Ata bin Ebû Rebâh (r.âleyh), hocası İbn-i Abbas (r.a.)'den şöyle rivayet etmiştir: “Ebû Talib'in oğulları, sabah uykudan kalktıkları zaman gözleri hep çapaklı olurdu. Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.)'in gözleri ise tertemiz ve son derece parlak olurdu. O, kendi çocuklarını ve Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.)'i sofraya çağırır, onun oğulları derhal sofrada ne varsa kapışırlardı. O (s.a.v.) gelir, hep beraber yerlerdi. Sofraya konulan yemeği bitiremezlerdi. Eğer Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.) sofrada bulunmazsa, hiçbiri doymazdı. Süt içtikleri zaman da önce Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.) içerdi. Kalanı ise ev halkının hepsine yeter, hepsi süte kanardı. Amcası, kendisine hitaben “Oğlum, sen gerçekten mübarek bir çocuksun” derdi. Ümmü Eymen (r.anhâ) demiştir ki: “Ben, hiçbir zaman Peygamber (s.a.v.)'in açlıktan veya susuzluktan şikâyet ettiğine rastlamadım. Sabahleyin Harem-i Şerif'e gider Zemzem'den içerdi. Bazen kendisine sabah kahvaltısını sunardık. O da yemek istemez ve: “Ben şimdi tokum” derdi.” (Celaleddin es-Suyuti, Peygamberimizin Mucizeleri ve Büyük Özellikleri, s.148-149)

Show Summary In this episode, Linda Abraham discusses successful secondary applications for medical school. She highlights the key differences between primary and secondary applications and provides 6 tips for submitting a successful secondary application. Additionally, Linda offers practical advice on when to submit and how to write concisely to meet word or character limits as well as how to check these crucial documents before you hit SUBMIT.  Show Notes Welcome to the 578th episode of Admissions Straight Talk. Thanks for tuning in. Are you ready to apply to your dream medical schools? Are you competitive at your target programs? Accepted's Med School Admissions Quiz will give you a quick reality check. Just go to accepted.com/medquiz, complete the quiz, and you will not only get an assessment of your chances, but tips on how to improve them. And it's all free.  Today is going to be a solo show, and we're going to be discussing successful secondaries. Given that the show is airing on May 28th and AMCAS is just starting to process the primary applications today, I think the show is extraordinarily timely. You can't submit your secondaries yet if you don't have them, but for those of you who submitted or will submit early, in other words, your primary application sometime in June, this show really couldn't be better timed. For those of you planning to submit later in the cycle, you can take advantage of it as soon as you submit your primary applications, and there may be even a tip or two for you regarding the primary in the course of the show. So if you are in either group, perhaps you submit it today or will submit very shortly, or perhaps you're the parent or significant other of someone in either of these two groups, in other words, somebody submitting early or somebody submitting later in this cycle, congratulations, you or a very important person to you is progressing down the path to medical school and achievement of his or her career dreams. Now, applicants still have a long, grueling journey in front of them, but the next leg consists of the secondary applications, and that's the topic of today's show, which as I mentioned, I'm going to present. It's going to be a solo show. Going back to the timeliness part of the show, once you have submitted your primary, give yourself a day or two off. Don't even think about medical school applications. If you have to study, study for school. If you can take a break, take a break, go to the beach, go for a hike, do whatever you love to do, and then start pre-writing your secondaries. You had your break, get back to business. Secondary application questions tend to change little from year to year, and one thing that is very consistent is that they come in a deluge, and if you can have drafts of essays ready for final tweaks for the programs that you are most interested in, especially if those programs automatically send out secondaries without any screening, you'll have a much easier time when those secondary applications start raining down upon you. And your essay responses – your applications – will probably be of better quality if at least some or most of those essays are pre-written and written at a time when you don't have the time pressure you're inevitably going to experience when the deluge starts. Primary vs. secondary applications [3:51] Now, let's start by discussing conceptually what secondary applications are and the similarities and differences between them and the primary applications that you have been working so hard on or will be shortly working so hard on. For those of you new to the process, for MD applicants, secondary applications are sent out after medical schools have received your AMCAS or your primary application. It could be the AACOMAS, the TMDSAS... Actually, I think TDMDSAS doesn't send secondaries. It does it simultaneously. But for MD applicants, secondary applications are sent out after medical scho...

