Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. Star Wars television continues to make its way into headlines as Lucasfilm released first look images for Skeleton Crew, which will premiere on December 3. The show is run by Jon Watts and written by Christopher Ford, who both worked on the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, and stars Jude Law who plays a Force-user named Jod Na Nawood. But another Star Wars show, Lando, is not getting the greenlight. Director Justin Simien confirmed the television series starring Donald Glover is dead in the water even though a show bible, scripts, and concept art existed. The series was announced in 2020. Deadpool & Wolverine continued to make box office history and obliterate more records in its second week, jumping to a better-than-expected $97 million domestically and bringing its worldwide total to $824 million dollars. This is the eighth biggest second weekend of all time and the fifth biggest for an MCU title. Twisters dropped 37 percent its third weekend to $22.7 million for a domestic total of $195.6 million. M. Night Shyamalan‘s Trap opened in third place with an estimated $15.6 million, in line with expectations. This week the second season of House of the Dragon officially ended and fans have to wait two years until season three. To add fuel to the dragonfire, showrunner Ryan Condal announced that season four will be the last one for HOTD. In an adjacent move, HBO previewed brief, early first footage of A Knight of Seven Kingdoms, which will be another Game of Thrones prequel show featuring the characters Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. Paramount+ revealed a trailer for the Star Trek: Discovery spinoff movie Star Trek: Section 31, which stars Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou. This film will debut on Paramount+ sometime in early 2025. This week, Disney laid claim to a number of 2027 dates. The dates include marvel movies for July and November, a pixar movie in June, and a disney animation movie in November. Netflix announced that Squid Game will debut its long-awaited second season on December 26 and that a third and final season is set to premiere in 2025. HBO released preview footage of several eagerly anticipated new and returning series — including the second season of The Last of Us, the third season of The White Lotus, and the IT prequel series, IT: Welcome to Derry, among others. Jenna Ortega is in final talks to join JJ Abrams‘ secret untitled movie at Warner Bros. to star opposite Glen Powell, who is currently finalizing his deal. Very few details are known about the project at this time. A John Wick sequel series is in development at Lionsgate Television. Robert Levine is attached as writer and showrunner on the project, titled John Wick: Under the High Table. Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski will serve as executive producers. Apple TV+ set a fall premiere date for Season 2 of Shrinking. The dramedy starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford will be released on Wednesday, October 16th. Following the acclaim of his most recent film Dream Scenario, director Kristoffer Borgli is reuniting with A24 for The Drama, with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in early negotiations to star. Christmas is now the release date for the Timothee Chalamet-led Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.

Based on the award-winning, bestselling memoir from Mark Critch ("This Hour Has 22 Minutes"), SON OF A CRITCH is the hilarious and very real story of a young Mark coming of age in the 1980s. The series is a heartfelt window in the life of a child-who is much older inside than his 14 years-using comedy and self-deprecation to win friends and connect with the small collection of people in his limited world. The comedy stars Mark Critch as his father, Mike, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Pinocchio) as young Mark. Claire Rankin (Molly's Game) stars as Mark's mother, Mary, alongside newcomers Sophia Powers and Mark Rivera, who play classmates of young Mark. Colton Gobbo ("Ginny & Georgia") plays Mark's older brother, Mike Jr., and Golden Globe® and SAG nominee Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Bombshell) also stars as Patrick "Pop" Critch. Mark has always been a late bloomer and in season 3, we see him finally start to bloom. As the season begins, we find that Mark has anxiously made his first awkward steps into junior high. Yes indeed. He's now in ninth grade and should be king of the castle. One year on top before the cycle starts anew in high school where he'll find himself once again at the bottom rung. Until then, ninth grade brings the promise of being the Big Man On Campus. But is Mark ready for junior high? When we first met Mark back in season 1, he had no idea how to navigate the school yard. But now, after three long years - he still has no idea how to navigate the school yard. He hasn't learned to fit in, but he has accepted the reasons why he stands out. While Fox (Sophia Powers) grows into a part-time