June 23, 2026Today's Reading: 1 Timothy 1:12-17 or 1 Peter 5:6-11Daily Lectionary: Proverbs 27:1-24; Prov 28:1-29:27; John 20:1-18The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. (1 Timothy 1:15)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.St. Paul is not looking for sympathy. When he says he is foremost or chief of sinners, he is not self-deprecating. He is not looking for Timothy to say, “Oh, Paul, no, you aren't that bad. There are worse people than you. Don't talk about yourself that way.” By no means! St. Paul is not looking for sympathy. Paul is not telling Timothy he is the chief of sinners to boast in himself. In fact, Paul's claim that he is the chief of sinners says more about Jesus than it does about Paul. Paul is proclaiming the gospel. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners - even him, who persecuted Jesus and His church. God sought to be reconciled with His fallen creation. He sent His only son, Jesus, to do the reconciling. Jesus Christ did not wait until sinners worked hard enough to save themselves. He did not wait until they proved themselves worth saving. God stepped in because we can't save ourselves. And in this, St. Paul boasts and declares it trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. This gospel is for you as much as it was for St. Paul or Timothy or anyone else. When your conscience is burdened by the knowledge of your sinful condition, take heart. Jesus came into the world to save sinners. When all seems lost and you have failed in your vocations, take heart. Jesus came into the world to save sinners. When death draws near, and you come face to face with your own frailty, take heart. Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He came into the world to save you. Jesus took on our frail human flesh to redeem our inability to fulfill God's commands. Jesus fulfilled the law of God perfectly, that we might be restored. He died and rose, that sinners might die and rise as well, in Holy Baptism. He came into the world to forgive you of your sins and to rescue you from the power of death and the devil. It is trustworthy and worthy of full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, to save you. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Sin, disturb my soul no longer; I am baptized into Christ! I have comfort even stronger: Jesus' cleansing sacrifice. Should a guilty conscience seize me since my Baptism did release me in a dear forgiving flood, sprinkling me with Jesus' blood? June 22, 2026Today's Reading: Micah 7:18-20Daily Lectionary: Proverbs 25:1-22; Prov: 26:1-28; John 19:23-42“He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” (Micah 7:19)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Satan's head is crushed by the bruised heel of Christ. That is where your iniquities lie - crushed into dust under the feet of a victorious God. Rotting in the belly of a great fish in the depths of the sea - that is where your sins are. The compassion of our God would put His Son in our place. We should be dead in the grave, punished for our sins. We should be dead in the belly of a fish. But we are not. Instead, Christ takes our iniquities and sins and rids us of them, taking them upon Himself. In His death, he destroys death, and in His rising from the dead, he brings you with Him. The wages of sin is death, but you have been brought into new life. Death cannot hold Christ, and it cannot hold you. God will again have compassion on us. He takes on what we cannot carry. He defeated sin, death, and the devil. He, the God of life and light, shines forth into the darkness of sin and death and cannot be overcome. Those things that seek to crush and drown us have come undone. In Holy Baptism, water, which would kill us, unites with God's Word to make us alive. Old Adam is drowned and dies, and the New Man is dragged out of the water, leaving the wages of sin to sink to the depths of the sea.God looks upon sinners with compassion and love. We deserve to be crushed under His feet and thrown into the sea because we are sinful by nature. But instead, our sin and iniquity, which we have never lived without (in sin did my mother conceive me), is now dust and sand, cast into the sea. God looks upon us in love. He looks upon us and sees His Son. He does not consider your sin or iniquity. He forgives you and renews you. He is steadfast and immovable. He has made you His own, and He will not forget you. