Even if a need is deemed a medical necessity, it can still impact education and thus a school must provide that service Cases that further explain what “related services” are Irving Independent School District vs. Tatro (1984) - Court found that catheterization was a related service under the now IDEA and the school had to provide that service during school hours Cedar Rapids Community School District vs. Garret F. (1999) – Court found that the IDEA requires school boards to provide continuous nursing services to students with special needs. Here, the Court found that a student who was wheelchair-bound and ventilator dependent, required, in part, a responsible individual nearby to attend to certain physical needs during the school day. Does the law require school personnel to be trained to provide certain medical services? Resources Mentioned: 20 U.S.C. Section 1401(26) defines “related services” IDEA Thank you for listening! Norah Merritt (Executive Director of Educational Programs), Barbara Cesario (Coordinator of Related Services), and Leah Pollack (Administrator of the PEACCE program) about the scope of BOCES and its special services. BOCES supplies “solutions, services, and savings” for K-12 students and beyond through three main centers in Poughkeepsie as well as itinerant teachers who work as visitors in all of the County’s school districts. Although many local residents think primarily of BOCES Career and Technical Institute or the Adult Learning Institute, this program focuses mainly on programs for the deaf and hearing impaired and for the autism spectrum disorder, especially the PEACCE (Providing an Education for Autistic and Communication-Impaired Children Effectively) program. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/radiorotary/support

Among the most prominent theoretical frameworks dealing with the economic underlyings of firms’ make-or-buy decisions are Transaction Cost Economics (TCE) and the Resourced Based View (RBV). Relying on panel data covering 107 European firms over eight years I test predictions from both TCE and RBV with regard to the outsourcing of patent related services simultaneously. Modelling the share of outsourced patent applications in a Negative Binomial Panel Regression Model I find joint explanatory power of both approaches. My findings support previous literature arguing for an integration of TCE and RBV to a comprehensive theoretical framework of firms make-or-buy decisions.
