It's our final episode covering the stories of Tarkir Dragonstorm, and this time we're wrapping up the side stories! We're talking Sultai, we're talking Temur, and believe it or not we're talking Mardu, too! How do these side stories help tell the overall story of a Tarkir finding its past? Well, with the help of three excellent authors they do it very well! It is that time of the Magic calendar again. I meet with Jason Ye, Adam (DDAVP) and Zach Kagan to talk about our vision for the upcoming set. Which cards are spiking our interest? Which cards are confusing us? Why do we think some archetypes are going to be great and some are going to be rubbish? We discuss our impressions of the new set, and after a lengthy debate, present our draft "skeletons" - realistically built propositions of decks you might want to try out yourself. From Azorius "I don't wanna cast things on my turn" to "Sultai deck that just wants 12 copies of Murder" - we have quite a collection of solutions. Not surprising really, given the selection of my co-host from among the most unique thinkers in Limited magic. The 8bA Podcast is a podcast bringing you the latest and greatest geeky news of the past week.NEWS ITEMSBandcamp. The Verge reports that roughly 50 percent of staff at the indie music platform were effectively laid off as part of the company's sale to Songtradr. Songtradr has not voluntarily recognized Bandcamp's unionization efforts at the time of recording. Employees who were not extended offers from Songtradr will be eligible for severance, according to the platform's previous owner, EPIC.Bethesda. The Verge reports that Bethesda's head of publishing, Pete Hines, is retiring. Hines has been with Bethesda since 1999, when he joined as Senior VP of Global Marketing and Communications. He is best known as the public face for the Fallout series.Candela Obscura. Polygon reports that Darrington Press's Illuminated Worlds TTRPG will be released on November 14. The game features the Victorian gothic setting of the Fairelands, and the players are members of a secret society that investigates strange occurrences and dangerous magick. Critical Role has both a how-to-play video and an actual play series to showcase the game. The book will have two versions - a standard hardcover for $40 and a limited edition hardcover for $60.Fallout. IGN reports that some of the cards and mechanics from the upcoming Fallout commander decks for Magic: the Gathering were revealed. The four decks will feature Dogmeat in a Naya deck revolving around Auras, Equipment, and Junk tokens; Caesar, Legion's Emperor in a Mardu deck revolving around token generation; Dr. Madison Li in a Jeskai deck focusing on energy counters; and The Wise Mothman in a Sultai mutant deck that tries to proliferate rad counters. Of particular note are cards like Rad Storm (3U, Instant; Storm, Proliferate), Nuka Cola Vending Machine (3, Artifact; 1,T: Create a Food. Whenever you sacrifice a Food, create a tapped Treasure), and Crucible of Worlds (3, Artifact; You may play lands from your graveyard).Junk tokens are an artifact that lets you exile the top card of your library to play that card until the end of your turn. For Radiation, if you have any rad counters at the beginning of your precombat main phase, you mill that many cards and lose 1 life and a rad counter for each nonland card milled that way.Magic: the Gathering. Polygon reports that Wizards of the Coast will be consolidating Draft Boosters and Set Boosters into one product, called Play Boosters, in 2024. The change will begin with the Murders at Karlov Manor set. The price will match the cost of a Set Booster and contain the following: 6 slots for common cards, 1 slot for a common or card from The List, 2 slots for uncommons, 1 slot for a rare or mythic rare, 1 slot for a basic land, 1 slot for a non-foil wildcard, 1 slot for a foil wildcard, and 1 slot for an ad, token, helper, or art card. Wizards is hoping this will reduce the burden of carrying multiple SKUs on local game stores. Longtime players will note that the game has only had different types of boosters for a few years. Pokemon. Polygon reports that the Van Gogh Museum will no longer offer a special Pikachu promo that ties in with its Pokemon exhibit due to safety concerns. Scalpers and fans ransacked the gift shop in a manner befitting a stereotypical Black Friday doorbuster sale. The museum said the card will be made available for purchase at the Pokemon Center online store and participating Dutch retailers, but will never again be available at the museum.Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Mario's next adventure is now out to widespread applause. Ars Technica notes that the game is like “somebody at Nintendo asked, ‘What if we made a game where every level was like [infamous SMW2: Yoshi's Island level] Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy?” GameInformer and IGN praised the creative Wonder effects and badges as mechanics to augment gameplay.LINKSWebsite: https://8-bitadventures.comPatreon: https://patreon.com/8bitAdventuresMerch: https://8-bitadventures.com/shopJoin the Discord: https://discord.gg/FAPKjjQ“1-UP” is by Professor Shyguy. Auch wenn andere Farben in den letzten Jahren ordentlich auf- oder vielleicht sogar überholt haben, sind Sultai-Decks immer noch eine Commander-Kraft, mit der man als Spieler rechnen muss - und gut arbeiten kann. Nashi, Moon's Legacy is a new card in March of the Machine: Aftermath that shows everybody's favorite adopted rat ninja growing into the scholar his mother apparently wished he could be. Additionally, he's added two new colors to become Sultai and support rat cards as well as legendary spells in the graveyard. For three mana, the card looks powerful in decks that can take advantage of the effect. The arrival of the bog mist was a curse. They're always in there. Goading us. Mocking us. Ending us. We got a Sultai changling that's always swinging. We also broach the topics of butthole botox and bully Tom Brady. "That card's OP!" "There's no way I can beat that Sultai deck!" "Combo isn't fair!!" Sadly, many commander players are resigned to be prey, and never the predator. In this episode of EDHTakes, Spencer and Elijah discuss the cards and strategies that put them on the offensive. After discussing what they hunt within the game, Spencer and Elijah take a look at some cards they dig from the new Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion.