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.In a wat'ry grave are buried all our sins that Jesus carried: Christ, the Ark of Life, has ferried us across death's raging flood. (LSB 597:3)Deac. Riches Through Giving What is the richest thing a person can give? Is it money, possessions, opportunities, or something more? In this Father’s Day message, Pastor David explores a surprising truth found throughout Scripture: while the world says riches come from accumulation, God says riches come from generosity. Drawing from Proverbs 11, Luke 6, Acts 20, and the powerful example of John 3:16, we’ll discover that generosity is about far more than finances. It’s about living with open hands and open hearts.Through a personal story involving a green pillow, a son, a daughter, and a lesson in character, we’ll explore how some of the most valuable things we can ever give away are attention, patience, wisdom, identity, direction, honor, and love. Along the way, we’ll uncover a Kingdom principle that appears again and again throughout Scripture: what leaves your hand is not always lost. Often, it is planted. If Proverbs teaches that giving creates flourishing, Luke teaches that giving multiplies, and Acts teaches that giving blesses the giver, then John 3:16 reveals the foundation beneath them all: giving is the very nature of God. Because the richest gift ever given was not something God owned. It was Himself. Proverbs 11, Luke 6, Acts 20, John 3:16 Discussion topics HEAD – What did Jesus say to you through the Word? Pastor David shared that: Proverbs teaches that giving creates flourishing. (Prov 11:24-25) Luke teaches that giving multiplies. (Luke 6:38) Acts teaches that giving blesses the giver. (Acts 20:35) John teaches giving is the nature of God. (John 3:16) Which of the four points from this week’s message stood out to you the most, and why? How did this message expand your understanding of generosity beyond money? Or did it? What’s one lesson you learned from your dad, or father figure, that you still carry with you today? Was it a lesson you want to repeat or one you hope to avoid? How has it influenced your life? HEART – How did it make you feel? Pastor David said, “The things we give away often become the things that make us richest.” Where have you experienced that to be true in your own life? Which of these is hardest for you to give away right now? Time Attention Patience Forgiveness Encouragement Wisdom Money Trust Why do you think that is? Which statement from the sermon resonated most with you personally? “The world says riches come from accumulation. God says riches come from generosity.” “What leaves your hand is not always lost. Often, it is planted.” “The life you pour out eventually becomes the life you experience.” “The greatest inheritance isn’t what you leave behind. It’s what you place inside.” HANDS – What are you going to do with it? Who is one person you can intentionally invest in this week through your time, encouragement, wisdom, or presence? Is there an area of your life where you have been holding on too tightly? What would it look like to trust God with open hands instead? The Shallow End: The world's counterfeit for trust is self-reliance — securing your own life and managing your own outcomes, with God as a backup for whatever falls outside your control. The Deep End: "Do not lean on your own understanding" is not a gentle suggestion but a demolition of the deepest human instinct — trust in the Lord is total, costly, and open-handed reliance on a God who provides in ways you cannot arrange in advance.

Michael Basham.com SpiritForce01@gmail.com for PayPal! The proverbs (truths obscurely expressed, maxims, and parables) of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: 2 [a]That people may know skillful and godly [b]Wisdom and instruction, discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight, 3 Receive instruction in wise dealing and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity, 4 That prudence may be given to the simple, and knowledge, discretion, and discernment to the youth— 5 The wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel [so that he may be able to steer his course rightly]— 6 That people may understand a proverb and a figure of speech or an enigma with its interpretation, and the words of the wise and their dark sayings or riddles. 7 The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline. 8 My son, hear the instruction of your father; reject not nor forsake the teaching of your mother. 9 For they are a [victor's] chaplet (garland) of grace upon your head and chains and pendants [of gold worn by kings] for your neck. 10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. 11 If they say, Come with us; let us lie in wait [to shed] blood, let us ambush the innocent without cause [and show that his piety is in vain]; 12 Let us swallow them up alive as does Sheol (the place of the dead), and whole, as those who go down into the pit [of the dead]; 13 We shall find and take all kinds of precious goods [when our victims are put out of the way], we shall fill our houses with plunder; 14 Throw in your lot with us [they insist] and be a sworn brother and comrade; let us all have one purse in common— 15 My son, do not walk in the way with them; restrain your foot from their path; 16 For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood. 17 For in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird! 18 But [when these men set a trap for others] they are lying in wait for their own blood; they set an ambush for their own lives. 