Joining us today is Anjan Katta, the visionary founder of Daylight Computer, a company that has developed the world's first blue-light-free, flicker-free, and sunlight-visible computer display, called Live Paper. This revolutionary technology is designed to transform how we use computers, allowing you to be a better version of yourself—more focused, healthier, and happier. Anjan's inspiration came from his own personal struggles with screen addiction and the toll it took on his physical and mental health. Daylight also recently launched their first product, the DC-1 tablet, after six years of intense research and development. And it's built entirely using their own proprietary technology. This tablet brings Live Paper to life, offering a unique, healthier alternative to traditional screens. We're really excited to dive into his journey and explore how Daylight is reshaping the future of tech for the better. In this episode, you will hear: How regular tablets and the Kindle compare to the Daylight Live Paper. Reinventing a computer to be healthier. Finding freedom with your device. Bringing a science-based approach to healthier computing. Why tech constraints mean more freedom. Daylight has built the world's first blue light-free, flicker-free, sunlight-visible computer display. Our goal is to build healthier computers that actually allow you to be a better version of yourself, instead of the worse version we often are with computers today. Computers today make you dumber, fatter, and sadder. Daylight is making computers that make you smarter, healthier, and happier. We just launched our first product the DC-1 tablet with our technology this summer, after a 6 year journey. Inspired by Anjan the founder's own personal difficulties with physical and mental health with computers - addicted, distracted, sleepless, and miserable. Anjan suffered from eye strain and disrupted sleep cycles, as well as worsening of ADHD symptoms from using modern computers. Resolving to do something about this, Anjan committed to reading only from paper which meant he had to print everything he wanted to read from a computer screen. He soon missed the convenience of computers. He became more enthralled with e-ink, buying and testing every e-ink device on the market. Finding these products were too slow to function as helpful, productive tools, Anjan hacked e-ink devices. Yet, they were too slow and ineffective to serve more practical computing needs. This journey led to Anjan innovating screen technology specifically suited for eye health and circadian rhythm preservation. Additionally, Anjan developed a vision for an entire operating system that prioritizes holistic health. After developing his first prototype, Anjan navigated the challenges of bringing the device to production. Through the long journey and the successful launch of Daylight's first product, Anjan has received overwhelming feedback of the life-changing effect of his product and vision. Thousands resonate with Anjan's belief in the potential for technology to enhance rather than detract from people's well-being. Daylight's goal is to offer alternative technology solutions that support your health, attention, freedom, and quest to live a more balanced life. Fat-Burning Man by Abel James (Video Podcast): The Future of Health & Performance
We're here today with Anjan Katta, founder of Daylight Computer, a company that aims to create devices that respect our health, attention and freedom, challenging the tech giants…
“We blame ourselves when these tools are actually mismatched for us,” says Anjan Katta, founder of the Daylight Computer company, which has made the first computer that is reverse-engineered to be good for us—or at least not harmful to our biology the way current models are. On today's episode of The Quantum Biology Collective podcast, he explains to host Meredith Oke just how his model works differently, eliminating blue light and flicker. He explains what happens when a normal laptop flickers, how it disrupts our circadian rhythm and affects our brain in a way that's similar to motion sickness, though we don't notice it until it becomes a major problem. Devices and screens, in their current state, are not only biological mismatches, but psychological ones as well, argues Anjan. He explains how living with ADHD led him to create the Daylight Computer, his plans for similar software and devices, and how technology could be a major tool to promote empathy and understanding. Join today's episode to learn how Daylight Computers will teach us how to forgive ourselves and how we can reclaim our sacred spaces. Quotes “I met the guy who invented the LCD screen… and he said, ‘If you told me that my grandkid would be spending six hours a day looking at one of these, I would have designed it differently.” (5:12 | Anjan Katta) “It's the humility of saying ‘Let's not start from Star Trek and Star Wars and from little boy fantasy and make something and then say, ‘Oops! We ruined everybody's health.' Let's start with health. Let's start with deep, empirical principles of nature. And then if the product is not as fantastical as you need it to be, that's OK, because at least we didn't hurt people. We didn't undermine their integrity and their sovereignty and their core, core being. And then we can try to make fantastical things over time.” (9:42 | Anjan Katta) “We've got to stop being so hard on ourselves because, yes, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, yeah it's going to be hard on itself. And to me, technology should be like, ‘Oh, you're a fish. Let's give you a river.' And that's kind of what motivated me. I'm a fish. Stop making me feel like an idiot by trying to get me to climb trees. What's a computer that fits me, that fits a fish, that's a river?” (34:18 | Anjan Katta) “We've removed all sacred spaces in society, including the bedrooms, by bringing these noisy, impolite, intrusive, bad-for-our-health, addictive portals. And it takes the meaning out of everything because everything is just the same.” (36:54 | Anjan Katta and Meredith One) Links Bon Charge Discount Code: at checkout enter the code: QBC to receive 15% off https://us.boncharge.com/collections/blue-light-blocking-glasses **If you're in the US and have a Health Savings Account (HSA or FSA) BonCharge products are an eligible expense** To order a limited beta version of the Daylight tablet, go to: https://daylightcomputer.com Password: DAYLIGHT Connect with Anjan Katta: https://twitter.com/AnjanKatta https://twitter.com/daylightco Instagram: @daylightco To receive a FREE infographic of the Ideal Circadian Day & join our email list: https://www.quantumbiologycollective.com/qbc-newsletter-aqb To find a practitioner who understands quantum biology: www.quantumbiologycollective.org To see details about the Applied Quantum Certification: www.appliedquantumbiology.com Follow on Instagram & Facebook: @quantumbiologycollecitve Twitter: @quantumhealthtv Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