parent role at home to fill in the gap left by her father and Ritche (Mark Rivera) grows ever more comfortable in his skin, Mark seems more than happy to cling onto the last few moments of childhood. But as our season grows, so does Mark. Pushed by his peers, he casts off the last vestiges of boyhood. It all culminates in the final episode when Mark, Fox and Ritche wander the school at night as they say goodbye to their old alma mater as they contemplate what the next school year in a bigger building holds in store for them. SON OF A CRITCH is created by Mark Critch and Tim McAuliffe ("The Office," "Last Man on Earth") and produced by Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winning producer Andrew Barnsley ("Schitt's Creek"). The series is a co-production between Barnsley's Project 10 Productions Inc. and Take the Shot Productions in association with CBC and Lionsgate Television, which handles worldwide distribution rights. SON OF A CRITCH is executive produced by Critch, McAuliffe, Andrew Barnsley, and Allan Hawco. Renuka Jeyapalan, Perry Chafe, Anita Kapila and Amanda Joy serve as co-executive producers. You can learn a lot by looking at the past. Especially at an era that shaped how we think of marketing today. Today, we're traveling back in time. And we're doing it in style.Come with us to Madison Avenue in the 1960s, a formative time for advertising and marketing. It was the “Mad Men” that walked so the 21st Century marketers could run. And even though we're equipped with technology, AI and all sorts of new digital tools, many of the cares and struggles feel familiar. But we're not just turning to the past today to commiserate. We're looking at case studies and learning from the classic masters of marketing…through the lens of Hollywood, of course. In this episode, we're turning to the series that brought marketing into pop culture and earned Lionsgate $26 million a year: Mad Men. Joining us is VP & Head of Marketing at G2, Palmer Houchins. Palmer and the Remarkable team are discussing how to balance delivering on your brand promise with connecting emotionally with your audience, being persistent with marketing ideas, and paying attention to all the little details. So put on your sharkskin suit and wingtip oxfords for this episode of Remarkable.About our guest, Palmer HouchinsPalmer Houchins is the VP, Head of Marketing at G2. He previously served as a senior marketing leader and G2 customer at Mailchimp (acquired by Intuit) and CallRail ($125M+ in funding). He is a veteran marketer with 15+ years of experience growing businesses, scaling teams and building brands.About G2G2 is the largest and most trusted software marketplace, helping 80 million people every year make smarter software decisions based on authentic peer reviews.About Mad MenMad Men is a drama series about a prestigious New York ad agency called Sterling Cooper in the 1960s focusing on debauched ad executive Don Draper, who's played by Jon Hamm. It also stars Elisabeth Moss, Christina Hendricks, January Jones, John Slattery and Vincent Kartheizer. The series was created by Matthew Weiner and produced by Lionsgate Television. It aired from 2007 to 2015. According to the pilot episode, the name “Mad Men” is short for Madison Men, or the men that worked on Madison Avenue in New York City. It won 16 Emmys, five Golden Globes, a Peabody award, averaged 2 million viewers over its run, and made Lionsgate about $26 million a year. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Mad Men:Be persistent. If you have a cool idea for a marketing campaign, don't let it drop. It's only a matter of time before that idea becomes your next success. Writer Matthew Weiner wrote the script for Mad Men in 2001, but it didn't get picked up until four years later. Palmer says, “Matthew Weiner was writing this script on his off time at The Sopranos where he was a writer and just had it in his back pocket. And he just kept trying to get it made, get it made, no one was interested. And then boom, this happens and it becomes one of the most successful shows of all time.” So hold onto those good ideas and advocate for them. If you believe they're good ideas and worthy of being created, act with conviction.Pay attention to the details. Make sure every part of your design and marketing aligns with your brand. The logos, font, pictures, the messaging, are all a part of your image. Just like how every detail of the set and costuming in Mad Men are meticulously styled to make the viewer feel like they're in New York City in the 1960s. According to an article by Zooey Norman on ScreenRant.com, “Every single secretary's desk included a small Rolodex in which each and every card was filled out with addresses and contact information. Their desks also contained documents formatted and filled out to appear like real notices, letters, and memos in order to create the illusion of a truly functional office.” That's the level of detail you want to get into in your marketing. Every element matters.Deliver on your brand promise first, connect emotionally with your audience second. There's