Throughout our body image series - we've had so many powerful, inspiring and life-affirming conversations with people who have incredible advice on how we can build better relationships with our bodies. One of those people is Alice Liveing. Alice is a personal trainer, influencer, columnist, podcaster and bestselling author who has inspired thousands of people with her relatable, motivational and balanced health advice. In this conversation, we take a look back to the 2010s - when she inadvertently became the poster girl for so-called “clean eating”. We found out how Alice found herself in that situation and what led her to move away from it to build a healthy relationship with her body image. If you want to hear our full investigation of wellness - you can listen to our episode ‘The “Wellness” Rebrand' which is available now. The 2010s is a time we have come to think of as the ‘wellness' rebrand. The era in which we declared that we wanted to be ‘strong not skinny' and that we discarded what we now thought of as ‘fad' diets and traded them in for consistent ‘healthy' living. Skin and bones were out, toned arms, visible abs and curves in all the right places were in.Today we're investigating if by replacing thinness as the thing to which we should aspire to with “healthy”, many of us fell into a false sense of healing, not realising how unhealthy our new and ‘healthy' habits really were….Thanks so much to our amazing guests who feature on this episode: Alice Liveing, Melissa Hemsley and Tally RyeFollow @tallyrye on Instagram Find out more about Tally's work hereFollow @melissa.hemsley on Instagram Order Melissa's latest book Real Healthy here Follow @aliceliveing on Instagram You can buy your copy of Alice's book Give Me Strength hereIf you would like to get in touch - you can email us on shouldideletethat@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram:@shouldideletethat@em_clarkson@alexlight_ldnShould I Delete That is produced by Faye LawrenceMusic: Dex RoyStudio Manager: Dex RoyTrailers: Sophie RichardsonVideo Editor: Celia GomezSocial Media Manager: Emma-Kirsty Fraser Hosted on Acast. Trigger warning: eating disordersI knew Alice Liveing's story was one full of twists and turns, but I did not expect to have such a frank conversation about the power we give 'social media stars' and the impact of toxic trends not just on viewers, but on the individuals perpetuating those trends. This episode is about Alice's journey to balance, but it's also about the warped reality of social media, and why we shouldn't be too harsh on ourselves about our past actions, something we all need a reminder of every so often. I hope you enjoy listening! This week, Em and Alex are joined by personal trainer and OG Instagram influencer Alice Liveing. Welcome to Mission Confidence, a special edition of the Going For Goal podcast sponsored by Philips that’s designed to help you on your body confidence journey. This podcast has been created as part of our Project Body Love initiative, which is all about challenging the way we think, feel and speak about our bodies; embracing what makes us unique and putting an end to negative self-talk and embarrassment. Philips believe that hair removal should be a choice, and it looks different for everyone. If you do choose to remove your body hair, whether you prefer to take it all off or to tackle your legs, armpits or bikini line only, Philips has a range of hair removal tools to suit your needs. And on Mission Confidence, over four episodes and with the help of some very wise women, we’re going to be exploring confidence in its various facets and forms – with the goal of helping you tap into yours. On this final episode of Mission Confidence we’re looking specifically at ageless confidence with two women – one who’s 28, the other who’s 42 – who are both extremely passionate about the topic. They are Women’s Health editor-in-chief Claire Sanderson and three-time WH cover star and PT Alice Liveing. We discuss how confidence can evolve with age and experience – and how both women have noticed that, as they’ve gotten older, they’re better equipped to find confidence and strength from what’s inside – kindness, resilience, individuality, grit – rather than needing external validation to shore-up their self-esteem. Both seriously fit women discuss the confidence-fuelling power of a workout; why body hair, or the lack of it, doesn’t need to be a statement – and why using the Philips Lumea IPL device is a simple, pain-free solution for helping them achieve the smooth armpits and bikini line they, personally, prefer. You’ll likely know well the multiple fitness benefits of incorporating high intensity interval training - better known as HIIT - into your workout regime. There's the improved cardio-respiratory health boosted fat burn, as well as the fact this most intense and sweaty of exercise need only last a short while. In today’s episode, our digital fitness writer Morgan Fargo speaks to Luke Worthington, a personal trainer and sports scientist, as well as personal trainer and two-time WH cover star Alice Liveing, about how to find that all important healthy balance and fun when it comes to workouts. Whatever level of Covid restrictions you’re living under right now, there’s a high chance that you’ll be working on your fitness from your living room this November - as opposed to the gym floor. One woman who knows a thing or two about home workouts is today’s guest, PT, Instagram star and 3x WH covergirl - and columnist - Alice Liveing. Here she speaks to WH Editor-in-Chief Claire Sanderson (back before the latest restrictions came into force in England) and they cover a lot: from at-home fitness making a healthy lifestyle more accessible to what to do to ensure you’re properly challenging yourself and making gains at home - whatever those may look like to you. They also discuss the complex place we’re in with body politics in 2020, and why if weight loss or altering your body composition is a goal for you, that’s totally okay - provided your motivation and your means for getting there are healthy. Of course, staying healthy in lockdown isn’t just about fitness; Alice also talks about mental health, specifically her health anxiety and how she’s managing this condition against the ultra-triggering backdrop of a global pandemic. I’ve been an admirer of this weeks guest Alice Liveing for yonks. She’s massive in the health and fitness industry and for all the right reasons. What inspires me about Alice is her positive and healthy attitude towards exercise and eating and how she encourages others to feel the same way. She is seeking to change the narrative around health to something more positive and uplifting and I’m all for it. We chat about forming a healthy relationship with social media, setting healthy fitness goals and moving away from diet culture. I took so much away from this podcast so I hope you all will too! Alice Liveing is a part-time personal trainer, part-time superhero. A three-time bestselling author, she’s a woman on a mission to change our idea of what strength looks like, hosting a podcast of her own, Give Me Strength, where she chats to everyone from Olympians to glossy magazine editors about what their idea of strength looks like. I’ve followed Alice on Instagram for years, where she shares brilliant workout videos combined with thorough explanations and positive mantras. In person, I found her every bit as sunny and approachable as her social media presence suggests. During the recording of this episode, Alice radically changed the way I think about self care – I loved her suggestion that sometimes self care is just getting out of bed in the morning, a notion I’m sure many of us can relate to. Our conversation ranged from the benefits of exercising alone to the important issue of domestic violence, something Alice herself has experienced first-hand.*Alice is an ambassador for Women’s Aid, a charity which aims to end domestic violence against women and children. This week Alice Liveng is our guest on Grazia Life Advice - the podcast where we ask our guests to tell us the six best pieces of advice they've ever been given... and the one worst. A personal trainer, bestselling author and fitness Instagrammer, she hit the scene as Clean Eating Alice and amassed thousands of followers, before being hit during the clean-eating backlash. But now, a qualified personal trainer and ditching the 'clean eating' moniker, she's still going strong and has even recently launched a workout collection with Primark. I loved meeting Alice, who - despite a cold - was a lovely ball of energy, brimming with positivity. She had a real range of advice for life and business embracing what she calls 'healthy selfishness' - and there's even some advice from her grandad in there.
