How do you build a thriving tech company that supports tradespeople while revolutionizing an industry rooted in tradition? In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I sit down with Sam Pillar, the co-founder and CEO of Jobber, to uncover the remarkable journey of transforming how small home service businesses operate. Sam shares his inspirational story of meeting his co-founder, Forest, in a coffee shop and how their shared vision led to the creation of a powerful platform that makes everyday tasks easier for home service providers like HVAC technicians, painters, and landscapers. Jobber helps these tradespeople move from pen-and-paper inefficiency to streamlined, profitable operations, allowing them to focus on their craft and create "blue-collar millionaires." We discuss the challenges of convincing small businesses to trust cloud software, the critical importance of consistency, and the unique opportunities that exist in traditional industries ripe for disruption. Sam also reveals how emerging AI technologies will further streamline back-office processes and enhance customer service. “Increasingly, people are deskless,” says Lee Essex of Tango Networks. “They're hybrid workers. They work from home, they're out in the field, or they just don't have an office anymore.” In this short podcast, Lee previews his coming talk at the Cloud Connections event. “I'm here to help you solve problems. From this point of views, let's just have a chat. You know, you've got a problem, you've got an inquisitive mind, or you want to explore something. Let's do that. Let's have some fun with the session.” Lee will be participating in the Cloud Mobility Revolution: Revealing the Power of Mobile Connectivity session. Lee also tells us about what he and his team at Tango Networks do. “We've done this with a lot of the major UC providers, but recently in the past 18 months to two years, we've been focusing a lot of our work with what I would call the industry leaders for a number of reasons, Microsoft, and Cisco. But we are all about working with those vendors to produce a native mobile experience for their subscribers. And when I say a native mobile experience, it's probably worth me taking just a few minutes to explain why.” Watch this shot podcast and learn about Tango. Attend this session to. Today's guest is a retired military pilot of 20 years turned change management professional - Sean McCarthy, Director, Change Management Lead at Takeda. Sean has realized that there are so many parallels between the change that happens in the military world versus the civilian world and thinks there is much more we can do to help the deskless workforce adopt the changes. Quote: "You can have the best technology in the world. If you can't use it as a community, as a business, let's face it, the military and that team together are using that technology to not just use it as one person, it's the whole community that's using it together to leverage and make everyone better. So, if you've got a frontline worker who's using the best technology but doesn't get how it's connected and everything else, then they're lost. They're not adding any additional value." Here are a few key takeaways from the episode: ➖ Ask yourself: how can I use these technologies to be more productive, not just to gather more data? ➖ Usage is just getting people to log in, but adoption is actually integrating it into their workflows ➖ User Acceptance Testing is so valuable ➖ Understanding the gap between success and failure LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sean-mccarthy-9515b53b/ Company Website: https://www.takeda.com/ Here's other ways you can listen: Amazon Music - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/2f4ecd92-6468-4769-b0bf-254e236510b7/FRONTLINE-INNOVATORS Apple Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/frontline-innovators/id1572329402 Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/29m3wnK8pbFjdSvJ9wjmyS Stitcher - https://www.stitcher.com/show/frontline-innovators Google Play - https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZnJvbnRsaW5laW5ub3ZhdG9ycy5jb20vZmVlZC54bWw Youtube - https://youtu.be/IJdSRmWM11w Find more episodes of Frontline Innovators at https://www.frontlineinnovators.com

As the world continues to move away from a traditional office environment and toward a hybrid model or deskless/on-demand formats, employers need to find new ways to train and optimize their workforce to foster long-term engagement, motivation, and retention. In this HRchat episode, we look at this shift and consider tech that can deliver better business results by helping non-desk workers stay informed, connected, and engaged at work. Bill's guests this time are Amir Nehemia, CEO & Co-Founder and Yuval Magid, Chief Operating Officer at Connecteam, an all-in-one app for deskless workers.Questions Include:What are some of the most common misconceptions about the deskless workforce? What are some of the challenges facing leaders and HR when it comes to managing and, engaging with, non-desk workers? How does it differ to managing and connecting with desk-based workers?Let's continue to focus on where HR fits in. What data do HR leaders specifically need access to in order to improve their decision-making - on what is and what isn't working on the frontlines of their organization? How does Connecteam help to improve communication and decision-making with employee-centric datasets and indicators for performance at an organizational level?Traditionally, little of the $300 billion that is spent on business software each year has gone to deskless workers. How have they been left behind when it comes to modern work technology? Many deskless worker industries have some of the highest turnover rates. For example, supermarkets and quick-service restaurant workers have 100% turnover each year. How can technology like yours play a role in increasing retention, as well as getting new hires up the productivity curve? What are some of the benefits of deploying an app for deskless workers? Do you have any examples of the impact your customers have seen after deploying Connecteam? How can HR leaders leverage tech such as yours to enable deskless employees to perform at their best and achieve tangible results? We do our best to ensure editorial objectivity. The views and ideas shared by our guests and sponsors are entirely independent of The HR Gazette, HRchat Podcast, and Iceni Media Inc.
