In aflevering 72 van Radio Horzelnest verwelkomt Norbert prof.dr. Rick Honings. Rick Honings is neerlandicus, auteur en Scaliger hoogleraar aan het Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society (LUCAS). Rick vertelt over zijn nieuwe boek, De ontdekking van Insulinde. Op reis in Nederlands-Indië in de negentiende eeuw, dat in oktober 2023 verscheen bij Uitgeverij Prometheus. In de vroege 19e eeuw, na de overgang van de VOC en de stichting van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden werd Indië officieel tot kolonie verklaard. De nieuwe koloniale gebieden trokken tal van reizigers: natuurgeleerden, predikanten, zendelingen, gelukszoekers en later ook toeristen. In De ontdekking van Insulinde bespreekt Rick Honings een brede waaier van de reisverslagen die deze reizigers bijhielden. De taal van deze reisverslagen, van de woordkeuze tot de beeldspraak, leggen de koloniale machtsverhoudingen in Nederlands-Indië bloot. In deze aflevering licht Rick enkele van zijn besprekingen uit: van de verslagen van Duitse botanici tot het verslag van Raden Mas Adipati Arjo Tjondronegoro V (pseudoniem: Poerwolelono). Prof.dr. Rick Honings richt zich in zijn onderzoek, doceren en schrijven op zowel de Nederlandse als de Nederlands-Indische letterkunde en cultuur van de negentiende en twintigste eeuw. In 2011 promoveerde hij op het proefschrift “Geleerdheids zetel, Hollandse Roem!” Het literaire leven in Leiden van 1760 tot 1860. In 2015 werd hij universitair docent Moderne Nederlandse Letterkunde, in 2019 werd hij hoofddocent, en 2020 werd hij benoemd tot Scaliger hoogleraar. Ten aanzien van de Indische letteren verzorgde hij samen met dr. Peter van Zonneveld de redactie voor Een tint van het Indische Oosten. En met dr. Coen van 't Veer en prof.dr. Jacqueline Bel verzorgde hij de redactie van De postkoloniale spiegel. De Nederlands-Indische letteren herlezen. Ook schrijf hij Het land van ‘Oosterzonnegloed'. Sporen van Indië in negentiende-eeuwse schrijversarchieven (2021). Schrijver en dichter Mieke van Zonneveld werd op haar 21e getroffen door acute leukemie. Tijdens de ziekte viel de dagelijkse versluiering weg en voelde ze zich wonderlijk genoeg soms zelfs gelukkig, vertelt ze in De verwondering. Maar na de ziekte komt de psychische klap. Waar ze als klein meisje smulde van de rijke taal in de Bijbel, werd haar geloof nu meer een zoektocht: ‘ik schreef zelfs een soort dreigbrief aan God.' Toch bleef de Bijbelse taal haar troosten: ‘ik geloof meer in genade dan voor mijn ziekte. Er is iets warmers in mijn geloof gekomen.'

De speciale speciale aflevering van de Double Top podcast gemist? Deze speciale aflevering werd gemaakt in samenwerking met ALLsportsradio. In de twaalfde aflevering van het tweede seizoen van de Double Top podcast waren Niels Zonneveld en Wessel Nijman te gast bij presentator Damian Vlottes. De mannen bespraken de Pro Tours van vorige week, waar onder meer Zonneveld de kwartfinale haalde. Verder gingen ze in op de tijdelijke schorsing van Jarno Bottenberg, de vraag wie het World Cup-duo van België wordt, de voormalige gokverslaving van Luke Woodhouse en nog veel meer. Maar het is weer helemaal terug: industriepolitiek, ofwel een overheid die richting geeft aan wat voor bedrijvigheid ze in het land wil door winnaars te kiezen. Want naast fiasco's met zombiescheepsbouwers hebben we er ook enkele van onze succesvolste sectoren en bedrijven aan te danken. ASML kreeg in zijn prille jaren tientallen miljoenen aan overheidssteun, de tuinbouwsector ontving goedkoop gas, DSM staat voor De Nederlandse Staatsmijnen ('nuff said), en zo kunnen we nog wel even doorgaan. Dus: hoe ziet die nieuwe industriepolitiek eruit? We spreken met Rinke Zonneveld, de CEO van InvestNL, een staatsparticipatiemaatschappij die vier jaar geleden een zak met 1,7 miljard euro belastinggeld meekreeg, om te investeren in riskante bedrijven die het in de markt niet rooien. Wie kijkt naar de investeringen van InvestNL, ziet dat er in een wilde verscheidenheid van sectoren wordt geïnvesteerd: kweekvlees (gaaf!), fotonica (wat?), quantumtech (hoe?), scanning probe microscopy (tuurlijk!). Klinkt allemaal gaaf, maar als je in zoveel verschillende sectoren zit, kun je dan wel echt doorgronden of de techniek hout snijdt? En hoe ziet Zonneveld de verhouding tussen diversificatie (investeren in zoveel mogelijk verschillende technologieën omdat je nooit weet wat gaat lukken) en specialisatie (investeren in enkele technologieën zodat je er echt goed in wordt)? InvestNL is ook een warm pleitbezorger van een inheemse zonne-industrie: zelf cellen en panelen maken, misschien zelfs zelf silicium destilleren en wafers snijden, om onze afhankelijkheid van China te