I had a podcast myself for a while where we spoke with famous journalists about their mental health and the stories that had impacted them. In any case, if you are open to more guests speaking about their stories and mental health, I'd love to be on your podcast at some stage. It's my dream to inspire others to speak openly and also be a role model for women who may reach middle age and think they have lost sense of their own identity, and a role model to my kids too."You Can Follow us  onYouTube - AMP GBInstagram @amp_1967Facebook : AMPGBfind all our episodes on our websiteWebsite is : https://agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com/email: agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comIf you are an agegroup athlete and would like to come on the pod, get in touch.

Send us a textWelcome along to another episode of AMP, on this episode we speak to Grant Paling, a triathlete of 11 years but relatively new to agegroup. Grant says"When I was a kid I had big dreams, like most kids do.Astronaut, actor, race car driver - the kind of dreams only an uninhibited child can conjure up, free to think of what might be.One of those dreams was to represent my country. Football, maybe athletics? I was inspired through watching my sporting heroes on tv. And thanks to my dad's love of sport, we watched a lot of it!Those days are now long gone, and I thought those dreams were left behind. When I started triathlon in 2013 I never dreamed of reaching any kind of heights, I just knew I loved it from day one.I played football for 26 years (much of which I spent chasing my first touch) and whilst I achieved some success, triathlon was different. Still part of a team, the amazing Tunbridge Wells Triathlon Club, my other “family”, but now ultimately competing on my own - no team around to do it for me if I didn't perform. But I persevered, inspired by those around me doing incredible things and in 2024, at 41 years old, I travelled to Coimbra in Portugal donning the Great Britain tri suit for the very first time and achieving one of those lifelong dreams by racing in the Middle Distance team for British Triathlon in the European Age Group Championships.I followed that up by competing again for GB in the Standard distance at the European Champs in Vichy in September and despite a bike crash, finished 17th overall.I'm known for my epic race reports within Tunbridge Wells Triathlon Club - I'd love to come on and share some of those experiences over the years and also to talk about how I reached new levels using an AI coaching app to prepare for stepping up to Age Group level, especially being time limited with 2 relatively young kids aged 5 and 7. Game changer!"we had a great chat about, how he juggles being a parent and triathlon and how he implements AI coaching in his training.please enjoy.you can find Grant on Instagram @GRANTPALINGYou Can Follow us  onYouTube - AMP GBInstagram @amp_1967Facebook : AMPGBfind all our episodes on our websiteWebsite is : https://agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com/email: agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comIf you are an agegroup athlete and would like to come on the pod, get in touch.

Send us a textWelcome along to another episode of the Agegroup Multisport Podcast. On this episode, we speak to Andy Holliday, Gb age group triathlete and duathlete.Andy states "Previously had done marathons and other running events and before that had done a lot of time trials and road races and mtb events.I started multisport at the London Duathlon in Richmond in 2018, and got a reasonable result, like I finished mid-pack but it was enough to raise the idea of what was possible. My brother was at this time competing in Ironman events and mentioned the age-group with British Tri. A bit of investigation and it seemed like a possibility. Next event was Oulton Park a qualifier. While I was outside of qual time I was close enough to start to think it was possible. Next up was Stockton Duathlon and on a grim day I bagged a spot on the age-group team. Then COVID hit and my event was repeatedly postponed before finally getting to compete at Aviles. That was a mental journey almost not going 2 weeks before as I believed I wasn't good enough etc. classic imposter stuff. First experience of AG team was amazing, loved the event the race the build up wandering around the town seeing other athletes in GB kit. This year I had qualified for Vichy in Standard Triathlon, got there in the best shape I had been in, super confident of being able to deliver a great performance. Unfortunately my race lasted less than 3 minutes due to a cold shock panic attack in the water. Really interesting about how this impacted me and rather than throwing me off has provided greater motivation to compete.Qualified again last year for Middle Distance and Standard Duathlon for the upcoming Pontevedra, also aiming for the cross duathlon qualification. The big goal is the Zofingen Long Distance in Sept 2025. Also maybe a half and marathon PB as well. Outside of triathlon I am a performance and leadership coach and work a lot with talking about how the mind impacts performance either positively or negatively and how to harness this."Really interesting to chat about his mental issues and how he has worked them through.hope you enjoy his journey.you can follow Andy on Instagram @andyholladay1you can vote for us using this link https://www.sportspodcastgroup.com/shortlist-category/You Can Follow us  onYouTube - AMP GB Instagram @amp_1967X : agegroupmultisportpodcastFacebook : AMPGBfind all our episodes on our websiteWebsite is : https://agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com/email: agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comIf you are an agegroup athlete and would like to come on the pod, get in touch.