a scene in Mad Men when they're trying to win the Burger Chef business, and Peggy goes to the restaurant to do a focus group. Her goal is to hone in on the emotions of customers and what resonates with them. Palmer says, “you want that emotional connection, but your products also have to deliver on that basic thing. And so in a B2B context, we want to have that aspirational element. But we've also got to be able to just simply deliver on kind of a functional ROI level as well.” So focus on your brand promise first before tying it to emotional connection as well.Quotes*”Too often we fall into that trap, and the same thinking of, ‘Well, this is popular, so we're just going to keep doing more of that,' and not going against the grain, or zagging when everyone else is zigging. And I think that [Mad Men] is a testament to that thinking, especially as it relates to creativity.” - Palmer Houchins“You can spend weeks and months and years crafting the perfect copy, but in our world, it's going to get A/B tested, it's going to get split tested, and the distribution of getting that out in front of people [isn't] linear. You have to know that that piece of copy that you spend so much time writing, that might not be the first thing they see about your brand. That might be the 500th. That might be after they've already talked to a salesperson. It might be before. There's so much more complexity to marketing now.” - Ian Faison*”There's a lot of nostalgia in this show. They're using real products, like Coke, Heinz beans, Burger Chef, Hilton, Lucky Strike and Jaguar. Because they're real, it's cool to see an ad campaign for super common household brands. Giving the listener or the viewer some signposts that they're familiar with will go a long way.” - Ian Faison“I think nostalgia is a part of it, but as someone who wasn't alive during the 60s, for me, it was almost like this exploration of history; a time to kind of live in that. And I think using real products, real elections and real world events is how they earmark it. It helps you tether to a different era.” - Palmer HouchinsTime Stamps[0:55] Meet Palmer Houchins, VP & Head of Marketing at G2[1:32] Why are we covering Mad Men?[4:30] What does Palmer do at G2?[6:09] What is Mad Men about?[7:16] How was Mad Men made?[13:47] What makes Mad Men remarkable?[25:16] What are marketing lessons we can take away from Mad Men?LinksWatch Mad MenConnect with Palmer on LinkedInLearn more about G2About Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. We spoke with Ryan Hansen, Martin Starr, Tyrel Jackson Williams, and Zoë Chao about what it was like coming together to continue the cult classic Party Down. Chao said she watched the show while working at a restaurant (before her big break) and felt less alone, so when she got the chance to hop on board, she said yes and spoke about her funniest moment. Williams said he spent time researching but knew he was entering a show where he was a fan of everyone and was looking forward to working with this stellar cast. Meanwhile, Hansen and Starr kept the conversation funny as the two talked about trees, mountains, peaks, and valleys -- but also returning and chasing dreams. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Polina Jdanova Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Ten years later, most of the Party Down catering team have moved on, including actor/bartender Henry Pollard (Adam Scott, “Severance,” “Parks and Recreation”). After a surprise reunion, the gang find themselves once again stoically enduring the procession of random parties and oddball guests all over Los Angeles. Scott reprises his role alongside original cast members Ken Marino (“The Other Two,” “Veronica Mars”), Jane Lynch (“Glee,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Martin Starr (Knocked Up, “Silicon Valley”), Ryan Hansen (“Bless this Mess,” “Veronica Mars”) and Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace,” “The Great North”). Previously announced new cast members joining in on the fun include Jennifer Garner (The Adam Project, Yes Day), Tyrel Jackson Williams (Thunder Force, “Brockmire”), and Zoë Chao (“Love Life,” “The Afterparty”). James Marsden (Disenchanted, “Dead to Me”) is set to recur as a guest star. The third season is executive produced by “Party Down” alumni Rob Thomas (“Veronica Mars,” “iZombie”), John Enbom (“iZombie,” “Benched,”), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Dan Etheridge (“Veronica Mars,” iZombie”) and Adam Scott (“Severance,” “Parks and Recreation”). Enbom also serves as showrunner. “Party Down” is produced for STARZ by Lionsgate Television. *Party Down premieres on Starz February 24, 2023. We also have a great record collection, and welcome any additions, recommendations or criticisms. http://www.gasismusic.co.uk According to Wikipedia... Donald Francis Draper, born Richard “Dick” Whitman, is a fictional character and the protagonist of the AMC television series Mad Men (2007–2015), portrayed by Jon Hamm. Up to the Season 3 finale, Draper was creative director of fictional Manhattan