Join Karaleigh in an interview with the amazing Becca Rae Eagle. In this episode, we talk about how writing and speaking are a portal to the soul, the importance of being vulnerable, and why telling your story can change the world. Becca Rae Eagle, M.S.Ed.,pen name Noelle Tryst, is a wife, mom to a college age son, avid hiker, podcast host of The Podcast: Sacred Penning™: Somatic Meditative Journaling, and a teacher since 2000. Becca currently teaches third grade at a private school in her community. She is an empath, HSP, intuitive, mental health advocate, woman of Faith, and a soul tender. She is a proud staff writer for Women Who Podcast Magazine and a Transformative Soul Journaling Practitioner. Becca's signature Sacred Penning™ Somatic Meditative Journaling method helps women with transformative writing experiences for body, mind, and spirit. Becca offers customized journaling retreats for individuals, private groups, corporate organizations, and community events. Favorite takeaways: 1. The only person you actually need permission from is yourself. 2. Being vulnerable is one of the most important tools of resiliency. 3. When you hear somebody else talking about what lights them up, it lights you up in turn. That light spreads- it's contagious. You will feel their energy and it will inspire you to go do what lights you up. That's how we light the world on fire in the best possible way- by sharing our passions. 4. Shame thrives in secrecy. It's the only thing we can't come to terms with because it's not real, it's unhelpful, it's such an unnecessary emotion- it's all based in lies. It's based in the lie that you have to be perfect, that you have to be not you in order to be successful, in order to be accepted, when the actual truth is that you are so beautifully and perfectly human, exactly as you are, and you don't have to squeeze yourself into that box that doesn't exist. 5. You need to take care of the person behind the passion. It's ok to just ground yourself and shower yourself with love. Know that people are there for you, know that it's ok to tell your story because it gives somebody else the strength and the bravery to tell their own. 6. When we can find appreciation in the contrast we start to grow. It's never too late to grow. It's never too late to bloom. 7. Make sure you schedule something in every day for yourself. Make a commitment to you- whatever your favorite form of self care is. Don't go to bed at night before checking that off in your mind. Make sure you give yourself that time because you won't regret it. Be sure to follow Becca on FB and IG @BeccaRaeEagle. The guest joining me today, Kathy Barron, is a fellow Bay Area resident and the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of the Women Who Podcast Magazine, a publication that celebrates independent women podcasters from all over the world. I'm delighted to have recently discovered this online publication, especially since Kathy and her team just celebrated their second year in publication! Women Who Podcast magazine is a fantastic place to discover new podcasts, and podcasters and Kathy strives for it to be a forum for fans and hosts to reach out to one another for support, collaboration, and inspiration. Her hope is that together they can fulfill the vision she has for a shared future, including scholarships, mentorships, annual conferences and an expanded learning community. As Kathy's mission is to lift up independent women podcast voices and give them the accolades they deserve. She may know a thing or two about what that would mean to women podcaster's, given she has been the host and producer of the Women Who Sarcast podcast since its launch in April of 2018. The Women Who Sarcast podcast aims to "change the misconception of sarcasm.” Something we definitely be chatt about in this episode. Hey there, fabulous folks! Today in the latest episode of the "Fabulous Over Fifty" podcast host Jen Hardy chats with an awesome guest, Kathy Barron - Founder and editor-in-chief of "Women Who Podcast" Magazine, about all things podcasting, and she's seriously inspiring. There's so much to learn from Kathy in this episode, from the importance of knowing your why before starting a podcast to how to combat "podfade" (when you get burnt out on producing content). We also got some great tips on how to start a successful podcast without breaking the bank - it turns out you don't need the fanciest equipment to get started. But perhaps the most valuable lesson we learned was about the power of community. And the idea that if we see a need, we can jump in and create the solution, just like Kathy did when she started "Women Who Podcast" magazine! Jen stresses the importance of women supporting one another in podcasting and beyond, because, isn't it just time? So, if you're thinking of starting a podcast or are simply a fan of great content produced by awesome women, be sure to check out this episode of "Fabulous Over Fifty." You won't be disappointed! Do you know what's hiding in your mattress? It might be more than you think! We spend up to one-third of our lives on our mattress, so