**Episode Title: Raising Respectful, Resilient Kids with Sarah R. Moore**In this episode, I chat with Sarah R. Moore and discuss why disciplining, not punishing, children is crucial for their development.Sarah explains how positive, natural, and logical consequences are WAY more helpful and much less damaging. She emphasizes that discipline can be constructive, fostering respectful and peaceful relationships. We tackle the question of whether parental unity (both parents being on the "same page") is that important and debunk the myth that harshness prepares kids for a tough world, revealing instead that it leads to unhealthy relationships.Sarah passionately advocates for raising children in ways that encourage them to seek supportive, collaborative, and healthy connections. Join us to learn how we can transform the world, family by family.A bit about Sarah R. This is a special bonus episode of The Disagreement. In our most recent episode, nurse Megan Tucker and parent coach Sarah Moore talked about sleep training: specifically, the “cry-it-out” method (also known as the extinction method). It's a controversial parenting technique — one which Megan often advises, but Sarah Moore does not.We wanted to get into the alternatives, but didn't have enough time in the main disagreement. Sarah agreed to come back and talk about the other options available to parents — what she calls the more ‘gentle techniques.' Sarah Moore is a conscious parenting trainer and founder of Dandelion Seeds Positive Parenting. Sarah is Board Chair for the American Society for the Positive Care of Children, and the author of Peaceful Discipline: Story Teaching, Brain Science & Better Behavior. If you haven't listened to the original disagreement between Megan and Sarah yet, head over to our feed and take a listen. Or start right here and then circle back for the more comprehensive dive into the topic.
The “Cry-It-Out” method is also known as the extinction method. Here's what it looks like: at bedtime, parents put the baby in the crib drowsy, but still awake. Then they leave the room and get the baby at a set time the next morning. They don't respond to crying or protest unless there's a concern for health or safety. Is this the best way to help a new baby sleep through the night? Or are there better alternatives? The GuestsSarah Moore is a conscious parenting trainer and founder of Dandelion Seeds Positive Parenting. Sarah is Board Chair for the American Society for the Positive Care of Children, and the author of Peaceful Discipline: Story Teaching, Brain Science & Better Behavior. Megan Tucker is a registered nurse, certified lactation consultant and certified childbirth instructor. Megan is the founder of Baby Basics Atlanta, where she works with families of newborn children. Today we ask a wide range of important questions about sleep training:What is the best way to help parents get their newborns to sleep through the night? What are the ethics of the “cry-it-out” method? How should the parents balance the needs of their children with their own needs? Why, from a brain science perspective, do so many punishments end up failing or even backfiring; Is peaceful discipline for all kids, or just sensitive ones? What about strong-willed children? Why do we need to be parent-centric in how we approach behavior, rather than trying to modify our children's behavior? What does that look like? What about when peaceful discipline is hard for us? Do we have to parent this way ALL the time? What if parenting this way doesn't come naturally? What is story teaching? Does it work for all ages? What if I'm not creative? When do we use it?Episode Links:Purchase Sarah's book Peaceful Discipline from Booktopia here.Sarah will be offering parent support sessions soon - join her mailing list to be included and get a discount.Follow Sarah on Instagram here.

When Sarah R. Moore hears someone bemoaning a toddler's tantrum with, “Oh, he just wants attention,” she's likely to respond with, “Yes, and?” It's a term she learned from an improv class but one she frequently applies to parenting. And in terms of tantrums—be it from a toddler or teen—she believes the cry for attention is due to an unmet need. Sarah joins Dr. Amy and Sandy on the Brainy Moms podcast to talk about a variety of tools she believes can be beneficial in helping children, teens, and us feel seen, safe, soothed, and secure...including story teaching, connection, and co-creating boundaries. If you're looking for new ways to grow as a parent and help your child communicate, build resiliency, and deepen their trust and respect for you, this episode is not to be missed! Join us for this upbeat, fun, (and sometimes funny!) discussion with the author of “Peaceful Discipline: Story Teaching, Brain Science & Better Behavior.” ABOUT SARAH: Sarah R. Moore (“ … because it's an incredibly common name without the R!”) is the author of “Peaceful Discipline: Story Teaching, Brain Science & Better Behavior” and the founder of Dandelion Seeds Positive Parenting. As a Master Trainer in conscious parenting and Board Member for the American Society for the Positive Care of Children, she's also a public speaker, armchair neuroscientist, and most importantly, a mama. Join us in this week's episode as we speak on a very heavy topic, in which we discuss the code of silence. What needs to change and how we can become allies to those whom have been victims of any form sexual assault. The code of silence is something that has gone on for way too long and needs to be broken. Many times, victims have stayed silent about the assault they have gone through because of fear tactics. What is sad, is that sometimes these tactics are applied by family members rather than the offender themselves. Mothers, grandmothers, brothers, sisters, and uncles, at times tell the victim not to speak out and protect the offender with excuses such as “we don't want to start any family drama”, “if this person finds out they will kill them and then he'll go to jail.” It's time to stop this behavior that puts pressure on an individual that is already going through a lot of emotions as it is. It's time to encourage victims to speak out, it's time to tell them they did nothing wrong by speaking out, it's time to protect victims and make them feel safe, it's time to side with the victims and not the offenders. If you or anyone you may know have been victims of sexual assault, I want you to know you are not alone.