Conosco aqui, a educadora física, 3. Send us a textOn our latest episode features Paul HaslamPaul says "I was born raised in Chesterfield. My sporting background started as a child where I was very keen on football and later in my teens, cricket, tennis & hockey, amongst other sports. I struggled to get in the school football team until I was about 14 when I finally started to grow & bulk up a bit & found myself able to muscle my way about a bit more. After school, I continued with sport at college, mainly squash and then found myself encouraged into joining the Dept water polo team as they were looking for new additions. Now that was an eye opener. My first game I only played the 2 nd half and I was absolutely knackered by the end, so much so, I slipped and slid from top to bottom on the stairs to the changing rooms. I thought squash was tough till I got involved in water polo – the toughest sport I've ever done. After college I ended up working in the coal mining industry. My sporting life was mainly darts around that time. I later joined a Sunday League type football team and also found myself involved in the works cricket team.Between the age of 28 and 58 any remotely sporting connections I had were limited to recreational activities with the kids such as mountain bike rides on trails, not roads.Over the 30 years my weight had gradually risen from below 11 stone and 32” waist to almost 15 stone and a near 40” waist. Then out of the blue in August 2018, Karen announced to me that she was going to do something called “Couch to 5k”. What the hell is that, I thought. Well I soon found out as I was seconded to a support role, which basically meant I was doing it too. My initial response was to say to Karen that I'd probably run about 50 yards and collapse. By May 2019, Id lost about 4.5 stone in weight.9th June 2019 finally arrived & that was the start of my triathlon pursuit. Southport Triathlon was only my 2nd Standard Triathlon and my first-ever qualifier. And so, the GB Age Group experience was about to begin in 2022 eventually named as in a place called Olsztyn in Poland. Having submitted a sprintresult for European and World Triathlon events, I also qualified for Montreal World Sprint Tri  a as last gap spot for Munich Europeans Sprint Tri, which I had desperately wanted to do, for the trip to Munich, as city we came to fall in love with. For Olsztyn in May 2022 I managed to finish a totally unexpected 2nd place in the 60-64 Age Group.Since that very first event, I've gone on to do a total of 16 GB starts including mixed team relays, 4 events in 2022, 3 events in 2023 including another silver in the Europeans Standard Tri (converted to standard duathlon) and 9 events in 2024 including a silver in theEuropean Middle Distance Duahtlon in Alsdorf and 2 bronzes in the Europeans in Vichy. As mentioned in the show we have been nominated Finalist in the Sports Podcast Awards 2025 please vote using the link below.https://www.sportspodcastgroup.com/shortlist-category/

(Yes, I struggle to say no to things!!). I did well enough to qualify on roll down, but I wanted to be sure, so I drove to Strathclyde and qualified in 3rd place.Off to Mexico (2016) and managed a 9th place finish in the sprint. Shortly afterwards I moved to Australia. I'd got the bug and decided to fly back to the UK in 2018 to qualify for GB again. It was a double qualifier that year for Gold Coast and Lausanne.Meanwhile I was competing in Austalia and qualified for Ironman 70.3 worlds, but I decided not to go.Gold Coast sprint tri was in 2018 and after that I gave myself 10 weeks to go from sprint to full Ironman!  I did Busselton Ironman in 11:30 (ish!!!).2019 saw me do the Etape de Tour and then Lausanne sprint worlds a month later. Still for GB. I finished 2019 with anther 70.3 and another world qualification.2020 and covid hit. We continued to race in WA and I did SEVEN gravel race, another 70.3 (and another worlds place) and the road cycling event called Tour of Margaret River.2021 was my citizenship and with that my first chance to qualify for Aus. I trained hard for the qualifying race in December and the week before I came off my bike and fractured my clavicle.  