LOOP 6.4: Prof. Anjan Bhullar continues his overview of avian evolution with a look at how the birds fared after the K-Pg mass extinction. What was it that allowed birds to survive when the non-avian dinosaurs died out? Why didn't they just become dinosaurs again? What have birds been able to achieve in the time since and how important are they to modern ecosystems. Not an episode to be missed (unless you're Prof. Dan Field). Life On Our Planet (LOOP) is a new 8-part series created for Netflix by Silverback Films and Amblin Television. This Steven Spielberg produced series, narrated by Morgan Freeman, is hugely ambitious in its scope, telling the story of life throughout the whole Phanerozoic Eon. Ancient organisms and environments are painstakingly recreated by the supremely talented Industrial Light and Magic, whilst modern natural history scenes add vital context to the story. This show has been worked on for six years, during which time countless papers were read and around 150 different palaeontologists contributed their time and knowledge. The whole production had culture of letting the scientific rese arch dictate scenes, resulting in one of the most accurate on-screen representations of prehistoric life there has ever been. And how do we know all this? Well, our very own team members Tom Fletcher and Dave Marshall have been embedded within the LOOP team since day one! We are therefore in a totally unique position to reveal to you the work that went into this series, from both the production and research side of things. In this unofficial series, we've been granted exclusive access to many of the people responsible for creating LOOP, we explore what it takes to create a palaeontological documentary and we delve deeper into the science with some of the show's academic advisors. Each day, we will be releasing batches of interviews, each relating to a specific episode of LOOP. Image courtesy and copyright of Netflix.
LOOP 6.2: Dr Anjan Bhullar, Yale University, returns to speak further about dinosaurs. He's pressed on where he'd draw the line between dinosaur and bird, or whether there should even be a distinction between them at all. At what point does flight evolve and was it ‘ground up' or ‘tree down'? We find out that none of these questions are simple. LOOP 5.3: We're exploring feather evolution with Dr Anjan Bhullar, University of Yale. We trace feathers up the theropod family tree and question whether or not they would be present in ALL dinosaurs. Anjan does NOT sit on the fence with this question or any other. Were dinosaurs brightly coloured? How intelligent were they? Do not miss some of these mind-blowing insights! Anjan Sundaram is an award-winning journalist who has written three books on African people and places: Democratic Republic of Congo in Stringer, Rwanda in Bad News and now Central African Republic in Breakup. Each of Anjan's books are glorious for their storytelling, told in great detail through years professional engagement with violence, war and genocide from the perspective of those living through it. I'm delighted to have Anjan with me today to talk about his forthcoming book: Break Up: A Marriage in Wartime (Catapult 2023). I read the book in a single sitting, for the prose is unflinching in its human rights reporting of the ongoing civil war in the Central African Republic. It is also about the demise of a marriage, meaning Break Up documents the ways in which war and marriage tear people apart. At the end of our interview, Anjan recommends A House Without Windows, a graphic novel by Didier Kassaï (Simon & Schuster 2021). Susan Thomson is Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Colgate University. I like to interview pretenure scholars about their research. I am particularly keen on their method and methodology, as well as the process of producing academic knowledge about African places and people. Learn more about your ad choices. Suella Braverman's plan to send refugees to Rwanda has been described as inhuman. But what is the country actually like? And what does the nation's Government get out of the deal? Award winning journalist Anjan Sundaram joins Arthur Snell on a deep-dive into a country few of us know, but is rarely out of headlines. Anjan describes life after the genocide, the Western blind-spot to present human rights abuses and the political coercion at the heart of the present regime. Anjan wrote about the persecution of journalists in Rwanda in his book ‘Bad News: Last Journalists in a Dictatorship'. His forthcoming book Breakup on the war in the Central African Republic will be published in May. “Rwanda is a surveillance state of the highest degree.” “Kagame has ruled over Rwanda for 30 years, and he has positioned himself as a global postcolonial leader.” “Partnering with the UK paints Rwanda as a safe haven instead of the dictatorship it is.” “During the genocide, the West did very little to intervene and Kagame has used that for his own political agenda.” https://www.patreon.com/bunkercast Written and presented by Arthur Snell. "It's not obvious how or why art meets a need. We don't eat it, we don't have sex with it. Yet we are drawn to it and we've been making art since the begining of civilization"Today's guest is Dr. Anjan Chatterjee, Neurology professor at the University of Pennlysvania. He is a prominent neurologist, former Chief of Neurology at the Pennsylvania Hospital. He is currently the founder and director of the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics, which studies the neural impact of aesthetic and artistic experiences. In his book “The Aesthetic Brain: how we evolved to desire beauty and enjoy art” he makes a compelling case for the intimate links between art and science and their common goal of getting insight into the human experience. For all his scientific pedigree Anjan also has an artist's sensibility. He teaches architecture, has a deep love for street art, and he moonlights as a photographer. In this conversation Anjan and I discussed:how our brain reacts to art and beauty, and how we process and assign meaning.the role of art in human experience and social change.art's potential for becoming an recognized medical treatment.the challenges of scientific research and evidence on a subject so vast and subjective as art. There's no way to cover the full extent of these questions in under 40mn but I hope you'll get enough food for thought! Thanks for listening ✨----------------------------------------------------------------------------
