Labour Party leader Chris Hipkins has called for a better way to balance our tax system. Delivering his State of the Nation speech earlier today, Mr Hipkins says now is the time to have the tax debate, despite Labour ruling out both a wealth tax and a capital gains tax last year. He pledged to spend the next two years releasing discussion documents, to get them best prepared for the next election. Mr Hipkins says it's something that needs to be taken more seriously, especially when the IMF speaks out. "The reality is, salary and wage earners are shouldering a disproportionate share of the tax take, and we should be making sure that it's more evenly balanced." Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava believes that if a company wants to succeed, it must keep an ear to the ground and know what the consumer wants. 88-year-old Bhargava -- who at the helm of Maruti Suzuki helped make cars affordable for millions of middle class Indians -- has now appealed to the government to incentivise alternative technology for small cars. And, he is dead set against blindly replicating the western model. But, why focus on small cars? After all, the market share of cars priced below 5 lakh rupees has shrunk from 25.8 per cent in FY19 to just 10.3 per cent in FY22. While the market for cars under 7.5 lakh rupees has shrunk from 60 per cent to 43 per cent over the same period. On the other hand, sales of pricier SUVs have been in the fast lane for some time now. Undeterred, Bhargava says that sales of small cars priced below 7.5 lakh rupees will continue to grow for a long time to come. His rationale for the projection is that over 200 million two-wheeler customers are waiting to upgrade to cars. Also, Bhargava says that a substantial increase in the price of such small cars has forced thousands of would-be buyers to shelve their plans in recent times. But, if India wants to meet its ambitious clean-mobility goals and 2070 emissions targets, the first car these 200 million customers buy can't be powered by internal-combustion engines. Bhargava has the answer. There are two markets in India. There is what he calls the 'Bharat' market for affordable small cars and another one for bigger cars with 20-25 lakh rupees price tags. The challenge then is to meet the needs of the former because the current cost of electric cars would be double that of ICE cars. An EV with a 12 lakh rupees tag would not be affordable for most middle-class buyers. Bhargava's solution is alternative technologies. At present, the price of a hybrid car is around 4 lakh rupees more than an ICE-only car. But, Bhargava says that a reduction in the Goods and Services Tax, as in the case of electric cars, would bring down their price to affordable levels. While the cost of hybrids is higher than ICE cars, it is still lower compared to EVs. Also, Hybrids may be best suited for Indian conditions as they don't require charging infrastructure. But, EVs attract a GST of 5 per cent, while hybrids attract a much higher 43 per cent GST. India recorded sales of 115,032 hybrids in FY22, which is just 4.2 per cent of the 2.7 million passenger vehicles sold. Still, promoting hybrids might be the right solution for pushing EV adoption in India. Nomura Research Institute sees the share of hybrids in total PV sales doubling in FY25. In three or four years, they may become affordable, backed by Japanese carmakers. But, earlier attempts to popularise hybrids in India had failed in the absence of policy support and incentives. So, is GST rate parity between hybrids and EVs needed? E[xpert byte] Maruti Suzuki is not the only carmaker pitching for hybrids. Honda Cars India also says that lowering taxes on hybrids can speed up EV adoption in India. So, is this more of a strategy for Maruti to catch up with its peers in EV technology? Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have put their weight behind hybrid technology and even received a favourable market response. Unlike in the case of Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata, fully electric cars from Maruti and Toyota will not hit the market before 2025. [Expert byte] Hybrids appear to be a good stepping stone in India's transition from ICE cars to EVs, especially till external charging infrastructure catches up. The ball is now in the government's court.

