Ministers Reflect interviews show us what governing looks like from the inside. They offer a range of perspectives on what being a minister actually involves on a day-to-day basis, the different aspects of the job, and how ministers develop their approach to the role over time. To explore ministerial life and what the archive reveals about it, we were joined by Leighton Andrews, Professor of Practice in Public Service Leadership at Cardiff University, and a former Minister for Education and Minister for Public Services in the Welsh government. Leighton not only uses Ministers Reflect interviews in his teaching about government and policy making, but is also drawing on the archive in a forthcoming book about ministerial leadership. Tim Durrant, Programme Director at the Institute for Government This event was part of the IfG's Ministers Reflect one-day conference.

Everyone has their own belief in religion. I spoke with Dr. David Elcott because he has his own beliefs and he wanted to be heard. He has being doing research and Keepin It Real was interested in the research and wanted to know more about it. David Elcott has spent the last thirty years at the intersection of community building, the search for a theory of cross-boundary engagement, and interfaith and ethnic organizing and activism. Trained in political psychology and Middle East affairs at Columbia University and Judaic studies at the American Jewish University, Dr. Elcott is the Taub Professor of Practice in Public Service and Leadership at the Wagner School of Public Service at NYU and faculty director of the Advocacy and Political Action specialization at Wagner. Over the past twelve years, Dr. Elcott has worked to build a robust training program of community organizing and advocacy campaigns housed at Wagner to effectively address the pressing domestic and international issues we faceDr. Elcott was formally the Vice-President of the National Center for Learning and Leadership, a think-tank tasked with training community leaders to rethink the nature of contemporary community and civic obligation. As Interreligious Affairs Director of the American Jewish Committee and as the Executive Director of the Israel Policy Forum, David has addressed a wide array of public policy issues, building interfaith and interethnic coalitions to address Middle East peace, immigration reform, civil liberties and criminal justice reform. He has mediated conflicts between and among religious communities in the U.S. and around the world, finding collaborations and solutions on issues as diverse as posthumous Mormon Baptisms, financing the World Lutheran Federation's hospital in Jerusalem, the conflicts over The Passion of the Christ, and Israeli-Palestinian issues with many members of the National Council of Churches and the Catholic Church while working with Israelis and Palestinians on non-violent activism. For decades, he also has engaged German and Jewish religious and political leaders on reconciliation including ongoing work with the Evangelical Church of the Rhineland (where he keynoted at their annual plenum) and meetings with political and academic leaders such as Joschka Fischer and Angela Merkel. He led a major immigration action at the Arizona-Mexican border and helped organize national demonstrations for immigration reform. His present research is focused in a number of inter-related areas: Launched with Ford Foundation grants, Dr. Elcott addresses how religious leaders can constructively affect civil discourse and democracy, searching for pathways for positive religious involvement in civic affairs. He has published studies on how Christians across the political spectrum translate faith into policy and politics. With colleagues, he is exploring the intersections of social identity, teamwork, marginalization and grit. With past grants from the Meyerhoff and Taub Foundations, he seeks to mobilize the Baby-Boomer cohort for enhanced civic engagement and encore professional and volunteer careers in public service. He has written A Sacred Journey: The Jewish Quest for a Perfect World and numerous articles and monographs on religion and politics, power and war, minority civic engagement, and cross-cultural pluralism. He has represented the Jewish community in interfaith settings in Europe, South America and Asia. David book "In Faith, Nationalism, and the Future of Liberal Democracy," David Elcott, C. Colt Anderson, Tobias Cremer, and Volker Haarmann present a pragmatic and modernist exploration of how religion engages in the public square. Elcott and his co-authors are concerned about the ways religious identity is being used to foster the exclusion of individuals and communities from citizenship, political representation. Marsha believes that everyone has the opportunity to breathe new life into their lives even when they have made mistakes along the way. She encourages and empowers men and women to look within and see who they really are, what they can become, and how they can experience the life, they truly deserve regardless of their past mistakes. Her career as an educator, counselor, and mentor is founded upon the belief that everyone can live the life divinely intended for them and she helps these individuals find healing from past hurts as she guides them through the transformation.            Marsha's vision for Amiracle4sure emerged from her own personal experiences. As a child, she witnessed and experienced various levels of abuse. Becoming a young mother without any knowledge of child rearing, she sought for love in all the wrong places. Trapped in an abusive marriage for 10 years she turned to drugs and ended in prison where she served 3 years. Her transformation started on the inside, learning to start with forgiving self and then allowing God to work through the rest, she found solace in knowing the God had a plan for her future. After discovering how to create a map for her own life, she wanted to share her experience and knowledge with individuals with similar life experiences. It has since become her mission to help men and women believe, create, and attain their intended life dreams. She uses mentoring to fulfill this mission, along with ministry, consulting, and speaking opportunities. Marsha has been home for 25 years now and she has taken these skills to prisons, rehabilitation facilities, and churches with the intention of educating communities on the needs of this population. She has successfully trained and empowered professionals interested in working in reentry practices. Marsha's commitment to helping others restore their lives after incarceration is evident by her community involvement. She earned her Associates Degree at Harrisburg Area Community College, where she became the First African American Student Government President, receiving her Bachelor's Degree at Lebanon Valley College, while chartering their first Kiwanis Circle K Club, and then graduating with Honors, she earned her Master's Degree in Public Service Leadership. She believes the knowledge gained in these areas partnered with her empathic approach she is able to deliver service with excellence. As an advocate for reformation, Marsha brings her “expert by experience” to the table of various community organizations. She sits on the Board of Directors for Council of State Government, Trainer and Facilitator for Healing Communities of PA, and Advisory Board Member for Correctional Ministries Chaplains Association. Marsha is also the lead vocalist for The God Squad, a ministry that shares worship and carries a message of hope to those in homeless shelters, rehabilitation centers, local transitional houses, and prisons.
