Joachim Meyerhoffs sechster Teil seiner Erinnerungsgeschichten.

Have you asked yourself what it takes to transform your life against all odds? Curious about the mindset of someone who went from incarceration to inspiring others with a top podcast? In this podcast episode, I had the privilege of speaking with Peter Meyerhoff, the host of "Roll Call with Chappy." Peter, who faced challenges like incarceration, emerged stronger, creating a successful podcast that reaches incarcerated individuals nationwide. We explored various topics, from setting ambitious goals and overcoming setbacks to his unique workout strategies and dietary insights. Peter's candidness offered a raw and real perspective on personal development and the unexpected paths life can take. Peter shared his philosophy on setting ambitious goals, emphasizing that one never knows their capabilities until they try. Reflecting on his own experiences, he pointed out the importance of reassessing goals over time, avoiding self-imposed limits, and continuously seeking personal growth. The conversation flowed into fitness, where Peter stressed the significance of strategic workouts, moving away from heavy lifting, and adopting high-intensity training. He opened up about his routine, mixing strength and cardio, while acknowledging the mental health benefits of pushing himself physically. Diving into coaching strategies, Peter suggested focusing on exercises with a lower risk of injury for virtual clients, incorporating cables and emphasizing good form. He also touched upon his newfound appreciation for meal prep, urging people to simplify their diets by outsourcing nutrition through reliable meal delivery services. The discussion expanded to the psychological aspects of workouts, emphasizing the need to keep oneself busy in the gym to avoid negative thoughts and potential quitting triggers. Is academia beyond mere reform? How do we engage with wisdom, knowledge, and learning without the shibboleth of "education" - I talk with all of this and more with radical and researcher Eli Meyerhoff!
At some point all men find themselves fighting an inner war. Do not run from these battles; do not seek peace. For your character will be forged through these wars. Your integrity will chastened through their fires. Your will shall become emboldened from these campaigns. Do not seek the softness of peace that a weaker man would run and hide into. Instead purposly seek out the fight and sprint towards the conflict that will set you apart from all others. Become the shelter and safe haven for those in need, become the protection and shield for the weak, become the servant and steward of all. To become peace you first must BECOME WAR.

The last chapter is about acquiring mental strength and switching mindset from negative to positive thoughts. ● At the end of the book, he writes about teaching inmates how to be successful through prison curriculum. This week we are re-airing an interview from November 10th, 2019, by Scott Branson with Eli Meyerhoff about his book “Beyond Education: Radical Studying for Another World”. In this book, Meyerhoff “traces how key elements of education emerged from histories of struggles in opposition to alternative modes of study bound up with different modes of world-making. Taking inspiration from Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street, and Indigenous resurgence projects, he charts a new course for movements within, against, and beyond the university as we know it.” and this quote is from the University of Minnesota webpage, who also published his book. This interview covers a lot of issues such as the historical and colonial construction of what we think of today as education. In this interview, Scott and Eli talk about his book, the vast terrain that the book covers, experiences in academia when one is operating as politically radical, and some alternatives to education that we can see and experience in the world around us. Eli Meyerhoff can be found at elimeyerhoff.com and the Abolition University at abolition.university. . ... . .. Featured Tracks: LSD – School's For Fools Suburban Studs – I Hate School

On this episode of The Report Card, Nat interviews Freeman Hrabowski. Nat and Freeman discuss Black students in STEM, the state of free speech on college campuses, university spending and how to keep costs down, whether high schools are doing a good enough job of preparing students for college, the NCAA tournament, campus culture, the value of collaborative teamwork, how to improve graduation rates, multibillion-dollar university endowments, and more. Freeman Hrabowski served as president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) from 1992 until earlier this year. Under his leadership, UMBC became the nation's number one college in terms of the number of Black students it graduates who later earn a Ph.D. in the natural sciences and engineering—an especially impressive feat when you consider that UMBC's undergraduate enrollment is only about 11,000 and that Black students make up slightly less than 20% of that number. During Hrabowski's tenure, UMBC also more than doubled graduation rates, earned the #1 ranking in US News's list of up and coming universities for six consecutive years, and won the biggest upset in the history of March Madness. Every climber has at some point on their journey thought about building their own wall. For most, this is just a passing notion and they realise what a ridiculous idea it is. Some some however this dream became a reality during the Covid lockdowns as everyone built their own little home board. Their own 3x3m sanctuary. But that just wasn't enough for Matt. Matt went mad. Matt built a 600m2 bouldering wall, in a shopping centre, during the lockdowns... by himself! Legend! I actually recorded the interview 8 months ago, so its a little dated but I hope you enjoy hearing about Matts crazy journey here on ScotRock.

