Let's Talk about the holidays and why I am not the biggest fan of them. Let's talk about family, Pageants and my new title of Mr. Winter Holiday!
Join James and Tage this week as they are joined by Teresa and Vern as they discuss their biggest Disney disappointment, or Disnappointment, what they want to check off next on their Disney bucket list, how they would feel if the Haunted Mansion Holiday was only available during the winter holiday, and what they think Disney should do to upgrade or replace the Fantasyland dark rides. Support the podcast by going to https://www.thehubcrawl.com/support. Maybe your support will go towards vern's next churro. Question 1: What has been your biggest Disney disappointment? Question 2: What is the next thing you would like to check off your Disney bucket list? Question 3: With all the hubbub this month about wrong dates on Haunted Mansion Holiday, how would you feel it it only ran as a winter holiday attraction — and not in Spooky Season? Question 4: As Disneyland continues to raise the bar on how attractions can be done, and the rides themselves keep becoming more and more thrilling, do you foresee a future where the Fantasyland dark rides will be either upgraded or just aged out and replaced? Bonus Question: Whats a “free” or “included with entry” item that you have really enjoyed receiving from Disney?

We know what happens to the nice kids on Christmas Day, but what about the naughty ones? This year on the Winter Holiday Special from CBS News Radio, host Gil Gross speaks with Jeff Belanger, author of The Fright Before Christmas about Santa's not-so-jolly counterparts in Christmas traditions around the world. Then, Brian Earl, host of The Christmas Past podcast shares the amusing, and sometimes odd, origins of our most beloved holiday traditions. Finally, Medievalist, Professor Sarah Peverley sheds some light on Christmas celebrations during the Dark Ages.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
For just the fifth time in more than 100 years, Christmas and the first day of Hanukkah are on the same day. Host Gil Gross talks with social media superstar Sal Litvak, the Accidental Talmudist and author of Let My People Laugh, who explains the history and traditions of the Festival of Lights. Then, food historian Adrian Miller, The Soul Food Scholar, shares the cultural import of global cuisine in Kwanzaa and other winter holidays.Next, Gil Gross counts down the top-ten selling Christmas records of all time, providing the fascinating and little-known backstories to each. Finally, journalist José Ignacio Castañeda discusses the tradition of La Dia de los Reyes, which is celebrated across all of the hemispheres of the world on the Feast of the Epiphany.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Celebrated astronomer Andy Fraknoi tells host Gil Gross about the stunning visuals we will see when searching the night sky for Santa's sleigh. Then, one of the most beloved songs of the season, The Christmas Song composed by Mel Torme, has a fascinating origin story. As we approach the centennial of Torme's birth and the eightieth anniversary of the song's recording, singer and song stylist James Torme, Mel's son, reveals the little known account of how the song came to be and the over-sized impact it had on our culture. Finally, the Emmy-Award winning host of MInd Your Manners Sara Jane Ho shares with Gil important etiquette tips on gift-giving and gift-receiving.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Welcome to episode 113 with Jennifer Pepito and special guest Cleere Cherry Reeves of Cleerely Stated. Cleere and Jennifer talk about declarations, intentional living, creating order, and stewarding the internal atmosphere of our home. This is all about living with margin, ignoring pressures, or could haves or should haves, and prioritising connection over perfection. Our minds and emotions depend on our words and the stories we allow ourselves to meditate on. We must change our words and our world to better represent the truth of who God says we are and His goodness in our present situation, and He offers us the gift of change through His grace and healing. Growing up, we would transition from the regular homeschool schedule during December and move towards crafting, Christmas Cookie exchanges, nature walks, and time reading together as a family. We made clay decorations, popcorn balls, and cranberry garlands. The wonderful thing about creativity and a creative Christmas is it isn't age or time-dependent. You can make orange garlands with your adult children, bath salts with your grandkids, and clay ornaments with your children. "Children are born persons." Charlotte Mason Jennifer has been parenting since the 90s, and she and Scott's research and parenting styles have run the gamut over their 7 children and three decades. The one thing consistent from the early days of strict parenting to more permissive parenting is to focus on building character and connection. One thing that was consistent across all those years and styles of parenting. It was their intense love for their children and their enjoyment of each one as a person. The one thing they learned over all those years is that there is no formula for parenting. Still, there is so much we can learn and be encouraged in. Amy Nyvall, a coach with Connected Families, joins Jennifer Pepito to talk about parenting through connection and attunement without sacrificing standards. This is one of our longer podcasts because the topic and conversation were just that good. We hope you enjoy episode 111 and walk away with more ideas to connect with your children this season. Many of my adult friends have an ambivalent relationship with the Christmas season. Why is that? It's often because their mothers were stressed and anxious about achieving a "perfect