I've said many times before on the show, sometimes you just don't know what impact these conversations will have when I put out an episode. I mean, it's just me with a mic in a room with a Yoda statue behind me. I'm honored to have on the show today, a long-time IFH tribe member who has appreciated and utilized the knowledge bombs we share on here. I'm glad to have on the show today, New Zealand director and writer, Guy Pigden. After years of working with several production companies in the UK and freelancing in New Zealand, Pigden wrote his directorial debut feature film in 2011, I Survived a Zombie Holocaust, with a grant from the New Zealand Film Commission in 2011. The film was nominated for Best Feature Film Screenplay and Best Emerging Writer by the New Zealand Writers Guild in 2015.  I Survived a Zombie Holocaust is a zombie horror-comedy about a young runner, on a Zombie film set, who ends up having a set day from hell when real Zombies overrun the set.Pigden has written and directed a couple of TV series and films since his breakout comedy-horror feature including Asylum, Harrow, Older, No Caller ID, etc.Filmmaking and storytelling had always been a passion for Pigden. At 16 years old he shot his first short film, on an eight-millimeter camera camcorder. He moved to London where he landed jobs as a runner, script reading, and writing.Once he felt much more confident in his understanding and skills as a writer, it was time to make his transition to the dream. Being a director. Pigden returned to New Zealand and freelanced directing and writing. After the release and performance of his first feature film, Guy sought out means to grow revenue from low-budget indie filmmaking----particularly the business aspect of the industry. He found his answers here at the Indie Film Hustle and from my book Rise of the Filmtrepreneur: How to Turn Your Indie Film into a Profitable Business. Everything from making deals, to the actual journey. With these tools, he was able to make a turn-around with his second film.Just this year Guy directed and wrote his latest comedy show, Immi the Vegan which you should check out. Immi the Vegan dreams of finding a good vegan man and gaining the confidence to perform her songs in front of a live audience. But lately, her dates have mistaken her for a vegetarian or tried to send her photos of their meat and two veg.It was humbling learning of how impactful Guy found our work here at IFH and knowing that what we do here is serving bigger purposes, glad to be of service.Guy is raw and transparent on the horrible distribution deal he got into on his film and shares how you can avoid the mistakes he made on his filmmaking journey. Please enjoy my conversation with Guy Pigden.

Spoiler alert: the plot differences didn't get in the way of our story, whatsoever. On this episode: the Italian obsession with New Yorkers, the strength of upper-story hospital windows, heart-eating, gut-eating, eye-eating, zombie mind control, baseless suspicions, a sexy nurse-anthropologist, the infamous cult of Kito, and Ian McCulloch to the rescue!

Why do the streets of New Zealand suddenly seem busier when we are only 7 days into lockdown? Harley has a logical explanation. It's been a full week of full quarantine in New Zealand, are either of our hapless heroes insane yet? They discuss how COVID-19 is affecting their average New Zealand lives, and their plans for the immediate future. Guy has some questions about Harley's chicanery and the boys have some valuable insights into the creation of I Survived a Zombie Holocaust, in particular how to handle Sales Agents when selling your own film. They also take listener feedback and address listener topics. Harley has lifehacks for visiting the local dairy under lockdown and updates on Operation: Get Laid In LA. Guy has a few gaming tips and Harley has some tips for how to talk dirty during sex. There's also hot new funding initiatives for Kiwi filmmakers and some new film ideas that you won't hear anywhere else. So much more, and all this! You got your cannibal movie in my zombie movie. You got your zombie movie in my cannibal movie! This week we're taking on the Italian gore movie "Zombie Holocaust" aka "Dr. Butcher M.D.". This hot mess of a gore film suffers from a major identity crisis not knowing if it wants to be a gory cannibal movie or a crappy nonsensical zombie movie. The only thing the makers of this mess seemed to care about is the gore and shock value. Which we will say for the time they succeeded at, but that's pretty it.

Welcome to a brand new sub-set of show exclusively looking at the Italian Collection releases of 88 Films. 88 Films have, for the last 2 years or so, have been on a tear releasing a torrent of Italian genre classics in high definition. I have been purchasing them and it should be no surprise to anyone, I have left them pretty much unwatched (what can I say...I'm a compulsive collector). In order to watch the movies I buy, and of course create some quality content for you all Under the Stairs, I will be running through each of the movies on this bonus series between 1-2 movies a month depending on the TPUTS schedule. So strap yourself in for a rollercoaster ride of alleged plagiarism, zombies, gore, rape, genital mutilation, sexism, revenge, gialli, cops and robbers, cannibalism, sci fi & more bush and titties than an annual subscription to Penthouse magazine. Disc 4 in the 88 Films Italian Collection is a first time watch for me and is an action rip-off hybrid of Rambo, Deliverance & Death Wish with a futuristic Sci-Fi movie name in Lamberto Bava's Blastfighter (1984). The grading follows the Netflix rating style of 1 = Hated It, 2 = Didn’t Like It, 3 = Liked It, 4 = Really Liked It & 5 = Loved It Blastfighter: Duncan: 4 Up next on the Italian Collection Series is Disc 5 - Zombie Holocaust (1978). Mr Jim Moon rounds up four flicks that at one time or another have purported to be a sequel to Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2 - Zombie Holocaust (1980), Burial Ground (1981), Paul Naschy's The Hanging Woman (1973) and Jorge Grau's The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue (1974)!

Welcome to Dark Discussions podcast. Your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that's fantastic. 2011's Rock and Shock horror convention, October 14th-16th, was once again an absolute success during the month of Halloween. Fans were able to meet some of their favorite horror actors, actresses, and novelists and then mingle with such movie monster icons as Jason Voorhees, ChromeSkull, and Freddy Krueger. In attendance were genre favorites Bill Moseley, Kane Hodder, Camille Keaton, Ian McCulloch, Robert Englund, Monique Dupree, Sarah French, and Joe Knetter just to name a few. Dark Discussions, as press agents, were able to interview a number of folks including some of the cast and crew of the film Inkubus, Robert Englund’s new monster flick which world premiered with Mr. Englund in attendance (Episode 025 of Dark Discussions focuses exclusively on the film). With this second part of the convention coverage, Gordon and Philip were able to interview some of the more famous folks in attendance including such talents as Bill Moseley of the Devil’s Rejects and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 2, Camille Keaton of I Spit On Your Grave and What Have You Done to Solange?, Joe Knetter author and screenwriter, and Ian McCulloch of Zombi and Zombie Holocaust but also a number of up and comers including the cast and crew of the new and exciting independent production entitled Serena and the Ratts. Dark Discussions would like to thank Rock and Shock for their hospitality. As in prior years, Rock and Shock was a complete success and based off what the attendees said, they can't wait for next year. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM

This is how Mail Order Zombie celebrates reviewing 300 movies!  Brother D and Zombie Hunter Tony (author of Kings of the Dead and co-host of the Wasteland Wanderers podcast) hit Portland's Hollywood Theatre last week for a 35m print screening of Dr. Butcher MD (aka Zombie Holocaust; dir. Marino Girolami, aka Frank Martin) and share their thoughts on it this week (Obrero!); when he wasn't at the theater, Brother D was back at MOZ Central reviewing Broken Springs (dir. Neelet Lawson) and The Frankenstein Syndrome (dir.
