Circl is a wine-centric restaurant led by a team of friends and hospitality experts in Punch Lane in Melbourne's CBD. Unique in concept, with an impressive 1,500-bottle wine list and strong 150+ by-the-glass offering, Circl wants diners to try some of the world's most exciting and up-and-coming wines, alongside European-inspired food with Scandinavian finesse. I went in to chat to Executive Chef Elias Salomonsson, who has worked for the Scott Pickett Group and Vue Group and I had a very lovely time. Elias gave me a tour of the venue, including a heady moment standing in the wine cellar surrounded by walls of beautiful wine. Elias has put together an incredible menu which has nods to his Swedish heritage as well as some of Australia's best produce: Loddon Estate duck with Davidson plum barbecue sauce and burnt orange or a Blackmore Wagyu tri tip steak with mountain pepper cafe de Paris butter, the menu also reflects Elias' love of caviar, snacks and dessert. I was lucky enough to try a glass of Albarino and the Circl Caviar Tin which is a brown butter crumpet served with a little tin of seasoned crème fraiche, soft green herbs and Yarra Valley salmon roe. Delicious! Elias grew up watching and helping his grandmother cook. He always loved food and so it was no surprise to his family that he became a chef. He started his working life across the water from home town Malmo in Copenhagen and then went on to Ireland. Then he came to Melbourne for six months, loved it so much that 10 years later he is here and cooking glorious food for us.

Was I correct that while you went to school at the University of Toronto, you are now in British Columbia?   INTRO: I went to Teacher's College in Toronto, at U of T back in the late 1990s. I remember all of dreams I had back then, of how I would change the world. Can you share where your mindset was when you were a student, walking around those streets in downtown Toronto? What was your vision for the world back then? Q1: I've said this over and over again on this podcast, where our goal is to connect the most current brain research to our daily life (whether we work in our local schools, sports environments or modern workplaces). Back in the day, no one EVER asked me “what are you doing for your brain health.” When did you FIRST start to consider the importance of your brain, and think that the world needs help with optimizing this important, yet complex organ? Q2: What have you invented, how does it work? Q2B: How are regular people using this headset that measures brain performance? I can guess there would be an interest from the sports world? How does tracking how our brain processes visual stimuli help us? Q2C: How would the headset help our first responders? Q3: I became interested in Alzheimer's Prevention strategies around the time of the Pandemic, and have focused a few episodes on this topic. I even took my husband to Dr. Daniel Amen's clinics[ii] to get our brain scanned to see if either of us showed signs of any disease, since I know that our brain health is what would drive our future success. Not everyone can get a SPECT image brain scan, (they are expensive and not covered by insurance). Tell me how most people gain access to your headset. The FourQ Curve The core of the security you are using to access this page is probably provided with Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), and where a session key is created through ECDH (Elliptic Curve Diffie Hellman). While there are a number of curves we can use, such as NIST P-256, Curve 25519 (as used in Tor) and Secp256k1 (as used with Bitcoin), there are some doubts about their security and their performance. And so Microsoft Research has produced the FourQ curve and which has 128-bit security. It is open source and runs efficiently on a number of platforms. The Mersenne Twister Another application of Mersenne primes is in the implementation of a random number generation and is known as the Mersenne twist. A typical exponent value used is 19,937 (2²¹⁹⁹³⁷-1). Overall, PRNGs are deterministic and periodic, but the core strength of the Twister method is the pseudo sequence is unlikely to repeat with 2¹⁹⁹³⁷-1 random numbers: Overall the method uses sequential states, and where it should not be reasonably possible to know the next state from the current state. But some researchers have shown that “sparse” states can exist, and where there are very few ones or very few zeros, the next state will also be sparse. The method has been criticized for using up so many bits (19,937) for the states, and that for security a state value of 256 bits would still be enough, but have a strong effect on the overall performance of the method. Jeff Snipes' experience, during the Hoffman Process and after, shines a beautiful light on why we call this podcast, Love's Everyday Radius. As a result of doing the Process, love's extension and enlargement into the world can be unlimited in possibility and scope. Jeff's story is one vivid example of this. I was joined by the inspirational Andrew Wilkinson, founder of Tiny; he started product and branding agency Meta Lab in 2006 and was responsible for some of our most-loved and used companies such as Slack, UberEats, Coinbase, Pinterest and Headspace, to name a few. He then used MetaLab's profits to purchase other companies that have solid revenues, are designed well, have a great culture, and are profitable, which he knew he could rocket ship. Tiny now owns circa 30 companies, the likes of designer platform dribbble and the largest remote work community in the world, WeWork Remotely. Tiny has never relied on outside funding until recently where it launched a $150m fund to buy more businesses and for their own company WeCommerce, which has raised $60m, which is now on the Canadian stock exchange with a market cap of circa $1bn - WeCommerce buys and builds businesses that sit solely on the Shopify ecosystem. We listened to the pitch from Will, founder of Circl, which is looking to bring the concept of social betting to the masses. The concept being a group of friends form a Circl, put money in the pot then dependent on what happens in a sports match, the pot moves around the Circl...eg. A throw in, the pot moves clockwise two steps, a red card the pot moves anti-clockwise 4 steps etc...whoever has the pot at the end of the match takes it all. Circl is looking to bring the fun back into betting and make it a social activity, rather than something that's done in isolation and in excess. Een mogelijk aanstaande ecologische crisis dwingt organisaties en mensen om het denken, doen en laten te onderzoeken en nieuwe oplossingen te vinden voor oude problemen. Het goede nieuws is dat als wij mensen het probleem zijn, wij ook de oplossing zijn. Tijdens dit college neemt Ruud Veltenaar de deelnemers op een expeditie naar de aandienende toekomst en deelt hij zijn visie en oplossingen hoe we een wereld kunnen creëren waarnaar we allemaal verlangen onder het motto: Doing Good (creëren van financiële, sociale en ecologische waarde) resulteert in Doing Well (geld verdienen).