19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy of gain; such [greed for plunder] takes away the lives of its possessors. 20 [c]Wisdom cries aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the markets; 21 She cries at the head of the noisy intersections [in the chief gathering places]; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: 22 How long, O simple ones [open to evil], will you love being simple? And the scoffers delight in scoffing and [self-confident] fools hate knowledge? 23 If you will turn (repent) and give heed to my reproof, behold, I [[d]Wisdom] will pour out my spirit upon you, I will make my words known to you. 24 Because I have called and you have refused [to answer], have stretched out my hand and no man has heeded it, 25 And you treated as nothing all my counsel and would accept none of my reproof, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when the thing comes that shall cause you terror and panic— 27 When your panic comes as a storm and desolation and your calamity comes on as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then will they call upon me [Wisdom] but I will not answer; they will seek me early and diligently but they will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord, 30 Would accept none of my counsel, and despised all my reproof, 31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way and be satiated with their own devices. 32 For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the careless ease of [self-confident] fools shall destroy them. 33 But whoso hearkens to me [Wisdom] shall dwell securely and in confident trust and shall be quiet, without fear or dread of evil. Footnotes Proverbs 1:2 Over the doors of the school of Plato these words were written in Greek, “Let no one enter who is not a geometrician.” But Solomon opens wide the doors of his proverbs with a special message of welcome to the unlearned, the simple, the foolish, the young, and even to the wise—that all “will hear and increase in learning” (Prov. 1:5). Proverbs 1:2 A key term in the book of Proverbs, “Wisdom” is capitalized throughout, as God's design for living and as a reminder of Christ, Whom the apostle Paul calls “the wisdom of God... in Whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (I Cor. 1:24; Col. 2:3 kjv). Proverbs 1:20 Wisdom here is personified. Read “the Wisdom of God” instead of “Wisdom” and see the wonderful power of this book. Proverbs 1:23 See footnotes on Prov. 1:2 and 1:20.

Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight” (Prov. 9:5–6). This is the call of the Spirit of Christ to believe the Gospel and to receive His saving gifts in the Holy Supper. Many make excuses and reject this invitation, even as the Jews did in the days of Jesus, yet the Master's house will be filled. The Gospel call therefore goes out to the lowly and despised, into the highways, even to all the Gentiles (Luke 14:15–24). For “you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ” (Eph. 2:13–22). In Christ, believing Jews and Gentiles are no longer strangers but fellow members of the household of God. The enmity of class and race is put to death through the cross. Having been reconciled in the one Body of Christ, we are enabled to love one another (1 John 3:13–18) as we await the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom which will have no end. Send us Fan MailHello and welcome to CGM Presents: In the Word. My name is Dr. Stephanie Wright. On behalf of Charles George Missions, welcome to Season 14, “Spiritual Warfare.” This is episode 10 in our series, entitled “Spiritual Warfare Scriptures.” The resource for this series is the Word of God—the Bible—and the book “Spiritual Warfare Manual: ABC to PhD,” written by yours truly.Sit back, relax, and take a deep breath because today's spiritual warfare scripture is about rest. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Rest is a spiritual warfare weapon because spiritual warfare is perpetual—never-ending. When you commit your life to Christ, it is a lifetime commitment. There is no discharge from the Lord's army, so you will need to learn to rest in the Lord. Also remember, there is a great reward in serving Him— ETERNAL LIFE, and other bonuses we do not even know about are the compensation we receive. 