verminderen. De overheid zou een 'level playing field' moeten creëren (lees: Chinese panelen de tyfus belasten). Moeten we dat wel willen als Nederlandse fabrikanten zelfs in het beste geval nog de helft duurder zijn dan de Chinese concurrentie? Het ‘prachtig ryk van Insulinde dat zich daar slingert om den evenaar, als een gordel van smaragd'. Met die woorden verheerlijkte Multatuli de kolonie Nederlands-Indië in zijn Max Havelaar (1860). In de vroege negentiende eeuw, na de ondergang van de VOC, werd Indië voor het eerst een echte kolonie van Nederland. Zij schreven volop reisverhalen om het ‘moederland' te informeren over het koloniale project. Hoe reisden ze in die periode in Indië? Welke woorden gebruikten ze om uiting te geven aan hun ervaring van de tropen? Wat zagen, hoorden, roken en proefden ze? Welke onbekende planten, dieren en mensen kwamen ze tegen? En wat zeggen de publicaties van negentiende-eeuwers over hun manier van denken? De ontdekking van Insulinde laat niet alleen zien hoe Nederlanders réisden, maar ook hoe ze dáchten en de koloniale stereotypen vorm gaven die tot op heden invloed uitoefenen. Rick Honingsis neerlandicus en Scaliger-hoogleraar aan de Universiteit Leiden. Zijn onderzoek richt zich vooral op negentiende-eeuwse en koloniale literatuur. Met Peter van Zonneveld schreef hij een bekroonde biografie van de dichter Willem Bilderdijk: De gefnuikte arend (2013). Daarnaast schreef hij onder meer de monografieën De dichter als idool. Literaire roem in de negentiende eeuw (2016) en Romantici en revolutionairen. Literatuur en schrijverschap in Nederland in de 18de en 19de eeuw (2019, met Lotte Jensen).

Abstract: Selective attention enables the prioritisation of task-relevant visual information, including among internal contents in working memory. Studies targeting the foundational mechanisms of covert selective attention often consider situations where to-be-attended and to-be-ignored visual contents are presented or memorised in distinct directions from fixation -- rendering direction sufficient for covert selection. Yet, in everyday life, direction alone is typically insufficient for selection because multiple potential objects of attention compete along any given direction. To gain insight into the mechanisms of covert attention when direction is sufficient versus insufficient for selection, we cued participants to select memorised visual items that were encoded near or far from fixation while manipulating whether direction was sufficient (no competition along direction) or insufficient (competition along direction) for selection. To uncover the nature of spatial coding for covert attention, we tapped into directional biasing of fixational gaze behaviour as a non-invasive read-out of the brain's oculomotor system -- a brain system widely recognised for its contribution to covert attention. This unveiled the principle of 'efficient spatial coding' whereby covert internal selective attention considers just direction when sufficient and considers the distance of the attended target only when necessary. On episode 110 of the Live Authentically podcast, Pam is accompanied by Paul Zonneveld. He is an international leadership consultant based out of Amsterdam. He says that it is about embracing whatever comes his way– whether that be a very good mood or something on the other side of the spectrum.Paul tells us that when he finds himself in a mood less than ideal, he tries to find the source or cause of it, which is enormously aided by being entirely open and honest with himself– something that he heavily encourages for everyone.  After more questions about exactly how Paul got on the path of self-improvement and understanding himself, we move on to a more in-depth discussion about the journey that led Paul to where he is today. A part of that discussion brings us to the topic of family systems– specifically how investigating your own family can lead to insight into yourself and what the next more you should make is. Midway through the episode– Paul gives us some real-life examples of times that he has helped give people the perspective they need to see beyond a specific symptom or problem. These examples can give us new insight into how we view our own problems, and perhaps, they may help us zoom out with some perspective. However, these examples aren't just individual specific. Paul continues to give examples of how organizations can benefit as well. Concluding our podcast, Pam and Paul talk about some of the “tricks of the trade” that Paul uses to help people get out of a circle of constantly overthinking. In zijn laatste strandrace tussen de Panne en Bray-Dunes maakte Thijs Zonneveld indruk op de Belgische wielerprof ‘El Tractor' Tim