For Trui Hanoulle it started as an interest in going places and learning about people. Over the past two decades what followed became a life's work; to gather stories about women who dare to move even in the face of prejudice, stereotypes, and other elements of gender barriers. Today on the podcast Trui joins me to talk about her mission and what she has seen and learned from the back of a motorcycle across continents and within cultures that many of us do not often hear from. She has also been kind enough to share photos of her project “Move She Does” which you can see here or in your podcast app as the episode plays.

Mayor Steve Noble: "We can't prevent hate crimes" This week in La Voz en Breve, journalist Mariel Fiori has a show on business and well-being. She spoke with the Mayor of the City of Kingston, Steve Noble about the latest news from the city, such as the meeting this Wednesday at Everette Hodge from 5-7 pm to discuss the Franklin Street renovation project, with Spanish interpretation. The mayor also invites city businesses to say what they need to grow and recover from the pandemic, as the city has $17 million of federal stimulus to invest in businesses. There will be two meetings in late October, for Hispanic businesses. One of the main topics of today's interview had to do with the third act of vandalism against a poster that Radio Kingston has at a bus stop where the phrase: We believe that black lives matter was crossed out with red paint, for the third time. The radio sent letters to the mayor, city police chief and Ulster County District Attorney on all three occasions asking for something to be done about it. The mayor said that the three of them will come to the radio to make a special program to discuss this type of crime and send a message saying that these crimes are not tolerated. When asked what is being done specifically to prevent these types of crimes (which according to Noble also unfortunately occur in all parts of the city, uptown, midtown and downtown), he said that "we cannot prevent crimes, people who have hatred are going to commit hate crimes." He also said that by January 1 more video cameras are expected to be installed in hot spots in the city, but he did not know if there would be one at the bus stop in question. In her column Let's Talk about Economics, Professor Martha Tepepa from the Levy Institute of Economics at Bard College spoke about the importance of immigrant women in the economy and about a recently released book, Women Who Dare and Overcome Limits, Inspirational Stories In difficult Times.

Beverly Jenkins never planned to be an Author. Growing up during the Civil Rights Movement, her mother passed along a love of books and history and she decided to become a librarian. In this episode, she talks about the journey from first-time author to becoming the primer writer of historical Black fiction in the United States with 49 books in an industry that rejected her. Beverly also shares intimate moments of her past, her process, and why she's rooting for women writers to get off the sidelines and just "publish your damn book”. TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS EPISODE: Beverly didn't plan on being an author. Beverly's mother passed along her love of history and reading to her at a very young age. Black history was very important to Beverly's great grandfather on her Mother's side which can now be seen in her books. During Beverly's childhood, libraries were still segregated. African American authors were never shelved in with the rest of the collection. When Beverly first started writing, Black characters were not prevalent in romance or history stories. There was also no place to get published as a Black author in these genres until the 1990s. Plotters vs. Pantsers Beverly's writing process The point that Beverly knew she could write. How and why she started her first book. Beverly has written 49 books in her lifetime, typically in the Historical Romance genre. What is a sweet romance? How Beverly handled the rejections she faced in the publishing industry. How Beverly found her editor. How the portrayal of strong and determined Black women has changed in the model in the romance genre. Black women's three gifts and how Beverly highlights these in her heroines. Beverly's newest book Wild Rain and why her character came to be. Beverly's new Women Who Dare series. How Beverly views feminine leadership. If you have the writing bug, it's not going anywhere. It's up to you to decide that you're strong enough and brave enough to pursue your dream.