Warren Warns Powell That Fed's Rate Hikes Could Drive US Economy ‘Off a Cliff': “You know what's worse than high inflation and low unemployment? It's high inflation with a recession and millions of people out of work,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren told Jerome Powell. Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday told Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell directly that the central bank's recent decision to enact more aggressive interest rate hikes in an effort to combat inflation could push the U.S. economy “off a cliff”—and throw millions of people out of work—without reining in soaring prices. “Inflation is like an illness and the medicine needs to be tailored to the specific problem, otherwise you could make things a lot worse,” Warren (D-Mass.) said during her remarks at a Senate Banking Committee hearing. “Right now, the Fed has no control over the main drivers of rising prices.” Who Is to Blame for Inflation? The Power Brokers of Capitalism: A half-century-long power play, led by corporations, Wall Street, governments, and central banks, has gone badly wrong. The blame game over surging prices is on. Was it too much central-bank money being pumped out for too long that caused inflation to take off? Was it China, where most physical production had moved before the pandemic locked down the country and disrupted global supply chains? Was it Russia, whose invasion of Ukraine took a large chunk out of the global supply of gas, oil, grains, and fertilizers? Was it some surreptitious shift from pre-pandemic austerity to unrestricted fiscal largesse? Progressives Say Windfall Profits Tax a ‘Better Solution' Than Biden's Gas Tax Holiday: “A windfall tax would get more relief to more people by penalizing the Big Oil profiteering that's driving up prices,” said one campaigner. As President Joe Biden on Wednesday prepares to urge Congress to temporarily suspend federal gasoline and diesel taxes in a bid to ease pain at the pump, progressives are calling instead for the passage of Democratic lawmakers' overwhelmingly popular bill to impose a windfall profits tax on Big Oil. “Congress should take the president's call and answer it with the windfall profits tax legislation already proposed in the House and Senate,” Jamie Henn, a spokesperson for the Stop the Oil Profiteering (STOP) campaign, wrote on social media. “A windfall tax would get more relief to more people by penalizing the Big Oil profiteering that's driving up prices.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/politicsdoneright/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/politicsdoneright/support
Episode 34: How to Offer Outstanding Social Media Customer ServiceOn this episode of Hire A Millennial Virtual Assistant Podcast, John talks about how social media is so convenient and helps big time in relation to the business. It's easy to find the brand they're looking for and all they need is an account on, on the platform. If you're not using social media for customer service, you're missing out. In fact, Around half of customers may have a more favorable view of your brand. In this episode, John shares that whenever you respond to a user for customer service reasons, you think you need to think about how to use your brand voice, but you also need to strike the right tone for, for instance, your brand voice may typically be upbeat and informal. You may even include humor and your messages in many cases it may be appropriate to use exactly this tone and customer service messages.John also states that when you start out on social media, it's possible to respond to every comment as your follower count grows through, this becomes both too difficult and unnecessary. A better approach, maybe respond to any comments, both positive and negative that require a proper answer. You can't do all these things. You need to hire somebody. You need to delegate the things to maybe a virtual assistant. Here are some topics John shared on this episode: ●How to Develop a Customer Services Strategy●Why Make Promises that you Can Keep●A Better solution than Chatbots and other AIsGet in touch with the Founder and Co-founder John and Karen:John Marzan| LinkedIn | Facebook | Instagram |+1 323-955-1001Karen Po| LinkedIn | Email | +1 323-955-1001Questions? Adam Honig is the Co-founder and CEO of Spiro, a unique proactive relationship management platform. Spiro is designed to end CRM by helping businesses close deals faster and more efficiently using artificial intelligence. Adam started Spiro in 2014 after experiencing his own frustrations with CRM in his previous positions. Adam has had a long and successful career in the technology industry. Before Spiro, he served as the CEO of Innoveer Solutions for more than 14 years, growing the company to 250 employees in the US, the UK, and India. He was also the Co-founder and President of both the Open Environment Corporation and C-bridge Internet Solutions. In this episode… For most e-commerce brands, CRMs feel like a necessity. The question isn't if you should have one, but which one. There are hundreds of CRMs that all promise to make your business more efficient. Oftentimes, however, they overpromise and underdeliver, weighing down your budget while still not treating the underlying issues. This was the case for Adam Honig. Adam has served as the CEO and President of multiple businesses and software companies. During this time, he grew frustrated with CRMs and was inspired to create a better solution. In 2014, he and his co-founder came together to start Spiro, a proactive relationship management platform that works in the background. With Spiro, employees can stop micromanaging their CRM and start focusing on what's really important. Want to learn more? In this episode of the Revenue Engine Podcast, Alex Gluz interviews Adam Honig, the Co-founder and CEO of Spiro, to discuss how Spiro works and how Adam scaled the business. The two go over how to fund and market a new platform in a crowded field. They also talk about the challenges of building a sales enablement software, the different kinds of customers Spiro serves, and where CRMs fall short.