Luckily in my warm up, I'd gone to the state championship for Duathlon and had won, so I redirected my plans to the Duathlon Worlds in Romania instead.2022 saw me shift to train running. I did my first 80km ultra in May and went to Romania in June (5th place) and first in the green and gold! I finished the year with UTMB Kosciusko 50km.2023 was the covid delayed 70.3 worlds in Finland for Aus. And another state duathlon championship.2024: I ran 2000km in the first 6 months to train for UTMB Verbier in July. It was cancelled the day before due to storms!!!Townsville Duathlon worlds 4 weeks later (4th)Now, I'm back to trail running and have UTMB Thailand in December and hopefully UTMB CCC in August next year! With my results in that being good enough I was lucky enough to be put forward to represent Ireland at the world championships in Malaga later this year."You can find Rob on instagram at rob_dwyerThanks for listening. You Can Follow us  on Instagram @amp_1967X : agegroupmultisportpodcastFacebook : AMPGBfind all our episodes on our websiteor our YouTube Channel AMP GBWebsite is : https://agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com/email: agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comIf you are an agegroup athlete and would like to come on the pod, get in touch.

Send us a Text Message.Welcome to the latest epsode of our pod. On this episode we chat to pone very determined lady.I first met Nic when we were over at the European Multisport Champs in Portugal, she had travelled over with former guest Robert Myler, who suggested Nic should come on and share her story. Nic says " Im a full-time working mum with 2 young children. Sport is my hobby and I love it. I have run from a small age, my first run I remember was a 1.5 mile road race when I was about 12 and then the school cross country races on the sand dunes in Irvine with the wind battering me. That didn't put me off and I did my first half marathon at 17 and the London Marathon at 21.  My main achievements to date are completing the triple crown in 2022 – the Highland Fling, West Highland Way ultra and Devil O' the Highlands races, completing Celtman solo extreme triathlon and representing GBR in the European Duathlon Championships. I run because I enjoy it. It's an escape from the real world and I get thinking space. I love the outdoors and this gives me a chance to see some amazing scenery. I always run on holiday (at the request of the family) as I find all the great places we can go adventuring to later. I'm also quite competitive and enjoy the races…the muddier the better! I'm a role model to my children and others showing that us girls / mums can do these things and inspire the next generation. My best and worst run moments: My children being at the end of my ultra races and running with me to cross the finish line, they are my inspiration and love seeing their faces as I near the end. Worst was when I had an undetected stress fracture in my foot which eventually broke, 3 operations over 3 years until it healed and was told at one point I'd never run again. In my spare time I coach, I was a tennis coach for 20 years until injury struck but I have now retrained and qualified as a personal trainer, running and triathlon coach with Glasgow Triathlon Club. I have been leading trail runs for many years."You can follow Nic on Instagram @epicrunningtrails_nicand her website is https://epictrailsrunning.co.ukYou Can Follow us  onInstagram @amp_1967X : agegroupmultisportpodcastFacebook : AMPGBfind all our episodes on our websiteor our YouTube Channel AMP GBWebsite is : https://agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com/email: agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comIf you are an agegroup athlete and would like to come on the pod, get in touch.