advertising firm Sterling Cooper. He then became a founding partner at a new firm, Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, after he and his superiors left their previous agency in advance of an unwanted acquisition. The agency later merged with a rival firm, Cutler Gleason & Chaough, to become Sterling Cooper & Partners while pursuing a contract from Chevrolet. The character of Don Draper is partially inspired by Draper Daniels, a creative director at Leo Burnett advertising agency in Chicago in the 1950s, who worked on the Marlboro Man campaign; and by Bill Backer, an advertising executive at McCann Erickson who created the "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke" ad in 1971. Mad Men is an American period drama television series created by Matthew Weiner and produced by Lionsgate Television. It ran on the cable network AMC from July 19, 2007, to May 17, 2015, lasting for seven seasons and 92 episodes. Its fictional time frame runs from March 1960 to November 1970. Mad Men begins at the fictional Sterling Cooper advertising agency on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, New York City, and continues at the new firm of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce (later named Sterling Cooper & Partners) near the Time-Life Building at 1271 Sixth Avenue. According to the pilot episode, the phrase "Mad men" was a slang term coined in the 1950s by advertisers working on Madison Avenue to refer to themselves, "Mad" being short for "Madison" (in reality, the only documented use of the phrase from that time may have been in the late-1950s writings of James Kelly, an advertising executive and writer). The series's main character is the charismatic advertising executive Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm), who is initially the talented creative director at Sterling Cooper. He is erratic and mysterious but is widely regarded throughout the advertising world as a genius; some of the most famous advertisement campaigns in history are shown to be his creations. with @RMcElhenney @cdixon @smc90This first live taping of 'web3 with a16z' took place an event hosted by a16z crypto & Adim during NFT NYC June 20, 2022 -- with special guest Rob McElhenney* in conversation with Chris Dixon and Sonal Chokshi. Given the theme of "decentralized media"/ "decentralized content creation", the conversation covers decentralized creativity and collaboration; community, creator access; IP and evolution of the internet; and where NFTs and web3 specifically comes in... do we really need web3 for this? We also touch on topics such as the metaverse, storytelling across mediums, managing writer's rooms, favorite TV shows, nostalgia, and much more.*Rob McElhenney is the creative force behind It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the critically-acclaimed FXX comedy series in which he co-stars and serves as executive producer and writer; the fifteenth season premiered in December 2021, breaking the record as the longest-running live-action television sitcom in history. He is also the creator, executive producer, and star of Mythic Quest, the acclaimed comedy series that debuted on Apple TV+ (co-created by Megan Ganz and Charlie Day, and a co-production of Ubisoft and Lionsgate Television); it was recognized as one of the best new series of 2020. McElhenney is the co-founder and co-chairperson of Adim, which brings web3 technology to creative development to build a new model and value network for creators and collaborators to have a stake in the success and evolution of what they create -- initially through a scaled network of writer's rooms and through a platform for a broad character ecosystem. **As a reminder, none of this is investment, legal, business, or tax advice; please see a16z.com/disclosures for more important information, including a link to a list of our investments.

Forresten... The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Hannah Simone of Fox's New Girl and Kicking and Screaming. Hannah Simone is a British-Canadian television hostess, actress, and former fashion model. From May 2006 to November 2008, she worked as a VJ for MuchMusic in Canada, and is best known for portraying Cece Parekh on the Fox sitcom New Girl. Hosted by Hannah Simone, KICKING & SCREAMING is a new competition series that teams 10 expert survivalists with pampered partners to face the toughest challenges of their lives. From executive producer Matt Kunitz (“Wipeout,” “Fear Factor”), in association with Lionsgate Television, and hosted by HannahSimone (NEW GIRL), the series drops these unlikely duos into a tropical jungle in Fiji, where they must overcome dangerous animals, raging rivers, hunger and extreme weather. While these no-nonsense survivalists are accustomed to fending for themselves, there's one thing for which none of their previous expeditions have prepared them: their nature-phobic partners, who think “glamping” is roughing it. To win the competition, and a cash prize of $500,000, the experts will have to drag their partners, KICKING & SCREAMING, to the finish line.