In an era of spectacular thoroughbreds, Spectacular Bid was perhaps the most exalted racehorse of them all. In 1979 he won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes—and transcended his sport on a run of twelve consecutive stakes victories—but his quest for the Triple Crown was lost with a third‑place finish in the Belmont Stakes due to a series of bizarre events that have never been accurately reported. In The Fast Ride, Jack Gilden tells the story of what really happened that day the Bid lost the biggest race of his life. Along the way, he introduces the reader to a cast of characters from the gilded age of late twentieth‑century horse racing, from Bid's owners, the renowned Meyerhoff family, to Grover “Buddy” Delp, the fast‑talking trainer, to teenage jockey Ronnie Franklin, whose meteoric rise to fame aboard Spectacular Bid came at the cost of his innocence and well‑being. Also present are four of the era's magnificent Latino riders, Ángel Cordero Jr., Jacinto Vasquez, Georgie Velasquez, and Ruben Hernandez, who all felt the sting of rejection and bigotry during their long careers even as they found their way and raised the level of competition to a feverish pitch. Underlying Spectacular Bid's saga was a thin line between hard work and excess, including substance abuse, animal manipulation and doping, and race fixing. Hardly anyone in the horse's circle made it out unscathed or undamaged. The Fast Ride is the story of a great racehorse, unfulfilled dreams, the exhilaration and steep price of striving at all costs, and an American era in which getting everything you ever wanted could be the most empty and unfulfilling sensation of all. Jack Gilden is a past winner of the Simon Rockower journalism award. He is the author of Collision of Wills: Johnny Unitas, Don Shula, and the Rise of the Modern NFL (Nebraska, 2018). He also consults for businesses about their messaging and teaches journalism and composition at the college level. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/steve-richards/support

This episode I have an explorative and deep convo with Peter Meyerhoff, host of the podcast Roll Call with Chappy. I met Peter at the Turning Point USA Convention in Phoenix, we clicked immediately and chatted briefly about his episode on the show “I Was A Teenage Felon” on Vice TV, and his story absolutely blew my mind from start to finish! I am honored to have him on the show to talk about his amazing life story through all the ups and downs he's experienced. As a kid, he had the world in his palm so to speak… it changed rather quickly due to drug abuse and a reckless criminal lifestyle. From a model, movie gig and star athlete… 18 year old Peter found himself in the most unfortunate position of facing 12 years in state prison. We get into a full range of topics primarily surrounding Peters Meyerhoff's journey through life and diving into the specifics such as… His upbringing and family… specific events that led him to his 12 year sentencing… what life was like in prison for “Chappy”… his nickname he was rewarded in prison… we explain that as well haha... his struggles inside the bars and his struggles when he finally got outside of them… abusing alcohol and nearly dying from a drug overdose… which changed his life once and for all… he commitment to get and STAY SOBER… we further discuss how he emerged from the darkness and became a multi-millionaire within 5 years after getting out of prison… but end up dropping that career to chase even deeper and more meaningful dreams and aspirations… like his podcast, his SOBRLIFE clothing line and Application which will help people in recovery with sobriety… and he is also taking his own curriculum to jails and prisons to help inmates find the same success that he found even when it seemed his whole world was against him. Oh and briefly some politics here and there and at the end of course… Here are some links to peep... if you are interested in learning more about Chappy and his incredible cause… Website/Clothing Brand: https://petermeyerhoff.com/ Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/roll-call-with-chappy/id1588752790 YouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCpa6ABvtPcSSwM2LJvuLv0w Enjoy. Peter “Chappy” Meyerhoff sits down with his brother Matt Jr.. The younger Meyerhoff looks back on the horror of witnessing his older brother's descent into drugs and thievery, while feeling powerless to help since Matt was only an 8th grader at the time.Matt remembers endless nights filled with tears following Peter's sentencing and enduring those 12 long years with nothing but hope in his heart. He recalls Peter's release and the grand welcome he prepared for his brother, including a festive gathering of family and friends and a brand new flatscreen TV.This, of course, wasn't the end of the darkest chapter of the Meyerhoffs' lives. Matt then reflects on those first few moments after hearing the news that Peter overdosed on drugs and his initial doubts that Peter would ever become sober. Finally, Matt assures Peter that giving up on his brother has never—and will never—become a possibility in his mind.Soon after Peter's decision to quit the car business right on the heels of his best month, Matt could see that there would be no limits to the amount of success and significance that would come Peter's way in the coming years.Topics Discussed: [01:26] Growing up as Peter's brother[03:07] What it was like to see Peter's descent and going to jail for 12 years[07:46] The fear of extensions to Peter's sentence[12:47] Matt reflects on the day Peter was finally released from prison[19:39] The day of Peter's overdose[22:58] Why Matt knew he would never give up on Peter[26:27] Matt's reaction to Peter's decision to quit at the car business after his best monthConnect with Peter Meyerhoff: Website InstagramTikTokFacebookEmail: petermeyerhoff.info@gmail.comKey Quotes:I knew when I didn't die that day that I was saved for a much bigger purpose, and it's to help people save lives. ~ChappyI know you were going to be successful doing whatever the fuck you want. Whatever you decide, literally anything, you're just going to grind until it happens. If one thing doesn't work out, you'll find another thing. ~MattOne thing that prison taught me was hustle. When you don't have too many options, you acquire a great knack to just figure shit out. ~Chappy
What does success after prison look like? For many it's simply never reoffending. But to others like Peter, it's all hard work, no excuses, getting it done. This is Peters personal story. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theshotcaller/support
