crackdown on diesel emissions since 2015, when German rival Volkswagen admitted to cheating U.S. pollution tests on diesel engines. The pressure has come at a time when the industry is also having to invest heavily in electric and self-driving vehicles, cope with slowing growth in China, weak markets in Europe and a rise in global trade tensions."   https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-daimler-results/daimler-slumps-as-diesel-costs-wipe-out-profit-growth-idUKKCN1TO0RD   VOLKSWAGEN CLAIMS IT SECURED BATTERY CELL SUPPLY FOR EV OFFENSIVE "Volkswagen sends signals that the brand, and broader Volkswagen Group, secured the supply of lithium-ion battery cells for the upcoming first wave of electric cars." reports InsideEVs.com: "Thomas Ulbrich, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Brand responsible for E-Mobility, said: "I can confirm that for the first years of our plan, a sufficient supply of cells has been contractually secured," "adding this was the case until 2023." It's expected that from 2021, production of BEVs in Zwickau, Germany will be around 330,000 per year. The first model will be Volkswagen ID.3, followed by its derivatives."   https://insideevs.com/news/356329/volkswagen-secured-battery-cell-supply/   ABB SHOWCASES FIRST ELECTRIC TRUCK IN SWITZERLAND "ABB presented the first electric truck in Berne. By the end of 2022, the company plans to convert its fleet to zero-emission vehicles gradually in Switzerland. The current three-axe model was developed together with E-Force One but runs on ABB technology." says electrive "The electric trucks will also charge at ABB Terra 54 fast chargers and provide enough power for a range of up to 300km. A range of up to 500km would be possible with the largest available battery fitted."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/06/23/abb-showcases-first-electric-truck-in-switzerland/   TESLA BATTERY PROTECTION SOFTWARE UPDATE REDUCES RANGE "Recent reports by Tesla owners point to a range drop following one of the automaker's latest software updates. Those impacted are owners of older Model S and Model X vehicles." according to InsideEVs.com: "The software update was initiated by the electric car maker in order to provide additional battery protection to decrease degradation and increase battery lifespan. However, with any software changes, there can be some negatives, despite the overall positive intentions. According to Electrek, the update affects only Model S and X vehicles with 85-kWh battery packs. These cars were manufactured until 2016. The reported range loss is between 12 and 30 total miles."   https://insideevs.com/news/356300/tesla-battery-protection-update-reduces-range/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK   MARK GARNETT “Bums on seats” is the best, ideally with an EV knowledgeable person (ie many dealers can’t offer this)! A close second is just talking to people, because where ever they are on their EV journey (denyer, sceptic, quizzical, open minded or almost ready), discussing their real or perceived questions helps them move along that road. My friends and family are fed up with me Turing every conversation to EVs, so apart from sponsoring several podcasts and youtubers, my favourite way of of spreading the word is to be an EV owner at events like “Fully Charged Live” and “Oxford EV show” last weekend. In between the rain showers lots of really untested people asking really relevant questions. I’d love to insure my car to allow accompanied test drives (of friends and family at least) but all the insurers I've asked so far only point to full car dealer insurance which seems a bit over the top.   Kārlis Mendziņš ... is to silently bypass all those in traffic jams. To be more serious, yell and shout whenever and wherever possible about them. To be even more serious is making the big guys talk about the benefits of them. By big guys I mean government, influencers, bloggers, top CEOs, and alike. The more we talk about it, the more there is the possibility that an actual change will happen.   JOSH PRITT It's a bit like the Matrix.  You can't be told what it is, you have to be SHOWN.  The biggest thing people need to see is plugging in at home allows them to have a full "tank" every morning instead of going to a gas station once a week.  They still think we have to go to charging stations once a week and stand there for a few hours while it charges!  So grassroots events like National Drive Electric Week (driveelectricweek.org) and EV Expos and EV Car Shows are the best way to get butts in seats.  Space Coast EV Drivers (spacecoastevdrivers.com) club in Melbourne, Florida does a great job with public ride and drive events like this.  Joining or starting your own local EV club and doing public events is probably one of the best ways to get the word out about driving electric!   YASJ OJHA So I think a very good way to spread the word about EV would be by airing it over few radio channels in the country.. here in India people are tuned into the radio while commuting mostly (and they’re on the road an avg 2 hours per day).   DOUG VOWLES Put Ice-ey bums in warm EV seats.  (Get icers to test drive, test drive, test drive.)   DRK Best way, there is more than one, for spreading the word about Ev's but if I had to pick on... it's getting a ride from a friend with an EV who is living with the car day to day. Getting butts in seats is one of the best and easiest way to sell a Tesla and I think that works for the other brands as well when it's someone  you know showing you the features and letting you behind the wheel.   bryan carter • 5 days ago I think the great way to get the word out on electric vehicles would be to put booths at any and all city tastes. Most larger cities in the United States have festivals where you can have local vendors come and you can sample their best dishes. Tens of thousands of people walk by. Another great way might be to give free Uber rides to people. Allowing them to experience the EV and ask questions to an employee. Youtubers have already started doing this, but on a very small scale.   e-Tripping with Adam Gebbett • 6 days ago Martin, i love to talk to people at charging stations. You are the keeper, so people trust your opinion and to be honest. We talked about some of the latest issues regarding electric vehicles; a new non-profit initiative to promote them, and the Drive Electric Week plans in September. Our guests were: Janis Bookout - she is the incoming Executive Director for Earth Day Austin. Janis has helped produce the Earth Day ATX festival since 2016. She also leads climate events locally and is a founding member of 2020 or Bust, a growing global initiative on individual climate action, and recently joined the board of TxETRA (Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance), a new advocacy group focused on paving the way for electric transportation in Texas. Jennifer Lasseter – she is a Sustainability and Solar Consultant based in Austin, Texas. She has been involved personally and professionally for at least 18 years in sustainability issues mostly focusing on pollution prevention/zero waste and energy issues. She moved to Austin from Kansas to accept her first real job with TCEQ (state environmental agency) in 2001. Jennifer has been an EV owner for 10 years and City Captain for Austin’s National Drive Electric Week event for 3 years. Drive Electric Week will take place Sept 15th on Electric Drive. Multiple groups are partnering to put on the event, including Austin Energy, TxETRA, Earth Day and Smart Charge America.

National Drive Electric Week, sponsored by Plug-In America, the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association, is billed as a "national celebration" of electric vehicles. Hundreds of locally organized ride-and-drive events are held throughout the week across the country and overseas. I was in Chicago last month during the last few days of National Drive Electric Week 2017, and stopped by two nearby events to check out the current EV landscape in the Midwest. First up in this episode is the Naperville, Illinois event located about 30 miles west of Chicago, where I speak with Bruce Jones, a longtime board member of the Fox Valley Electric Auto Association. Then we head to Portage, Indiana, about 40 miles east of Chicago, where I interview Lauri Keagle, Membership and Program Manager for South Shore Clean Cities. Neither of these interviews were scheduled ahead of time, and I appreciate Bruce and Lauri for being so game when this stranger showed up unannounced with a field recorder and asked to interview them. So with that, we will start right in as I'm interviewing Bruce Jones in Naperville, Illinois, and then cut to my interview with Lauri Keagle in Portage, Indiana. Some references in the show include: Naperville: Fox Valley Electric Auto Association Naperville Auto Test Track Portage: South Shore Clean Cities Midwest EVOLVE Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission DOE's Plug-In Electric Vehicle Handbook for Consumers DOE's Plug-In Electric Vehicle Handbook for Fleet Managers Recorded September 15 and 17, 2017.
