Earlier this week, country superstar Kacey Musgraves announced her sixth album, Middle of Nowhere, which will be released on May 1. Since her Grammy-winning 2018 album Golden Hour, Musgraves has explored a space beyond country music, but the new album reflects a renewed interest in traditional country and western sounds, influenced by the time she's been spending on either side of the Texas-Mexico border. For her first interview about the project, she sat down with reporter Jewly Hight to discuss the album's first single, "Dry Spell," how she's learned to love solitude and what made her frosty relationship with with fellow Texan Miranda Lambert thaw enough to collaborate. To manage podcast ad preferences, review the links below:See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

Long recognized as one of the most thrilling and thoughtful guitarists of his generation, Matthew Stevens has built an elite reputation in music, touring, and recording with a "who's who" of modern icons, including Esperanza Spalding, Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, Harvey Mason, and Walter Smith Ill. He has also made a splash outside of jazz, having produced the tribute album I Am A Pilgrim - Doc Watson at 100, featuring artists such as Valerie June, Steve Earle, Nora Brown, and Dolly Parton (Stevens produced Parton's version of "The Last Thing on My Mind," which earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Solo Performance in 2024). A culmination of 20 years of craft, the eponymous album serves as a mid-career mission statement with Stevens stepping into the spotlight. Co-produced by Stevens, saxophonist Josh Johnson, and percussionist Eric Doob, the record seamlessly melds acoustic and electric sonics through a mix of genre-blurring originals and deeply personal covers. It features a multigenerational cast of musicians who have had a profound impact on Stevens' journey, including rising visionaries like vibraphonist Joel Ross and vocalists Anna B Savage and Corey King, in addition to his mentor Terri Lyne Carrington and personal guitar hero Jeff Parker. At the album's core is a band of his most trusted collaborators, which also includes keyboardist Chris Fishman and bassist Kyle Miles, with additional contributions from percussionist Paulo Stagnaro and guitarists Dylan Day and Rich Hinman on slide and pedal steel. Matthew Stevens reflects a period of profound personal and artistic change, ultimately bringing him to "a place of optimism, excitement, and confidence" that signals a bold new chapter for one of jazz's most essential voices and respected players. website www.mattstevens.com www.instagram.com/matthewthomaswyatt  Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/7z1PSpsIyAeniOOtaQ1iYa?si=cS9P53EIR46Qs9X4YvAd-g About Music Matters with Darrell Craig Harris The Music Matters Podcast is hosted by Darrell Craig Harris, a globally published music journalist, professional musician, and Getty Images photographer. On this episode of Bussin’ With The Boys, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan sit down with country superstar Luke Combs for a wide-ranging conversation that starts in the football locker room and ends on the main stage. The boys kick things off debating whether concussions exist before getting into Luke’s high school football days, including being teammates with Caleb Pressley and watching Brandon Spikes be an absolute man amongst boys. From there, Luke walks through when he first got into singing and what it was like booking that very first show. Luke opens up about moving to Nashville, learning the music business the hard way, and the relationships that helped him find his lane. He talks about breaking the mold in country music, whether he ever got jaded after blowing up, and who he wanted to meet when he first arrived in town. The conversation rolls through his favorite album he’s written, becoming a parent, whether he’s actually a fan of snow, and his diehard App State football fandom—including his thoughts on the current state of college football. The episode opens with NFL free agency news, Maxx Crosby’s new deal, Ravens and Raiders outlook, an Andrew Luck vs. Joe Burrow debate, Justin Jefferson unfollowing J.J. McCarthy, Logan Paul possibly fighting NFL players, Will’s 40 time, BWTB stadium rankings, the White House UFC card, T-shirt contest winners, and Taylor’s Vegas trip. James Barnes — known to audiences throughout the region as JB — carries the blues in his blood. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in New Jersey after his family moved east in 1965, he grew up steeped in the sound and spirit of the music. On his father's side, JB traces his lineage back to Mississippi, the wellspring from which so much of this tradition flows. Those “Mississippi Roots” became more than just family history; they formed the bedrock of his artistic calling.JB didn't come to the blues casually. He studied the greats —those who laid the path before him, those who continue to shape the form today. That study became devotion, and in 2016, the New Jersey Blues Hall of Fame recognized that devotion, honoring him as a “Great Blues Artist.” His first recording, JB's Favorite Things (2023), established him as an independent artist with something genuine to say. His long-running band, BBD Rhythm & Blues, which he founded in 2012, has been carrying that message across clubs, festivals, and concert halls throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Delaware for more than a decade.JB's mission is plain spoken yet profound: to honor the artists who came before him while ensuring the blues remains vibrant in the present. His latest project makes that mission personal. My Mississippi Roots, was released in the fall of 2025, and is more than a record — it is a testimony. The title track tells the story of JB's father, Jerry Lee Barnes Sr., a man of quiet determination who journeyed from the deep South to the industrial North in search of work and a better life for his family. “His Mississippi Roots,” JB says, “are my Mississippi Roots.”Produced by guitarist, songwriter, and longtime friend Anthony Krizan, My Mississippi Roots combines JB's storytelling with contributions from a host of musicians —including his son, Jarred “Arktkt” Barnes — whose playing brings fresh fire to the tradition. The record traverses the landscape of the blues and beyond: original compositions, heartfelt tributes, and reimagined classics all rendered with conviction. For more info on James and his tour dates:https://www.jbkeepingthebluesalive.com

