You're the parent, or stepparent, who wants less conflict and more connection. But a child's resistance, sarcasm, isolation, or hurtful words, such as: “you're not my dad,” can derail plans and result in hurtful interactions. We've been there. In part 2 of this mini-series, you'll discover how to respond well in tough moments of pushback by using John Gottman's 5 steps of Emotion Coaching. You'll hear us role-play around real-life pushback when a child is competing for a parent's love, making accusations and threats, and behaving oppositionally toward a stepparent. We'll offer a better way to manage those moments with words that help kids feel seen, heard, and understood.  We'll also show you the best approach for addressing poor behavior and setting boundaries. The plan is simple: notice the emotion, treat it as an opportunity, listen and validate, help label feelings, then set limits while exploring solutions. Practice this, and you'll be surprised at how you can lower the tension, build relational safety, and strengthen your connection with a struggling child. When pushback hits, it is possible to move away from reacting in ways that don't help and instead, create an atmosphere of mutual trust, respect,  and real connection in your home. You'll Discover:The 5 Emotion Coaching steps from John Gottman (with wording you can steal) and why each step matters. How to decode what's going on underneath pushback and respond in a way that helps your child move through pain, loss, anger, sadness, and confusion. When and how to set behavioral boundaries so that kids are more open to receiving and responding well. A simple script for stepparents to defuse “You're not my dad/mom” moments while building mutual respect and understanding. When and how to engage in problem-solving with your child and foster real buy-in, confidence, and trust.Resources from this Episode:Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child by Dr. John GottmanEpisode 222. We know that pushback moments can sting. Eye rolls, refusals, accusations, or shutting down are all things kids in blended families can tend to do. It's easy for parents and stepparents to appease, minimize, deflect, control, try to 'fix-it' or simply avoid pushback (we've done it too). In this two-part series, we act as your guides and name the real struggle beneath kids' hurtful behavior: loss, grief, and fear that come with blending. Then we introduce a clear plan: Emotion Coaching. You'll hear real-life scenarios, why common reactions backfire, and what to do instead to help your child feel seen and supported. The win? A calmer home,  stronger bonds, and practical steps forward. The risk of doing nothing? Escalating conflict, shutdown, resentment, and power struggles. If you're ready to respond to your child's pushback with calm, clarity, and care, this conversation is for you. You'll Discover:The four common Pushback Predicaments: competing for love, accusations/threats, oppositional attitude, and loss & grief. And what's really going on underneath. Why appeasing, minimizing, deflecting, defending, controlling, or avoiding often makes things worse, and what kids hear when we react in those ways. How Emotion Coaching helps kids identify and name big feelings, regulate their emotions, and become receptive to changing their behavior.  Plus, the blended-family benefits (safety, trust, and respect). A simple reflection challenge to build awareness around your typical reaction patterns and your child's reactions to your reactions, so that you can choose a better way to respond next time. Continued Learning on this Topic:Episode 154.  On a recent episode of The Guardian's Audio Long Reads*, aired on September 30, 2025, reporter Amelia Gentleman offers a vivid firsthand account of the porn industry's dynamic transformation, drawing from her attendance at two pivotal European conferences. At the Xbiz Adult Industry Conference in Amsterdam—Europe's largest gathering for adult content creators, which attracted around a thousand participants—Gentleman captures an atmosphere brimming with optimism and entrepreneurial energy, a stark contrast to the more subdued vibe she observed at the same event a decade prior. She attributes much of this uplift to platforms like OnlyFans, which have democratized content creation by granting performers unprecedented autonomy and direct control over their work and earnings, allowing them to sidestep traditional studio gatekeepers and foster intimate fan connections.Yet, this empowerment comes with shadows: Gentleman and host Helen Pidd dissect how the platform's saturated market pressures creators to escalate into more extreme content to capture attention and sustain income, blurring lines between choice and coercion in a hyper-competitive digital arena. The episode weaves in broader trends, including the rise of "stepdads"—a nod to taboo genres that have surged in popularity amid these demands—and the professionalization of the sector, where creators now approach their craft with business-savvy strategies once reserved for mainstream entrepreneurs.Shifting gears to Prague, Gentleman explores the nascent world of "AI girlfriends" at a dedicated conference, where virtual companions powered by artificial intelligence are pitched as scalable, personalized alternatives to human interaction. Creators express a mix of excitement for the innovation's potential to expand reach and revenue, alongside unease about its dehumanizing effects, such as displacing traditional performers or eroding the authenticity that draws audiences to platforms like OnlyFans. The discussion probes the societal ripples: how these shifts normalize boundary-pushing in digital intimacy, potentially reshaping relationships and consent in an increasingly algorithm-driven world.Overall, the podcast strikes a nuanced tone—celebrating the industry's newfound vibrancy and creator independence while unflinchingly addressing ethical quandaries, from content escalation to AI's disruptive force—painting a portrait of a sector hurtling toward an uncertain, tech-infused future.   Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/depraved-and-debaucherous--5267208/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP's other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts

Louisville, Kentucky based, country-blues artist Andy Branton cut his teeth playing guitar in country and rock & roll bands around the West Alabama bar scene. After years of collecting stories and songs while driving up and down Alabama's highways and dirt roads, he released his debut EP 47 Minutes Away.Andy assembled a crack team of Birmingham, Alabama's finest musicians - including Adrian Marmolejo (Early James & the Latest, Zachary Williams & the Dirty Camaros, The StepDads); Les Nuby, formerly of Verbena (Capital Records); Ford Boswell (Early James & the Latest, Zachary Williams & the Dirty Camaros, Will Stewart); and Daniel Raine (Little Raine Band, The StepDads) - to commit his songs to tape. The band worked its magic, cranking out the tunes in just one 8-hour session. One of the highlights from the record, the ballad Time to Go hauntingly captures the utter doneness you can feel when finally leaving a place. It predicts Andy's eventual move to Louisville, Kentucky as he sings about driving on “northbound 65” with “a new direction now.” You can find Andy making his way around the country - ever writing, ever singing, ever playing, and ever moving.

