Cereal, specifically Shreddies, becomes the focus as we delve into Amanda's surprising connection to Campbell's Soup. And just when you think the night couldn't get any stranger, we dive into the nostalgic waters of "The Outsiders," uncovering some fascinating behind-the-scenes lore. Today, I have been GRIPPED by the urge to talk about cereal. Coincidentally, cereal is the focus of one of the films we review (it's not a coincidence). In an attempt to curb option paralysis, I am gustatorially unadventurous. But when I consider the myriad cereals on supermarket shelves, I can with confidence claim to have sampled the vast majority. Lit and watered by its nostalgic roots, cereal outgrows its edi-bedfellows. I han't and won't nibble upon such transatlantications as Count Chocula and the Froot Loop. Some of the products I soon mention will be American, but these FEEL American and a residual nationalism casts doubt upon their virtue. As red is the protagonist of the colours and the apple the principal of the fruits, the cereal Don to me will always be Coco Pops. It's been over a decade since our last acquaintance and I weep for all that is lost. It was touched by milk. So milk it too touched. Rice Krispies - the underboss, a worthy second whose wings are clipped by choclessness. Frosties - the third leg of that elementary triumvirate, Tony long since usurped by similar beasts (Crunchy Nut). METAPHOR SHIFT Corn Flakes - the granddaddy, the soggy stalwart and what a vile procession of words. Bran Flakes & Special K - the boring and fun parents, respectively, rightly concerned with the movement of one's bowels. Cheerios & Shreddies - good kids but nobody's favourites, are they? Shredded Wheat - the "different" cousin of whom we are nonetheless fond. METAPHOR SHIFT Weetabix - a wonderful teacher in the rewards of patience. Weetos - a lover whose time in one's life is certain to be short-lived. Because you love her so much. It can't be good for you. And good things like this don't last. Not for you... not for you. And Sugar Puffs - a relic of HOME, a place long gone but forever nestled behind our lives, that place we privately mourn, that pl-- I just found out that Sugar Puffs are now called Honey Monster Puffs. What the FUCKING FUCK?! They come for it all, don't they? METAPHOR COLLAPSE I'm hobbled by the character limit but believe me, I have more to say. On this ep, Jordan and I discuss ERIC, UNFROSTED and uvvers.
In this episode of “How do you Say That?!”, Nigel Williams joins Sam and Mark to talk about getting through long e-learning scripts, how translated scripts can be quick-quick-slow, and what do do with bowls and bowls of porridge! We'd love you to join in and send us your version of one of the reads in today's show – just pop it onto an mp3 and send it to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.ukScript 1The door to the apartment and door to the house were always open, as was the door to my father's study room. One Sunday we were sitting in the gothic parlour of the apartment, our father was taking a nap and our dog was asleep, too. Then, when father went down to the study room, he saw that someone had broken in. The burglar had tried to open the desk with a letter opener, but it broke. When that didn't work, the burglar went down to the basement and got a steel block; he used that block to break open the furniture and took the money. Fortunately, none of us heard anything and the dog did not bark. That was impressive.Script 2This winter has been tough for a lot of people, and not everyone has access to a warm and nutritious breakfast to start the day & fuel their fire insideThat's why Quaker is partnering with charities like FareShare, to donate up to two point five million warm breakfasts to communities across the UK who need itPick up your promotional pack of Quaker Oats and each purchase means another hot breakfast donated.----------------- Listen to all of our podcasts here ------------------About our guest: Nigel Williams is the breakfast host at Jazz FM and a prolific voiceover artist. In this episode, we'll try another in the line of new Frosted Flakes Cereals…today, Cinnamon French Toast! Then onto yet another international box of Shreddies, and more nasty Keto cereal, this time, from Nature's Path.
Today, we'll get to the new Lightyear Cereal from Kellogg's. It's ok, but not as good as it could have been. Then on to some Chocolate Boom Booms from General Mills, all about some 90s character we've never heard of…then across the pond for some listener supplied Shreddies. But wait! There's a bonus box from Lovebird! Jersey gem? We think not.