this is a topic I really wanted to talk about on the podcast, and today's expert guest has a lot of good information to share. Barry A. Cik is founder and Technical Director of Naturepedic, a manufacturer of award-winning certified organic mattresses. His devotion to the organic industry is the natural result of his lifelong interest in preserving the environment, not only for us, but for all future generations as well. A board-certified environmental engineer, Barry combines his passion for improving our quality of life with the technical knowledge to do so. Barry is an advocate for legislative reform, and was invited to testify in Washington, D.C. as part of a congressional subcommittee exploring chemical reform. Barry is also a frequent speaker and thought leader, speaking before scientific, consumer, political and business audiences on the benefits of sustainable product design. His background in environmental engineering led Barry to chart his own successful entrepreneurial course for many years. When shopping for his first grandchild's crib mattress, he was troubled to discover the state of the baby mattress industry. From that moment, Barry was inspired and determined to create mattress products that were safer and healthier for every child. Working in tandem with his sons, Barry established Naturepedic in 2003. Barry continues to work hard, both for the parents that depend on Naturepedic's No-Compromise approach to safer sleep and for the generations that will inherit the sustainability movement. He believes in a healthier world without harmful chemicals, environmental toxins, or destructive business practices. I admit, this is something that I didn't give much thought to before speaking with Barry, but what he revealed completely changed the way I think about healthy sleep, and I hope it does for you too! We're happy to be a special affiliate of Naturepedic, and happy to endorse their products! You can learn more about Naturepedic, and shop now by clicking HERE! In the words of today's guest, anything can be painted, and she is here to today to share how this is possible in your world too! Shelly Denning is an Interior Decorative Painter who works with homeowners, decorators and designers to create unique finishes for walls, floors, ceilings and furniture. Shelly has been painting for over 30 years, crafting techniques and designs for traditional and modern interiors. With a strong sense of color and texture, she works with custom tinted glazes used for techniques such as strie, linen crosshatch, faux bois, faux marble, plaster applications as well as stenciling and hand-painted murals. Shelly has an Associate's Degree in Interior Design, a BFA in Sculpture and a minor in Art History. Through School, she has taken many class in woodworking, metal working, printmaking and color theory and she is very comfortable around all sorts of power tools. Her success is attributed to a ‘can do' attitude, a bit of research and a love of getting her hands dirty! One might say that Shelly's painting career started as a young child when she set up a shop in her parent's garage. In reality, she turned her painting abilities into a business right before having her first child by finding old furniture, painting with fun designs to sell at local stores. At one of the stores a customer asked Shelly if she could paint walls, and the next thing she knew, she was traveling around NJ with a ladder strapped to the roof of her car. Mostly self-taught, Shelly has taken some classes and she is very well versed in anything paint, and you can view her portfolio on Instagram, @shellypaint. In this episode, Shelly and I talk about the possibilities (that you probably haven't even thought of in your home!) that exist using decorative paint applications. We hope this conversation inspires you and allows you to realize you absolutely can accomplish great things in your home, starting now, using paint! Are you part of my community on social media yet? It's been said that architecture is about trying to make the world a little more like our dreams, which is why I'm so excited today to bring you the perspective of a residential architect on home design and renovations projects! My special guest is Heidi Bolyard, an architect who has worked with more than 750 families to eliminate frustrations in their homes. Have you been afraid to use white in your home? Today's guest is the amazing Chrissie Rucker, founder of The White Company, who is here to share how white is both versatile and beautiful, along with the ways that you can approach using it in your home! Chrissie founded The White Company in 1994. Today the company, which began life as a small mail-order business, is one of the UK's most loved and trusted lifestyle brands. With more than 60 stores in the UK and Ireland, along with worldwide ecommerce, it specializes in a wide range of beautiful pieces for your home and family, predominantly in white. Today I have a special encore episode for you with Elizabeth Daniel, which was popular one that we received a lot of positive feedback about when it originally aired in June 2021! I saw