Zach sits down with his mother Joe and his stepfather Otis to explore their journey from painful pasts to a peaceful present. Joe and Otis reflect on their “practice marriages,” the controlling dynamics they each endured, and the moment they realized they wanted something different. They share how a foundation of friendship, autonomy, and mutual respect became the bedrock of their 25-year relationship. From non-dating to dancing, from beach trips with girlfriends to golf trips alone, Joe and Otis have built a partnership that celebrates individuality and shared joy. You'll hear about Otis's journey of temper management, Joe's reclaiming of personal agency, and the subtle, intentional kindness that keeps their love strong, despite physical pain, aging bodies, and the trials of real life. Key Takeaways There's life after divorce—and it might be the better lifeBoth Joe and Otis came from long, controlling marriages. Their second partnership, formed later in life, is more respectful, equal, and full of joy. Friendship is the foundationTheir relationship began as school colleagues and friends, then grew over time into something deeper, supported by laughter, shared values, and trust. Kindness is the cornerstoneOtis says the best description of their marriage is that they've “learned to be very kind to one another.” The five-minute anger rule worksOtis, who struggled with rage in his youth, now uses a strategy where he's allowed to be mad for five minutes, then lets it go. Joe even sets a timer. Agency mattersJoe talks about finally being able to “be herself” in this marriage, without fear, control, or pressure. Otis's calm, non-controlling nature allows her space to thrive. Caregiving is mutual and meaningfulAs they age, they care for each other with intention and grace. Joe says she always knew Otis would take care of her, and she's glad to do the same. Guest Info JoeZach's mom. OtisZach's stepdad and former high school gym teacher. Learn more about your ad choices. In a time of summer when news is light the guys still manage to put together a decent episode were they discuss Soderbloms spot with the team, minor signings, Foligno our captain, Blackhawk game grades, and Mount Rushmore of Stanley Cup Era Role Players. (0:00) Intro(3:27) Arvid Soderblom gets his arbitration hearing scheduled and the guys discuss what the ruling could be and if there is a chance they get a deal done before hand and avoid that nastiness. (5:06) The guys discuss Louis Crevier and goaltender Stanislav Berezhnoy to two year deals. The latter leads to a discussion of the Hawks goaltending depth and that there could be some hard calls to be made down the line which is always a good thing. (12:12) Nick Foligno played host to some of the younger Hawks in Sudbury and while the photos make him seem like a proud father, the guys talk about how important Foligno is to this team and developing the new culture in the Blackhawks locker room.(18:07) Connor Bedard and Spencer Knight get named pretty high on a few NHL list. Tanner and Jarom argue if Spencer Knight was ripped off or if he was placed exactly where he belongs among goalies under 25 years old.(23:22) The Hawks released the latest episode of Every Shift and because it revolved around the draft and development camp it only makes sense the guys take the time to complain about the draft process.(27:21) The NHL Schedule is here so Jarom picked out a few Hawks games that seemed important and then the guys graded them on how must watch TV those games are. Tanner reads the list of NHL.com must see games and lets say there was a lot of disagreements from the guys on those. (46:55) The guys wrap up the show picking their Mount Rushmore for Stanley Cup Era Role playersHosts:Jarom @ZachJaromTanner @BroliethegoalieX: @WCBPodcastInstagram: @WCBPodcastFacebook: WCBPodcast..#nhl #hockey #blackhawks #icehockey #chicagoblackhawks #podcast