Christmas." In a recent discussion, Diane Boden, the creator of the Minimalist Mom's Podcast, joined Jennifer Pepito to talk about how to create a minimalist Christmas. The focus is on planning, creating meaningful moments for your family, and choosing what brings you joy and connection. During the holiday season, there are numerous external pressures—from the vast selection of Christmas decorations at stores like Target to expectations from family and the community. It's easy to say yes to everything, buy more than you need, or feel guilty about your actions. Don't let yourself fall into that trap. Avoid letting the pursuit of the "perfect holiday season" turn you into a frazzled mom. Instead, aim for simplicity so your children aren't left wishing for more relaxed times and a happier mom. The wonderful Barb Roose, author of Stronger than Stress: 10 Spiritual Practices to Win the Battle of Overwhelm, joins Jennifer Pepito for episode 107. This hard-hitting episode is all about stress! It is so timely to transition into the holiday season. Barb is full of profound wisdom and helpful insight on stress, what it is, what it isn't, and how to deal with it. As mothers, we can be conduits of Christ-centred peace or agents of chaos. This episode is for you if you are struggling with the latter or want to be more of the former. With Winter and Winter Holidays around the corner, check out the Peaceful Press resources and blogs for good literature, engaging ways to celebrate, and the Four-week Autumn Guide. Autumn Guide, Christmas Guide Volume 1 and Volume 2 In this episode– If you, as a mother, are under chronic stress, ask yourself if you are trying to be everything to everyone and then start stepping back from that place because only God can fill that place. Stress is not bad; it is a gift from God to know when we are too deep. Don't let lies or the fruit of stress dictate how you view your children. Whimsy can diffuse a stressful situation quickly. We cannot live to do the will of our children and our husbands, nor can we act as though keeping them safe and happy is our job. Sometimes, in the nitty gritty of parenting, we get so focused on what isn't happening, or we focus on our current "reality" rather than the promises of God. This can cause us to spiral into fear, control, panic, and reactionary decision-making. Our children are the actual sufferers when we allow this spiral to happen. What would happen if, instead, we started to step back in those moments and ask God to show us what he is doing or asked him for advice on how to deal with or respond to a learning struggle, a child with hard-to-manage emotions, or any one of the plethora of problems that come up in life? What if we learned to tune in and attach to our children The wonderful Deb Weakly, creator of Help Club for Moms, joins Jennifer to talk about how big God is, his faithfulness, and the process of trusting him in our parenting and mothering story. There is so much hope in this episode, and we hope that wherever you are in your parenting journey, you are blessed by this conversation. Welcome to episode 105 of the Restoration Home Podcast. What a conversation we have for you today. We had the honour of hosting Katy Faust of the "Them Before Us" movement. She comes on with heart-hitting facts about the cost of divorce, the crisis in a divorce generation, and the irreplaceable role of fathers. Today, 50% of divorces are over low-level conflicts that build, and the long-term cost of a self-serving "happiness' decision is our children's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Katy and Jennifer offer advice on better communicating with our husbands, the point of fathers, and the importance of putting our children first in every decision. This great conversation is made possible by the Peaceful Press! With Winter and Winter Holidays around the corner, check out the Peaceful Press resources and blogs for good literature, engaging ways to celebrate, and the Peaceful Press four-week Autumn Guide. Autumn Guide, Christmas Guide Volume 1 and Volume 2 In this episode– Fathers and mothers each bring unique childrearing traits to the table; one is not better than the other, and neither is replaceable. Children must come before adults in our policies, beliefs, and choices. Love your children by respecting their father and choosing the narrative you spin about him carefully. It is children who bear the lifetime cost of a divorce, and step-parents rarely have your child's best interest at heart. We need to get serious about sustaining marriages in the church and honouring fathers' unique and vital role. We are delighted to welcome Sally Clarkson back to the Restoration Home Podcast! She is a dear friend and our first repeat guest on the podcast. She has recently published a new book, Well Lived: Shaping a Legacy of Gratitude and Grace. Her newest book is a memoir and an inspiration to mothers young and old, new and veteran. She joins Jennifer to talk about living a life of generosity and faithfulness. We often live our lives going from goal post to goal post, waiting until we've "arrived" or we're "done". However, as wives and mothers of faith, the journey is life itself, and we're called to run well until the run is complete. Sally Clarkson's gentleness and wisdom, shared through her personal stories, is a wonderful encouragement, and we are so excited to offer this episode to our community. Episode sponsored by the Peaceful Press! Model your motherhood after women of character. We need to plant the flag in our lives for what we believe and know to be accurate and hold fast, even when our circumstances or emotions aren't matching. You have the agency and capacity to build an incredible life. You are not the victim of your life. It is a more fulfilling way to live when we choose to grow into being like God.