Heute geht es ums Bauen. Errichtung und Betrieb unserer gebauten Umwelt sind für etwa 40% der Treibhausgas-Emissionen und 40% des Energieverbrauchs verantwortlich. Außerdem gehen etwa 50% unseres weltweiten Materialbedarfs und 50% unseres Abfallaufkommens auf ihr Konto. Wir fangen bei einem einzelnen Gebäude an. Es steht in Amsterdam, direkt am Nahverkehrsknoten Amsterdam Zuid. Und gehört einer Bank. Soweit so normal. Alles andere ist nicht ganz so gewöhnlich. 2017 fertiggestellt, ist es ein zirkuläres Gebäude. Als solches ist es zwar nicht einzigartig, aber doch ein Pionierbau. Schon der Name ist Programm - CIRCL. Kein Schreibfehler. Auf das “E” am Ende hat man einfach verzichtet, um Überflüssiges einzusparen. Es hat einen Veranstaltungsbereich im Keller. Ein öffentliches Restaurant, das ohne Kühlräume auskommt und vorwiegend mit geretteten Lebensmitteln arbeitet. Und es gibt in der oberen Etage ein paar Büros für die Mitarbeiter der Verwaltung. Met in deze editie: Bart Bossink van VU Amsterdam De afgelopen 25 jaar brak professor Bart Bossink zich het hoofd over de vraag op welke wijze duurzame winstgevendheid het zou kunnen gaan winnen van platgeslagen winst-denken. Inmiddels heeft hij antwoorden en deelt deze met politici, ondernemers, managers, onderzoekers, studenten; eigenlijk met iedereen die het wil horen. Want wie nieuwsgierig is, kennis opdoet en wil luisteren, kan daarna de stap zetten naar duurzaam handelen en deelnemen in de grootste verandering van deze tijd: de duurzame innovatie revolutie. Voorbeelden hiervan zijn een toenemende integratie van het Triple Bottom line (People-Planet-Profit) denken in reeds bestaande bedrijven (bijvoorbeeld DSM, Unilever) en in nieuwe bedrijven (bijvoorbeeld Car2Go, Vandebron). Volgens Bart Bossink is het nieuwe tijdperk al lang begonnen en nog zeker niet ten einde.

In de 21e eeuw wint de transitie naar een duurzame, inclusieve en circulaire economie onmiskenbaar aan momentum. Wereldwijd incorpereren overheden en bedrijven duurzame doelstellingen en de SDG’s in hun beleid en strategieën. Belastingen spelen een bepalende rol in deze transitie, want zij zijn immers de spelregels voor financiële incentives. Helaas zijn huidige belasting systemen ontworpen voor de conventionele en lineaire economie: een ‘take-make-waste’ systeem waar we juist vanaf willen. ‘Tax as a Force for Good’ laat zien hoe belastingen een ‘boost’ kunnen geven aan de SDG’s en circulaire economie, in plaats van ze tegen te werken.

