You can't “manage time” if you refuse to learn to price it well. We've all done it: obsess over small savings, then burn an hour on chores, admin, or digital clutter that someone else or an AI assistant could handle faster and better. That trade feels harmless in the moment, but over weeks and months it quietly steals hours of deep work, creativity, relationships, and the energy that makes life feel worth living.Would any company pay a CEO rate and then assign assistant-level tasks?Yet that's exactly what many high-performing professionals do with their own calendars, inboxes, file organization, and logistics. We'll talk about opportunity cost and decision fatigue you often end up paying. We'll get practical with artificial intelligence tools like Claude and other AI assistants that can act like a low-cost operations partner, helping you organize information, set priorities, and reduce the small decisions that drain your day. You'll also learn an easy “buy back your time” calculation inspired by Dan Martel: estimate your hourly rate, divide it by four, and use that number as a guide for what you can outsource or automate. The goal isn't to cram more work into your schedule, it's to reclaim hours for high-value work, better living, career growth, better sleep and stress management, and the people and passions you keep postponing. If you're ready to stop treating your life like it's cheap, hit play, do the quick hourly-rate exercise, and choose one task to hand off today.Subscribe for more practical mindset and performance tools, share this with a friend who's drowning in busy work, and leave a review so more people can start buying back their time.Text Me Your Thoughts and IdeasSupport the showBrought to you by Angela Shurina Certified Health, Sleep, Performance & Executive Coach 360 with 18 years of experience helping people change to feel, be and do their best.

The labor market is unlike anything staffing veteran Krista DiGiacomo has seen in 24 years, and she's not mincing words about why. In this episode, Krista, franchise owner of Express Employment Professionals in Vancouver, Washington, joins host Brandon Laws to unpack the growing skills gap reshaping hiring today. From soft skills like punctuality and reliability, to hard skills like reading blueprints and running a budget, employers are struggling and the education system is a big part of the story. Krista makes a compelling case for rethinking the four-year degree mandate, investing in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, and why the skilled trades may be the most future-proof career path in an age of AI. If you're an employer, job seeker, parent, or anyone invested in the future of work, this is an episode you can't afford to miss. ⏱️ KEY TIMESTAMPS 00:00 – Welcome & Introduction: Krista DiGiacomo joins the show as the first-ever Express Employment Professionals guest in 580+ episodes 00:51 – The State of the Labor Market: What Krista is seeing on the front lines after 24 years in staffing and why she's never seen anything quite like this 01:19 – The Skills Gap Unpacked: Soft skills (attendance, reliability, punctuality) and hard skills (blueprints, budgets, trade knowledge) are both in short supply 02:53 – Who Uses a Staffing Agency? A graduation-season episode turns into a surprisingly deep conversation about careers in the age of AI, anchored by a New York Times article from Jodi Kantor. Don and Tom explore the idea that successful careers are built not by chasing trends, but by developing a personal “craft” and aligning it with real-world need. They connect that concept to investing discipline—ignore noise, focus on what you can control—and emphasize experimentation early in life. The back half pivots to listener questions, where Don dismantles buffered ETFs as overly complex, critiques commission-laden annuity practices masquerading as fiduciary advice, clarifies Social Security spousal benefits, and takes apart the flawed comparison between low-cost index bond funds and leveraged, high-fee active products like the PIMCO Income Fund. The throughline: complexity, whether in careers or investing, is usually a trap.0:05 Graduation season and why young people face a radically different job market1:36 AI, automation, and the uncertainty of future careers2:00 NYT article breakdown—“craft” and “need” as career anchors5:01 Why developing a unique skill set matters more than chasing trends6:37 College as a poor place to discover real-world “craft”7:19 Weekly self-reflection exercise: track what you enjoy vs. hate7:30 Generational career fads—from Japan to “plastics”9:15 Mentorship vs. going it alone in career development10:50 Real-world example: finding a career through evolving skills12:00 Parallels between career decisions and investing discipline13:39 Taking risks early in life when stakes are lower14:32 Listener question: buffered ETFs vs. bonds for stability17:11 Why buffered ETFs deliver limited upside and hidden risks19:39 Counterparty risk explained with 2008 auction-rate securities story21:56 Simpler alternatives: CDs and municipal bonds23:47 Industry hypocrisy: annuities inside “fiduciary” environments24:46 Why putting IRA money into annuities makes no sense25:30 Social Security spousal benefit basics explained26:39 Advisor claim: higher fees justified in certain asset classes27:57 Breaking down active bond fund risks vs. index funds29:44 Leverage dangers in funds like PIMCO Income31:38 SPIVA reality: active managers rarely outperform long termQuestions? Most sales outreach blends into the noise not because sellers lack effort, but because they approach prospects the same way everyone else does. In this episode, Ashley Winston breaks down why traditional outreach tactics fall flat and how sales professionals can stand out by leading with relevance, clarity, and genuine curiosity. We explore how to create conversations that feel natural, human, and worth responding to.Why Prospects Ignore Most Sales Outreach (00:02:10 – 00:03:35)Ashley explains that buyers aren't ignoring messages because they're rude, they're overwhelmed.Generic outreach, vague value statements, and self-focused messaging give prospects no reason to engage. The real issue isn't volume, it's relevance. The Biggest Mistake Salespeople Make in Messaging (00:03:35 – 00:05:10)Most outreach talks about the seller instead of the buyer.Ashley shares why messaging that leads with credentials, features, or company history immediately creates disengagement.Prospects care less about who you are and more about whether you understand them. How to Personalize Without Overcomplicating It (00:05:10 – 00:06:55)Personalization doesn't mean writing long messages.Ashley explains how small signals like role relevance, timing, and context, dramatically increase response rates without extra effort.Relevance beats creativity every time.Using Curiosity Instead of Pressure (00:06:55 – 00:08:30)Rather than pushing meetings, Ashley encourages sellers to spark curiosity.Open-ended questions invite conversation and reduce resistance, making prospects feel in control instead of sold to.Pressure ends conversations. Curiosity starts them. How to Earn Replies Without Chasing Prospects (00:08:30 – 00:10:05)Ashley breaks down why follow-ups fail when there's no value added. Each touchpoint should introduce a new insight, observation, or reason to respond not just “checking in.”Silence is feedback. Adjust accordingly. What High-Performing Sellers Do Differently (00:10:05 – 00:12:10)Top performers focus on quality conversations, not activity metrics.Ashley explains how intentional outreach, patience, and consistency lead to better pipeline health and stronger relationships.Selling is about connection, not coercion.Key Lesson: Make It About Them, Not You (00:12:10 – 00:13:55)When outreach is centered on the buyer's world, challenges, and priorities, responses come naturally.Sales success comes from empathy, relevance, and respect, not persistence alone.“If your message doesn't immediately answer ‘Why should I care?', it won't get a reply.” – Ashley WinstonResourcesWant help applying these strategies directly to your pipeline and hitting your quota?Join The Sales Evangelist Mastermind, a 90-day program designed to help you close more deals and hit your number.Learn more at thesalesevangelist.com/mastermindSponsorship OffersThis episode is brought to you in part by HubSpot. With HubSpot Sales Hub, your data, tools, and teams come together on one platform to help you close deals faster. Education does NOT get you paid. Knowledge is NOT power. The only thing that matters in life (as it relates to your career success) is the value of the assets you produce. Some might call this the application of your knowledge. Right now, how do you feel about your renumeration in relation to your hard work? That's another little bugger. Hard work does NOT equal pay just like knowledge itself is not value. And don't even get me started about that variable called “time” and the inertia it produces when it comes to capping your value and earning power for that matter. If you're trading your muscles for money, your capacity to increase your income is limited. Even I trade my brain for money when I coach individuals, which caps my earning capacity because I can only coach one person during that one hour. If you're managing lots of people or I perform a group coaching session, our income capacity will still be handicapped in some way or another. How ‘bout, today, I help you understand the limiters and accelerators when it comes to earning power? We'll tie together the relationship between your skills and money too. Cool? Have you developed a healthy relationship with your finances? It is not an easy task, the topic of money never is, and each person's results vary, but it is one that can reward you for the rest of your life. Can't get ahead? Feel overwhelmed or uneducated about money? Make more but still end up behind or just treading water? Great at making it and just as good at disappearing it? Stressed, worried, or upset no matter how much you have?He hears you and you are not alone, he says. Most people have some version of these concerns when it comes to money. The problem is that what you are being told - 'just make more' - is not the answer. First, what if you've tried to make more money, but just can't seem to get off the financial hamster wheel?Second, if you can, what's the point if you are still stressed, worried or afraid about money? Or, if after making more money (and working your butt off to do so) you are still behind every month? Your Financial Thermostat determines how much money you can earn, and how much you can keep. It also determines your thoughts, feelings, and emotions around money. By resetting your Financial Thermostat, you can earn more, keep more, and create a healthy relationship with money...and yourself! https://www.periclesrellas.com/http://www.yourlotandparcel.org

We also take a call from a Stacker who wonders how to invest money she's rolled over into her IRA, AND we dive deep on Doug's incredible trivia question.FULL SHOW NOTES: https://stackingbenjamins.com/break-through-mental-blocks-achieve-success-1526Deeper dives with curated links, topics, and discussions are in our newsletter, The 201, available at https://www.stackingbenjamins.com/201Enjoy! Client acquisition is obviously an important part of running a freelance business because it's how you make sure you keep getting paid every month. Despite how obvious this is, many freelancers don't take this seriously enough... and it shows when work dries up and you're back into the dreaded feast-or-famine cycle. If you worked in a day job that decided to stop paying you for weeks or months at a time, you'd probably do something about it. However, many freelancers never do anything about this in their own business. They just keep showing up to "work" week after week, month after month, accepting their fate. If you'd like to be a better "boss" to yourself and actually make sure you get paid every month, this week's episode is all about avoiding some of the most common client acquisition mistakes If you stop making these mistakes and start taking client acquisition seriously, you'll have more stability, better projects, and fewer dry spells. What's not to like about that? In this episode you'll discover: Avoiding the basic mistakes that you make during client acquisition Adding value as a freelancer Why a high close rate is dangerous for your business How to increase your sales with a high-quality follow-up sequence Fix your pricing model!