This passion has continued down the decades with swimming and running becoming my Favourites for many years, enabling me to qualify for the GB Age Group Teams in 2004 in both Aquathlon and Sprint/Standard Triathlons.  Here I am 20 years on still competing for GB at Aqua Bike (Middle Distance) and with a strong desire to requalify for GB Aquathlon as my “grumbling” knee has been behaving itself recently, thanks to consistent Strength and SMART training.  My events this year will be Qualifiers for the 70-74 Age Group - I can't wait!My sport has enabled and encouraged me to work my way up the coaching ladder, from swim coaching in the 1980's to BTF Level 3, which prompted me to set up a few businesses over the years - Ducklings to Dolphins Swim School in Reading, which is still running 35 years on, and Tri50, a Triathlon coaching business for the over 50's!!  My Triathlon coaching has inspired me to maintain my fitness levels, as I fully appreciate competing at my age is more about maintaining a healthy outlook on Life, and staying injury free.  I have been very fortunate in winning many International and European medals along the way, I think my tally is 12!!  A few more would be welcome, I will apply my coaching knowledge and experience to help this happen!!  Am keen to continue competing well into my my 70's as a Fit Old Bird ………… "Thanks for sharing JoIf you are interested in getting coached by Jo her website is www.Tri50.co.ukshe is also on instagram and Facebook at the same name.

Another great story shared by an inspiring everyday athlete.Mal Smith got in touch after speaking to a former guest, John Armstrong, recommended he got in touch to share his story. Mal states"Im a triathlete at  Cleethorpes Tri Club and along with my 18 year old son Callum, we've qualified this year to race the standard distance in Torremolinos. I'm also a PTS5 ParaTriathlete  and it was the knock on effect of training for the British Super Series (finishing second at the British ParaTri champs) that brought my times down last year to qualify at Sunderland. I got into triathlon after a lifetime of proving to myself that I could do whatever I set my mind too…and so after a number of years obstacle course racing and running multiple marathons, Ironman became the next target!  Triathlon then changed my life and continues to do so, as I realised just what is possible!I'd love to raise the profile of Para Triathlon but also highlight that just because you may have a physical impairment it doesn't stop you from taking part in our fantastic sport! I can't wait to represent GB in October as part of the age group team! You can follow Mal on Instagram @malsmithtriathletehope you enjoy.Hope you find the value in this.

On This episode we speak to Ren Brennan, who is a fitness instructor and personal trainer based in the South Lakes. Ten says "I spent many years teaching sports and ensuring people, particularly children, have fundamental movements (balance, agility and coordination) to be able to live and enjoy an active life. I moved to the Lake District 20 years ago to fulfil my passion of being able to live an active healthy lifestyle in the outdoors.Being active has shaped who I am from an early age. It has made me determined and has given me so many opportunities and a real sense of belonging and identity. While I've always been above average at sport, I was never “brilliant”, and have had to work hard at it to be in the position I am today. This has given me a tremendous amount of empathy which shows in my coaching and training of others.I am a competing GB triathlete and the European Champion for my age group for the off-road triathlon. I was absolutely thrilled to be named in the top 100 women in cycling this year.I'm passionate about helping others to be healthy, happy and to meet their fitness goals. I want to inspire others, of all abilities, to want to lead a healthy, active lifestyle and to be the best version of themselves that they can be. I love helping people, creating personalised plans and sessions and seeing people improve, be it their fitness, mental health or confidence. I like to get to know my clients, and ensure I adapt sessions to suit them, whether that be the level of difficulty or fitting round their busy lifestyle.I love nothing more than being out in nature and the Lake District is truly the most beautiful place to be able to do this. If you'd like to have a chat to see if we'd be a good fit for personal training, you want to join one of my classes or book in for mountain bike tuition or guiding, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. June 2022ITU 2022 Targu Mures Cross Triathlon World Championships. This race and the result have not sunk in yet . I only ever dreamed of achieving Gold. It's even more meaningful this year as my goal was to just get to start line with no expectations . A foot injury sustained in December and reoccurring in February and  still being managed has meant very little running and only since April. The bike course was pretty hard and brutal with 1000 m climbing in 27 km but this was in my favour . It was a fun physically demanding course . The run course was tough physically so I hoped it was more about who could hang on in as opposed to fastest runner.I couldn't achieve any of this without the help of many folk . I live in Newcastle Under Lyme, Staffordshire, having settled here in 2017 after leaving the RAF following 34 years service. I now work for Leidos UK Defence  division basically as an MOD logistics contractor - it's busy!I started multisport in 2002 after becoming frustrated during a military training course that involved running and swimming. I'd be the fastest runner but slowest swimmer virtually drowning actuallyI've race for RAF Triathlon for many years but now represent Newcastle Staffs Tri Club (NTC). I've had some UK age group success, with