Tijdens het slot-event van The Green Quest vertelde Petran van Heel, sector banker bouw van ABN AMRO over de totstandkoming van het circulaire pand aan de Zuidas Circl, de geleerde lessen, en de circulaire ambities van de bank.

Tijdens het slot-event van The Green Quest gaat circulair visionair en architect Thomas Rau in op de grootste valkuilen van de veertig genomineerde deelnemers. Hoe vind je met je visionaire plan bijvoorbeeld aansluiting bij conservatieve marktpartijen? Live vanuit Circl op de Zuid-as.

Tijdens het slotevent van The Green Quest in Circl aan de Zuidas werden de winnaars van The green Quest bekend gemaakt. In de zomer van 2018 meldden 140 bedrijven hun innovaties aan. Een jury o.l.v. Jacqueline Cramer selecteerde 40 bedrijven die hun innovatie live bij Harm Edens op BNR Nieuwsradio mochten toelichten. Thomas Rau verzorgde een keynote. Daarna werden de winnaars van The Green Quest Award, de Publieksprijs en De Engie Prijs bekend gemaakt.

In de nieuwste uitzending van NieuwBestuur Dutch Circular Leadership op New Business Radio stonden de toezichthouders centraal. Glenn van der Burg en Mildred Hofkes ontvingen in de studio Inge Brakman en Hélène Vletter - van Dort! In de negende aflevering stonden de toezichthouders centraal. Te gast waren Inge Brakman, Commissaris bij Funda, Shell Nederland en DSM Nederland, Voorzitter Monitoring Commissie Banken, Bestuurslid Persvrijheidsfonds en Voorzitter RvT bij het Rode Kruis; en Helene Vletter - van Dort, Hoogleraar Financial Law & Governance, Commissaris bij Intertrust en Commissaris bij NN Group. Gast: Constant Dullaart, conceptueel kunstenaar. Constant Dullaart heeft het internet en de online media als zijn werkterrein gekozen. Het leeuwendeel van zijn werk is dan ook alleen daar te vinden maar hij maakt in het verlengde daarvan ook fysiek beeldend werk zoals ‘Empty gesture' (2016) dat nu te zien is in de collectie-presentatie ‘Natural' constructions in Circl.Art, de kunstruimte van ABN Amro. Een ander voorbeeld is het beeld dat bovenaan deze aankondiging is geplaatst: ‘PVA Formation (Flag, provider side)' dat volledig is opgebouwd uit simkaarten. Robert van Altena ontmoet Dullaart in het Westerpark in Amsterdam voor een gesprek over o.a. zijn leger van vele duizenden Instagram-accounts en zijn morele aarzeling deze in te zetten. De kunstenaar permitteert zich in dat opzicht minder vrijheden dan de commerciële partijen op het netwerk. Is de kunstenaar ook activist? Dullaart zelf spreekt van participatorische antropologie. “Ik schrijf soms gedichten op publieke Instagram-accounts, dus bijvoorbeeld op de Instagram-account van de European Council. Ik vind het heel raar dat de European Council een Instagram-profiel heeft. Op een Amerikaans medium zijn ze dus op zoek naar een soort validatie voor het bestaan van de Europese Raad. Dat vind ik problematisch. Dat beïnvloedt de manier waarop je communiceert. Ik vind dat eigenlijk zo obsceen dat ik het leuk vond om daar een gedicht over te schrijven en zo'n heel leger [van instagram-accounts] in te zetten om daar gedichten te plaatsen. Een regel wordt dan uitgesproken door één account, en een volgende regel wordt uitgesproken door een volgend account —dat zijn allemaal nep-accounts. Dus wanneer je naar die foto's gaat dan zie je honderd ‘comments' en wanneer je die achter elkaar leest dan zie je dat ze allemaal rijmen en eenzelfde soort cadans hebben, dan zie je dat er een gedicht ontstaat wat door honderd mensen is uitgesproken maar waar één auteur achter schuilt. ABN AMRO wil dat in 2023 al het vastgoed in eigen gebruik een energielabel A scoort. De bank geeft het voorbeeld met het nieuwe circulaire gebouw Circl, dat sinds kort op de Zuidas staat. Ook ontwikkelde de bank een investeringstool, waarmee klanten kunnen zien hoe duurzaam een pand is.