1 Cor. 2:9 tells us we haven't seen nor heard, nor has our heart known the things God has prepared for us who love him.And consider this. The military soldier takes something called R&R (Rest and Relaxation). The spiritual warfare soldier has to do the same. It may not be a trip to a tropical island, although that would be nice. You may take an afternoon off and do what you please. But take a break and lighten up. Rest is good for your heart and soul. Prov. 17:22 tells us, A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. You need to refresh yourself for the next battle. My R&R includes sitting in a comfortable chair, viewing and listening to nature from my window during prayer time. The moment I sit down, I exhale, and I know I am at peace with God.So, take time every day, even if it's only 15 minutes, and rest in the Lord. Rest is another weapon in your spiritual warfare arsenal.Thank you for joining us today. Now, let's turn to Dr. Charles Wright, who will tell you how you may reach us and comment on this podcast.Until next time.If you want to contact us or comment on this podcast, please visit our website and select www.cgmissions.com/podcasts, where all episodes are available by category in series format. 16:18 O earth, do not cover my blood- The earth is sometimes called to witness men's sins (Deut. 30:15-20; Isa. 1:2; Micah 6:1-2) but here Job calls upon it to testify of His innocence. Job's longs for the earth not to cover his blood. The phrase cover his blood also appears in Gen. 37:26; Isa. 26:21. In Gen. 4:10 the voice of Abel's blood cried out from the ground. Blood represented life itself (Lev. 17:11), and it is precious. Even an animal's blood was to be covered with the ground (Lev. 17:13; Ezek. 24:7-8). Because life and blood were so precious, taking life demanded one's life be taken (Gen. 9:5-6; Num. 35:29-34). And let there be no resting place for my cry- The law of Moses made provision for an avenger of blood who executed the killer of his near kin (Num. 35:9-34). If the avenger failed to act, God was expected to act. Job begs that his cry find no resting place until he was avenged. 16:19 Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven,- While Job's appearance served as a witness against him in vs. 8, he is confident of a witness in heaven (vs.19). The witness is more than just a man. He is in heaven. But who is this witness, this advocate? Some argue that the witness is God Himself.[1] In this context, the witness seems like a 3rd party who will plead his case before God (vs. 21). And my advocate is on high- The word translated advocate is only used here. 16:20 My friends are my scoffers;- There is question about the translation of key words. The word translated friends is used of Job's friends in 2:11; 32:3; 42:10.The NET translates this phrase “My intercessor is my friend.” This word translated intercessor can carry the idea of scoffer (Ps. 1:1; Prov.1:22; 3:34; 9:7, 8, 12; 13:1; 14:6) or it can speak of a translator or an interpreter (Gen. 42:23; II Chron. 32:31; Job 33:23; Isa. 43:27).[1] [1] Newsome, 460-461, does not believe these words variously translated are from the same Hebrew word but that they are different words. Clines, 371, agrees and has some good notes about the translation. Jesus and Job 16:15-2216:16, 20 Job's face is flushed with weeping. Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:35), at the triumphal entry to the city of Jerusalem (Luke 19:41-44), and at Gethsemane (Heb. 5:7). Jesus offered strong crying and tears to the One able to save Him. 16:17 Job was innocence and there was no violence in his hand. Jesus was completely innocent and there was no violence in His mouth on a much greater level than Job (Isa. 53:9; I Peter 2:22). 16:18 Job begs that the earth not cover his blood. While the blood of Abel cries out for vengeance, the blood of Jesus cries out for mercy (Gen. 4:10; Heb. 12:24). 16:21 Compare this to Job 9:32-33; 19:25; 33:23-24. Job is not prophesying of Jesus in the sense of stating what He will do. Job is expressing a longing, a desire for One who will do what Jesus accomplishes. Jesus actually goes far beyond what Job desired. Job's sins, however small, had made him God's enemy (Rom. 5:6-10). All the things Job experienced, and more were endured by Jesus on the cross to bring those who were His enemies back to Him.

One of David's men tries to stop the Ark of the Covenant from falling off a cart and God strikes him dead for it...seems harsh, right? In today's episode, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie continue through their Strange Scriptures series and talk through an account in 1 Chronicles and 2 Samuel about a man named Uzzah who is struck dead for trying to prevent the Ark of the Covenant from falling off the cart pulled by oxen. We dig into the greater context around this story, as well as what the Ark represented and how it was supposed to be handled to bring clarity to this immediate punishment. We look into practical applications for us as believers today and hope that this show will stick with you when reading through the tragic death of Uzzah. The 17:17 podcast is a ministry of Roseville Baptist Church (MN) that seeks to tackle cultural issues and societal questions from a biblical worldview so that listeners discover what the Bible has to say about the key issues they face on a daily basis.