Show Summary In this episode, Linda Abraham interviews Christian Essman, Senior Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Case Western Reserve University Medical School. They discuss the unique aspects of Case Western's three MD programs, the significance of research in the application process, and what makes an applicant stand out. Christian emphasizes the importance of quality experiences and reflections in the application essays and advises applicants to submit their applications when they are in tip-top shape, rather than rushing to submit on the first day. He also discusses the culture at Case Western, describing it as laid-back, balanced, and invested in the success of its students. [1:31] Hi, Linda. Delighted to be here. Thank you for having me. Let's start with some just really basic information about Case Western University's medical school programs. Can you give a 30,000-foot perspective or view of the three MD programs that it offers? [1:39] Certainly. We're a bit unique in that we have not one, not two, but three different pathways to an MD/MD-PhD. The first one is the university program, which is our four-year MD, which is a traditional four-year degree. Then we have our MD-PhD program, which is a medical scientist training program, and that's about eight or nine years. MSTP actually started at Case Western back in the 1950s, by the way. It's the longest NIH-funded program ever in the history of the universe. And then the one in the middle is unique. I don't know if the word boutiquey is a word, but it's boutiquey. Our Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. So these are all three Case Western programs. They're under the umbrella of the university and they're all Case Western students, but we have three tracks. So the one in the middle, the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, is a five-year MD and it's for students who really like research. Really, really, really like research. But maybe advancing to an MD-PhD is not an educational goal to be in school for eight or nine years and getting a PhD, but they really like research. And so the reason why it's five years is because they thread research throughout the entire five years that you're there. And at one point students will step away usually after the second year to do 12 months of research with the results of hopefully having some publishable results. And so it's for students who might be considering MD-PhD, maybe they're also applying to MD-PhD. So it's one in the middle there and so that's why we have three different tracks. It's a bit unique. It is unique. I don't know of any other school that has that three structured program. [3:36] When people apply to us in AMCAS, they apply to Case Western and then in the secondary application, they can indicate which program or programs plural that they want to apply to. And so you could apply to the university program and the Cleveland Clinic program and then you get separate admissions decisions. We review them separately. So it's two for one or three for one if you want to think of it that way. But I will say this. Very few students apply to all three. Usually, if you're interested in MD-PhD, that's what you're applying to, and then maybe add in Cleveland Clinic,

The  describes its fundamental mission as promoting human health, with an emphasis on leadership and clinical care. It is looking for students with a strong background in the fundamentals of science who want to apply that work in a clinical setting. The school's curriculum emphasizes early patient contact along with full integration of the sciences.Because the Tufts medical school is focused on classes where there is a dynamic environment with a great deal of peer-to-peer work, you should emphasize your ability to lead and contribute to a medical school class in your application. Tufts Medical School secondary application essay questions Tufts secondary essay #1 Do you wish to include any comments (in addition to those already provided in your AMCAS application) to the Admissions Committee at Tufts University School of Medicine? Please explain briefly. (1000 characters) You can use this space to write about anything not in the AMCAS. Be sure you do not repeat your personal statement. This is a good place to indicate anything specific about Tufts or about your personal background that relates to your med school application. Some applicants use this space to write about a personal experience that is particularly relevant and not included elsewhere in their application. Others write about a personal circumstance, an opportunity or job offer that arose at some point after they submitted the AMCAS primary application. This is also a great place to say why you want to attend Tufts Medical School. Tufts secondary essay #2 Please briefly describe your plans for the coming year. Include in this explanation if you will be a student, working, conducting research, volunteering, etc. (1000 characters) A thousand characters is approximately 200 words – not a lot. Discuss what you plan to do in the upcoming year that most shows your fit with Tufts' vision, mission, and values. If you are a rising senior, will you have any leadership positions? What do you hope to accomplish in those roles? What research, if any, will you conduct? What community service will you do? Where will you participate as a clinician? If you are taking a gap year, show, as discussed in this Admissions Straight Talk episode, that it's going to be a growth year. What will you accomplish at work? How will you immerse yourself in different populations? Will you work as a scribe (excellent clinical exposure)? Will you participate in a research project? Be included as an author? Highlight plans that demonstrate your commitment to medicine as Tufts sees it and that indicate that you will be a valuable member of the school's next incoming class. Tufts secondary essay #3 How might you contribute to the diversity of the student body of Tufts University School of Medicine? (1000 characters) For this question, you should consider diversity in all its forms: race, ethnicity, language, family background, economic circumstances, education, gender identity, sexuality, ability, and past experience. Consider how you might interact with a diverse group of medical students and contribute to your class. It is not enough to simply say that you are diverse; you need to explain how that makes you a more appealing applicant. If you are struggling to come up with ways to describe your individuality, I encourage you to interpret the question broadly and explain how your experiences make you a unique and worthwhile candidate who is going to contribute a special background, perspective, or experience to Tuft's class. Tufts secondary essay #4 Given how the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the world these past few years, please contextualize how your experiences have been affected which might include your personal, professional and educational journey. (1000 characters) It is true, COVID-19 derailed the majority of volunteer work, shadowing, academic research, internships and MCAT plans for medical school applicants. The good news, though,