Sold in Canada, UK, and Australia this breakfast cereal was a boring and dying brand until…. Find out how a simple twist made all the difference to their advertising and promotion Dave Young: Welcome to The Empire Builders podcast, teaching business owners the not-so-secret techniques that took famous businesses from mom and pop to major brands. Stephen Semple is a marketing consultant, story collector, and storyteller. I'm Stephen's sidekick and business partner, Dave Young. Before we get into today's episode, a word from our sponsor, which is, well, it's us, but we're highlighting ads we've written and produced for our clients. So here's one of those. [BWS Home Services Ad] Dave Young: Welcome to The Empire Builders podcast. Dave Young here, along with Stephen Semple, and as usual, Stephen just gives me a loose idea of a topic, and then I have to... It's almost like a quiz show, Stephen, and today it's just the number 58. It's the number 58. What could that possibly mean? We've already done 57, that's fine. Stephen Semple: There you go. There we go. It's quite a bit of a roll here. We now can prove to people we can count. We went from 57 to 58. Yeah, 58 is an important number for you and I, because it now means we've been releasing this podcast on a weekly basis for a year. But then people go, "But wait a minute, Steve, there's 52 weeks in a year." Well, we started with six episodes, because one of the things in podcasting they talk about doing is, you should start with a bunch in the can because when people come to your episode, often what they want to do is, they discover it, they like it, they want to be able to binge. 58 is a year. So look, we're going to have to have a little celebration and fireworks and it's a big deal. And that's the other important question. You up for another year, Dave? Dave Young: Sure, I love doing this. We've got some of our partners and friends that are helping in the background with this, and we have a 92% listen through rate. Stephen Semple: Yeah, that was Matthew shared that. Dave Young: Matthew, okay. Stephen Semple: Yeah, because he handles a lot of the social media postings around this. Dave Young: That's a pretty good stat for a podcast. A lot of podcasts are like, "Eh, people just bail once they feel like they've got the meat of her." Stephen Semple: One of the stats on podcasts is... I can't remember whether it's 25 or 30% of listeners drop off in the first five or 10 minutes. Dave Young: It's always fun to record. The stories are always interesting. We both love how people build a business and the interesting things that they end up doing that make all the difference for them. Stephen Semple: Yeah, and we have a fun one today. It's a little different story, but we have another fun one that we're going to go over today. Dave Young: Okay, are we going straight into that or is this just a... Stephen Semple: Let's go straight into that. Let's give people what they're here for. Dave Young: Okay, all right. So I don't even know what we're going to be doing other than 58. Stephen Semple: Other than 58, well, what we're doing is... Now this is a product not available in the U.S. It's available in Canada, Australia, and UK. It's a cereal that's made by Post called Shreddies. So Dave, just for your benefit, I'm going to hold up the... Dave Young: Oh, we don't have that in the U.S. of A. in Texas. Stephen Semple: So the important thing to note on Shreddies, is it's a small square cereal made of shredded wheat. Dave Young: Is it the same as Shredded Wheat? Stephen Semple: It's the same but very different because it's really thin and tiny and crunchy. Dave Young: Okay. Stephen Semple: Really thin wafer. It was first introduced in 1939 by Nabisco, and it started in Canada. And one of the reasons why I wanted to talk about this one,
Wayne tries to get over his reservations about the song and Trevor experiences misery over a box of Shreddies. Janick keeps things upbeat with a chat about his favourite musicals.Support the show

In this episode we talk about ripped off designers Lisa Grossman (The Tsarina of Tsocks) and Emma Bermudez through internet fast fashion listings like these, as well as the ripped off designers Bailey Prado (instagram), Mela Gonzales, and Elexiay; all of whom face enormous hurdles to do anything about it according to NPR. We also cover the Fiberista Club scandal (Ravelry thread), and a happy ending with Dye Hard Yarns. Plus some surprising examples of embezzling in the industry, including a LYS (Knit With Yarn Shop) that tried to fight the good fight (court documents). Phil and Jake rank the posthumously-released Bruce Lee film Game of Death, food poisoning and triangle pizza on the List of Every Damn Thing. If you have something to add to the list, email it to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook).SHOW NOTES: Throughout the episode, Jake mistakenly refers to the movie production company Golden Harvest as “Golden Era” which is actually the name of a vegan Chinese restaurant in San Francisco which has been around since before veganism went mainstream. As Phil mentions, the recent Star Wars movie The Rise of Skywalker was produced after Carrie Fisher died. They spliced together various outtakes from the previous movies to make it look like she was in the movie. It didn't really work, how could it? Not much else in the movie did either although one exception was the chimpanzee with a welding torch. We mention Rudolph Valentino. Here's some details about his death & funeral. Jake talks about the documentary Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey. Skip to timestamp 58:30 to watch the original Game of Death footage in full. Colleen Camp has had a full Hollywood career including roles in Clue, Apocalypse Now and a couple of Police Academy movies. She was also in Smokey & the Bandit 3, which like Game of Death