High cholesterol runs in her family — and that personal history is exactly why she's passionate about helping you understand yours. In this episode, Dr. Vickie takes you to mini medical school for a deep dive into cholesterol: what it is, where it comes from, why your body needs it, and what the brand new 2026 guidelines say about managing it. She breaks down the PREVENT heart disease calculator — a tool built on data from millions of people — and explains exactly what numbers you need to know your 10-year risk for heart attack and stroke. You'll learn why diet and exercise can move the needle more than doctors once thought, which foods raise and lower your LDL, and the truth about statins — including the real side effect profile and why some of the fear around them is rooted in misinformation rather than science. I'm thrilled to welcome Dr. Meredith Provost to The Egg Whisperer Show for an essential conversation about weight, exercise, and fertility. Dr. Provost brings an incredible background to this discussion: she's a reproductive endocrinologist at Indiana Fertility Institute with degrees from NC State, McMaster University, and a PhD from Cambridge in the history and philosophy of science. As a former Division I volleyball player and athlete herself, she uniquely understands both the science and the practical realities of maintaining health while trying to conceive. Her approach is refreshingly balanced and evidence-based, making her the perfect expert to tackle these often-confusing topics. Read the full show notes on Dr. Aimee's website In this episode, we dive deep into how weight impacts fertility for both women and men, exploring the hormonal mechanisms behind these connections. Dr. Provost shares her compassionate, non-restrictive approach to helping patients optimize their health without extreme measures or body shaming. We discuss realistic dietary recommendations, the role of BMI in fertility outcomes, and what exercise is safe during different stages of fertility treatment, from IUI cycles to egg freezing, IVF, and early pregnancy. Her philosophy of "fertility is a marathon, not a race" resonates throughout our conversation, offering hope and practical guidance for anyone on their fertility journey. In this episode, we cover: How weight affects the communication between your brain and ovaries, impacting ovulation The difference between how higher and lower BMI affects fertility in women versus men Why eating "real food" matters more than following restrictive fad diets Exercise guidelines during IUI, IVF, egg freezing, embryo transfer, and early pregnancy The truth about BMI goals and why Dr. Provost doesn't restrict treatment based on weight alone How to create sustainable lifestyle changes with accountability partners Why you shouldn't eliminate all the healthy coping mechanisms (like exercise) when trying to conceive Resources: Indiana Fertility Institute: fertilityindy.com Dr. Meredith Provost on Instagram: @meredithprovostmd "The Obesity Code" by Dr. Jason Fung (mentioned for intermittent fasting information) Online BMI calculators for tracking body mass index Do you have questions about IVF? Click here to join Dr. Aimee for The IVF Class. The “Fabulous Four of Life”—Diet, Exercise, Sleep/Recovery, and Happiness—form the cornerstone of a truly balanced and high-performing life. Each of these elements directly influences the others, creating a powerful synergy that drives physical health, mental clarity, and emotional resilience. A nutritious diet not only fuels energy but also acts as biochemical information for the body, influencing gene expression, mood, and longevity. Proper hydration, balanced macronutrients, and colorful plant-based foods enhance focus and emotional stability, setting the stage for optimal performance throughout the day.Exercise serves as both medicine and meditation for the body and mind. Regular movement strengthens the heart, sharpens cognition, and triggers the release of endorphins, creating a natural buffer against stress and depression. Even small, consistent bouts of physical activity—like brisk walks or resistance training—help maintain muscle tone, improve circulation, and elevate mood. Combined with intentional breathing and mindful stretching, exercise becomes a tool not just for fitness but for balance, grounding, and confidence in everyday life.Sleep and recovery complete the physical foundation by enabling repair, growth, and emotional regulation. Deep, consistent rest allows the brain to consolidate learning and reset the body's systems. Paired with happiness practices—such as gratitude journaling, mindfulness, and meaningful relationships—this foundation transforms health into fulfillment. Happiness is not merely a feeling but a state born from purpose, connection, and alignment between values and actions. When all four pillars are practiced together, they cultivate a life filled with energy, clarity, and sustainable success.Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about the steps to a joyful life!

