If a breed association “takes its eye off the ball” of making commercial cattlemen more profitable, it's set to fail, says Donnie Schiefelbein, Kimball, Minn., Angus breeder. He joined breeder Lee Leachman for this episode that covers the changes in the Angus business over the decades, the data that has made a difference, and ways that coordination can produce solutions. Today on the show I have Jeff Schiefelbein. Jeff is a successful serial entrepreneur who has been running many different businesses and ventures for twenty years. Today we are going to dive into his story of how an unexpected dark moment became one of the most important in his life. This was when he was pulled over for a DUI. We are going to talk about that turning point in his life and we are going to talk about a lot of the ways that many entrepreneurs and visionaries are drunk driving in their businesses right now, not necessarily literally drunk driving but are going through the same process that is equally as dangerous at the helm of their businesses. There is a ton of great information that Jeff is going to share whether you are just starting out as an entrepreneur or have been at this for many years. In This Episode: People have become victims of their surroundings. People are all driven by the same fundamentals of human nature and when they feel respected, seen, and heard you get a lot of really great things done together. Recognize the blessing of life. Every single part of my life is a blessing and yours and you can completely change and see the world in a brighter light, more abundance, and less fear because you get to, you don't have to. And so much more!!! Connect with Jeff Schiefelbein: Jeff's Website Jeff on LinkedIn

In this episode, Andrew interviews Jeff Schiefelbein, co-founder and culture catalyst for Undivided Life. Jeff describes how he encourages organizations to build transformative, loving cultures of excellence.
In the lesson we heard from 1 Thessalonians, St. Paul says, we do not want you to be uninformed brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as those who have no hope. When Paul is talking about those who are asleep, he means those who have died. We know that Lorraine is not merely asleep, she has died. Nor is she is some sort of soul sleep, her soul is with Christ now. By asleep, Paul is using the word as a substitute for “died” for a very specific reason – sleeping people wake up. That is the hope for those who grieve – those who have died, those who sleep in Jesus will one day awaken.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! That's how St. Peter begins his epistle reading for us today. Here we remember Marlene and what Christ has done for her, and for that we bless God for what he has done. I will tell you, I did not know Marlene well, though we have met. Yet what is important is that all who trust in Christ will see Marlene again in the resurrection of the living and the dead. That is the “living hope” that St. Peter mentions. Marlene and all who are in Christ share a living hope that, just as Jesus Christ has risen from the dead, so will we.
“I bet half of our anxiety is the energy of trying to remember which hat to put on in my relationship with [others]…And people end up becoming a less real version of themselves. …Why can't we be fully present to this process, and not have to put anything on the side - not try to take away the personal parts of who we are?” Showing up fully human What if I told you it's possible to bring your full self to the workplace? Jeff Shiefelbein thinks it's not possible, but necessary for forming humans and building great cultures. Jeff and I discuss how draining it is to change our personalities depending on where we are and who we're with. The expectations to leave your heart and your personality at the door when you come to work are changing. Jeff also explains the magnetism of authenticity and how facing difficult topics can help form connections and trust. He speaks with experience: The company he co-founded has won multiple Best Places to Work awards, as well as five consecutive appearances on the Inc 5,000 fastest growing companies in America. His tenets behind the “Undivided Life” have contributed to this success. You'll also hear how a run-in with the law in college inspired him to launch a nationwide nonprofit that has likely saved hundreds of lives. At its core, successful businesses are comprised of engaged people working in concert. Authenticity opens doors “As you step into these bold moments of living, the way we're actually designed to be, show up…what comes after [is] the freedom, mentorship, accountability, cool opportunities that you could have never predicted in your life. It's because people feel like they know you, they might start to connect to you because you're speaking and leaving a message that they have buried in their heart.” Create connections at a micro-level for macro-change “You start to develop this trusting relationship…And if you can keep building, your circle gets bigger and bigger, the ripples get further and further apart. You're this pocket of people that you have a trusting and loving relationship with, and you're connecting…even if our big giant company or whatever organization has cultures within it that are toxic, let's just make the part that's right around us a place we like to come to. And that begets confidence; it begets this sense of ‘this is possible.'” Caring about people leads to organization success “You don't run the business by metrics, you run your run it by getting highly engaged, fully formed adults, loving, trusting, and empowering them, and getting out of their way…therefore, I think the whole health of that person becomes an input to the company's long-term health and success.” “An undivided life also respects the fact that we weren't made to be 24/7 working machines that are 24/7 available. There's a dignity and respect to that person - that if I recognize the personal side of who they are, I also respect their personal time.” Resources mentioned in this episode: Undivided Life: https://www.undivided.life Connect with Jeff Schiefelbein on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/schiefelbein Energy By 5: https://www.energyby5.com Rise Leaders interview with Nathan Havey - Episode 60: https://rise-leaders.com/podcast/ Link between Heart Attacks and Monday Mornings study: https://www.menshealth.com/health/a19524979/heart-attack-timing/ To subscribe to the Rise Leaders newsletter for more resources: https://mailchi.mp/426e78bc9538/subscribe To discuss executive coaching, leadership development program design, and workshop facilitation, please visit: https://rise-leaders.com/contact-info/