Phoenix Cavalier is the Senior Program Manager, Learning and Development Technology at T-Mobile. He has over 20 years of experience in learning and development. He wants to create strategic harmony between people, systems and tech. Phoenix joins host Justin Lake to talk about how the lack of speed of information is something that negatively impacts deskless workers and how we can use other tools to empower them. Takeaways : The biggest challenge facing deskless workers is trying to reach them and get them information at the same speed as they get it outside of work. It's a matter of will to optimize frontline tools in the same way that everyone gets to use devices outside of work. We should expect the same performance and speed for devices for personal use and deskless workers. You want to make sure that all the tools given to frontline workers are intuitive and make it so that they don't want to quit to avoid using the technology. Frontline workers are often underappreciated and undervalued at a company, it's better to show your appreciation and keep people around rather than constantly hiring new people. Deskless workers are the face of your brand and they are the ones that are the most client facing, so you want them to be a contributor to the business and keep them on. Training is observable, measurable, coachable and it has a clear metric for success. It is something that is a linear event that can be completed and demonstrated. Google will be faster than any of the training or having a frontline employee go through multiple different links to get an answer. Quote of the show 2:15 “How are we helping people in frontline if it takes longer than it does in real life, so to speak outside of work. So I think that's the challenge. It cannot be this slow.” Links: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/phoenixcavalier/ Company Website: https://www.t-mobile.com/ Ways to Tune In: Amazon Music - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/2f4ecd92-6468-4769-b0bf-254e236510b7/FRONTLINE-INNOVATORS Apple Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/frontline-innovators/id1572329402 Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/29m3wnK8pbFjdSvJ9wjmyS Stitcher - https://www.stitcher.com/show/frontline-innovators Google Play - https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZnJvbnRsaW5laW5ub3ZhdG9ycy5jb20vZmVlZC54bWw YouTube - https://youtu.be/nnKAEtNN-NI

Leaders of B2B - Interviews on B2B Leadership, Tech, SaaS, Revenue, Sales, Marketing and Growth
Prateek Chakravarty, CEO at Zinier, provides a fresh perspective for SaaS startups in this episode. His vision focuses on the https://www.zinier.com/deskless worker. This sector is often overlooked when it comes to software. It includes workers in the field and trades that power our world.Chakravarty experienced the business problems of the deskless worker when working on isolated oil rigs for months on end. Challenges included having to submit status reports, requests for parts and supplies, and organizing schedules. He feels that software companies have focused too much on the back office but not directly on the deskless workers.Chakravarty believes these problems have caused a decline in this sector. Younger people no longer find this sector appealing and are opting for white-collar roles. He believes that this disparity will cause problems in the future. Deskless worker costs will be driven up, the quality of their output may decline, and it will affect every commodity on the planet.Chakravarty insists that a great software product is one that revolves around its user. This is why it's essential for every developer to be immersed in the experience of the deskless worker. Details like the software being able to work when the user is wearing thick gloves or in locations with extreme noise must be factored in. Startup founders and business leaders looking for inspiration and innovation will find Chakravarty's vision insightful. His approach to the user experience can enhance any product-focused business leader. This podcast interview focuses on product innovation that has the power to enable desk-less workers to perform at their highest potential, with minimal intervention to their workday. My guest is Rami Darwish, Founder, and CEO of Arrow LabsRami is a founder and entrepreneur in digital technology for the enterprise and b2b segment. He has a deep understanding of business growth and scale strategy. He's an expert in workforce management and digitalization of the field