Episode 96. This episode is based on the 2024 application cycle. Some dates for deadlines may change from year to year; however, many of the details of the application itself will remain the same, so this episode is helpful if you applying during future application years as well! Pay attention to the date when schools can start reviewing your application. Aim to have your application submitted and verified by that date so that you can be in the first batch of applications. It may take weeks for your application to be verified, so the earlier you can submit, the better. If you don't have everything ready in time for that date, it is still worth applying that cycle, but you are likely not to receive as many invitations for secondaries and interviews. Most schools have rolling deadlines and will continue to review applications after the initial release. Work on your personal comments essay (personal statement) and the work & activities section ahead of time. You don't have to wait for the application to open before drafting these statements. These essays are one of the most important if not the most important part of your application, so it is very much worth it to invest in professional services to look over this part of your application. See episode 92 for more tips for the personal statement and a timeline of the application season. Medical School Application Personal Statement Editing Service: https://www.fiverr.com/share/8YmpP4 The Princeton Review has stated that at some schools the personal statement accounts for over 60% of your total admission score. AMCAS: opens May 2nd for 2024 cycle. Submission begins May 30th. Transmission to medical schools June 30th. AACOMAS: opens May 4th. Schools start to receive apps June 15th. Application season calendar: April- write your personal statement and think about what you want to include in your work and activities section  May- finalize your personal statement and get multiple rounds of editing and proofreading if you haven't already, work on getting letters of recommendations in and getting a copy of your transcript, finalize the list of schools you'll be applying to June- finalize your application (if you haven't already), prepare for secondary essays July- write secondary essays and submit them as quickly as possible, start preparing for interviews by doing a few mock sessions August (to as late as April)- interviews My personal statement tips: You have 5300 characters. Use them wisely! If you are describing a patient, stick to 2 sentences max. If you are using a quote, it shouldn't take up more than one line of text. The statement should truly answer the question of why you want to be a physician. Back this up with your qualities and experience while telling your unique story. Be cautious about reading samples online. Use stream of consciousness writing. If you're an external processor, it may help to brainstorm with someone.  Don't think you need to have a 3-pronged thesis or a 5 paragraph format. It should be in whatever format makes the most sense. Reflect on your experiences instead of just stating things that you've done.  You need a separate statement if you are applying to MD and DO. Your answer to the question “why do you want to be a doctor?” can help you determine whether MD-PhD programs are right for you. MD-PhD programs accept exceptionally bright and motivated applicants interested in becoming physician-scientists – this means that instead of focusing your time and efforts on clinical work, you will commit your life to scientific innovation and research. In addition to the demanding curriculum and extended period of study (7-8 years!), MD-PhD application procedures typically involve additional components and supplementary interviews. Whether you are applying through AMCAS, TMDSAS, or OMSAS, you will be required to submit additional essay components explaining why you are the right fit for the MD-PhD program of your choice along with your AMCAS personal statement, AMCAS Work and Activities, or TMDSAS application. On this podcast, you will learn everything you need to know about MD-PhD programs, including a list of schools that offer MD-PhD programs, how to apply, and 5 tips to get accepted!