involved extensive re-shooting for the final product. The original was meant to have Jackie Gleason in both the roles of Smokey and the Bandit, but after the promotional material elicited negative reactions, they re-shot the Bandit scenes with Jerry Reed. Phil started watching The Suicide Squad but it was too much gore for him. He's not prudish about that stuff but it's not fun for him anymore. The Seven Little Fortunes was a group of child performers who included Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. Chan has said they'd get whipped if they didn't act right. Shreddies are similar to Wheat Chex (Phil said Triscuits). Their Diamond Shreddies campaign is very clever and is very similar to Oops! all Berries but with more world-building. When Phil referred to “Oops! All Burnt Cheez-Its” of course he meant "extra-toasty Cheez-Its". They're the most requested flavor apparently. What we'd like is if they maintained some kind of fictional reason for why they were extra toasty like Oops! All Berries. Maybe something like "Dammit, we burned all the Cheez-Its!" Sector pizza is what most people (except Jake) probably are thinking of when they say triangle pizza. It's a circular pizza that's been cut through the center four times at different angles so that each slice is straight on two sides and curved along the edge. Circle pizza is a pizza that's just a circle with no cuts made into it or I guess if you took a pizza-cutter and cut circles out of a another shape of pizza. The above two notes were written by a malevolent artificial intelligence, and as such are not part of Every Damn Thing canon. The current entry was written by a benevolent artificial intelligence so it's cool. Pizza in a Cup is from the best scene in The Jerk. It's pizza in a cup that Bernadette Peters and Steve Martin eat. It's sold at the carnival. At one time there were two competing Pizza in a Cup businesses at the carnival, until one drove the other out of business. Pat Kiernan is a former co-worker of Carrie's from CFRN-TV and friend of the Inner Circle. He has been a television host at Spectrum Television's NY1 since 1997. A staple of New York City, Pat has spent decades briefing New York residents on the weather, news, traffic, and so much more. A familiar face to millions of Americans, Pat has been asked to play himself on TV and movies more than two dozen times. A Canadian-American, Pat moved to New York to join Time Warner's efforts to develop news online. His deadpan humour, his famous "In the Papers" segment, his illustrious career, and his consistent quality work makes Pat Kiernan both a Canadian and American icon. In this episode, Pat talks about making the move from Edmonton to New York City back in 1997 and how it all came together. He is honest about the state of journalism, TV news reporting, and how the "In the Papers" segment all came together. He also discloses his affinity for Shreddies and how he acquires the cereal for his 2:30am breakfast. (Yes, he wakes up at 2am). Pat also recalls 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy, but it's the Pandemic of 2020 that is the biggest news story he has ever covered. And then there are the game shows: Pat has hosted a few over the years, and says that his ability to anchor the news has made him a perfect fit for game shows, but not so much role playing on the Sopranos. (Yes... there's a Sopranos story in this episode). Follow Pat on Facebook Twitter Instagram Finally, Carrie has a Facebook group you can join. Check it out here. The boys on the Oilersnation podcast are back this week with the 16th version of the pod. In this week's episode, Chris unveils the absolute worst way to eat a bowl of Shreddies in the morning and tries to defend his horrible life choice. After recovering from the disaster that is Chris' cereal routine, the boys dove into a recap of the overtime loss in Winnipeg from Thursday night. Considering the way the game ended, we discuss the goalies and the maddening trend of people trying to trade away Talbot when the reality is that the team could run with a pair of competent goaltenders. Speaking of trades, Terry Jones tweeted that the Oilers should get rid of Hunter the Mascot so we jumped in to defend his honour. https://twitter.com/byterryjones/status/1072230606946238465 To finish off the episode, Baggedmilk wants everyone to leave Nuge alone and stop trying to trade him, Chris would like you to know why there are so many Canadians in Australia (you may want to skip this part), Andrew Ference's review of the Edmonton Oilers in his time here, and we bid a sweet and sorrowful adieu to Evan the Intern.

Around here we don't have much need for these music "reality" type programs. They're basically glorified game shows that cater to Joe and Jane Average. The music sucks too! BANGER TV, headed by noted music documentarian Sam Dunn, set out to produce a competition series catered to the Metal connoisseur and the more musically inclined. The Shredders Of Metal was born. A six episode YouTube miniseries featuring six Canadian guitarists doing just as the monicker implies - shredding!! Spoiler alert: the winner was this week's Creature Feature Frankie Carracci. No stranger to this show, we sat with Frankie C. to get the ins and outs of the show. Plus performing for judge Alex Skolnick and his previous victory of his band VESPERIA's winning the Wacken Metal Battle. In our News, Views and Tunes, we crank Mr. C.'s full time gig, the new MAD MAX, YASHIRA, and some classic TESTAMENT! Horns!! Darryl Cognito hides from the robots in the basement of the internet, where he produces the podcast Atomic Suburbia (As Darryl says, "Not just Calgary's best podcast, but also the most consistent!") I hope he doesn't mind me nicking his theme music, but as soon as I saw the bit where the nanas defeat the robots, I just knew I had to use it.
