Send us a textIn this episode, our host Kaleem Clarkson, joined by guest co-host Laurel Farrer, dives into the compelling journey of entrepreneur Bo Abrams, co-founder of Kommu, a revolutionary home-sharing platform. Bo's evolution—from a spirited youth navigating diverse environments to an innovative leader tackling inefficiencies in the home-sharing industry—is both impressive and full of insightful turns.Bo's unique upbringing as part of a nationally ranked basketball team alongside hip-hop legend Master P exposed him to diverse experiences from a young age. These experiences helped build his confidence, adaptability, and knack for navigating challenges—a foundation that has served him well in his entrepreneurial pursuits. This drive undoubtedly motivated him to earn an MBA from UCLA's Anderson School of Business, all while continuing to pursue his musical endeavors!Bo's professional journey began in finance, where he took an entry-level position at a hedge fund, likening the experience to starting in the mailroom. Although the job involved humbling tasks like fetching coffee, it introduced him to ambitious colleagues who inspired his career aspirations. Realizing that the hedge fund path wasn't his true calling, Bo pivoted to operations roles in startups, including a stint at Steelhouse (now Mountain). The inspiration for Kommu struck during a trip to Whitefish, Montana, when Bo encountered the inefficiencies and high costs of home-sharing platforms like Airbnb. He wondered why homeowners couldn't monetize their properties as easily as car owners using platforms like Turo. This lightbulb moment led to the creation of Kommu—a social marketplace designed to offer young people trusted, affordable home-sharing options while fostering a sense of community. Bo envisioned Kommu as a disruptor in the space, providing a more equitable and user-friendly alternative to traditional rental platforms.Bo's partnership with co-founder Gus marked another milestone in Kommu's journey. The two met at UCLA, and their shared vision for transforming the home-sharing market solidified their collaboration. However, the road to success wasn't without sacrifices. Bo candidly shared how his laser focus on career and academic goals led to personal challenges, including the end of a significant relationship. Despite these setbacks, he found strength in his achievements and the unwavering support of family and friends.Take a moment to delve deeper into Kommu's ethos and mission with Laurel and Kaleem's sharp and delightful guidance! Bo's experiences and journey are a testament to the transformative power of resilience, adaptability, and innovation. From a trumpet-playing teenager in Beverly Hills to the co-founder of a disruptive startup, his story underscores the importance of perseverance in overcoming obstacles.Learn more about navigating the startup world, cultivating a growth mindset, and balancing ambition with personal sacrifices! Bo's story—filled with relatable anecdotes and actionable takeaways—serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs and remote professionals alike.Learn more about Bo:Bo's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bo-abrams/Kommu's Webpage: https://www.gokommu.com/ More about us: Remotely One's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/remotelyone Remotely One's Webpage: https://www.remotelyone.com/

This weeks episode we are joined by the founders of Steelhouse Festival and good friends of the Crows Mr Mikey Evans and Max Rhead. These guys have worked so hard to make it happen this year and its great news for everyone they were given the green light off the welsh government. Even the most simple tasks proved to be difficult as they explain during the show. It's been 11 years since the Welsh hills first came alive with the sound of Classic Rock. And like the towering, solid piece of stone it's perched on, the Steelhouse Festival stands resolute – a seemingly immovable object on the festival landscape. Steelhouse looks set to be the biggest and best yet with rock soldiers from far and wide making the uphill ascent for a bill that mixes the classic and the contemporary and is as breathtaking as the location itself.Officially the UK's highest music festival, this unique event will once again be held in the spectacular surroundings of Hafod-y-Dafal Farm situated on the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons. Aiming to be the UK's best value rock festival where families and friends can rock out at a price that won't clear out the holiday kitty, the event has built up a loyal following and a real heritage over many successful years. Classic rock cornerstones such as THIN LIZZY, THUNDER, THE DARKNESS, UFO, EUROPE, BLACKSTAR RIDERS, THOSE DAMN CROWS,SAXON, MICHAEL SCHENKER, MYLES KENNEDY, SEBASTIAN BACH, DEE SNIDER, SKINDRED, RIVAL SONS and more have all etched their names into Steelhouse history. This has been edited from an episode from our weekly show that streams LIVE @ 9pm Every Tuesday on Facebook LIVE, TWITCH and YOUTUBE.https://www.thosedamncrows.com/crowcastvideo See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Sarah Apgar burst into the Shark Tank and rode out on a tidal wave, earning nearly a million dollars in revenue during the month following her successful pitch. I was awed watching her gracefully throw her signature Steelhouse into the air while seamlessly delivering a two-minute opening pitch, in a fabulous red jumper to boot. Robert Herjavec captured my sentiments exactly, calling her “one of the most impressive human beings we've ever seen.” Although it may seem