operation and beyond that, he has a deep understanding of mobility in the enterprise. In 2011 he founded Arrow Labs a company that's on a mission to provide companies pioneering and reliable workforce management solutions that impact their people and operations in a meaningful way.It envisions a world where employees can connect, collaborate and perform at their highest potential, with minimal intervention to their workday. And this inspired me, and hence I invited Rami to my podcast. We explore what's broken in the world of the desk-less worker and how this negatively impacts efficiency, accuracy, customer service, and safety. Rami shares the approach they've taken to enable field workers to deliver their best work in the toughest conditions. He also details what they did to not only survive the pandemic but come out stronger altogether. Last but not least he shares his experiences in creating momentum, especially in a market that hasn't got a change or growth mindset. Here are some of his quotes:I used to work for fortune 500, corporate companies in the tech space. And I was working on large projects that would cover an entire city, for example, a safe city project or an integrated city project. And we have a lot of tools, everything from video wall tools to access to databases and information in real-time. But when you're doing a large city-type project, you're interacting with the real world. You're not sitting in a bubble, you're interacting with people, workers in the street, frontline people that either are providing you valuable information, or you need to provide them valuable information. What I realized while I was doing that was: Oh my God,...as soon as we want to get information out to the front line or get information from the frontline back into the HQ, everything stops being digital became manual.During this interview, you will learn four things:How to avoid wasting lots of energy, time, and money by focusing your efforts on people who believe what you believeWhy you should always strategize about the two or three moves ahead - plan early - do a lot of smaller executive steps ahead of time That there's a fine line between being capital efficient and missing an opportunity - take chances. Why every opportunity should start with the simple question: Do I firmly believe in it? While working from home and distance learning taught us that working and learning from our homes is possible, for 80% of the global workforce that are considered “deskless,” sitting behind a computer all day to perform their duties is not necessary. This presents a great challenge and opportunity for employers looking to provide critical skills and education to these “deskless workers.” In order to provide the necessary on-the-job education and training for frontline workers, employers must turn to other effective means of training. In this episode, we're focusing on an old way of communication - text messaging - that is being leveraged as a completely new way of training our frontline workers to drive education, training and growth at work. Joining Natalie in this episode is Rachael Nemeth, Founder and CEO of Opus Training, a digital platform that delivers text message courses. Rachael led restaurant operations, facilities, and people for over a decade in the hospitality industry. She comes from a family of restaurant veterans and is also an alum of Union Square Hospitality Group and Hot Bread Kitchen. Rachael is a certified English as Second Language (ESL) instructor and is dedicated to inclusive training practices. What We Discussed in This Episode: What does Opus Training help employers train and educate their employees ? What has been the greatest challenge for employers when it comes to text message training? How did Rachael overcome her personal challenge of dealing with imposter syndrome and how can other founders do the same? What are top tips for properly onboarding clients and humanizing the process? How can human resource leaders and small business owners use Opus Training to stay ahead of the training technology curve? What lies ahead for the education industry and what opportunities exist in this space? What is “situation-based” training? Rachael's practical tips for other founders and leaders in the technology sector Resources Mentioned: Superhuman - https://superhuman.com/ Founding Sales: The Early Stage Go-to-Market Handbook by Peter R. Deskless workers represent up to 80% of the workforce. But to date, technology vendors haven’t prioritized their needs.
