Bonnie Elizabeth Parker (October 1, 1910 – May 23, 1934) and Clyde Chestnut "Champion" Barrow (March 24, 1909 – May 23, 1934) were American outlaws who traveled the Central United States with their gang during the Great Depression, committing a series of criminal acts such as bank robberies, kidnappings, and murders between 1932 and 1934. The couple were known for their bank robberies and multiple murders, although they preferred to rob small stores or rural gas stations. Their exploits captured the attention of the American press and its readership during what is occasionally referred to as the "public enemy era" between 1931 and 1934. They were ambushed by police and shot dead in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. They are believed to have murdered at least nine police officers and four civilians.[1][2]

Graeme Simpfendorfer was a decorated Victorian police officer. He used good old-fashioned policing to convict an arsonist who deliberately lit a fire in a shopping strip on the NSW/Victoria border. His hunch proved right. Later, Graeme worked in the prestigious Victorian Police Homicide Squad, where he obtained two departmental commendations for solving difficult, high-profile murders. Graeme tells host Brent Sanders about solving the arson case and how he helped put a man behind bars in relation to an infamous roadside armed hold-up, 27 years after the crime occurred. The psychology of this policing is like no other, and requires a particular set of skills. For Anthony Macklin, it suited his attention to detail and unrelenting work ethic. He was dedicated to his work, and to the force. But, when bureaucracy and the decisions of those above him meant an offender slipped through the net - he had to rethink his career. Anthony Macklin is a former Detective Inspector in the NSW Police. He worked tirelessly in the force, and took on several high ranking positions across a number of stations. Now, he works alongside former Crime Insiders guest, Danny Mikati, as a private investigator. Join host Brent Sanders as he unpacks Anthony's career and gets to know the man behind the badge. 10 years ago, Sydney came to a standstill. A lone gunman took 18 hostages captive inside the Lindt Café, some of whom escaped, others were trapped for 16 harrowing hours. The siege ended in the deaths of two innocent people—Tori Johnson, executed by the terrorist, and Katrina Dawson, struck by a ricochet from a police bullet when the Tactical Operations Unit stormed the building. In the aftermath, public outrage boiled over as the government and police were heavily criticised for their handling of the crisis. So what really happened behind the scenes? In this episode, hear two firsthand accounts from those who lived it. Crime Insiders is hosted by Brent Sanders and Kathryn Fox. Guests in this episode include Danny Mikati and Chris Craner. In 1998 Bags (Bagally) woke up and felt like painting – nothing in particular, just buying a brush and painting. And something clicked.Painting became his passion and Policing began to take a back seat. Bags loved being totally absorbed in what he was painting where he thought of nothing else. The crime occurred on November 22, 2013, when Arms, wearing a mask and gloves, robbed the Cartersville Jewelry Exchange with a silver handgun, stealing over $50,000 in jewelry. He fled in a stolen Ford F-150, later linked to the crime through advanced DNA technology. The trial, held in December 2023, included testimony from 12 witnesses and 80 exhibits. The prosecution highlighted Arms' recidivist history, leading to the maximum sentence. Victims expressed ongoing trauma, and Arms is prohibited from contacting them. STORY 2: Canton Woman Convicted of Leaving Puppies to Die Sentenced Amber Higdon, 31, of Canton, has been sentenced to 10 years, with two years in confinement, after pleading guilty to seven counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. The charges arose from a July 27, 2023 incident where Higdon abandoned seven puppies in a pink tote on the side of the road, leading to their deaths from heat exposure. The puppies, left without food, water, or shelter, died of pulmonary edema, hemorrhage, and cardiac arrest. Higdon admitted to the act, expecting someone else to find the puppies. The court imposed various conditions, including prohibiting her from owning or contacting animals during probation. Co-defendant Ashley Vernon received five years of probation for her role. STORY 3: Cherokee County to Vote on $415M Budget Oct. 1 ****09.21.24 HARRY JOHNSON*** Cherokee County's proposed $415.7 million budget for FY2025, starting October 1, reflects an increase of over $15 million from the amended FY2024 budget. The current phase, from Highway 92 to Washington Avenue, includes road straightening, utility realignments, and water and sewer upgrades, and is set to finish by the second quarter of 2025. The third phase, beginning in the first quarter of 2025, will extend from Washington Avenue to Arnold Mill Road, incorporating a roundabout at Washington Avenue. The book encourages children to advocate for animals, promoting responsibility and kindness toward them. Proceeds from the book benefit local animal charities, with Orphan Annie Rescue currently selected. Benedict, inspired by her rescue schnauzer Weezy, hopes to instill a love for animals in young readers. "Escape from the Mutt Motel" is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble and distributed by APG, Ingram, and others. Commercial: INGLES 1 STORY 6: Gas Station and Retail Store Coming to Southeast Cherokee The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved the zoning change for a gas station and retail store on Arnold Mill Road. The decision rezones approximately 4.085 acres from office and institutional to general commercial, with a variance for grading within the undisturbed buffer. The approval passed 4-1, with Chair Harry Johnston opposing, citing concerns about the alignment with the county's land use plan and preference for neighborhood commercial zoning. Commissioner Weatherby supported the change, citing historical zoning issues. Conditions include operating hours from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., restricted trash pickup, and replanting the buffer with dense vegetation. The development will include a 6,400 square-foot convenience store with gas pumps and a 2,000 square-foot retail building. STORY 7: Vincent Named Week 5 Player of the Week Sam Vincent of River Ridge has been named Cherokee County Player of the Week after an impressive performance in a 45-3 victory over Pope. Vincent excelled both offensively and defensively, scoring on a two-yard touchdown pass and securing two interceptions, one of which he returned for a 20-yard touchdown. His contributions helped the Knights hold Pope to just three points and extend their winning streak to four games, during which they have consistently scored over 40 points. With River Ridge averaging 35.4 points per game, they are enjoying one of the best offensive stretches in program history as they prepare to face Sequoyah after the fall break. We'll have closing comments after this. COMMERCIAL: Heller 2 SIGN OFF – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast. 2 NYPD Officers Shot on Lower East Side in Chase of Robbery Suspect A gunman shot two police sergeants who were trying to arrest him minutes after an armed robbery in a mahjong parlor on the Lower East Side in Manhattan on Thursday, Police Department officials said. One officer was shot in the groin, and the other was grazed by a bullet in the leg, Joseph Kenny, the chief of detectives, said at a news conference on Thursday at Bellevue Hospital, where the officers were being treated for their wounds. Both were in stable condition, said Chief Kenny, who was joined at the news conference by Mayor Eric Adams. The sergeant who was grazed will be released from the hospital on Thursday night, and the sergeant who was shot in the groin will be held overnight for observation. A man, Joshua Dorsett, 22, was taken into custody at the scene, Chief Kenny said. Around 4:15 p.m., the police responded to a 911 call regarding a man on the second floor of a building on Canal Street near Eldridge Street, Chief Kenny said. The man, whom the police later identified as Mr. Dorsett, had pulled out a gun and pointed it at several women at the mahjong parlor, a popular neighborhood spot where people gather and bet money on mahjong games, he said. Mr. Dorsett demanded that the women hand over their purses. He grabbed a number of purses, ran out of the building and fled north on foot, Chief Kenny said. Seven minutes later, police officers on Delancey Street saw Mr. Dorsett, who fit the description of the gunman.