Declercq. De luxeknecht van Quickstep legde het in de sprint om plaats 8 af tegen Zonneveld. In de nabeschouwing vond El Tractor dat die journalist wel een potje kan koersen. Dat hij wel een beetje op z'n Nederlands reed, Thijs deed niet het meeste kopwerk, dat vinden wij vooral koersslimheid; Tim Declercq! Naast het schrijven en het maken van podcasts over fietsen, sport en nieuws kan deze journalist hard fietsen. Geboren in 1980 en in de wieg gelegd voor de koers. Een fietscarrière met illustere ploegen als; ‘Tegeltoko, Discovery-Channel-Marco-Polo en Parkhotel Valkenburg Continental Team'. En in die jaren een overzichtelijk palmares bij elkaar gefietst. Thijs had al gauw door dat zijn talent meer was dan alleen fietsen. Literaire successen als ‘Wilco Kelderman bestaat niet' en ‘Thomas Dekker mijn gevecht' volgde. Gelukkig heeft hij nog tijd om hard te koersen op Zwift en het strand. Met meerdere overwinningen, waaronder het NK Strandrace, is Thijs zelfs voor de profs een niet te onderschatten journalist op de fiets. Makheni Zonneveld is not your average ouma. Dubbed ‘The queen of reinvention, Zonneveld is known for being an international speaker, facilitator, coach, and performing storyteller. The energetic 68-year young granny has always been known for defying her age and successfully reinventing herself into completely different careers ranging from a mathematics lecturer to executive leadership and everything in between.  At age 58 she did what seemed like the biggest reinvention of her life. She followed her heart to a new continent where she learnt a new culture and her 14th language.  This South African now resides in Noordwijkerhout, a small town along the west coast of The Netherlands. Sjaak Zonneveld was eerder te gast in deze aflevering van de podcast. Nu een aantal maanden later is Sjaak opnieuw te gast, want we hebben leuk nieuws! De Spaarpodcast en BrightPensioen slaan de handen in één. Vanaf beide kanten hebben we uitgesproken dat we hier graag transparant over willen zijn, dus met die reden nemen Sjaak en ik je mee in hoe de samenwerking tot stand is gekomen en wat ons doel is. Allereerst doen we even een korte terugblik. Wat hadden we in de vorige aflevering besproken en wat hebben we zien gebeuren in bij de 'finfluencers'? Daarna gaan we dieper in op de samenwerking. Maar waarom is het zo belangrijk om iets te regelen voor je pensioen? Ten eerste stijgt de groep zzp'ers, voor die groep is één ding zeker en dat is dat ze geen pensioen opbouwen. Ten tweede krijgen we meer ouderen en minder jongeren, wat betekent dat een kleinere groep de kosten voor een grote groep draagt. Dit wordt het omslagstelsel genoemd en maakt de toekomst van de AOW ontzettend onzeker. Daarna gaan we in op als het dan echt zo belangrijk is, waarom komen mensen en de overheid dan niet in actie? Bij mensen is er een hoop onwetendheid over de belastingvoordelen die pensioenbeleggen met zich mee brengt, de berekening is lastig en geld vastzetten wordt als een risico gezien. Oftewel: het moet makkelijker gemaakt worden. We laten gezamenlijk maar liefst 1,2 miljard euro liggen aan belastingvoordeel. Dus de overheid heeft waarschijnlijk een tweestrijd. Het is fijn als mensen later geen problemen hebben, maar die 1,2 miljard euro komen ze dan zelf onder aan de streep te kort. Wil jij graag je pensioen goed regelen? En dat is niet zomaar een wedstrijd want het Strandracen heeft de toekomst en zal de komende jaren verder uitgroeien tot een fenomeen wat het nu al voor een klein gezelschap is. GELDZAKEN - Werken tot je 67 en daarna lekker achterover leunen? Dat is volgens auteur van 'Het Nieuwe Werken aan je pensioen' Sjaak Zonneveld verleden tijd. "Pensioen is bedoeld voor de periode dat je niet meer in je eigen levensonderhoud kan voorzien. Het staat niet gelijk aan genieten van het leven", zegt Zonneveld.Hij deed onderzoek naar het fenomeen pensioen tijdens een aantal lange reizen die hij maakte. "Ik verdiepte me in het onderwerp, omdat ik me verbaasde over het feit dat ik er zo weinig van wist. Het is een van de grootste uitgaven van het leven." Zonneveld bouwde zelf ook weinig pensioen op. "Veel mensen halen hun pensioen niet eens. Je moet ook nu genieten en je vrijheid nemen." 40 uurDe veertigurige werkweek is volgens Zonenveld achterhaald. "We zijn meer gaan produceren, maar niet minder gaan werken. In plaats daavan zijn we meer spullen gaan kopen."  Jongeren zijn bovendien de dupe van het huidige stelsel. " Ze betalen onevenredig veel en krijgen er waarschijnlijk niets voor terug."Zonneveld schreef zijn boek ook om de jeugd wakker te schudden. " We moeten het geld niet in een grote pot stoppen, maar individuele rechten scheppen met minder verplichtingen."
