The best part about running your own show like this is being able to decide who you highlight and have on. In an industry with so many people constantly working hard to deliver great experiences to guests, it is hard to tell every story out there, but I can try. In this episode, my friend Brandon Howard joins me. Brandon is a great bartender and friend, and can be found behind the stick at the ever-popular StillWater Spirits & Sounds in Dana Point, CA. This bar/restaurant/live music venue is a South County staple, and Brandon handles his duties there with some serious skill. We sit down to talk about his time in the industry, day-to-day life at StillWater, and why he is exactly the type of person this podcast was designed to highlight - enjoy! The Best Ceats Podcast brings unprecedented access to the Orange County hospitality industry each and every episode. The distribution coincides with the onset of flu season and reports of increased RSV cases in various regions. Brandon shares insights with us about his award winning essay focusing on what makes a successful leader. He shares insights on the importance of dynamic leadership, the impact of a positive culture and motivation, how to juggle priorities, and overall, how positive conflict leads to max productivity. “Many Hats: I don't think you can just be one thing and be a successful leader. Because if you're kind of a ‘one trick pony' for a lack of better terms I think that might be successful in certain occasions, but then it's not going to serve you across, every call, every personal conflict, every hazard that we face…you can't just be this ‘one trick pony' and hope to limp your way through a career as lieutenant. This week on Beer Sessions Radio, Jimmy is diving deeper into the world of craft malt. On the show are Phil Neumann and Kether Scharff-Gray from Mainstem Malt in Walla Walla, WA; Brandon Howard from Amalga Distillery in Juneau, AK; and Emily Hutto from Rad Craft Beer. Brandon introduces us to Alaskan grown barley, starting with the legendary “Failed Barley Experiment.” Kether then gets us up to speed on the Mainstem “hub,” which extends way beyond just a malthouse. Phil explains why Mainstem is a bit of an odd duck in the craft malt community, and what supply chain management looks like day-to-day. Then, it's Emily's turn to piece the puzzle together, projecting Mainstem and Amalga's vision and relationship out into the world. After the break, Phil explains what it means to be “Craft Malt Certified,” and the resources the Guild provides to make storytelling easier. American farmers are essential to both the story and the malting process, and Brandon speaks to how important it is to be the stewards of the story. To wrap things up, the gang talks about crowdfunding, scaling exports, and judging craft malt quality professionally.Photo Courtesy of Phil Neumann. If you count on HRN content, become a monthly sustaining donor at heritageradionetwork.org/donate.Beer Sessions Radio is Powered by Simplecast.

His work has really taken off since then, so having him on to talk about his journey as an artist was a lot of fun. We also talked about balancing his art while working a 9-to-5 job, working with big clients, and creating new work through the pandemic. On this special explosive and in-depth edition of Light ‘Em Up we investigate the facts of a cold-blooded murder. Our guest today is Ms. Kimkeshia Johnson-Byron. She’s the mother of Ter’Rion Dunn, a young man who has been charged with capital murder in the robbery-shooting death of Brandon Howard. We dig deep and investigate behind the scenes and ask why is Ter’Rion Dunn being charged with capital murder – when we believe he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time? It is scary, this can happen to you. “An injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This case has kept me up at night. I have prayed and prayed over this and spent hours over the case file and given it much thought. With our Criminal Justice Foundation called “Justice Rolls Down”, we wanted to lend our voice to this cause where we could. Something doesn’t sit well with me. Something in this specific case is off, way off! The fact pattern is: Monday, December 2, 2019 was just another day in Butler, Alabama, 35 miles or so southeast of Meridian, Mississippi. Thoughts were starting to turn towards Christmas. The “Christmas on Courthouse Square” parade and festivities were a few days away. But all that was about to forever change for a number of young people, their families and friends. Ter’Rion Dunn goes over to visit a friend, Brandon Howard. Just before 9 p.m. a knock came on a door at the Bedford Pines Apartments. It is 23-year-old Ollie Curtis III. He’s armed and there to rob Brandon Howard. A struggle ensues, Howard is fatally shot. According to subsequent statements, Curtis then put his gun to Ter’Rion Dunn’s head, demanding money and drugs. He threatened harm to Dunn’s grandma if he didn’t comply. It was the 1st murder in Choctaw County, Alabama, on the 336th day of the year.We examine: ● What do you do when the system is so corrupt that it would permit a glaring conflict of interest whereby the prosecuting attorney is the brother of his court appointed defense attorney? ● You know you are innocent but no one will listen to you. What do you do if you are wrongly accused --- having your liberty robbed from you? ● The alleged gunman was granted and posted a $150,000 bond last March. Ter’Rion Dunn -- who had no knowledge of the robbery before or during -- was only visiting with a friend, but has been stuck in prison – charged with capital murder! Things like this happen all across our country, but most especially in wee little southern towns like Butler, Alabama. Race and class play a role in everything in the United States of America. We have to pause for a moment and remember where all this is happening.Alabama, one of the poorest states in the union. A state where >300 African-Americans were lynched from 1877 to 1943. A state whose population is just over a quarter Black, where >1/2 the people in custody are Black, according to Alabama Appleseed.Alabama makes consistent choices that prioritize punishment and deprivation over prosperity. The consequences of refusing to invest in education, healthcare, and equitably distributed infrastructure have been devastating for many communities. But make no mistake: by design and in practice, those consequences are borne most brutally by Black Alabamians. The details of this case are disturbing and troubling. If “Justice delayed is justice denied”, this case is crying out for justice. A young man’s life hangs in the balance. You will not want to miss this explosive episode!Tune in and be enlightened, educated and empowered! Thanks so much! Phil Rizzo Executive Producer

Over the weekend we did an open carry freedom walk in Richmond with fellow Virginian, Brandon Howard from The Right to Bear Arms organization. A gun is a sign of power and freedom. So what exactly are the gun laws in Virginia? And why is the right to bear arms so important that it’s the only amendment with an added description “shall not be infringed”?

*** The first 30 minutes was an explaination of Action Radio, which was also simulcast Facebook live to the Action Radio with Greg Penglis main page. Our regular reports 30 minutes in included Karen Hoffman with the Hoffman Report, and Shelby Frennette with Travel Talk. The second hour was a wild free for all discussion of Second Amendment issues. Jonathan Moseley is a gun rights and constitutional rights lawyer, and Brandon Howard a retired Army sniper and now Second Amendment advocate including being arrested on bogus, unconstitutional laws. They both have great stories to tell, and lots to talk about with gun rights being attacked by the very government officials sworn to uphold our gun and constitutional rights. It was quite a show today.