Elizabeth featured on CBS Sunday Morning and I wanted to introduce her to you, as I think what she has to share is so interesting. As they say, one man's trash is another person's treasure, and in this episode, you'll learn how she is making it easy to incorporate vintage styles into your home! Elizabeth is a décor artist with an expansive education in multiple artistic styles. She has begun using decor as her latest medium, and Elizabeth's Facebook Group, Elizabeth Daniel Decor, is where she unveils her installations at 8 am every Friday. Using a delightful mix of thrifted, vintage finds and art, she sets up a dreamy home scene, with each one being vastly different from the last. Elizabeth then sells each piece inside the vignette in her group. I encourage you to check it out at https://www.facebook.com/groups/274145330092415! Elizabeth's philosophy really sparks something in me, and there are vintage items that we all love and can use in our current home. I hope after listening to this episode, you'll be inspired too, and discover why it really is ok to mix old with new! Want a fun way to level up your home quickly?? Today's episode is a very special one, as I recently had the opportunity to visit with Alycia Asai. Alycia is the host, researcher and producer of the weekly podcast Civics & Coffee. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in History from Sonoma State University where she is returning to pursue graduate work. She fell in love with history at a young age thanks to a teacher who pointed out the beautiful flaws found throughout our past. She believes history is fun and engaging – if told the right way. When not creating new episodes for the podcast she enjoys traveling with her husband, running to 90's hip hop, and planning her next Disneyland adventure. As far as her show is concerned, Civics & Coffee is a weekly United States history podcast where Alycia explores the people and events in our past, all in the time it takes to enjoy a cup of coffee. Episodes are released every Saturday and are generally less than 20 minutes each, unless she is featuring a guest. The show launched in August of 2020 and was recently featured in the Women Who Podcast Magazine for their anniversary issue.
Are you ready to learn my favorite mindset tool to reach your goals faster? This is one of the most powerful tools you'll ever learn, and in this episode, I'm so pleased to have my guest Aimee Greczmiel here to share her thoughts and expertise with us. Aimee is a former Fortune 500 VP who has taken her passion for mentoring and personal growth to help working parents reduce stress & overwhelm and experience more balance, presence, and ease in their personal and professional lives. Aimee guides parents to get clear on their desired outcomes, so they may leave a lasting legacy for their family and make an impact in their career. Aimee is an action-oriented mentor who has helped hundreds of individuals reach their goals, while overcoming personal and professional challenges. I think this is a great segway from my chat last week with Lynn Turcotte-Schuh about the “Supermom Syndrome.” Today, Aimee is really honing in on how as a corporate mom you can reach your goals and gain more balance by looking inward and having some more insight regarding your mindset. I hope you find this conversation with Aimee as valuable as I did! Want a fun way to level up your home quickly?? My accessory course is here for you! Alright Moms, I want you to hang up your capes for a minute as you listen to this episode! The “Supermom Syndrome” is a very real thing, and today's special guest is here to share her expertise on it and explain how default parenting, the mental load and mom shaming are holding women back, and what we can start to do about these things right now. Lynn Turcotte-Schuh is a Mentor, Speaker and Educator who supports Mamas in letting go of society's expectations and redefining their motherhood experience for themselves. She is the Founder of the Happy Mama Wellness Community, the place to be for Mamas who love their kids but aren't loving the day-to-day of motherhood. When Lynn isn't working with Mamas, you can find her with her wife and daughter on their 14-acre homestead; probably hanging out with her rabbits or chickens, getting dirty in the garden or leading a wicked awesome kitchen dance party. As rewarding as motherhood is, the day-to-day of it can be really hard. I think it's important for us to know that it's perfectly ok to talk about the challenges in motherhood, without feeling judgment or shame, which is why I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to share this conversation with Lynn today on the podcast. Have you ever stayed at a hotel, and you just wanted to bring it all home? I'm so excited to bring you Darcy Guttwein, who is the expert in bringing those great things that we all enjoy in hotels into our home, because I've always been a proponent of that! Darcy Guttwein is a seasoned world traveler with a passion for lifestyle improvement. She has spent over two decades designing at-home luxury lifestyle experiences that exemplify “Hotels