Ken Rusk is author of the WSJ bestselling book "Blue-Collar Cash" and highly successful entrepreneur in the trades of Rusk Industries. His insights have been featured in Forbes, USA Today, Fox Business, and more. In this episode, Ken dives deep into three limiting beliefs about leading and scaling successful blue collar businesses. The first is the preposterous myth that a blue collar career in the trades is not a viable path to fulfillment and impact. We quickly dispatch that nonsense and celebrate how that trend is changing. The second limit is for those that choose the blue collar path, they can let their identity be narrowly defined by their skill or craft. This also afflicts white collar workers promoted to leadership levels who often feel it is only up to them to get a certain job done. This stunts their growth, locking them in as a solopreneur. Ken reframes this identity to honor your skill while also unlocking the power of scale. He also compares the satisfaction of a job well done versus the joy of helping others do a job well. The third limit is the belief that we can't fine motivated employees. Here Ken reframes from motivating to inspiring. He shares his specific methods for interviewing, clarifying, and reinforcing inspired intrapreneurs, who can take your business to levels beyond your imagination. He has a great take on renaming "goals" to "timed paths to success." For an empowering employee development opportunity, check out his impactful course, "The Path to a Successful Life" at www.KenRusk.com. These 8 short lessons with some guided reflection is a powerful way to help your employees as individuals or as a book club team effort to define their individual life focus that puts them in total control of achieving it. Additional Resources Ken is the President of Rusk Industries. Current book. "Blue-Collar Cash." Current digital short course. "The Path to a Successful Life." Blue-collar work is often stigmatized but is highly valuable. Self-limiting beliefs can hinder entrepreneurial growth. True entrepreneurs create scalable systems and delegate tasks. Understanding your identity is crucial for growth.

Ken Rusk started his first job as a ditch digger at 15 and turned that into a successful company: Rusk Industries. Decades of skilled labor, entrepreneurship and coaching have led Ken to share all his insights in his book Blue Collar Cash.Blue collar jobs don't get the credit they deserve, and Ken is on a mission to change that. By pursuing a skilled trade, individuals can build their dream life while working for themselves. We sat down with Ken to talk about the incredible opportunities available to those who pursue blue collar jobs, and how working with your hands and for yourself can lead to a life of peace, comfort and freedom.3 Big Takeaways from this episode:America is built on blue collar jobs: From the time you step out of bed until the time you get to work, you've already come across the work and products of 1,000 blue collar jobs. The work of skilled tradespeople is critical to our everyday lives, but we don't have enough people entering these fields to replace those retiring. Ken shares some insightful data on the economic impact, wages, and lifestyle of blue collar workers that may surprise you.Blue collar jobs provide comfort, peace and freedom: Comfort, peace, freedom. In life, these are really the things we seek. The popular belief that students must pursue a four-year degree and work in an office to earn enough to live a life of comfort, peace and freedom is just not true. College isn't for everyone, and blue collar careers have the potential to give students more freedom, less debt, and a fulfilling hands-on career that brings the peace they're looking for. Parents, teachers and students will benefit from Ken's message around these three key elements.Draw out the life you want, get specific, and then build a set of goals to get there: Ken has coached thousands of individuals in his life and company, and he's developed a system to help people vision the life they want and then build it. In this episode, you'll learn how to draw your dream life, get specific about the things you're after, and then discover a path that will help you build that life.ResourcesLearn more about Ken: https://www.kenrusk.com/Love the insights you heard in this episode and want to dig deeper? On the second episode of the Skilled Trade Series on The Gas Compression Podcast, host Michael Haning welcomes Ken Rusk, President of Rusk Industries and author of the book, Blue Collar Cash. Ken is a professional ditch digger. He started doing it as a summer job in high school and eventually started his own company, which today includes over 200 team members. Ken talks about the decision that high schools made in the 80s to get rid of shop classes and replace them with computer classes, and he brings up a good point: Why did it have to be an either/or decision? He is not anti-college, but the reality is that college just isn't the right path for some young people. People who learn a skill and work in the trades can make just as much or more than people with a college degree, and they aren't saddled with a massive amount of debt from student loans. He believes that creating a positive culture is critical to having a successful company in the trades. Invest in your people. Find out their goals. Celebrate with them when goals are achieved. Your people are your best asset. @Ken Rusk Blue Collar Cash Gas Compression Magazine Michael Haning DISCO Disco Inc. Looking for an expert partner in gas compression repair?