some national podiums and a win at the 2011 National Middle Distance Tri champs at Emberton Park (yes, I know Jon Cowell!). I've had some RAF representation also. Dabbled at Ironman distance, winning my age group at the 2014 Outlaws event. Races in Almere at the 2008 World Long Dist Championships and survived an aweful 4K swim to do well on the bike/run. Went through some turmoil after leaving the RAF and that impacted my multisport ambitions - but I kept going. Now focusing on Duathlon as I lost my swim mojo during COVID. Had a rejuvenated 2023 by getting in some balances training and qualified for the European Sprint Duathlon Champs at Darley Moor. Ran a 37:31 10k, 18:09 5k and a 57:46 25 mile bike TT. Now want to minimise the decline in performance as I age! That's why I started the YouTube channel described below. Started a YouTube Duathlon channel recently to document my training as I target the British standard distance duathlon champs on 24 Marc 24. Although not a sport, it was to prove effective in laying down a good base for her fitness in later years.Crystal was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, she was told it would be chronic. Refusing to simply accept it, she began making changes to her health and fitness regimen –  she started running and biking, when an injury forced her into the pool she taught herself to swim and after a conversation with her friends was persuaded to  enter and train for a triathlon. After getting her first one under her belt she got the bug and now an accomplished athlete, she has represented the USA over at the world champs in Abu Dhabi earlier  this year.Since she began training and competing, Crystals own health has improved. Her “chronic” autoimmune disease is now in remission. She has learned the importance of believing that she can, and she hopes to share and model that lesson for others.Since competing in her first sprint triathlon in June 2017, she has learned how to improve at every event, finishing an Olympic distance triathlon only a year later. crystal, who has  qualified for USA Triathlon's Age Group National Championships on several occasions, has also completed the Ironman triathlon in Lake Placid, .Crystal says her story is not that of an individual who was told she could not. Rather, it was one of someone who was never told she could. I hope you are inspired by Crystals Journey, for she is another woman who can.Find us on Instagram @amp_1967X : agegroupmultisportpodcastFacebook : AMPGBfind all our episodes on our websiteWebsite is : https://agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com/email: agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comif you are an agegroup athlete and would like to come on the pod, get in touch.

Great to speak to Jeff and hear how things are done in the USA as well as his awesome story.Jeff says:"My own background in sport goes back to early childhood.  My father and his brother were American football players of note, earning university scholarships and playing briefly professionally in the NFL.  I grew up playing many of the ball sports, like soccer (I know, ‘football' to you) and baseball, and as I grew taller, basketball, and then as I filled out a bit more, American football.  I played as a quarterback through my college years in the mid-80s and then had a short stint playing American football as a professional player-coach in the U.K., in a semi-pro league that just preceded the old World Football League minor league system for the NFL, for a team in the Midlands called the West Bromwich Fireballs. I returned to the U.S. and embarked on a 30-year career in financial services with General Electric and a family with my wife of 29 years (we have two grown children, ages 26 and 22) and stayed somewhat active during that time playing basketball, and had a brief dalliance on the practice squad of the U.S. Olympic team handball team while living in Atlanta around the time of the '96 Summer Olympics there. It was not until I reached age 45 that I moved into endurance sports, after re-injuring a surgically reconstructed knee playing basketball, and slogged through my first sprint triathlon as a fundraiser for a chromosomal birth condition our daughter lives with.  Needless to say, I caught the multisport bug – it has moved from a weekend hobby to a lifestyle -  and I've progressed since then to do some 75+ endurance events, mainly short and middle distance triathlons, with Ironman 70.3 as my longest distance to date.  I first qualified to represent Team USA in age group world championships in Aquabike in 2018 and have now raced in World Triathlon multisport events across various disciplines in Spain, Slovakia, Germany and next year plan to race in Australia … though, as Dr. Jim noted in your podcast, “the elite podium-level racers are definitely not worried about me”.  I'm in it for the amazing experience of representing my country's jersey at these events, being a good ambassador for the sport and the great camaraderie that happens with age-group cohorts from across the world.  I have enormous respect for Team GB and its members. More recently, I've become more involved with helping others get into the life-changing experience of endurance sports, coaching local cycling classes and serving as an active board leader of a local triathlon club in our Utah community, and have most recently served as a race guide and push/assist partner for young para-athletes.hope you enjoy this one as much  as I did.You an follow Jeff on Instagram @schreibinutahYou can Find us on Instagram @amp_1967X : agegroupmultisportpodcastFacebook : AMPGBfind all our episodes on our websiteWebsite is : https://agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com/email: agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comif you are an agegroup athlete and would like to come on the pod, get in touch.

