On today's Israel Uncensored with Josh Hasten, an interview with Dan Diker, President and Fellow at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, on reports that Israel and Saudi Arabia might be headed towards a full-scale normalization deal. Diker said that a quiet normalization already exists between the two countries. He explained that the Biden Administration is pushing a deal, as the Democrats are seeking a Middle East victory with the 2024 elections looming. At the same time, Iran's terrorist aggression through its proxies, can't be ignored as part of the Saudi's policies. Don't miss this interview, with expert analysis on the latest events shaping the region, with Israel front and center.

Jonny Gould's Jewish State

Israel's judicial reform row is proving an awful spectacle for the watching world. I wanted to find voices of moderation and considered opinion - and in particular, within the ruling Likud Party: is there anyone willing to stand up to Benjamin Netanyahu over the division this is causing? As a diaspora Jew, I look on in dismay at the threat to unity of the Jewish people. And I'm not saying for a moment the judiciary doesn't need reform. It's just the way this is unfolding which is causing such upset. Benjamin Netanyahu's government are trying to force legislation "down the throat of half of the population", according to Israel's former ambassador to the US, Danny Ayalon. And my guest today calls the Netanyahu government's attempt at change a “sledge hammer” in what he calls an “I'll show you” kind of political culture. It's the new CEO of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, Dan Diker. Alongside, Dan, Ambassador Ayalon also appears in this episode, a Likud grandee confronting this issue. There's also comment from Jerusalem's deputy mayor, Fleur Hassan-Nahoum. Just as bad has been some Jews in the diaspora publicly dissociating themselves with the Jewish State. Never. Not in this podcast. We also talk about the long-awaited arrival of Sudan to the Abraham Accords table and the sudden opportunities for defence and security from Africa plus the "untenable" violence from the Palestinians against everyday Israelis. Then there's a definition of Jeremy Corbyn's version of political antisemitism and in the shifting sands of Middle Eastern diplomacy, what on earth has happened to Oman, who seem to have fallen under the spell of Iran's mullahs. LISTEN to this fascinating, passionate, eyewitness conversation with the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs' new president, Dan Diker.

In the last 2 weeks, J Street and their allies released a purposely misleading poll suggesting that 25% of American Jews believe that Israel is an “apartheid state.” During this same period, groups like J Street and other anti-Israel Jewish leftists have come to the defense of Ben & Jerry's BDS attacks against Israel Along with these groups, antisemitic propogandists like Linda Sarsour, Ilhan Omar, and the Squad engage in carefully orchestrated messaging that blood-libels Israel which leads into outright antisemitism and Jew-Hatred. There's an old adage, “The truth will set you free.” That is, unless the lies told about you are so big, so organized, and so well-orchestrated, that the truth doesn't even matter anymore. The rise of the blood-libel movement against Israel has been growing for decades, but now, has reached an all-time level of lies meant to delegitimize, destabilize, and eventually dismantle the State of Israel. From the media, to academia, to the Halls of Congress, the slandering of Israel with the most grotesque lies have led to a record level of physical attacks and harassment of Jews on the streets of New York, other large cities with significant Jewish populations, and college campuses throughout North America. Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant, and Jerry Gordon of Israel News Talk Radio – “Beyond the Matrix” bring back Dan Diker of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA) to discuss two stunning developments that are game changers: Israel normalizing relations with the UAE and potentially other Arab states in the Gulf and the Balkan countries of Kosovo and Serbia. Diker is the director of the Political Warfare Program at the JCPA and former Secretary General of the World Jewish Congress. UAE Israel normalization sidelines years of Palestinian rejectionism in the Middle East peace process. Diker noted that the announcement of normalization of relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel brokered by the Trump Administration upends the Palestinian propaganda machine that has “defamed, dehumanized and delegitimized the Jewish nation state with virulent anti-Semitism.” Diker suggested that today regional peace is now possible with the Arab gulf states with the likelihood that additional normalization agreements may soon become reality with Middle Eastern states such as Bahrain, Oman, Morocco and perhaps Saudi Arabia. Diker noted the granting of air rights by Saudi Arabia through the UAE for travel stopovers to the East, and for the recent transit of U.S. and Israeli delegations to Abu Dhabi. Moreover, recent statements by the Imam of the Grand Mosque appear to welcome these normalization developments. Beyond the Matrix 09SEP2020 - PODCAST