The world looks so much different than it did this time last year. In just 12 months, the global workforce shifted remote and gone is the day of the desk. Approximately 80% of the total workforce, or 2.7 billion people, now make up the deskless population, including sales reps, customer service advisors, technicians, and more. Those new to remote work faced issues arising from a lack of digital tools to aid with productivity, inability to access real-time information, and dated communication/reporting systems that do not reach consumers on mobile devices. To survive in 2020, companies were forced to evolve fast. Now aware of the vast disparity between traditional office technology and deskless tools, top management is taking action to accelerate the development of deskless tools. Ashish Joshi from goDeskless explores this topic with me in today's episode. We discuss how their AI-powered workforce automation platform was designed for the frontline deskless workforce. We also talk about the lessons learned from 2020's mass push towards a digital workforce.
Deskless Office (Get Things Done #139) by Daniel Whyte III
According to the recent State of Technology for the Deskless Workforce report, deskless staff make up to 80 percent of the global working population. Despite this significant number, non-desk workers have been overlooked by tech companies and their IT teams in terms of the tools and technologies at their disposal. In fact, only 1 percent of enterprise software investment is allocated to the deskless workforce! This risks deskless employees feeling isolated and disengaged as they lack the latest tools to perform their jobs effectively, while their office-based co-workers benefit from technologies like digital workplace solutions, ERPs, CRMs, and more. The situation has started to change in recent years as more companies plan to increase their investment in deskless technologies. In this HRchat we look at this shift and consider tech that can deliver better business results by helping non-desk workers stay informed, connected, and engaged at work.Bill Banham's guest this time is Jordan Ekers, a mobile technology entrepreneur, co-founder of Nudge and one of the industry’s most prominent advocates for the deskless employee experience.Jordan has worked with many of North America’s leading retail, foodservice, and hospitality brands to design new, transformative approaches for executing on the Nudge brand promise by empowering frontline teams. With extensive experience in customer loyalty, rewards strategy, and mobile innovation, he previously co-founded one of Canada’s most popular loyalty programs, Carrot Rewards, a wellness app that motivates over 1 million users to make better everyday lifestyle choices. Jordan has been a speaker and conference chair at major industry events, such as NRF Big Show, Future Stores, and Future Guest Experiences. With a track record of impacting the moments (and metrics) that matter, Nudge’s platform has the tools needed to reliably inspire employees and guide their day-to-day actions. HR pros and leaders adopt Nudge to reach organizational goals and improve decision-making with real-time employee insights; from knowledge rates and sentiment, to text analysis and location audits. This episode is supported by Nudge, a communications platform that delivers business results by helping non-desk workers stay informed, connected, and engaged at work. While Covid-19 has pushed technology deeper into the deskless workforce, it's also elucidating shortcomings of existing tools not optimized for the unique challenges of specific industries and regions of the world. In this conversation between Kris Kemeny, Managing Director of the venture arm for Tekfen, one of Turkey's largest industrial conglomerates, and BSV investor John Mannes, we discuss how founders can build for the global deskless workforce while localizing solutions for customers.