Your AMCAS personal statement is one of the most important components of your AMCAS application. When the AMCAS application service opens in early May, your brain will be overloaded with lists upon lists of requirements and data points to collect. These include letters of recommendation, verifiers, contact information and transcripts. It will feel like a lot and, yet, you will eventually make it happen because you will have read the AMCAS application instruction manual closely to avoid a returned or incomplete application or, worse yet, an investigation into your application. In this podcast, you will learn our tips for writing an outstanding AMCAS personal statement. Additionally, you will get to hear sample AMCAS medical school personal statement examples that will inspire you to write your own.

The AMCAS Work and Activities most meaningful experiences are essentially the most significant experiences that stand out among the other activities you add in your AMCAS application (required for all medical school applications in the US, except Texas). In the AMCAS Work and Activities section, you are asked to provide up to 15 employment, research, volunteer, and extracurricular activities, out of which you can identify a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 as "most meaningful experiences". We discuss the fundamentals of the AMCAS Work and Activities elsewhere, so in this blog, we're going to pay special attention to these “most meaningful experiences”. While all of the AMCAS Work and Activities entries are significant in the overall evaluation of your application, the most important aspect of the Work and Activities section are these “most meaningful experiences”.

Are you interested in Georgetown University's School of Medicine? In this blog post, we give our advice on tackling the school's secondary essays and interview Dr. Ellen Dugan, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Admissions. Georgetown University School of Medicine 2022 - 2023 secondary application essay questions Given the Jesuit influence at Georgetown and its adoption of the Cura Personalis philosophy, I recommend covering your clinical, research and community service experience for Georgetown's secondary application essay. The school places special emphasis on training physicians to treat medically underserved communities. Highlight your personal connections, volunteer work and leadership roles in medically underserved communities. Georgetown Medical School short essay question #1 The Georgetown University School of Medicine (GUSOM) strives to ensure that its students become respectful physicians, with cultural humility, who embrace all dimensions of caring for the whole person. With our Jesuit values of Cura Personalis, People for Others, and Community in Diversity, we are steadfast in our commitment to racial justice and to addressing the health inequities exacerbated by the recent pandemic. Please describe how your values, life experiences, and your identity will contribute to these GUSOM priorities. (1,000 characters) This prompt for Georgetown replaces one that broadly asked to hear that you are compassionate and holistic. How do you embrace the Jesuit values as specified in the prompt (research them) and at the same time advocate for equity and justice for all? (You do not need to profess being Jesuit if that is not your truth, but all applicants would wisely explain their identification with these values and how they came to be instilled in your character.) How does doing so correspond with being humble?  How does being humble and righteous for equity define a physician's character? How did the pandemic reveal stark inequity and racial bias? Explain this. What can others expect from you regarding how you uphold these values as ideals and actions? Georgetown Medical School short essay question #2 Is there any further information that you would like the Committee on Admissions to be aware of when reviewing your file that you were not able to notate in another section of this or the AMCAS Application? (1,000 characters) This would be the best place to cover any academic difficulties that you have overcome, whether you've retaken courses, created an increasing trend in your GPA or retaken the MCAT for a higher score. Focusing on those areas of the application that you have successfully improved can provide compelling evidence of your academic potential and how you will perform in medical school. If this approach is not relevant to your application, you can use this section to update the committee on new publications, activities or awards that may not be on the AMCAS application. Discuss what you have been doing since you started the application process. Georgetown Medical School long essay question Why have you chosen to apply to the Georgetown University School of Medicine and how do you think your education at Georgetown will prepare you to become a physician for the future? (3,000 characters) Since this is such a long essay, it will be helpful to draw upon your previous experiences to demonstrate why your values align with those of Georgetown. Use 1-3 concrete, specific examples to explain how and why you will integrate easily into their study body. The second part of this essay prompt requires that you focus on the future. After researching their curriculum and special programs, you can explain how each of these will enhance your medical education. Make a list and use this as an outline to guide your response. Focus on the most important points last; they may be forgotten if you include them at the beginning of such a long essay. For that reason,