like a lucky break, in this conversation Sarah shares how her years of organic product development, pivoting during the pandemic, and 30 days of diligent practice helped ensure she captured this “lightening in a bottle,” setting her up to become the billion-dollar brand that matches her biggest vision. More About Sarah: Sarah Apgar is the Founder of FitFighter, a way of life that makes you Mission Ready. She originally designed her signature strength training tool, the Steelhose, featured in 2020 on ABC's Shark Tank, to train firefighters better for the rigors of the job. Now FitFighter is available to all of us, to keep us ready for our everyday mission. In addition to founder and CEO of FitFighter, she is an Iraq military veteran, a Princeton and Dartmouth grad, volunteer firefighter, and mom of two. ❤️ Enjoying the show? Pack up your camping gear and prepare to head off the beaten track as we pay a visit to where rock music is at it's wildest.... The Steelhouse Festival!Situated on the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, Hafod-y-Dafal Farm sits atop a beautiful Welsh mountain and has been the official home of the UK's highest music festival since 2011.As you stand on top of the mountain, soaking up the sunshine and being entertained by some of the greatest bands on the planet, you'd be forgiven for feeling a touch of the Maria Von Trapp's and getting the urge to break into a rendition of ‘The hills are alive'… These Welsh Valleys truly are alive, with the sound of classic rock.Steelhouse Festival is the product of the Steelhouse local club nights that were organised by Mikey Evans and Max Rhead. As grassroots venues began to struggle and close down across southern Wales, the pair teamed up in an attempt to save the local rock music scene. Many years later, after much hard graft and labour, the volunteer run festival is now one of the UK's most affordable rock festivals with a solid reputation for its welcoming atmosphere, stunning location and family friendly music scene. The mountain has been host to some of the greatest rock bands in history, from Thin Lizzy and Saxon to The Darkness, Thunder and Rival Sons. They also take pride in being a platform for upcoming talent and new music, with Those Damn Crows and Kris Barrass on the bill for next years festival already.Look out for some fantastic late night Planet Rock Radio DJ sets thrown into the mix too.July 2020 was set to be Steelhouse Festival's 10th anniversary but as the Covid-19 pandemic swept the nation and Wales extended their lockdown into July, it became painfully clear the festival couldn't go ahead this year. Now, with new dates scheduled for 23rd-25th July 2021, a strong line up of acts already announced and their second headliner due to be named any day now, I spoke to Max to find out how they're planning to make next year's festival bigger and better and hear some of his personal highlights of bands that have played on the mountain over the years.Place your bets on who will be headlining Steelhouse 2021 as he drops the BIGGEST hint possible!https://www.steelhousefestival.com/

In this episode, we discuss: ·      The lack of education we receive around exploring our own sexuality and sexual preferences. ·      How our barometer for a healthy, fulfilling sex life is typically pornography, what we see in the movies, or what we read in romance novels, and we aren't really equipped to talk to our partner and figure out what is best for our relationship. ·      Two different ways in which we experience desire and why it's important to know yours. ·      How, for responsive desire types, what gets you in the mood is very individualized and why you should experiment to learn what works best for you. ·      How within each relationship there is a higher desire partner and a lower desire partner; and how this desire frequency differential can cause issues and insecurities. ·      How mindfulness when it comes to sex is just as important as it is with every other aspect of our lives. ·      The impractical expectations put on men when it comes to sex despite a lack of information or teaching. ·      And how maybe we are all only scratching the surface of the amount of pleasure we are capable of feeling. Gucci. BMW. The radio biz. Acting. Stunt-driving. All of those things point to talent acquisition, right? To the naked eye, this tapas of jobs and roles would seem out of place, but not at all for Kathleen Prior-Louis, VP and head of talent for Los Angeles-based SteelHouse. This first act set the stage for act two: her time digging into getting the most out of a wide range of talent. This eclectic blend of experiences makes an awful lot of sense when you see what Prior-Louis has learned along the way — whether that was in front of the camera or behind the scenes. What has come out of this mishmash is a true sense of empathy and understanding and knowing what is beyond the page when it comes to building a talented team. Endlessly optimistic, Prior-Louis is a big fan of intuition, gut and instinct. That triumvirate affords an open, flexible mind and heart — and a willingness to see the potential in, not only herself, but others that she works with and recruits. Reading between the lines, she is well-equipped, and armed with her wide-ranging experiences, to not place people, especially talented people, into ineffective or unproductive boxes. Prior-Louis’s fearlessness and good nature is infectious and the risks that she has, and continues to take, are testament to her many and unique accomplishments — some yet to be realized — in an interesting and fascinating career.