Pura vida! This new episode goes live while I’m leading the WOMEN WHO DARE retreat in Costa Rica. I’m here with several inspiring clients, including Beth Sears who is our guest today. Beth was brought up with very traditional beliefs about business and how her life “should” be. She was expected to have a high-powered career, be the perfect wife and mother, and she started on that path by going to law school. After having her first child, she decided that being a lawyer was not the right path for her, and she instead took on the “Martha Stewart role” of her home. Keeping the perfect home and filling so many roles became unsustainable. In Beth’s quest to be perfect, she was still not fulfilled. Beth is now a certified holistic health coach who draws on her wisdom of yoga and Reiki to help women who are in the menopausal phase in their lives to harness this natural process and feel strong in their mind, body and spirit. Beth led a Reiki Circle here in Costa Rica and it was pure magic! Excited for you to tune in to this conversation. Tune in to discover: How Beth was able to move past the pressures of what her life should look like The power of changing directions The lessons she learned from the death of her mother and mother-in-law Why going sober was the best decision for her The keys to feeling stronger   About Our Guest: Beth Sears a certified holistic health coach trained by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She’s a yoga teacher (RYT-200) and an NASM-personal trainer, and has been personally trained by Gabby Bernstein of Spirit Junkie fame to teach the principles of her book May Cause Miracles. Beth is passionate about living a healthy, balanced life full of joy and sharing her sometimes messy, but always real, journey through life. Her passion is empowering women to lead big, bold lives without apology and helping them find adventure in every day while thriving in their power and gifts. xoJENNY P.S. Sixty percent of our clothing ends up in the trash within a year of it being made. Our landfills are filling up, and the countries we rely on to house our trash are refusing it. In this frank conversation, Harper’s BAZAAR’s Digital Features Director, Olivia Fleming, and the founder of New Standard Institute, Maxine Bedat, call in to Los Angeles to speak with Linda Greer, creator of the NRDC’s Clean By Design Program, to discuss the ugly truths behind our beautiful clothing. Why are there so many chemicals used to make our clothes? Are products made from recycled plastic bottles really good for the environment? How can we get the brands we love to do better? Please join the call to action at https://www.newstandardinstitute.org/sign-up Dare I Say is a podcast from HarpersBAZAAR.com that sits in on unfiltered conversations between the most influential women of our time—those daring to make the difference we deserve.

New York produces 12,000 tons of waste every day. Out of that 12,000 tons, only 17 percent gets recycled. Soon, we will have more plastic than fish in our oceans. In this no-nonsense conversation, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinosa, and west~bourne founder Camilla Marcus, discuss solutions small and large to plastic pollution. Who is responsible for weaning society off its toxic addiction to plastic? And who should bear the brunt of regulation: consumers, corporations, restaurants, or manufacturers? Who were those brave women who cornered Senator Flake in the elevator? Ana Maria Archila and Maria Gallagher became famous overnight for sharing a deep, personal secret on national television. In the days and months that followed, the duo became targets of abusive messages and violent threats, highlighting a culture that is founded on keeping women quiet. For Maria, who is just 23 years old, she had never said the term “sexually assaulted” out loud. For Ana Maria, the moment was about reclaiming her shame; it was an example of how women across the country are bringing democracy alive—in hallways, in coffee shops, in airports, and in elevators. In an emotional and poignant conversation, the pair sit down to discuss why it is so important to listen to survivors, and how the conversation around consent needs an overhaul. This is Dare I Say, the podcast from HarpersBAZAAR.com, where we sit in on unfiltered conversations between the most influential women of our time—those daring to make the difference we deserve Trigger warning: This episode includes conversations about sexual assault.

The actress and activist sits down with Laverne Cox for an intimate discussion about intersectional feminism, the bonds that unite us, and the silences that break us, in a time when anti-trans legislation is proliferating and civil rights are under attack. From Texas to D.C. to Los Angeles, we traveled across the country to sit down with activists who seek the truth, leaders who speak truth to power, and role models who encourage us to live our truth, for honest conversations we’d otherwise never be privy to. Whether it’s dissecting the reality behind LGBTQIA rights with Laverne Cox and Rosario Dawson, or delving into the unapologetic lack of diversity in the fashion industry with models Candice Huffine and Precious Lee, our guests say what others don’t dare to. Transcript: Olivia Wilde This is Dare I Say, a podcast from Harper’s Bazaar, where we sit in on unfiltered conversations between the most influential women of our time: those daring to make the difference we deserve. I’m your host, Olivia Wilde. I got involved in this project because I’ve personally learned the most from listening to seasoned activists talk about their experiences. Only by stepping outside our echo chambers can we collectively become more effective agents of change. We become more powerful when we connect. We are women who dare.