It was great to hear from Andy Tucker who dropped us an email and said he would like to come on the pod and when we found out he was a Guinness world record holder, we couldn't wait to hear what record he had broken.Andy didn't have any sporting background as a kid, but like many kids, spent most of his time playing football and riding his bike. As a young father he realised that he needed to get fitter to be around for his son and so a seed was planted. Andy says "I started in 2012 with my first Triathlon, and am currently training for the Ironman Nice world champs.I have taken a few AG wins, been to the 70.3 world champs and am racing my first GBR age group race at the European Champs in Menen on the Aquabike discipline and hoping for a good result! I am also a double Guinness world record holder for 3-legged running over 12 and 24 hours! " Andy's partner Teresa is also a GB Agegroup athlete and it was while he was supporting her he decided that he would like to earn the blue suit, as he called it. McGillivray oversaw the course throughout the race earlier in the day, taking runners across the starting line and helping to ensure their safe arrival on Boylston Street. This is McGillivray's 51st consecutive completion of the Boston Marathon and the 36th of which he has completed at night after seeing to his race day duties.   “It doesn't feel so long ago that I was 18 years old, sitting on the curb at mile 21, wondering if I would ever get a chance to finish the Boston Marathon. If I could go back and tell my younger self that he goes on to finish that day and 50 more editions, I can't imagine his reaction,” said McGillivray. “I'm grateful for the more than a dozen friends and colleagues who joined me on the journey to the finish line today. I had to dream big to get to this moment, and I couldn't do it without my community and my family that support me every step of the way.”   The weekend featured two other special moments for McGillivray. On Saturday, Team With A Vision inducted McGillivray into their hall of fame during a dinner at the Westin Copley Place. Team With A Vision pairs blind and sighted runners together to complete endurance races across the country. Their efforts support the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, which delivers professional, peer, and volunteer support to over 1,200 individuals each year, giving them the support they need to live with dignity and independence. All funds raised support MABVI's statewide vision rehabilitation services, including 34 low-vision support groups, Assistive Technology and Training Centers, and 400 volunteers matched 1:1 with blind individuals.   In addition, McGillivray was a featured speaker during the Boston Marathon Expo, where World Marathon Challenge champion Becca Pizzi interviewed him about his long history with the race. He shared photos, videos and stories with the crowd, and signed copies of his books for attendees at the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation booth following the presentation.   McGillivray is one of just a handful of runners who have marked half a century or more of completing the world's most famous marathon. Alongside his rich connection to this race, his running resume includes completing the World Marathon Challenge (seven marathons in seven days on seven continents,) nine Ironman Triathlon World Championships, a 1,250-mile run along the U.S. East Coast in 1980 to again benefit the Jimmy Fund, a 24-hour run (120 miles,) a 24-hour bike (385 miles,) and a 24-hour swim (27 miles.) He triathloned around the six New England states by swimming one mile, biking 80 miles and running 20 miles every day for 32 consecutive days. Over the span of his life, he estimates he's run more than 150,000 miles.   For more information on Dave McGillivray, visit www.davemcgillivray.com and follow him on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.   ABOUT DAVE MCGILLIVRAY   Running legend Dave McGillivray has increased the self-esteem of millions of people through his work as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, motivational speaker, author, and athlete. The 10-day event will be held in the charming town in North Queensland in 2024, with thousands of athletes from around the world expected to take part.   