Jeff is the Chief Culture Officer at 5. That's it, the numerical symbol 5. It's proprietary. The kind of brain that would come up with “5” for a company that buys and sells energy contracts makes for a very fun interview. Jeff is an idea power plant, and he knows the secret to building a great company is by starting with the right people who have the right mindset. So culture, above all. This page from the brand manual is chock-full of insights, inspiration, energy, and some levity. We're glad you're here.
We catch up with Don Schiefelbein, President-Elect of the NCBA, at the Cattle Industry Convention in Nashville, TN. Talking about a wide range of topics in our discussion.
On this episode I was joined by Stefan Schiefelbein, the man behind the scenes of Pacific Calls. We discussed everything from his personal life to working within Pacific Calls. One of my favorite topics of this episode was youth hunting and the understanding that it should be a great effort from everyone on board to get young people into hunting. We touch base with what he wants to do with his life, with or without the great guys from Pacific Calls. Stefan is one of those class A gentlemen that has been through a lot in his life. It proves it self the way he openly speaks. We laugh, joke around, and talk smack with each other. In the flip of a switch, we are able to talk about some more serious topics. There's more to life than just talking about success, and I believe we really brought light to that saying. Hope you all enjoy this wonderful episode, it was fun for me and Stefan. Take care, and keep striving for success my friends!

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.11.22.393165v1?rss=1 Authors: Yan, H., Song, Q., Lee, J., Schiefelbein, J., Li, S. Abstract: An essential step of single-cell RNA sequencing analysis is to classify specific cell types with marker genes in order to dissect the biological functions of each individual cell. In this study, we integrated five published scRNA-seq datasets from the Arabidopsis root containing over 25,000 cells and 17 cell clusters. We have compared the performance of seven machine learning methods in classifying these cell types, and determined that the random forest and support vector machine methods performed best. Using feature selection with these two methods and a correlation method, we have identified 600 new marker genes for 10 root cell types, and more than 70% of these machine learning-derived marker genes were not identified before. We found that these new markers not only can assign cell types consistently as the previously known cell markers, but also performed better than existing markers in several evaluation metrics including accuracy and sensitivity. Markers derived by the random forest method, in particular, were expressed in 89-98% of cells in endodermis, trichoblast, and cortex clusters, which is a 29-67% improvement over known markers. Finally, we have found 111 new orthologous marker genes for the trichoblast in five plant species, which expands the number of marker genes by 58-170% in non-Arabidopsis plants. Our results represent a new approach to identify cell-type marker genes from scRNA-seq data and pave the way for cross-species mapping of scRNA-seq data in plants. Pete Schiefelbein is a key part of CSFI and works to provide the kind of training to military and private sector companies that can be the difference between a major data breach and just another day at the office. In today’s episode of InSecurity, Matt Stephenson chats with Pete about a broad spectrum of topics including the evolution of the Marine Corps into a state of the art Cyber Defense unit as well its traditional role as an elite wartime fighting force. They dig into the notion of generational change and how it can effect a military organization. Further, Matt and Pete dig into the notion of information security compared to cybersecurity. Oh… and for good measure, they even talk a bit about the fact that Pete and his son are both Eagle Scouts and the role scouting is playing in developing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. It is safe to say that Pete knows a thing or two about operating a sophisticated network and protecting data from a variety of threats. It's a 501(c)3 charity founded by Ed Rigsbee dedicated to making a difference by employing "Philanthropy through Fun." Each week Ed will be assigning Craig with a mission. Maybe it's to introduce you to some of the Cigar PEG staff or some of our High Roller contributors. Maybe it's one of our many donors who support us year after year; maybe it's just for fun! But just like Cigar PEG itself, we hope you have fun and learn something new. Join the Facebook and the LinkedIn groups as well as subscribing to iTunes to make sure you don't miss an episode.
