The Tennessee Titans finally did what had been expected for so long. They fired special teams coordinator Colt Anderson after one year on the job. His replacement, John Fassel, has a long and productive history as an NFL special teams coordinator and looks -- by any measure -- to be a serious upgrade. ... Four other assistants are out or have moved on after their contracts were not renewed. One was passing game coordinator (defense) and cornerbacks coach Chris Harris, who arrived as part of Mike Vrabel's staff a couple years ago amid much fanfare. ... A week after Mike Borgonzi was hired as general manager, the Titans added two to their front office staff who have experience in that role. Former NFL general managers Reggie McKenzie and Dave Zieglers either give Tennessee an abundance of experience in roster-building and decision-making or they have too many cooks who ultimately will spoil the stew. ... The bulk of the Titans' personnel department spent last week at the East-West Shrine Bowl but did not see much of the main attraction, Colorado quarterback Shadeur Sanders. That does not mean they won't consider the son of a Pro Football Hall of Famer with the No. 1 overall pick.

Well, and then there were four. NFL Conference Championship Weekend is here with only the Rams, Saints, Patriots and Chiefs alive in the race to Super Bowl LIII. Do you think these were the four best teams in the NFL this year, Hal? 1. Divisional Round Weekend Takeaways -Chiefs DL over-powering Colts OL and Rams ground game gashing the Cowboys on the ground are things nobody expected…and that’s what makes football so great -Hal: Saints had weakest rushing attack last weekend 2. Truth or Exaggeration -The Bears didn’t downgrade as much as some think at DC with their hire of Chuck Pagano -The Broncos did themselves a favor by not keeping Gary Kubiak as their OC and going with a more fresh face and modern scheme in former 49ers QB coach Rick Scangarello -Gary Kubiak is exactly who Kirk Cousins needs to take that next step for the Vikings -Mike Mayock is an upgrade over Reggie McKenzie for the Raiders at GM 3. Rams/Saints -Should the Rams keep that same run-first approach this weekend given the season-ending injury to Sheldon Rankins? -The Saints offense didn’t have to do much last week. I think they’ll have to do a lot more this week, do you? -Most important player for each team on offense and defense in this game -Game-deciding matchups -Prediction 4. Patriots/Chiefs -Why can the Patriots have more success on the ground against the Chiefs than the Colts did last weekend? Why can this Patriots OL contain this Chiefs pass rush unlike the unit that went against the Broncos pass rush on the road in the 2015 AFCCG? -Based on watching the film of their previous meeting this season, what concepts will the Patriots D use to try to contain and pressure Mahomes? -Does the change in weather forecast alter your prediction somewhat? -Most important player for each team on offense and defense in this game -Game-deciding matchups -Prediction 5. Divisional Round Weekend Bold Predictions -Me: Patriots will gash the Chiefs for over 250 rushing yards -Hal: 6. Challenge Flags -Me: Chiefs…don’t be afraid to beat the Patriots at their own game by running the ball and playing keep-away from Tom Brady -Hal: Rams…don’t abandon the run even if the Saints jump out ahead early Thank you Hal…and that’s it for today here on Sports Krunch, but tomorrow through Thursday, we will be back in Mobile, Alabama for the second straight year covering the 2019 Reese’s Senior Bowl. TOPICS: Segment #1: "Raiders and NFL News Stories" Breaking News…..Free Agent Jason Campbell signed a one year contract with the Chicago Bears today. We also cover the story of Randy Moss being signed by the San Francisco 49ers, and we hear some audio from Bay Area radio station 95.7 "The Game" featuring Zack Crockett. Zach is currently an Oakland Raiders scout, and he gives his recollections of what Randy Moss was like as a Raiders teammate. Segment #2: "The Free Agent Fiasco" The 2012 NFL Free Agency period began today with over 600 free agents! Normally there are around 400, but the lockout has resulted in 50% more free agents than usual. This should mean players being available at relatively lower salaries with all the competition for spots. It will be interesting to see who Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen decide to go after. Raider Greg gives his opinion. Segment #3: "The Cap Crap" The Redskins were recently penalized $36 Million and the Cowboys $10 Million for salary cap violations prior to the 2010 season. Unfortunately the Raiders were found in violation also, to a lesser extent, so they will not be able to share the extra cap money that is being divided by 28 teams. The Saints also will not get the 1.6 Million in extra cap space. Segment #4: "Raiders Shaking It Up In Free Agency" Raider Greg recaps some of the recent moves the Raiders have made in order to clear some cap space and get ready for free agency. We also hear from Raiders insider John Dickinson during an interview on 95.7 "The Game", plus more from Zack Crockett. Segment #5: "Our Boneline Voicemail Segment" This week's callers: 01. TOPICS: Segment #1: "Dennis Allen's coaching staff is almost complete" Coach Allen has his coaching staff almost complete. He retained Al Saunders as "Senior Offensive Assistant", which is being widely regarded as a great thing. His staff is young, and many are from the college ranks, but Raider Greg and many others are optimistic. We also listen to the thoughts of Raiders media man John Dickinson from FM 95.7 "The Game". Segment #2: "Reggie McKenzie is moving and shaking" Reggie McKenzie's general manager's sword came down and cut cornerback Stanford Routt. Was it a cap move? Was it performance related? Both? Is he sending a message to the other players? Looks like this off-season will be very interesting. Free agency and the draft are approaching. What other moves will McKenzie make to either pick up free agents or acquire more draft choice possibly?