The World Triathlon Multisport Championships will see duathlon, long distance triathlon, long distance aquabike, aquathlon, cross triathlon and cross duathlon world championship races organized together during a week-long festival. This ground-breaking event now allows for athletes to compete in various multisport races, as opposed to electing only one each season. And participants can even vie for the Multisport Legend, a title reserved for those who compete in four events.   World Triathlon President and IOC member Marisol Casado said that the organisation was looking forward to heading to Townsville in 2024. “We are absolutely delighted to return to Queensland after such a long time without events in Australia, this time for one of our flagship events: the Multisport World Championships in Townsville,” she said. “Over the last years, Australia has become synonymous of triathlon on its multiple variations, and has proved to be a magnificent host for the triathlon family, playing host to some truly memorable performances and great champions, staging races the results of which have helped shape the path of entire seasons.   “Being able to hold these important races in one fantastic location and all under the banner of one festival has proved to be hugely beneficial for athletes, spectators and media alike, allowing the global World Triathlon family the opportunity to gather together for a true celebration of the sport, and we are extremely excited to head to Townsville in 2024,” she said.   Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said the Multisport World Championships cemented Townsville's place as the sporting events capital of northern Australia. “I'm looking forward to seeing the Multisport World Championships come to life here in the North, bringing together thousands of elite and age-group athletes,” Mr Stewart said. “The Palaszczuk Government is proud to support the Multisport World Championships because we understand the importance of events to local jobs and Townsville's visitor economy.   “This event is great news for North Queensland tourism operators, accommodation and transport providers, and local retailers,” he said. “It's also a golden opportunity for competitors and spectators to build extra time into their stay to explore Townsville's amazing tourism and Indigenous cultural experiences, world-class dining, the reef, and breathtaking tropical islands and rainforests.”   Mayor Jenny Hill said the Townsville City Council and the wider community was looking forward to welcoming the Multisport World Championships to the city.   “Hosting this event is a real coup of Townsville and further reinforces our city's reputation as the events capital of Northern Australia,” Cr Hill said. “With our beautiful natural environment and ideal weather, I can think of no better place for the world's best athletes to test their skills and endurance.   “The championships will also provide a platform to promote our city and region to the world, which will boost our tourism industry for years to come.”   Miles Stewart OAM OLY, Triathlon Australia CEO, welcomed news that the event would be held in Townsville in 2024. “This is fantastic news for triathlon and multisport in Australia, and for our members who have been anticipating, and looking forward to racing and officiating at these world championships on home soil,” said Stewart. “We're expecting our largest Australian representative team on record for Townsville 2024 with seven championships on the schedule from cross-triathlon, aquathlon to long course.   “The festival format will mean athletes can race across multiple disciplines on multiple days, which is really exciting, and will be a great boost for Australian events with athletes racing to qualify for a spot on the team from 2023,” he said. “Australia has some of the best triathlon events in the world, and we can't wait to welcome the world's best to Townsville, and continue to build on our legacy of hosting world-class events.   Official dates for the Townsville Multisport World Championships will be announced in the near future.   The World Triathlon Multisport Championships made its debut in the World Triathlon calendar in 2017 in Penticton (Canada), a successful event that was followed by Fyn (Denmark) in 2018 and Pontevedra (Spain) in 2019. After the event being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, in 2021 the races were held in multiple locations (Almere, El Anillo and Aviles). In 2022 the event will travel to Romania and Slovakia, and will return to the original format of all races in one location during a 10-day festival in Ibiza (Spain) in 2023 and Townsville (Australia) in 2024.   