It's come down to two! Grixis vs. Sultai. Who's going to take the crown? (And yes, there's Marchesa references in the podcast, so that's relevant.) We've heard a lot of the arguments for and against each color combination before, so this episode gets a little more conversational, anecdotal, and references other formats a little more. First, though, we discuss the Mystical Archive. The set-within-a-set coming in Strixhaven. There are some powerful, and needed, reprints in here and we've got some thoughts. Covertgoblue is back, and this week we go over the updated metas for both Standard and Historic. Historic is settling in to a new meta as Kaladesh cards take root. New archetypes such as Energy, Vehicles and Gearhulk Control are emerging, as well as strong updates to existing decks such as Monored and Sultai. On the Standard end, we check in on The Big Three (Gruul, Rogues and Yorion Doom), and then look at some of the less-played strategies threatening to upset the vegetable cart. Find Covertgoblue on his YouTube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/user/danno029 ) and at his personal site ( https://covertgoblue.com/home ). Harlan and Zach go over how to beat the broken deck when you're laddering, then dig into the misinformation around Sultai and how you can use it to actually beat the Omnath Menace! Link to the Sultai deck being discussed: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/3421218#paper
With substantial changes in both Arena constructed formats, Gerry and Bryan are finally enjoying themselves again! Standard has a bit of a Sultai problem, but this past week showed there is still a lot of room for innovation. Similarly, Sultai Field occupies the top tier of historic, but there are a bunch of options that are starting to figure out the best way to fight the zombie hordes. Listen and learn how to climb the ladder! Ari Lax stops by the show to discuss post ban standard and how it's been. We talk some Sultai, how dominant the archetype feels, then get into if the bans were even worth doing. We also touch on what Amonkhet Remastered will be bringing to historic so stay tuned to the end if thats what you're interested in!
Post-ban Standard has quickly become centered around yet another Simic-based archetype, but Gerry and Bryan aren’t ready to give up hope! The guys are convinced that there are multiple archetypes capable of challenging for the throne, they just need to adjust for the Sultai menace. Hear how Gerry’s finding success with rebuilt classics and how Bryan is changing Sultai to get the largest edge in the mirror. A can’t miss episode for anyone who wants to win in Standard! The Standard format is fresh, and this week we're fresher with our takes on what decks are at the top of the metagame moving forward. Sultai vs. Temur Adventure vs. Rakdos Sac, and a bunch of mono-colored control decks to boot. We cover all the major archetypes we're seeing and check in on the power level of outliers like Winota and Yorion. Then, we switch over to Historic to cover the imminent release of Amonkhet Remastered. Spoiler alert: they've added some non-Amonkhet cards to this release, and they are BANGERS. We go into how these off-set cards are going to redefine the format... basically, there's a lot to like here. Also, we're excited to welcome Covertgoblue's video content to the YouTube Arena Craft Podcast account. He kicks things off with Jeskai Feather on the top 50 Mythic ladder in Historic. The dorks are back with another edition of There's No Plane Like Home! This time we're taking a look at everyone's favorite (?) time-travel affected plane, Tarkir. Tarkir is based on various real-world Asian countries, so the physical aspects of the plane don't really change through the versions. Of course, when you're hopping through timelines, it's not really the physical world you're worried about. In the past you're at war with the dragons and are in danger of getting eaten. In the Dragons timeline you're subservient to your dragon overlords. And in the Khans timeline...well that's actually not so bad. The one thing that is consistent throughout all timelines is that the Sultai... are just awful. The worst. Come join us in the future! Because we’re all suckers for new cards… That’s right, we can’t stop reviewing this new product. Now that we’ve thoroughly beat the cuss out of all the legends, let’s go see if there’s anything else in Ikoria or Commander 2020 that’s worth taking note of as commander players. Seriously. You’re gonna want to join. We’ll tell you what we really think of WotC’s attempts at political cards and Sultai and Jeskai getting more tools that are begging to get used. ------------------- Patreon: YouTube: Discord: Twitter: @legend_creature ------------------- Intro and outro music artists vary each episode, but comes courtesy of the sexy souls of the following artists: Home – Protector 101 – Dan Terminus – Silver Richards –

A Sultai bomb that is going to redefine which member of your Commander pod is the jerk, plus it very easily could shake up the Standard meta beyond recognition. Strap in, people, Ikoria is going to get weird. Overthinking MTG is a daily podcast where our host, HamHocks42, takes a look at a random card from Magic: the Gathering and talks about it for at least 10 minutes. Often, though, he ends up yammering about whatever's on the top of his mind that the card reminds him of and a half hours passes and it turns out all he's done is share his thoughts on recent news related to Commander, Magic: the Gathering Arena, Modern, Pioneer, Standard, or humorous anecdotes from his kitchen table jank days. If you want to get involved, you can absolutely join the conversation or request specific cards over on Discord: https://discord.gg/yefBNBu Also, our host live streams on Twitch every weekday morning: https://www.twitch.tv/hamhocks42