In this episode, I talk a little about the changes we are making and why we will be making them.

A Better Solution for SMB Shippers with Ryan Collier Ryan Collier and Joe Lynch discuss a better solution for SMB shippers. Small and midsize business shippers face unique challenges. SMB shippers often feel overlooked and undervalued by 3PL and brokers. About Ryan Collier Ryan Collier is a Principal Designer at Convoy focused on understanding the problem space and designing solutions to meet the needs of transportation professionals. Prior to joining Convoy, Ryan designed and led design teams in education, healthcare, and government services. Ryan earned a Master of Science in Human-Centered Design and Engineering from the University of Washington. When not dreaming up new ways to help shippers, Ryan can be found dreaming up a new guitar lick or chasing his two kids around the backyard. About Convoy Convoy is the nation’s most efficient digital freight network. They move thousands of truckloads around the country each day through an optimized, connected network of carriers, saving money for shippers, increasing earnings for drivers, and eliminating carbon waste for the planet. Convoy uses technology and data to solve problems of waste and inefficiency in the $800B trucking industry, which generates over 72 million metric tons of wasted CO2 emissions from empty trucks. Fortune 500 shippers like Anheuser-Busch, P&G, Niagara, and Unilever trust Convoy to lower costs, increase logistics efficiency, and achieve environmental sustainability targets. Key Takeaways: A Better Solution for SMB Shippers SMB shippers often face the following challenges when it comes to truckload shipping: Lack of process or a very manual process for getting freight quotes, booking, tracking, and paying for truckload shipments. Distrust of transportation providers and a belief that they are paying too much, not getting access to the same rates as larger shippers. Overpaying for truckload shipments. No insights or business intelligence on their freight spend. No dedicated logistics or transportation person internally because their smaller shipping volume doesn't justify the investment Ignored by many transportation companies who are not interested in smaller shippers. By utilizing a digital freight network provider like Convoy, SMB shippers can streamline their shipping process while reducing costs. In the interview, Ryan described the following advantages that SMB shipper gain when they use Convoy: Instant truckload freight quote from Convoy's website with a competitive price that is the same whether the shipper is Walmart or the corner store. Access to a huge carrier network that has fewer freight claims and fewer accidents. Because Convoy is a preferred shipper (tons of freight, great app, and free quick pay) they attract the best carriers. Superior customer experience enabled by industry-leading technology. Monthly business review to discuss shipper metrics and carrier performance. Phone app that makes tracking and tracing easy for both shippers and carriers. Real-time visibility. Additionally, Convoy is the preferred choice for many trucking companies because they have lots of good freight and a great phone app that streamlines the process. If carriers download the Convoy app to their phone, they will get quick pay with no factoring cost. Before you even begin asking people to back your campaign, you need to dive into understanding why people would choose to do so. Why would people give money to someone they don’t know for a product that may not even exist yet?! You need to get in the mind of the people who are going to, inevitably, help you achieve your dreams before you start asking things of them. In this episode, Nalin explains five potential reasons why people choose to back projects. If you’re an entrepreneur you can’t afford not to listen to this one! Keep scrolling for a further breakdown of the podcast and helpful links. [1:39]: The “What” and “Why” This Podcast is Critical to Your Crowdfunding Campaign: The ability to see things from the perspective of the backer gives you leverage in your campaign to be seen as credible and increases the likelihood of people supporting you and your product. [3:45]: WHY #1: The Excitement of a Cool, New Product: Some people are just excited to see cool, new, and awesome products on crowdfunding. [8:13]: WHY #2: A Better Solution to the Problem: Maybe your product solves an existing problem better than another product already in the market. [10:56]: WHY #3: Friends & Family Support System: Some people back projects because a friend or family member is the one who created the product and they simply want to support them. [14:29]: WHY #4: The Art of Gift Giving: People love to give and receive gifts. Backing a new product and giving that as a gift not only helps a campaign but is also cool to give/receive in the future. [16:12]: WHY #5: Being A Part of Something Bigger Than Themselves: Everyone wants to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Sometimes it’s that simple desire that makes people back on crowdfunding. The idea of being behind the start of something like Peloton or Oculus would be really amazing, wouldn’t it? That’s enough of a reason