to Home” living. Navigating the complex roles of entrepreneur, wife, mother, and philanthropist, she searched for a ready-made guide to enjoy an elevated lifestyle within the home, but in the absence of finding one, designed her own. Darcy looked no further than her fondness for luxury hotel stays to take the bones of a home and give it life – ultimately curating beloved hospitality experiences and creating a domicile that is a true haven. Her holistic lifestyle brand covers multiple facets of daily living and celebrates distinct personal tastes, allowing the approach to be customized and enjoyed across individual households. She resides in Colorado with her husband and two children, where they delight in blurring the lines between holiday and everyday living. I encourage you to try the strategies that Darcy shares today, and if you have found this information helpful, please let us know on Instagram, @hotelstohome and @jillkalmaninteriors. Today I'm bringing you an encore episode of one of my favorite interviews I've done since starting this podcast, with Brittney Levine! You may know Brittney as she is on tv all the time and does amazing style and shopping segments, and in June 2020 we did a whole episode on how to find your style. So many people come to me and are confused about style in their home, and I think often it's not that they don't know what it is, but they're afraid to step into it in their home. In this episode, Britt and I give you some great tips on how to tap into your own style and how to really feel comfortable doing what feels good to you. I hope you enjoy this episode, and you can follow Brittney on Instagram, @ brittneyhlevine, to see all the great things she does and to learn more about this amazing woman! From cocktails to mocktails, we have got you covered in this episode! Today we're talking all about liquor, the home bar and entertaining, and I am looking forward to you meeting today's guest who is here to share her expertise in this area with all of us. Megan Campbell started working in the alcohol industry in 2014, as a server in a dine-in movie theater in Scottsdale. After a year there she moved over to bartending where she truly fell in love with cocktails. Another year later and she found herself itching to grow further in the industry. A friend showed her Fire Station No.1, a new distillery in old town Peoria that was looking for someone to create their cocktail program. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to showcase her talents and learn a little more about alcohol while she was there. Megan had no idea how deeply it would affect her! During the 3 years she worked at the Fire Station she met the love of my life, made some of the best friends she's ever had, and of course, completely fell in love with the liquor industry and distilling. Nothing has ever felt as right as distilling did for Megan. After a few years, she once again found herself itching for growth, but this time with a bigger goal - business ownership. There isn't a huge distilling industry in Arizona and nobody in the United States was doing anything like what she had envisioned. Working for somebody else just did not feel like an option, so she started the long process of collecting funding, finding a location, and learning how to navigate the complex world of governmental regulations. Now they find themselves only months away from opening Turquoise Sky Custom Spirits in downtown Phoenix, AZ! My accessory course has finally launched! In this course I reveal my secrets, tips and tricks in a simple video course that's broken up into modules. This will give you the resources, solutions, and really quick wins at an affordable price – all with direction from me. Parenting is the hardest job in the world, but today's expert guest is here to give his interesting perspective and practical tips for raising our children in today's world, as a conscious and aware parent. Dr. Bob Saul has been guiding the physical, behavioral, and mental care of children for over 40 years. His Parental Awareness Threshold is a simple framework to actively parent with self-awareness, empathy, and compassion where children learn to build nurturing relationships as well as exhibit love and respect for others. I got so many great takeaways from this conversation with Dr. Saul, and there is always something new to learn about parenting. There's no instruction manual for how to be a parent, but I believe the advice and experiences shared by Dr. Saul today will help so many parents who tune in to listen to this episode! I am going to be gushing about this one for a long time!!!For this week's discussion I talked with Natalie Boero about Kimberly Dark's Fat, Pretty and Soon to Be Old. Natalie wrote the article about me that was recently in Women Who Podcast Magazine and I asked her if she wanted to spend some time with me on this show. If you've been in body liberation circles for a bit, you will recognize Natalie as the author of Killer Fat (which normally always gets a reference in most current body acceptance books), so needless to say I am a little excited she came on.