Today, more workers than ever are in roles that do not provide them with an office, a desk, or even a computer or email address. Forbes says that more than 2 billion workers work in a deskless environment. So how can employers communicate with those staff, engage them with learning content, and keep them informed? In today's episode, Ben interviews Jon Thurmond, an HR leader with Team Fishel, to explore this challenging issue. Thurmond has led the charge at Team Fishel to create an internal podcast to share content both for communications and training purposes, and it is already receiving positive support from the rest of the organization. In the conversation, Jon explains how to get started, what it takes to build a business case, and a few ideas for the kinds of content he is targeting with the new communication channel. How could getting rid of the desks in your classroom, promote deep learning for your students? Today we have Richard Smith on the show to share some of his best practices for inspiring young people to learn French. My cohort 21 colleague Jen Bairos told me about Richard Smith back when we recorded our episode together—which is episode 13 (part 2) if you haven’t listened to it yet––I didn’t know a lot, but Jen basically said that he was a French teacher who went deskless to promote better classroom conversations in French. I was intrigued. But I honestly don’t know anything about French, so I felt like I wouldn’t be the best person to conduct the interview. So I asked Jen to record a call with Richard and that is what I am sharing with you today. Go to: https://cohort21.com/teachingtomorrow/2019/11/08/26-deskless-french-learning-with-richard-smith/ for full show notes and links to resources mentioned in the show

Zinc and Field Technologies Online recently announced findings from a new report “Effective Enterprise Communication: The Foundation Of Strategic Field Service” and some of the key findings include: 23% of respondents are using consumer messaging apps - i.e. text, WhatsApp, GroupMe, etc. - which pose risks with security and administration. 90% of survey respondents indicated that real-time communication is either mission-critical (50%) or very important (40%) to their field workers being able to do their jobs effectively. 70% of field service organizations surveyed say their visibility into field operations could use improvement. More than half of survey respondents (53%) reported that their field workers are only somewhat engaged or even somewhat disengaged. Further, 50% of respondents said that they need to improve upon their methods of enabling field workers to provide feedback to management. The report examined how effective enterprise communication enables field service organizations to be more intentional and strategic in their service delivery. Field service, and deskless workers, comprise anywhere from 72-80% of the global workforce, or about 3 billion people. These workers include field service technicians, hotel staff, utility workers, flight crews, warehouse staff, manufacturing plant engineers, etc. As these workers are always on the go and not sitting at a desk, the tools and technologies they use to communicate in real time on the job are explored in greater detail in the report. The findings from the report reinforce what we already know. Real-time communication drives measurable results for field teams, yet deskless workers aren’t armed with easy to use technology built with their unique needs in mind. Innovative field service organizations who embrace a communication platform built for deskless worker will improve the productivity of their workforce by giving them real-time access to the information and resources they need to get their jobs done. Zinc CEO Stacey Epstein talks about the new report and the role Zinc plays in the deskless worker industry.
It would be tempting to put Zinc - founded by two former Yammer employees - into the same bucket with Slack, Atlassian, Microsoft Teams and the myriad other “team collaboration” tools that have popped up in recent years. But Zinc is a mobile messaging app aimed at a completely different audience. In fact, most of Zinc’s users don’t have desks. Their “offices” are trucks, delivery vehicles, or far-flung job sites. This is a massive number of users – in fact, according to Google, “deskless workers” account for between 72 and 80 percent of the global workforce. Deskless workers universally despise email and rarely even use a computer. Zinc, in many cases, will end up replacing pen and paper within an organization. In others, it replaces existing digital tools throughout much of the company, including email and texting. Think of Zinc as a highly secure, all-mode messaging app meant for business communications. Zinc customers include companies within the construction, manufacturing, healthcare, and hospitality industries who have to be in constant communication with each other to solve on-the-ground problems for customers. I chat with Stacey Epstein who reveals more about her story discusses where enterprise communication is headed in the context of deskless workers. We also talk about a recent deal that Zinc struck with GE Digital’s ServiceMax, one designed to allow field service teams to communicate in real-time and also access product information. GE understands that field workers who are in-the-know work faster, have higher completion rates and are more engaged than those who aren’t. And, are more likely to help retain customers.

In this special episode of Helping Sells Radio, Director of Workplace by Facebook for the Americas Monica Adractas gives a talk about how Facebook thinks about educating employees of enterprise customers, many of whom do not have email and do not sit at desks. Deskless workers interact with colleagues at work primarily through an app in their mobile phone, which requires a whole new way of thinking about educating customers at scale. This is a recording of her talk at the Business of Customer Education Conference (BOCE), which was co-located at the Gainsight Pulse Customer Success Conference in May 2017.
