Stephanie Weissberg, a curator at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, stopped by to speak with Nancy about the Pulitzer and the current exhibition, Urban Archaeology: Lost Buildings of St. Louis. About Urban Archaeology: Drawn from the rich collection of the National Building Arts Center (NBAC), Urban Archaeology brings together salvaged architectural elements from landmark buildings, residential homes, and neighborhood institutions built in St. Louis between 1840 and 1950. The artifacts on display represent important histories of material innovation, labor, and the everyday lives of the people who inhabit the city. The exhibition sheds light on the city's history, revealing complicated legacies of power, wealth, and neglect that shape our experience of the built environment and daily life. By studying St. Louis's architectural past, Urban Archeology encourages us to imagine new ways of building, keeping, knowing, and inhabiting places. Located in Sauget, Illinois, the National Building Arts Center emerged in response to the rapid economic decline and widespread demolition the city experienced beginning in the 1950s. NBAC has worked over four decades to salvage and preserve significant parts of condemned buildings that would otherwise be completely lost, amassing the largest and most diversified collection of building artifacts in the United States. Urban Archaeology is the most extensive public presentation of NBAC's collection to date.
In the inaugural episode of House of Lou, St. Louis Magazine Design editor-and-chief Veronica Theodoro talks to interior designer Annie Brahler of Euro Trash. Annie is known for her longstanding commitment to historic preservation, as well as for designing spaces—from the kitchen to the living room—that are layered with vintage and antique wares. No detail is too small for the designer, and it shows in her award-winning work across the country. Annie's Webster Groves home was recently featured in the September 2023 issue of St. Louis Magazine, and we got an inside look at her studio space, also in Webster Groves, a few years ago. Listen in as Annie and Veronica share design ideas for the home, including tips for buying vintage and antiques in St. Louis (or, in some cases, "borrowing" them from loved ones). Veronica also recommends a new exhibition at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation that will both enlighten and inspire you. There's so much to see in St. Louis, if you know where to look. Got an idea for a future House of Lou episode? We love hearing from our audience. Send your thoughts or feedback to Veronica at vtheodoro@stlmag.com or to podcasts@stlmag.com. This week on the Lancaster Farming Hemp Podcast, we talk with James Forbes and Rich Selby from Tiber Fiber, a hemp processor near St. Louis with one facility in Fenton, Missouri, and another just across the Mississippi River in Sauget, Illinois. “We have a unique symbiotic relationship with our farmers in which we extend grower contracts and agreements along with feedstock and agronomy support to ensure that our farmers here in the Midwest are successful in growing the crop that we need to feed our hemp fiber processing plant,” said Forbes, co-founder and chief operations officer at Tiger Fiber. Selby is a co-founder of the company, the de facto chief financial officer, and he manages the agronomy program with Forbes. The partners met at the University of Missouri and founded Tiger Fiber with Jerred Killoren in 2018. In this episode, Selby and Forbes tell the story of the company, describe the processing facilities, explain how they contract with farmers, and share how they handle the challenge of building a company in a new industry. Selby said one of the options their farmers can choose is price per pound. He said they're contracting with a farm in Illinois that knocked it out of the park. “They showed me and all the rest of us how to farm it,” he said. “And they did 50 acres and they chose the price per pound option. And they made more money than they could make with corn and soybeans.” Tiger Fiber https://tigerfiberhemp.com/ Tiger Fiber on the Socials LI: tiger-fiber-hemp-company FB: tigerfiberhemp IG: @tigerfiber Thanks to our sponsors: Mpactful Ventures https://www.mpactfulventures.org/ IND HEMP https://indhemp.com/

Welcome to Episode 17 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. We finally made it, folks: the regionals are here. This is the first of our eight postseason regional preview podcasts -- this one focuses on the 8-team Central Regional which will take place in Sauget, Illinois. Before we dive into the eight Central competitors, we took some time to give some brief thoughts on the broader regional field and how we thought the committee did with the at-large bids (at 2:13). Then, we break down each of the eight teams. In order: #1 Webster (at 6:20) Can the Gorloks defend their home turf after recapturing the SLIAC title? #8 Thomas More (at 9:09) Fresh off taking down the 2017 national runner-ups, the Saints aren't an #8 seed to be taken lightly #2 UW-Whitewater (at 12:20) Daytona Bryden is almost definitely the National Player of the Year -- oh and they also have a bunch of other exceptionally awesome players. Good luck, Warhawk opponents. #7 Monmouth (at 16:13) The Fighting Scots and the McDonald twins will look to pull off the huge upset #3 Texas-Tyler (at 18:15) The Patriots will try and have a better showing after last year's letdown #6 Aurora (at 20:19) Knocking off Concordia-Chicago is no small feat; can they ride the momentum into the regional? #4 Rhodes (at 22:43) The SAA champs haven't played for a few weeks -- can they get rolling again? #5 Franklin (at 25:11) This preposterously ridiculous offense (62 dingers!!!!!!!!) hasn't faced much competition all year long. Is their lineup actually this amazing or are they in for a reality check? We conclude with our top players and pitchers to watch, and our pick to punch their ticket to Appleton (at 32:40). Then we say goodbye. Thanks for listening! Follow us on Twitter @d3baseballpod (DMs are open if you want to reach us there) and @CespedesBBQ.