to drive people to campaigns sometimes. [17:17]: The Importance of Sharing Your Entrepreneurial Story: The easiest thing you, the entrepreneur, can do is share your story. The rewards you reap from doing so is huge. This allows potential backers to connect with you and create a bond that makes them want to invest in your story. [18:06]: Recap: The Five Categories: Going over the five reasons people back crowdfunding one last time. Avoid The Phone if Possible Unless it is your only option, you want to avoid using an actual phone line as it will sound like, well, the phone (it cuts some of the clarity out and the bass). If you have people who will only use a phone you can get a skype to phone account (which is currently around $3.00 a month). Other options are to use a zoom.us meeting and have the person call in. The quality will be worse. Another "better than nothing" option is uberconference.com, Here again, you would connect via your microphone and your guest would connect via the phone. Record Your Call as a WAV File If you are connecting via an interface like the Scarlet 2i2, then send the audio into a portal recorder like the Zoom H1, or H6. This will make it sound better as you are capturing exactly the way you hear it is. With Skype recorders (or its own internal recorder) you lose quality. It's usable, but you ALWAYS want to do what you can to preserve the quality. So, How Do I Record Skype If you are on a mac check out Call Recorder. If you are on a PC check out Free Skype Recorder. In both cases, I would find a way to get a local recorder going as well so you have two recordings going. A Better Solution with Flexibility If you want more flexibility, try Squadcast.fm which records both sides of the conversation, and eliminates those "skype burps" as it records both sides of the podcast locally. If you don't have the need for this, it can also combine the two sides of the conversation into one file. The Easiest Solution Currently, in 2019 the easiest and most flexible way to record a phone call is the Rodercaster Pro from Rode. I have and use one of these. This unit does everything. You can connect multiple people via phone, USB, Bluetooth, and directly via a microphone (you could have a total of seven people connected). It's an amazing piece of equipment with a price tag around $600 but it also has a built-in recorder, acts as a mixer, and has built-in audio enhancements.
It's estimated that 60-100 million feral cats live in the U.S. These are domesticated cats that have been cruelly abandoned out in the streets. Los Angeles is trying to come up with a policy to deal with all the cats. But their solution is tied into pumping up their no-kill shelter numbers, and does nothing for the cats and other wildlife that get forced into the equation. PETA Sr. VP Lisa Lange says the solutions being considered (trapping, neutering, releasing the cats) are not as good as more aggressive enforcement of existing spay/neuter laws, on top of more humane sheltering and adoption policies. LA could be a model for dealing with the feral cat problem nationwide, said Lange, but not if the plan includes abandonment. Take action at PETA.org. The PETA Podcast PETA, the world's largest animal rights organization, is 6.5 million strong and growing. This is the place to find out why. Hear from insiders, thought leaders, activists, investigators, politicians, and others why animals need more than kindness—they have the right not to be abused or exploited in any way. Greg Williams The Master Negotiator and Body Language Expert Podcast
One should always be aware when dealing with #issue versus #solution individual types. The issue-based person is most interested in protecting his issue. In a #negotiation, that makes him less likely to be open to logic or reasoning unless his issue is directly benefited. The solution-based individual is more flexible about uncovering the solution to a challenge. He possesses a sense of open-mindedness about the negotiation. In this episode you’ll discover how to identify either of these types – it may not be as easy as you think. You’ll also learn strategies that you can use to #negotiate more effectively with them. Those strategies will allow you to be more successful in your encounters with them and a stronger #negotiator. Remember, you're always negotiating! At the beginning of January he posted that his goal for 2018 is to “focus on fixing… important issues” facing his company, referring to election interference as well as the issues of abusive content and addictive design.

The turbulent history of clinical trials in viral gene therapy has taught us important lessons about vector design and safety issues. Much effort was spent on analyzing genotoxicity after somatic integration of therapeutic DNA into the host genome. Based on these findings major improvements in vector design including the development of viral hybrid vectors for somatic integration have been achieved. This review provides a state-of-the-art overview of available hybrid vectors utilizing viruses for high transduction efficiencies in concert with various integration machineries for random and targeted integration patterns. It discusses advantages but also limitations of each vector system.
