THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta It Follows (2014) For 19-year-old Jay, autumn should be about school, boys, and weekends out at the lake. But after a seemingly-innocent sexual encounter, she is plagued by strange visions and the inescapable sense that someone, or something, is following her. Faced with this burden, Jay and her friends must find a way to escape the horrors that seem to be only a few steps behind A young woman named Annie flees from her house in fear, but there is no visible threat. She takes her parents' car and drives to the beach, where she tearfully tells her father over the phone that she loves him. At dawn, it is revealed that she has been brutally murdered. Afterwards, Jaime "Jay" Height goes on a date with her new boyfriend, Hugh, to the movies. Hugh points out a young girl in the back of the theater. When Jay says she cannot see the girl, Hugh becomes unnerved and asks that they leave. On another date, Hugh and Jay have sex in his car, but afterwards, he incapacitates Jay with chloroform and she wakes up tied to a wheelchair. Hugh explains that he has passed an entity on to her through intercourse. It will perpetually be walking towards Jay's location at all times, no matter where she is. If it catches Jay, it will kill her and pursue the previous person to have passed it on: Hugh, who is passing it to Jay as leverage. Hugh's claims are proven accurate when a naked woman appears and walks straight for Jay. Hugh drives Jay home and flees. The next day, the police cannot find the naked woman or Hugh, who was living under a false identity. At school, Jay sees an old woman in a hospital gown walking towards her, invisible to others. Jay's sister, Kelly and her friends, Paul Bolduan and Yara Davis, agree to help and spend the night in Jay and Kelly's house. That night, someone smashes the kitchen window; Paul investigates but sees no one. Inside the house, Jay sees a disheveled, urinating, half-naked woman walking toward her and runs upstairs to the others, who cannot see the entity. When a tall man enters the bedroom, Jay flees the house; her friends catch up to her at a nearby playground. With the help of their neighbor, Greg Hannigan, the group discovers Hugh's real name – Jeff Redmond – and traces him to his address. Jeff's mother answers the door and Jay realizes that the naked woman she had seen coming for her in the Packard Plant was in the form of Mrs. Redmond. Jeff explains that the entity began pursuing him after a one-night stand and that Jay can pass it on by having sex with someone else. Greg drives Jay, Kelly, Yara, and Paul to his family's lake house and teaches Jay to shoot a revolver. The entity arrives in the form of Yara and attacks Jay on the lakefront. Jay's friends ward it off by breaking a chair over its body and Jay shoots it several times until it falls over, but it recovers unharmed and attacks Jay again, this time taking the form of a boy who lives next door to Jay. She flees in Greg's car, crashes into a cornfield and wakes up in a hospital with a broken arm. Greg has sex with Jay in the hospital, as he does not believe the entity exists.

To celebrate Soma's electro sub label @avoidantrecords new vinyl release ‘Dark Planet', we have invited new Avoidant artist, DJ Godfather! Listen here: https://avoidant.fanlink.to/darkplanet With techno originally hailed as The House Sound of Detroit - there's no denying the motor city has its own definitive genre: Ghetto Tech. A true pioneer of the sound, DJ Godfather, like so many in Detroit was inspired by local radio - WJLB, The Electrifying Mojo and Jeff ‘The Wizard' Mills - but for Brian Jeffries, aka DJ Godfather, it was scratch DJs, hip hop and DMC battles that kick-started his love for turntablism. Playing house parties and teen clubs as a 15-year-old, DJ Godfather quickly learned how to keep a dancefloor hot - and having actually purchased The Wizards' turntables from the man Jeff Mills himself, DJ Godfather honed his craft. At 17 he found himself playing downtown bars and gigs in the suburbs, before taking off to warehouse raves and illegal parties, like those at Detroit's Packard Plant.  An intimidating force behind the decks, he's known to drop 60-to-70 records in a one hour DJ set, with plenty of flair, beat juggling and Detroit hustle in between. With his first solo record coming through the Twilight ‘76 label he set up in 1994, DJ Godfather would go on to establish the Databass imprint - still going strong with 150-plus releases - along with a specialised set of sub-labels including Juke Trax and D.E.T. Only. For more than 25 years now DJ Godfather has been an advocate for ghetto tech at large, consistently drawing the biggest daytime crowd year-for-year at Detroit's Movement Festival - uniting juke and jit dancers alike - while also exploring a myriad of genres like Miami bass, footwork, electro and more. Hooking up with the likes of Keith Tucker, Andrea Parker and DJs Deeon, Detroit Grand Pubahs and Fat Boy Slim over the years, it was only in 2020 that he saw the release of his 44 track debut solo album, Electro Beats For Freaks. Following that up in 2021 with a 46-track second LP titled This Thing Of Ours, and the 2022 D3T.3L3CTR0 album - DJ Godfather never loses faith in how his music can bring different people and genres together. “To me ghetto tech is a culture; mixing techno, house, electro, and booty records to create one vibe,” he says. “I do ghetto tech records because it's me. My one music that I'm passionate about. Detroit’s Packard Plant Is On Wayne County’s 2019 Foreclosure List

