Worship is why we are here. When God made us, he created us in his image to worship him. Yet, fallen in Adam, we will not worship God rightly unless God makes us worship him rightly.Indeed, this is a major point in Genesis 4. The chapter begins with worship, as Adam's children bring sacrifices to God. And the chapter ends with worship, as Seth calls upon the name of the Lord. And in between, the story of Cain's family line is also about worship . . . if we have eyes to see. This Sunday, we will see how Cain's city-building project is one that exalts the glory of man, not the glory of God. Likewise, the music that fills Genesis 4:17–24 is a testimony to the way humans will sing praise to what they love most. And unless and until God intervenes and gives them a new song, they will sing praises to themselves about themselves.Even for the church of Jesus Christ, we need the grace of God and the truth of his Spirit to lead us to worship God rightly and righteously. And more, we need the Word of God to teach how we are to worship God. Wonderfully, we have already been taught that worship centers on Jesus Christ and is empowered by the Spirit of Truth. Because Father has given us the Son and the Spirit, we can gather in confidence that our praises will be accepted and pleasing to him. And in that confidence, we will gather for worship on Sunday. To prepare for Sunday, please read Genesis 4, Psalm 33, and John 4. These passages come together to teach how to worship God truly. And on Sunday, as the Lord allows, I will look forward to gathering with you to do just that. For His Glory and your joy in Jesus,Pastor David--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Discussion & Response Questions (Genesis 4:17 – 26)What have we seen so far in Genesis 4? How does the place of the story inform the context? What about the people (i.e., the two seeds)?Where does Genesis 4:17–24 take place? How does that inform our understanding of the passage? What does the building of a city indicate? In Scripture, who is renowned for building cities (see Gen. 10:11; 11:4–8; Exod. 1:11; Num. 13:22)? Who is renowned for building altars (Gen. 8:20; Gen. 12:7–8; 22:9; 26:5; 35:7; Exod. 17:5; 24:4)?If city-building is an evidence of unbelief, what do we discover about the other products invented / created in Genesis 4?What does the building of a city suggest about the people in Cain's family? What do their names indicate? What is the story of Lamech? In what ways does this serve as a warning to us?Compare the teaching of Jesus in relationship to Lamech (Matt 18:21-22). What do you notice? What is the Christian ethic when it comes to revenge and justice? Consider Romans 12:17-13:4.The passage finishes with a return to Adam, Eve, and Seth. What does it mean to call upon the name of the Lord? And how does the wickedness of Lamech relate? What do we learn about worship in Genesis 4? And how should we prioritize our lives accordingly? What are you building? And where are you putting your trust?
Did you know that 30% of teen boys use unhealthy techniques to control their weight? This includes skipping meals, vomiting, and even taking laxatives. For parents with boys in this category, we wish there were something like 3 simple steps to help our sons escape the downward spiral of self-image and self-esteem problems. But it's usually not that easy. In addition to consulting doctors for help, here's something else you should do. Remind your son that God makes no mistakes. We are His workmanship—wonderfully created in His image. To help emphasize this fact, study the Bible with your son to learn of God's care and compassion for us all. As you invest time and attention in your son, he will realize how valued and loved he really is.For more encouragement and parenting advice, visit Trail Life USA or RaisingGodlyBoys.com.

The biblical story of Jesus gave a mission statement of opening the eyes of the blind and setting captives free. The captivity Jesus saw and condemned in his story more than all else? The bondage of religious law vs connect to god, neighbor and self. Nowhere did he condemn the clothing, presentation or loves of another person. So how it is that Christianity in our age has come to me "don't run like a girl, don't throw like a girl, don't dress like one and FOR GODSSAKE don't cry or seek emotional help, like a girl." Pastor Paul shares why this belief is a bondage that must be broken if our society is survive. #statusquosucks #InspireU #evangelicalish #ReligiousRightReligiouslyWrong #unconventionalconversations #UnconventionalPastor #GodIsNOTmadAtYou #MindRenewal @PastorPaul_TikTok #WellBeing #DeconstructionU #ReconstructionU

With all of the focus on love the past month, it's important to remember to love ourselves. Join Mandy as she discusses how we are each "wonderfully and fearfully made," (Ps. 139:13-18). Love After Love The time will come when, with elation you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror and each will smile at the other's welcome, and say, sit here. Eat. You will love again the stranger who was your self. Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you ignored for another, who knows you by heart. Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror. Sit. Dear OBC Family,If I had to outline Genesis 3, it would fall under the following headings.Genesis 3:1–6: The Fall.Genesis 3:7–13: The Fallout.Genesis 3:14–24: The Way Out.In these three steps, we get a sense of what happens to the first man and woman. First, seeking to be wise, they became fools. They broke God's law, ate of the fruit, and invited judgment. Yet, before death came, God came. He entered the garden to find the fallout of sin. And then, after questioning the couple, he pronounced a judgment. That judgment led to Adam and Eve's removal from the Garden. Yet, in that good judgment, the Lord God also pronounced good news. In Genesis 3:15 he declared that salvation was coming through the woman's seed. Next week, we'll see that promise in full. But this Sunday we must consider the fallout of Adam's sin and Eve's deception. And by looking square in the face of wreckage, it will reveal much about our own sin and its effects. Wonderfully, we can approach this Garden with the full knowledge of Jesus Christ. Yet, we still need to learn afresh how heinous sin is.And so, as you prepare for Sunday, pray for God to see our sin and to hate our sin. For truly, sin is the source of all death, despair, and destruction. And yet, because we are born in Adam, we do not hate sin—our sin!—as we ought. And that is our aim for Sunday. To prepare, go ahead and read Genesis 3. You may also find it helpful if you read Matthew 6, which will be connected to Genesis 3 on Sunday. As the Lord allows, I hope to see you Sunday. For His Glory and your joy in Christ,Pastor David--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Discussion & Response Questions (Genesis 3:7 – 13)What does 3:8 reveal about the fellowship with God that existed prior to sin? What does this text reveal about the effects of sin upon mankind's relationship to God?Consider Adam and Eve's response to their shame. What is the effect of their clothing? Does clothing allow them to walk with God?God knows all things. Consider then the significance God's questions for Adam and Eve in verses 9, 10, and 13. Why does God ask questions? In what ways do we seek to hide because of our sin? What happens when we hide? What happens when our sin is exposed?Instead of taking responsibility for sin, consider the blaming that takes place. Who is blamed?Does blaming another remove one's responsibility? Why or why not?How does God deal with our guilt and shame in the Gospel? What does the Bible teach us about clothing? (Consider how Scripture speaks about clothing from Genesis to Revelation). How ought we to respond to this text?

Episode 49Psalm 139 helps guide us toward the truth of our worth in the eyes of God and reminds us we were made with great intention! As we learn to revere soul dreams and love our own souls, we could use some of what David knew about God and himself so deeply. "I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made" is not arrogant or mislead, it is honor for God and aligning with truth. It is not a sappy example of a bible-celebrity love story... this is an example of what it means to know God. Did you know that God made you with reverence ? Did you know God respects you? Did you know he made you with heartfelt interest? How would your life change if you felt the same about your own soul?More on Breathing Underwater Memberships HEREInterested in 1:1 coaching with Margaux : Free Consultation HERE Join the Community and Newsletter: HERE Email: margaux@permissiontoreign.comInstagram: @permission_to_reignIntro Music by Coma-Media from PixabayImage by Claire Fischer from Unsplash