"A wonderful guitar player and great songwriter " - Steve Miller      "Curry is the next guitar hero" - Peter Frampton     Acclaimed singer-songwriter Matthew Curry returns with his new album ONE FOR THE RIDE, a dynamic and heartfelt collection that showcases the full range of his musicianship -- from fiery, virtuostic guitar work to intimate, emotionally rich songwriting. The album explores life on the road, love celebration, personal reflection, and Americana storytelling, all delivered with Curry's signature depth and gritty authenticity.   Born and raised in Bloomington, Illinois, Curry picked up the guitar at age four, was performing live by eight, and leading his own band by eleven. Curry's distinctive blend of blues, rock, southern rock, and old-school country has earned him a devoted audience across the globe. Over the years, Matthew has toured with major icons including the Doobie Brothers, Steve Miller Band, Peter Frampton, Journey, Don Felder, with Steve Miller praising Curry as "a wonderful guitar player and great songwriter in the league of Stevie Ray Vaughan."   One For The Ride captures Curry's life on the road, his love for storytelling, and the musical influences that shaped him. The album bursts open with high-energy southern rock flair, drawing inspiration from the raw spirit of bands like ZZ Top and the timeless road-song tradition.Tracks like "Rum Stumblin'" showcase Curry's knack for crafting fun, bluesy, party-driven grooves, while "Born Behind The Wheel" leans into gritty riffs and harmonies rooted in the southern rock Curry grew up listening to.For more on Matthew Curry check at the website:https://matthewcurry.com

On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen, we dive into HUGE news: Alex Van Halen has officially confirmed that work is underway on a brand-new album built from unheard Eddie Van Halen material—for the first time ever. Alex revealed in a recent interview that he's been teaming up with Steve Lukather to help bring these recordings to life. These aren't scraps or demos either—this is music that was intended to become the next Van Halen album before Eddie's passing. The foundation is already there, with drums, guitars, and bass recorded—bass handled by Wolfgang Van Halen. But don't expect a quick release. Alex says nothing will come out unless it meets the same high standard the band always demanded. They're carefully shaping the material into something worthy of the Van Halen legacy—no unfinished sketches, only top-tier music. The big missing piece? A vocalist. Paul Rodgers was considered but declined due to health and touring. Alex says he and Lukather are searching for the right voice—someone from the same musical era who understands the spirit of the band. He even mentioned Robert Plant as a dream fit, though nothing is set in stone. Notably, past Van Halen singers David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, and Gary Cherone were not discussed. Alex's goal? To finish what they started and deliver something powerful, emotional, and worthy of the band's history. If this project comes together, it could be one of the most important rock releases in years. #VanHalen #EddieVanHalen #AlexVanHalen #JohnnyBeaneTV #ExclusivelyVanHalen