But type 2 diabetes is much more complex than that, and it's far more common than most people realize. About one in seven adults in the U.S. has diabetes, while roughly one in three lives with prediabetes. Even if it doesn't affect someone directly, chances are it impacts a family member or close friend. This topic hits close to home for many, including myself, after a relative reached out being newly diagnosed. That conversation reminded me how overwhelming those first moments can feel—when questions start piling up about what diabetes really means and how to move forward. In this week's episode, I'll talk about type 2 diabetes—what it really is, how it's treated, and how lifestyle plays a major role in managing it. We'll also look deeper into how it affects the body beyond blood sugar and why bariatric surgery has become such a powerful option for some patients. It's a condition that deserves more attention—not only because it's so widespread, but because with the right approach, it's manageable and, in some cases, even reversible. If this is something that affects you or someone close to you, I encourage you to listen to the full episode. Found My Fitness - Rhonda Patrick Key Takeaways  To some degree, insulin resistance is a common root cause for most chronic diseases A low-carb diet may offer a metabolic advantage by reducing insulin levels, which enhances metabolic flexibility and improves energy regulationFat tissue has a much higher metabolic rate when insulin levels are lowSince there is much more metabolic uncoupling, the body's engine revs up to burn energy just to create heat   How to reverse a diabetes diagnosis in 90 days Control carbs – focus on whole fruits and vegetables, limiting sugary or starchy choices like bananas, pineapples, and mangoes Prioritize protein and do not fear fat – eat protein-rich foods regularly, and do not worry too much about naturally occurring fats Time meals and exercise – Eat more calories earlier in the day, avoid late-night eating, and take short walks after your biggest meals to reduce blood sugar spikesEating an evening snack spikes your blood sugar and ramps up the sympathetic nervous system, thus increasing body temperature and increasing the likelihood of insomnia and poor sleep; so do not eat within the 3-4 hours before bed Muscle is a great glucose consumer: The more muscle you have, the more metabolic wiggle room you have because muscle serves as a glucose sink Blood-sugar-lowering supplements that work:magnesium, alpha lipoic acid (ALA),berberine, andapple cider vinegar Eating too much linoleic acid (from seed oils) can lead to the production of a toxic substance (4H&E) that prevents your body from creating new small fat cells, and instead forces existing fat cells to just swell upConcerning GLP-1 dosing, caution is warranted; it is probably better to microdose these powerful drugs and think of them as short-term behavioral modification tools instead of lifelong prescriptions  The top biomarkers to measure to determine metabolic health and aging:(1) fasting insulin; want below 6 µIU/mL), (2) Triglyceride-to-HDL ratio; want ratio under 1.5, and (3) Uric acid; want lower levels generallyLower your insulin by starting with tomorrow's breakfast: Either fast through breakfast and drink coffee, tea, or yerba mateOr if you do want to eat, then choose low-glycemic-load vegetables and berries, and consume more protein and fat  Do whatever you can to keep your insulin in check for as long as possible throughout the day; the longer the insulin is low, the more you will improve your insulin sensitivity Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.org Get access to 130 episodes of my premium podcast, The Aliquot, as a FoundMyFitness Premium Member Insulin resistance silently shapes the trajectory of nearly every major chronic disease, yet it's often overlooked until blood sugar abnormalities become obvious. I'm often asked by colleagues and patients for a full breakdown of what I say in clinic with patients with type 2 diabetes or who are at higher risk of this condition to help them better manage it before medications. But it takes time. And no GP in the NHS or elsewhere has over an hour to explain this in enough detail such that people can understand how to take action themselves. The recommendations for medical professionals is for them to explore diet and lifestyle options before turning to pharmaceuticals for the management of type 2 diabetes. But with less than 10 minutes per appointment, this is an impossible task. This is the basis of today's podcast. If I had an hour with you, or your loved one, this is how I would explain what type 2 diabetes is, why sugar control is so important and what things you can do to prevent or better manage the condition and even potentially put it into remission.I would love to know your comments and feedback on today's episode, so if you have any suggestions, please leave a comment on YouTube and do share this with anyone who you feel could benefit from the information.

Brad Kearns: Diet, Exercise, and Lifestyle Tips For Natural Testosterone Optimization

This is an important show to help you be the best you can be throughout life, instead of following the typical path of accelerated aging and hormone decline driven by adverse lifestyle practices. Besides doing regular blood tests for male sex hormone panels, there is an obvious scoreboard to monitor in the form of visceral fat. Fighting the spare tire battle is the essence of aging gracefully, as visceral fat accumulation begets the accumulation of more fat and suppressed hormones. The tips outlined in this episode are simple, doable, sustainable and inexpensive—I will cover fitness (emphasizing sprinting and lower body strength training), diet (emphasizing protein and ditching processed foods), some talk about supplements, healthy romantic relationship dynamics, and a bit of proven biohacking such as red light therapy and therapeutic cold exposure.   TIMESTAMPS: How about some lifestyle tips for natural testosterone optimization? [00:54] When you want to think about hormone optimization, look first at sprinting. [04:18] You have to watch out for a pattern of overly stressful workouts. [07:29] The proper way to sprint is to give a near maximum effort of 92 to 95% and also take good recovery period. [09:27] Brad talks about how he does his own sprint workouts. A six to one ratio recovery to work interval is the goal. [14:19] Strength training involves emphasis on correct form, precise technique, and keeping your core stabilized. [21:09]  Monitor your testosterone level for your overall level of energy, vitality and anti-aging longevity status. [31:19] When looking at your diet, the foremost objective is to consume sufficient protein. [34:27] Vegans and vegetarians need to be very careful in your efforts to consume sufficient protein. [36:35] People who engage in intermittent fasting need to be concerned about getting sufficient protein. [39:52] As we age, our protein synthesis diminishes our ability to digest and assimilate and use protein as the building blocks for muscle and all other organs. [41:47] There have always been arguments about the macronutrients, fat and carbohydrate, but the bottom line if you eliminate the nutrient deficient foods, you are on the right track. [42:52] A spare tire is a sign of serious health disturbance. [46:48] Whey protein, and creatine are the very best, cleanest, freshest natural sources of protein.  [51:17] There are many supplements that claim to boost your energy, strength, build muscle and increase libido. [57:56] There are hormonal underpinnings that influence relationship dynamics. [59:45] Red light therapy can also boost your testosterone production. [01:04:08] There are some things to avoid that tank your testosterone. Stay away from plastics. [01:06:50] A sedentary lifestyle promotes chronic inflammation.  Keep moving.