A bonus pod this Friday, January 25, 2018. Despite its new owner’s promises to build a brewery, office space, a hotel and more, Detroit’s infamous Packard Plant is once again subject to foreclosure by Wayne County in 2019, according to notices published in the Detroit Legal News last month. That’s due, at least in part, to unpaid bills to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. But the amount shows up as tax liability. Although we haven’t been able to confirm the total owed for the water and sewage bills, adding up records found on Loveland’s property website shows that Arte Express owes $302,434 as of August 2018. That’s across a variety of properties that make up the north and south sides of the sprawling Packard facility. The Detroit Water And Sewerage Department said they wouldn’t be able to confirm the total amount owed across the numerous properties that make up the plant by the end of today. We’ve identified 42 parcels owned by Arte Express at the Packard Plant, with 41 subject to foreclosure on March 31, 2019. This includes the administration building that the pedestrian bridge fell from earlier this week at 1580 East Grand Boulevard. That parcel is listed as owing $5,587.99. Peruvian developer Fernando Palazuelo and his Arte Express company purchased the complex out of foreclosure in 2013 for $405,000. On Wednesday, the Packard Plant’s bridge collapsed onto East Grand Boulevard. On today’s show, we talk about that and what we know about why it happened. And we use it as a jumping-off point to discuss the plant’s colorful past and ambitious — some might say quixotic — future plans. In its heyday, the Packard Plant was the largest automotive factory in the world, built for an automobile company known for its engineering and innovations like the 12-cylinder engine and the modern steering wheel. We also speak with John Lauter, a former tenant and current Packard historian, who fills us in on the plant’s post-Packard years starting in the late ’50s, including its use for film storage, then later on for illegal rave parties. Not to mention, there’s a dose of city hall intrigue at the turn of the millenium.

Our August 22, 2018 features an interview with Sean Mann, CEO of Detroit City FC. The season may be over, but there's still a lot of activity with the organization, including efforts to go professional and to roll out their sports complex and bar on the east side of the city. Our stories: - Ford Motor Company has added another piece to its emerging Corktown campus. - Detroit is about to get a giant floating bar of light. The new art will connect two historic downtown buildings: One Woodward, designed by famed World Trade Center architect Minoru Yamasaki, and the Guardian Building, the famed Art Deco masterpiece designed by Wirt C. Rowland. - In Troy, the owners behind Berkley’s Vinsetta Garage and Clarkston Union just opened a Latin American fusion eatery called Gran Castor, which is Spanish for “great beaver.” - In Detroit, the owner of Supino Pizzeria is planning a new pizza joint on Woodward in the New Center. - And finally in Ferndale, a large sign recently went up on the roof of a vacant storefront along Woodward announcing the coming of Brooks Brewing, a microbrewery and pizza oven.  - National coworking and remote office outfit WeWork is expanding in Detroit again. They’re adding another floor in 1001 Woodward. - Detroit is known for its unique animals. For instance, it was just a year ago that there was a Kangaroo running around just a couple blocks from our University District digs. Then there was that whole Tiger thing in the Packard Plant. This one isn’t as crazy, but it does involve a parrot that knows the theme to Game of Thrones and the Addams Family. Don't forget to subscribe to the show in your favorite podcast app.

“See you at the Packard” was what Detroit youth would say as they parted ways at the city’s coffee shops, before regrouping after sunset.