https://www.townsvillenorthqueensland.com.au/events/product-events/?world-triathlon-multisport--championship-59e59f8fc18adcc63caa2e39#:~:text=01%20Jan%202024%20%2D%2005%20Oct,age%20group%20and%20para%2Dtriathletes.     USA TRIATHLON ANNOUNCES 2023 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS CALENDAR COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon today unveiled the dates and locations for the 2023 Age Group,  Club, and High School State Championships, a robust calendar of local, USA Triathlon sanctioned events that give adult and high school athletes around the country the opportunity to race for state titles and qualify for USA Triathlon Nationals, the annual event that requires qualification and brings together the best U.S. amateur triathletes for the Sprint- and Olympic-Distance National Championships.   “It's never too early to plan your race season, and as athletes look ahead to the 2023 calendar, I encourage all triathletes, from the experienced to the newbie, to race in your State Championship next year,” said Victoria Brumfield, USA Triathlon CEO. “Local races in our communities exemplify the spirit and fun of our sport and each State Championship is organized by our dedicated, passionate local race directors who produce first-class events.”   State Championships are open to all triathletes, as no qualification is required to compete. State Championships include a non-drafting Sprint- and Olympic-distance race for age group athletes, as well as a High School State Championship division in the Sprint-distance race.   High school athletes — experienced and newcomers alike — and high school triathlon clubs are encouraged to race their High School State Championship. All high school athletes who finish a High School State Championship race will automatically qualify for the Sprint-Distance National Championships at USA Triathlon Nationals, scheduled for Aug. 4-6 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.   New for 2023, all state championships will also serve as the Club State Championships for age group and high school clubs. Club members around the country are encouraged to race at their local state championship to earn the designation of top club in the state and win the club state champion banner from USA Triathlon!   Many state championships in 2023 will also offer separate events as part of the Splash and Dash Youth Aquathlon (swim-run) series geared towards encouraging youth participation in multisport. Splash and Dash events offer a low barrier to entry for children and their parents with a 100 or 200-meter swim and a 1 km or 2 km run. As a swim-run event, there is no bike portion, and no bike is required. Finishers of events in the Splash and Dash series will receive unique finisher medal from USA Triathlon. Check with your local state championship on details of their Splash and Dash. The full 2023 Splash and Dash series schedule will be released in the coming weeks.   Adult athletes racing at State Championships have increased odds to qualify for Sprint- and Olympic-Distance National Championships at USA Triathlon Nationals. State Championships qualify the top 35 percent, or top five finishers in each age group (whichever is greater) for the 2023 or 2024 Sprint and Olympic-Distance Nationals. Normal qualification criteria at any USA Triathlon-sanctioned triathlon of any distance is the top two, or 15 percent, of an athlete's age group (whichever is greater).   State Championships held after June 1, 2023 will qualify athletes for both the 2023 and 2024 USA Triathlon Nationals. 2023 USA Triathlon Nationals is scheduled for Aug. 4-6 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.     What's New in the 303:   Local Tris - Upcoming Race Price Increases 6/10 - Boulder 70.3 Price Increase 2/12 6/24 - Lake to Lake Price Increase 2/16 Olympic INDIVIDUAL ENTRY Dec. 11 – Feb. 15 — $115 Feb. 16 – April 30 — $125 May 1 – June 23 — $135   Sprint INDIVIDUAL ENTRY Dec. 11 – Feb. 15 — $85 Feb. 16 – April 30 — $95 May 1 – June 23 — $100   7/9 - Peak Olympic Triathlon Individual: $120 until 1/1 $130 until 4/1, $140 until 7/9 at midnight   Tri Boulder July 22nd, 2023 Sprint Tri $110.00 Olympic Tri $135.00     Video of the week:   Jens Voigt at the Old Man Winter Bike Rally Feb 6 2023     Closing: Thanks again for listening in this week.  Please be sure to follow us @303endurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment.  We'd really appreciate it!
