After years of friendship, Shasta and Sher found themselves in two completely different places: Sher was a stay-at-home mom, whereas Shasta didn't have kids and was more focused on her career. Sher was married to a pastor, while Shasta was questioning church. Sher was more conservative-leaning, and Shasta was more liberal. The question arose: “If we met today, would we have become friends?” It's a familiar experience—someone's no longer single, or has kids, or switches jobs, or you're just in different life stages. And you wonder, was that the only thing holding your friendship together? In today's episode, Shasta and Sher discuss how they saved their friendship when they realized they had nothing in common anymore, why it was worth it, and the unlikely key to their survival. In this episode, Shasta and Sher answer the questions:How can you revitalize a friendship that's lost its shared interests or commonalities? How can having “nothing in common” actually benefit your friendship? Is it worth staying friends with someone you have nothing in common with anymore? In this response, from the Spirit of Rudyard Kipling, we are encouraged to question, and engage with, our experience of time rather than the company we may be in. The question he asks is: ‘Are you comfortable with your time?' We are encouraged to question our beliefs and what we pay attention to. ‘A picture bigger than oneself, is the art to dallying in time.' A beautiful reminder, to keep us centred.

Episode 161: Thompson Twins - Quick Step & Side Kick (1983) Part 5 At long last, it's here: the final installment of Brian and Sarah's look back at the 1983 Thompson Twins album, Quick Step & Side Kick (renamed Side Kicks in the US). There are only two more songs on the album to talk about, the first one being "Judy Do" (as the US track listing is the one being used here). Both hosts admit they were previously unaware of the subject matter of the song before beginning their research-- although Sarah did have another possible idea in mind. The final song of the album on both track listings is "All Fall Out," and as one might expect, there's a discussion on how strong of an album closer it is. Additionally, Brian explains what it may mean if you 'dream in red.' Before the hosts tackle the task of providing their final review and rating for the album, they have an extra credit question to cover: the 1986 standalone single, "Nothing In Common," from the movie of the same name. This leap forward three years in time finds the band with not only a different composition, but with a different sound. These topics are discussed along with the song itself, its chart position, the music video, and the movie it was in. Then it's finally time for Brian and Sarah to give their reviews and record-adapter ratings of Quick Step & Side Kick. Sarah didn't know this album as well as Brian, who hasn't been shy about proclaiming his love for it over the course of the discussion. So how does her final rating end up comparing to Brian's? The only way to find out is to listen! We hold our babies in our arms and picture teaching them all of our favorite things... and they love it! We imagine having deep conversations, fun adventures, and holding the same views of religion, politics, and movies. Some parents get this fantasy, others do not. Many parents I meet have broken hearts over the lack of similarity with their kids. Here's the truth: I can't make your kid like what you like. If anyone had the best chance of that, it would be you, and I'm guessing you've already tried everything with little to no success. The good news is, there is another approach! Listen in, as I break down how to connect and have fun with your teen and their unfamiliar interests. To learn more, please visit me at heatherfrazier.com
Rediscovering common ground and choosing to plant ourselves there has saved our relationship. It's true that some people grow apart and some relationships end. Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner, and I welcome you to Soundcast Land … which is where Succotash, the soundcast you are currently listening to, resides…as well as in the hearts of millions I am being told so, Holy Crap…thank you! It's a very special feeling that I will attempt to acknowledge on the regular by continuing to do more-or-less the same thing for as long as seems appropriate…whatever THAT means. Cheers to you! Last week, in Epi311 titled "Moving to the Sounds of Laughter", show creator, executive producer, my co-host and your more-or-less every-other-show-host Marc Hershon brought you a trio of soundcast clips from the soundcasts known as: 5-4, Crazy Town, Prop Culture, and Romance Road Test. Lots of entertainment to be had there, and you can find that show along with our 11 years deep archive of episodes over at www.succotashshow.com, or pretty much wherever else soundcasts can be found and listened to… including where you found this episode. Speaking of which: This is Episode 312, "Nothing In Common", and I've got clips for you from three soundcasts that have (seemingly) nothing in common): No Cover - Live from Savage Henry Comedy Club, Gag On This…Podcast, and In Bed with Nick and Megan. If you are new to our show, welcome! Thank you for listening. This episode is sponsored by the all-new Passive Aggressive Pants from Henderson's Pants, makers of coverage for everything you have down under since 1735. CLIPS No Cover - Live from Savage Henry Comedy Club At Savage Henry Comedy Club in Eureka, CA, comedians and luminaries join host Mark Sanders to unwind and laugh about the goings on in Humboldt Country and the world at large. I clip from the first episode from May 13th, 2022 - "Condors in the Air, Scooters on the Street, and a Couple of Kinds of Comics",, and feature the music and comedy stylings of inaugural guest Stephanie Knowles. Gag On This…PodcastBig Nick, Rob, Charron, and Daddy D get together each week to interview local comedians/comediennes about their life in comedy, their views of the local scene, and we have them enter the 'Comics Studio.' We also discuss random topics and crack jokes with our guests and sometimes ask the audience to join in on the fun!" Taken from their Epi181 the dropped May 9th of this year, called "Gutting the Sacred Sinkie", the gang is joined by comedian Kevin Gootee! In this clip, Kevin explains what "Comics Watching Comics" is and notes some of the influence it has had on new comedians. In Bed with Nick and Megan Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman have been a couple for 20 years - 138 years in Hollywood time - and in their podcast they take listeners directly into their bed… because that's where every episode is recorded - their bed. Cozying up with their famous friends, your favorite couple provide a funny, revealing, and very candid look into their relationship and life at large. In some episodes, they'll even kick the guest out of bed and get extra personal in what some have called the most searing and rawly sexual conversations ever to burn their way through a voice recorder. Oh, yes. It's that good. Join Megan and Nick for some serious pillow talk. This clip is from August 30th, 2020, an episode entitled "Checking In with Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest". There is a terrific story very early on about how Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest met. I did not clip that for this show. I chose instead to go with a clip of the group having a discussion that begins with sharing experiences in the theatre and the early days of cable T.V. programming. (Note: There has not been an episode of In Bed with Nick and Megan released since the "Season 1 Finale" dropped on September 13th, 2020.) When you get done listening to Episode 312, this is pretty much what I'll be saying: "Hey there… welcome to the end of the episode. I do hope you found some interest and/or entertainment in the roughly half-hour of your life that you spent listening to us. Maybe you will search out these shows to add to your "to-listen-to-queue" for further exploration? Maybe you've already heard one or more of the shows featured on this program and were curious to hear specifically what we chose to share with other people… maybe you would have chosen a different portion? Those are a great many "Maybe"s indeed, but they are only as good as their ability to signify that probabilities are being speculated upon…. At least, that's what it looks like from where I'm sitting. Another difficult thing is finding a graceful way to transition to a plug for my website over at www.tysonsaner.com where you will find links to all my other projects including other soundcasts, music, videogame gaming videos of various sorts on my YouTube channel, over a hundered now actually with a more-or-less steady release of content lately…and maybe a few surprises. Anyway, listen in right here next week for episode 313 brought to you by Marc Hershon and then, most likely, I will be back in 2 weeks with episode 314… so, until then, Be Decent to Each Other, and if someone should ask you if you've heard anything good or interesting lately, and we come to mind, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
For a tip of the hat to Father's Day, two sardonic but ultimately loving dramedies that peel back the layers of the onion of complicated relationships between crotchety old coots and their exasperated grown sons. Jackie Gleason and Bruce Dern both act their tails off with Tom Hanks and Will Forte offering solid support. A bonus anecdote about a recent concert combines nicely with Nothing in Common's celestial choir of ad agency execs revealing an office window to Hanks. Plus, the usual behind-the-scenes fun facts, weekly poll results, trivia segment, and listener shout-outs!
Labour leader Keir Starmer issues a strongly-worded attack on the Prime Minister's character in an interview with Political Editor Adam Payne. Starmer insists that he has “nothing in common” with Boris Johnson as he questions the Prime Minister's integrity and ability to lead the country at a time of crisis. He addresses the row over LGBT+ rights playing out across Westminster, accusing the government of “weaponising” vulnerable people for their own political gains. Starmer also issues pointed remarks about Labour's previous leadership and insists that the party has made significant progress “given what I inherited as leader of a party”. Starmer's timely interview coincides with a fresh crop of scandal in Downing Street after Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak received fines from police over 'partygate' events. Payne discusses what this means for Johnson and Sunak's future in Downing Street with political reporters Eleanor Langford and John Johnston, and what they've been hearing in Westminster since the news dropped. The Rundown is presented by Eleanor Langford with Adam Payne and John Johnston. The editor is Laura Silver. Produced and edited by Nick Hilton for Podot.

The boys investigate 1986's Nothing in Common, in which the Hanks and Jackie Gleason try to mend a rocky relationship. There are also horses. Discussion includes sweater weather, the real Da Vinci code, David Attenborough, and ouzo.
For this episode, listen in as Bryan and Sadria have a loooong discussion about the importance of having things in common with your partner (1:56). The long talk even makes them realize that they might not have as much in common with each other as they might have thought (11:17). In the end, though, they finally agree on what's important and what should matter to you when getting to know someone(19:02). They also give some insight into what should be done about any plateaus in a relationship due to a partner's lack of effort after some time (24:41).
Have you ever seen the movie, Nothing In Common (1986)? Well, if you said, "Yes," consider yourself special considering my guests, Janie Stolar (@janiefierce), Malin von Euler-Hogan (@malin_veh), and I had never heard of this movie starring Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason before. What a wild ride this film goes on as we see a comical, bit-heavy office environment, and take a quick turn into drama with a foot. Too bad it takes almost the entire movie before we get to the pivotal dramatic reveal we were all waiting for. Did I mention the horse sex scene? Let me know what you thought of Nothing In Common @youvegothanks. — SHOW INFORMATION Instagram: Instagram Twitter: Twitter Subscribe: Apple Podcasts Subscribe: Spotify
Americans hate each other because we don't have anything at all in common with one another. There is no single uniting value or principle in our culture. Nothing holding us together.