Dr. Murray graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor's in Biology and Biological Sciences. She immediately started medical school at NYMC and graduated in 1991. She then did her residency in OB/GYN also at NYMC and has been an attending physician and Associate Professor at NYMC since 2003. She became the Associate Dean for Admissions for the School of Medicine at NYMC in 2018.  Can you give us an overview of NYMC's approach to medical education focusing on its more distinctive elements? [2:23] New York Medical College has recently undergone a revamping of its curriculum. This was geared toward the changes that are happening with the USMLE. Unlike the traditional medical school where you had two years of full, straight lecture courses followed by two years of clinical, we are actually starting our clinicals early.  They start out during the first year with the fundamentals, which go from August to March. Then, starting in March of your first year, you start your systems. Your systems-based learning goes from April of your first year and continues through to February of your second year. Usually somewhere between the end of February and March, you take the Step 1, and immediately after that, you start your clinicals. Your clinicals start in April of your second year and run through into your fourth year and graduation. We've put a little bit more clinical in there and start the clinical a little earlier. A lot of students go to medical school because they really want to put that white coat on and get out and start seeing patients. You do see some of that in your first year during your fundamentals. You may have a preceptor you meet with once a week. Then your core clinical rotations start at the end of your second year like prior to getting into the third year. So students have a little bit more than two years of clinical rotations? [3:54] Absolutely. Yes. Is there anything that you would like listeners to know about New York Medical College or perhaps a myth that you would like to dispel? [4:10] New York Medical College follows a holistic review of the application and the applicant. This is something that comes from AMCAS where we use the E-A-M model which stands for Experience-Attributes-Metrics and each is weighted equally. Your experience comes from whatever kind of medical research clinical experience you may have that you put in your application. Your metrics are pretty obvious. That would be your MCAT or your GPA. Your attributes come from your personal statement, the MMI interview, and any letters of recommendation that you have.

He's very close to earning his PhD in Higher Education Administration from Liberty University. After working for several years in high school athletics, Mike moved into the admissions world at Randolph-Macon College. He then was Assistant Director of Admissions at the University of Houston and came to Tulane Medical in 2017 as Assistant Director of Admissions. In 2019, he became the Director of Admissions.  Can you give us an overview of Tulane Medical's approach to med ed, focusing on the more distinctive elements? [2:26] Every medical school has its own features, characteristics, mission, values, etc. Tulane University School of Medicine really focuses on whole body preventative medicine. We're in the heart of New Orleans and we focus on serving the underserved population. Our school has 20+ student-run clinics. We have a culinary medicine center that helps our students learn and also has ties with the community. We conduct research that also helps the population here in New Orleans. Our tagline is, “We heal communities, we heal people” and all of that fits strongly into our mission.  What would you like listeners to know about Tulane Medical that many applicants don't realize? Are there any myths that you would like to dispel? [3:28] If you're known for one thing, people just assume that you don't do the other thing. We are known for our community service and our student-run clinics so people just assume we don't have any research opportunities. That's far from the truth. As I said earlier, we do have a lot of research that really focuses on the populations we serve here. We have an aging center, a cancer center, and also the Louisiana Cancer Centers right across the street from us. Our students really get opportunities in both those areas. We do have a primate center where we have a lot of primary research going on there. Our latest thing that we just got a huge grant for is developing a whooping cough vaccine. How does New Orleans impact the student experience at Tulane Medical? [5:18] It's interesting because if anyone has been to New Orleans, they'll know it is a very culturally diverse city. It's very laid-back. The culture of the city actually seeps into our medical school. We don't take ourselves too seriously here. During Mardi Gras festivals, you'll see faculty members and students having fun together.

9 Ekim 1504'te Kâbil'i fethedip kendisine başkent yaptı. Aynı zamanda Gazne'yi alarak birkaç yıl içinde Afganistan'ın büyük bir kısmını kaplayan bir krallık kurdu. İstikbâlini Hindistan'da aramaya karar verdi. Hindistan'ı fethetmek üzere Kâbil'den hareket etti. 21 Mayıs 1526'da, yani Batı Türkleri'nin Mohaç zaferinden birkaç ay önce, Pânîpât meydan muharebesini 7 saat içinde kazandı. Sultan İbrahim Lûdî'nin 100.000 asker ve 1.000 filden müteşekkil ordusunu yok etti. Bu anda Hindistan Türk imparatorluğu tâcı, Lûdîler'den Bâbur'a, yani Timuroğulları'na geçmişti.
