Play Episode Listen Later Nov 15, 2018 33:04

In this episode, we discuss the negative thought patterns that may be keeping you stuck in your body image journey. We dive into why those clothes you hold onto as "motivation" are doing more harm than good, what happens when your new (bigger and better) booty rips your old favourite jeans and other trigger moments that come along with weighing yourself, body checking and trying on too-tight clothing.  Body Checking is defined as obsessively checking or measuring a part of your body and is often used as a substitute for obsessively weighing yourself in recovery. It is often obsessive, compulsive and rooted in anxiety that you are "bigger" than you were last time you checked. This may look like constantly looking at your body from a certain angle when you walk past a mirror, pinching/wrapping your hands or arms around certain parts of your body or weighing yourself. We dive into how this was one of the hardest behaviours for us to let go of even years after we were over our disordered eating. These behaviours send a message to your mind: you are not enough YET. They make you believe that there is a certain way you should look, a goal you should reach, a piece of clothing you should fit into and when that happens you will finally be "happy". Self-acceptance is one of the hardest things to accomplish especially in a world that constantly tells us we need to be thinner, better, leaner, fitter etc. We want you to walk away from this episode understanding that your body as it is today is amazing and you can be on a journey towards self improvement while also loving yourself for where you are today.  Key Takeaways:  Ways that holding onto too-tight clothing is holding you back Body Checking and subtle ways you may be taking part in it Ways that your thoughts/behaviours are holding you in a place of stagnation We discuss the challenge of accepting yourself for where you are while also moving forward Why willpower is BS and you need to listen to your body's queues   You can eat cookies and it doesnt make you a "bad" person