Rod Reuven Dovid Bryen and Jerry Gordon bring back Dan Diker, Senior Fellow and Director of the Program to Counter Political Warfare at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA). Diker authored a recent JCPA brief, “The Alignment of BDS and Black Lives Matter: Implications for Israel and Diaspora Jewry”. Diker also appeared on a recent Jewish Broadcasting Service discussion program moderated by Rabbi Marc Golub with Joshua Washington, the young American Assistant Director of the Institute for Black Solidarity for Israel that promotes the pro-Zionist legacy of the late revered American civil rights leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King and Rev. Ralph Abernathy. American Jews, as Diker notes, had fought for Black civil rights as abolitionists in the 19th Century and the 1960’s culminating in the historic passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act under President Johnson. American Jews have actively and publicly opposed racism and police brutality. Diker’s JCPA brief exposed the disturbing trends converging between BLM and BDS that he suggests had its origins in the 2014 Iranian regime backed Hamas rocket and terror tunnel war against Israel. The rise of BLM was triggered by the killings of Black young men Trayvon Martin in Florida in 2012 and Michael Brown in 2014 in Ferguson. Missouri. Recently, the BLM campaign was “turbo-charged” by the murder on May 25, 2020 of George Floyd while in the custody of a Minneapolis Police Officer sparking daily protests and violence that quickly spread across the US. The Movement for Black Lives (MBL) A BLM Network member organization, has openly accused Israel of being a racist Apartheid state. It connected Israel’s “occupation” in Gaza and the Palestinian Authority meme that the Jewish nation was “born in sin” with US state racism, imperialism, and fascism. Minister Louis Farrakhan, a spiritual guide and role model for BLM activists and sympathizers, has labeled Jews “Satan”. MBL’s radical solution is to “take down” the US government, while defunding and dismantling police departments across the United States. Diker noted the launch of a petition by University of California Students accusing Israel of “complicity’ in the murder of George Floyd due to US law enforcement agencies’ participation in a 2012 program in Israel on counterterrorism intelligence sharing. Diker suggests that these accusations are completely unfounded. Moreover, BDS and Palestinian activist rhetoric accusing Israel of imperialism and colonialism is straight out of the Marxist-Leninist playbook. In fact, Israel is a result of Zionist de-colonialization, resettling the Jewish homeland after the fall of the 400-year Ottoman empire. He pointed to a recent article in the Cambridge Journal of Race Ethnicity of Politics, “What Kind of Movement is Black Lives Matter? The view from twitter”. Diker commented: This superb research on BLM reveals that the movement rejects the “politics of respectability” of Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement”. This is dangerous for the Palestinian issue as it rejects inclusion, and instead advocates a political replacement theology. Diker endorsed the work of Joshua Washington of the Institute for Black Solidarity for Israel, the son of Pastor Dumasani Washington, a California pastor, and a leading figure in the organization Christians United for Israel. Washington is also a next generation acolyte of Dr. King, a proud supporter of Israel and Zionism until his tragic assassination in 1968. Beyond the Matrix 05AUG2020 - PODCAST

Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon bring back a frequent guest, Dan Diker, Director of the Political Warfare Program at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA). They discuss with Diker the apparent Netanyahu victory in the third election in a year in Israel, the rising Israeli Arab quest for normalization in the Jewish state and a new book on Israelphobia and the West published by the JCPA that has caught a wave of attention in Washington, Jerusalem. Alan Dershowitz who participated in a roundtable discussion before an audience of 250 at the JCPA remarked that he considered Israelphobia and the West as the bible on combatting the new antisemitism of Israel as the Jewish state and the return of violence against individual Jews, that occurred in Pittsburgh, Poway, Jersey City and Monsey, New York in the US. Violence against Jews not seen since the Holocaust that took the lives of Six Million European Jews. While the results of Israel’s third election will not be available until early next week, nonetheless, it appears that with 95 percent of the vote tallied that Likud has 36 mandates versus the Blue White alliance’s 32. The Likud led right bloc composed of Shas, Agudath, other religious parties and Yamina are within striking distance of forming a possible ruling coalition with 59 mandates or seats in the Knesset. The Final tally may show perhaps another 3 to 4 Knesset seats from 100,000 votes remaining to be counted. That would cement formation of a Netanyahu ruling coalition in an unprecedented fifth term as Prime Minister. Diker note that the voter turnout was the highest since 1999. Diker attributes that result to intensive campaigning in predominating Likud base areas. That was facilitated by use of an Israeli software system Elexor that identified low Likud base turnout in previous elections and sent text messages to cell phones urging voting turnout. Should President Rivlin grant PM Netanyahu the right to form a new ruling Knesset, that would effectively dent the reputation of Avigdor Liberman and his right wing secular Yisrael Beiteinu party as ‘kingmaker’. Liberman, the former foreign and defense minister in previous Netanyahu governments scored only 7 mandates in this election. Beyond the Matrix 04MAR2020 - PODCAST

anti-Semitic attacks in the US and Europe: Israelphobia? - Beyond the Matrix

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 1, 2020 43:20

Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant bring back Dan Diker of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs to address what is behind the disturbing rise of violent anti-Semitic attacks against Jews in the US and Europe. Diker is the Director of the Program to Counter Political Warfare at the JCPA. He is the editor and author of monographs and books concerning the radical origins of the international BDS campaign, anti-Israeli Students for Justice in Palestine connected to Hamas and normalization of relations between Arabs and Jews in Israel, Judea and Samaria. The program reflected the increasing concern of more than 13 attacks against members of the Chassidic communities in New York and New Jersey in the last month of 2019. Those attacks that resulted in the deaths of four persons at a Kosher Super Market in Jersey City, New Jersey and a machete attack in Monsey, New York injuring five, one severely, on the Seventh evening of Hanukkah. They were perpetrated by African Americans espousing Israel and Jew hatred, Hitler and Nazism alleged to be extremists of the Black Israelite Hebrew movement. Diker propounded the view that the spike may be attributable to leftist extremists in the US Congress, such as Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and NGOs, fostering Israelophobia – hatred of the Jewish nation of Israel and Jew hatred, under the guise of violating the civil rights of the Palestinians. Diker suggests that may be at the crux of the rise of anti-Semitism in both the US and Europe. Diker delineates three strands of anti-Semitism. First strand is Islamic and Arab Jew hatred in Europe that manifests itself in Quds Day march festooned with Hezbollah flags. Second is the extreme right wing in both the US and EU. In this category are the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre that killed 11 Jews at shabbat services in October 2018 and the attack at the Poway Chabad Center in 2019 that killed a congregant injuring the rabbi. They were perpetrated by white supremacists. Third, is exemplified by rise of Jeremy Corbyn, the anti-Semitic Labor Party leader in the UK cloaking Jew hatred in the form of political criticism of Israel delegitimizing it as an illegal racist endeavor. These fit the definitions of anti-Semitism of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and those of the US Department of State in 2010. The IHRA definition of anti-Semitism were adopted by the recent Executive Order signed by President Trump on December 15, 2019 applying Title 6 of the 1964 Civil Rights Law to Jewish Americans asserting Israel’s ethnic religious heritage as the basis for the Jewish nation of Israel: i.e., the triad of the people of Israel, Torah of Israel and Land of Israel. The Trump executive order provides some important remedies. J Street opposes the Trump executive order because it has a chilling effect on criticism of Israel meaning delegitimizing and demonizing the Jewish nation. Gordon noted that the first compliant filed under the order was by an alumni group at Columbia University, his alma mater. Diker opined that Jewish alumni are important sources of endowment at several elite universities. He suggested that this was one way of combating anti-Semitism suggested by News York Times columnist Bari Weiss, author of a book on the subject, How to Fight Antisemitism. Diker asserted that the recent violent attacks by African Americans in Monsey and Jersey City were a cross category of anti-Semitism which meant that the motivation was no longer the exclusive possession of the extremist right wing. The view of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo that the attacks in both New Jersey were “domestic terrorism’ belied the definition that such acts are meant to harm civilians in the name of a political agenda. Diker suggested this downplays the motivation in these attacks of pure Jew hatred. Beyond the Matrix 01JAN2020 - PODCAST

Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon in Israel News Talk Radio – Beyond the Matrix interviews in November focused on the threat of the Islamic Republic to Israel and other US allies in the Middle East. Violent domestic protests erupted in Iran, Iraq and Lebanon over Iran and proxies’ hegemonic goals, government corruption and populations’ quest for freedom. Dan Diker of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs cited Iranian protester cries in Farsi of “No Lebanon, No Palestine, No foreign wars.” Diker noted the prediction of the late Uri Lubrani, the last Israeli Ambassador to Iran, “that popular discontent would lead to regime change rather than an external attack.” He noted that the Iranian people are fundamentally democratic and opposed to living under an Islamic terrorist supporting regime. Diker cited a US former official suggesting that it might cost less than $100 million to foster regime change in Iran; a lot less expensive than a full-throated kinetic war. That was reinforced in our interview with Ken Timmerman, who knew Lubrani personally and had worked with him on a plan for Iran regime change. Timmerman, a veteran Iran Democracy advocate, had proposed a comprehensive program estimated at $300 million. Timmerman drew attention to the action of US Secretary of State Pompeo during the peak of the latest Iranian protests, triggered by a spike in gasoline prices and rationing, enabling the rebroadcast of more than 20,000 email, text messages and videos by encrypted messaging services like Telegraph. A Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report cited Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli who said, “that as many as 200,000 people participated in the protests in more than 100 cities across Iran, which damaged 50 police stations, 70 gas stations and more than 700 banks across the country”. Estimates of the dead, currently at 200 and rising are vastly understated. The WSJ report focused on the Islamic Regime forcing families to pay $8,000 for retrieval of dead protesters disguising them as deceased Security personnel. The Islamic regime reported “arresting 7,000, 200 suspected ‘ringleaders’ and 8 alleged CIA agents.” Iran appeared to be reeling under the effects of the Trump economic sanctions, as its hard currency reserves were rapidly shrinking and income from oil smuggling was dwindling. In Iraq, hundreds of protesters have been killed, Iranian consulates have been burned forcing the Prime Minister’s resignation. The nefarious head of Iran’s Qud’s Force, General Qassem Soleimani has once again appeared in Baghdad endeavoring to suppress this uprising against the Iraqi central government and Iranian-controlled militias. A secret Iran Intelligence file revealed the depths of infiltration into Iraqi government. The threat of tribal warfare in Iraq against Iran-controlled militias may be in the offing. There was a phone call between President Trump and embattled Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, the latter unable to form a ruling coalition government while facing a trial on bribery and corruption indictments. The call was about dealing with the Iran threats. Netanyahu will be leaving shortly to confer about these Iran threats with Secretary of State Pompeo in Portugal. Acting Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett said that Israel was in a battle with Iran that necessitated unleashing more attacks in neighboring Syria, attacking launching sites for precision cruise missiles and drones in Yemen, Lebanon and Gaza. An Iranian IRGC general boasted of having missiles that targeted 21 US bases in the region. Beyond the Matrix 04DEC2019 - PODCAST

Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon interview Dan Diker, Director of the Program to Counter Political Warfare at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. The occasion was the stunning policy ruling by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that Israeli settlements in the disputed territories of Judea and Samaria, aka the West Bank, were legal. The Secretary’s ruling was based on studies by international legal experts and scholars sponsored by the US State Department. This policy ruling occurred on the cusp of the EU issuing an anti-Semitic BDS labelling requirement on Israeli products produced in the disputed territories of Judea and Samaria. Overall the reaction was positive in the Israeli body polity, according to Dan Diker. It represented a positive assault against the delegitimization and general misunderstanding about the Israeli settlement presence in the disputed territories. The US history on the issue had varied starting in 1967 that recognized Israel’s right to defensible borders Under UN Res. 242. However, over the past nearly 53 years there had been instances under Presidents Carter and Obama that took exception to Israel’s legal rights suggesting that building settlements was problematic. The most glaring example being the Obama Administration abstention on UN Security Council Resolution 2234 in December 2016 directed at curtailing construction of new settlements. Diker thinks that Pompeo’s decision parallels Israeli law, especially the Edmund Levy opinion that re-established the legitimacy of settlements in the disputed territories for nearly 500,000 Israelis. Diker thinks Pompeo’s ruling paves the way to apply Israeli law for Israeli settlements in Area C covering 95 Percent of the 500,000 population that resides close by the 1967 green line. Pompeo’s ruling raised adverse comments among leading US Democratic Presidential hopefuls. He noted former Vice President Biden’s warning that confirming the legality of Israeli settlements in the illegal West Bank occupied for 19 years by Jordan might give rise to “instability in the region”. Diker contended that neither the move of the US Embassy to Jerusalem and Trump’s support for Israeli sovereignty over the Golan hadn’t caused violence against the Jewish nation of Israel. Instead he pointed out the increasing security, commercial and diplomatic relations with Sunni Kingdoms and Emirates. Diker was asked to contrast anti-normalization versus normalization as an expert on the issues. He noted that anti-normalization has been fostered by the International BDS Campaign of the PLO/PA and NGOs. The purpose was to isolate Israel as equivalent to the former Apartheid South Africa regime. Israel sovereignty has been confirmed in the 20th Century through the Balfour Declaration of 1917, the 1920 San Remo, 1922 US Congressional resolutions and the UN Charter adoption of the League of Nations international resolutions. The practical side of normalization is reflected in a major initiative announced by Israel PM Netanyahu this past week: the creation of new industrial zones in Area C employing more than 250,000 new jobs for Arabs with earnings 3 times that under the PA in Areas A, and B under the Oslo Accords. This normalization initiative Diker suggest, will lay the groundwork for ultimate Palestinian sovereignty. Beyond the Matrix 20NOV2019 - PODCAST

This episode of Broken Boxes Podcast presents a live stream recording by artists Christine Howard Sandoval and Cannupa Hanska Luger as they visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art's new exhibit: Art of Native America, The Charles and Valerie Diker Collection on October 7th, 2018. The two artists engaged in a live stream critique and shared the experience on social media as it was unfolding. Onsite at the Met the two artists were joined by the guest curators from the Nelson Atkins Museum Gaylord Torrence and Marjorie Alexander along with the Met's director of public programs Mari Robles. In reflecting on the experience in her social media post about the experience, Christine Howard Sandoval explains, “The museum mobilized responsively and the conversation about how the museum is FOR THE FIRST TIME starting to engage with Indigenous art is raw and honest. They have so much work to do as the major museum of art in the country!”   Broken Boxes would like to acknowledge this is an audio recording of a live feed video of an experience viewing an exhibition, so it may feel a bit hard to follow along, but if you are up to it, it may be worth the journey.
