It's Game Week!Okay, not a real game, but a spring game. And I'm on a flight to Columbus, Ohio to call my first ever game at The Horseshoe for Big Ten Network.Spring football always brings excitement. It's a time of hope, opportunity, and fresh beginnings for every player on the roster. For the Ohio State Buckeyes, this spring is about the 2025 team beginning to write their own story following a thrilling College Football Playoff championship run. The energy around the program is electric, and this weekend gives us a first glimpse of what's to come.On today's Y-Option podcast, presented by our founding partner 76, we dive into a full preview of the Buckeyes. I break down critical position battles and explain why I believe Ryan Day's squad is primed for another CFP run. And here's a spoiler: it's not just because of their talent-rich roster - it's the competitive culture Day has built that could be the difference maker. One of the young men immersed in that environment is freshman quarterback Tavien St. Clair, a hometown kid who grew up less than an hour from Ohio State's campus. Now he's living his dream, wearing scarlet and gray this spring. Tavien and I sat down last summer at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles, and in today's episode, you'll hear that conversation—his journey, his mindset, and the legacy he hopes to build.Reflecting on that conversation reminded me of how special the Elite 11 experience has been for me over nearly two decades.Back in 2009, my first year on the Elite 11 staff, the MVP was Jake Heaps. That class also featured Devin Gardner, Chandler Whitmer, Blake Bell, Nick Montana, and others. Meeting those athletes when they were 17 years old gave me a window into the unique world of top-tier quarterback prospects - a world filled with pressure, passion, and unpredictable journeys. Now heading into my 17th year with Elite 11, we'll share the same message with this year's class that we gave to the ‘09 group and that we spell out in the best-selling book 5-Star QB: “The only thing that's guaranteed is that your path won't go exactly as you envision it.”Looking back on that 2009 class, that truth has played out in so many ways:* Jake Heaps transferred three times before a run in the NFL and is now a head coach in high school & the head coach of Elite 11.* Devin Gardner played both wide receiver and quarterback at Michigan and now shines as a broadcaster with FOX Sports.* Chandler Whitmer played at Illinois and UCONN and now serves as the QB coach at Indiana and in my eyes, is a rising star in the coaching ranks.* Blake Bell won three Super Bowls - as a tight end.* Nick Montana went from Washington to Tulane and today, he's the co-founder and CEO of his own company.Every one of them, like every Elite 11 QB since, imagined a long NFL career. And while not all had the career of Tom Brady or Jared Goff, they each carry incredible stories, filled with grit, growth, and perspective. It's a reminder that behind every 4 or 5-star ranking is a real human story. And here at Y-Option, we're committed to telling those stories and shining a light on who these young athletes are vs who they are told they should be.Hope you enjoy today's episode featuring Buckeye signal-caller Tavien St. Clair - and as we evaluate their talent this Saturday in their spring game, let's all remember that each of the players also have a story worth sharing.Much love, and as always… Stay Steady,YogiThis episode was executive produced by Jim Thornby and edited by Victor RenThis podcast is a Best Coast Media productionY-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication. Town accidentally sells municipal water tower

A small town in Florida accidentally sold its water tower in a blundered real estate transaction. A businessman purchased a municipal building underneath the city of Brooksville's water tower last April for $55,000 (¥6 million) with the goal of converting it into a gym. However, when Bobby Read went to the county to get an address for his new business location, he was told the parcel he bought included the entire water tower site, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Luckily for the town, Read was willing to give it back. County records show he transferred the water tower back to Brooksville through a warranty deed in May. The town of 8,500 residents is located 80 kilometers north of Tampa. “I don't know where the blame falls here,” said Blake Bell, a city council member. “We're council members and we rely on the city manager. We assume that he has done his due diligence.” City Manager Mark Kutney blamed the use of a bad legal description for what happened. The city's redevelopment agency director resigned after the accidental sale. “We're human. ... Sometimes we make a mistake,” Kutney said. (AP) This article was provided by The Japan Times Alpha.

Ladouceur.

It's a special edition of the Unofficial 40. For the first time in a long time, no coronavirus talk on the podcast. But we are joined by longtime media favorite Zack Sanchez who gives his perspective on that turbulent spring during 2015 when the team turned in their helmets for the right to protest after a racist incident rocked the OU campus. We talk with Sanchez about what it was like then and what the team is facing now as social unrest in intertwined with athletics all over the country. We also wanted Zack to give us some insight into his days at OU including what it was like to watch Trevor Knight and Blake Bell battle to replace Landry Jones before the start of the 2013 season and a much rumored incident between OU and Clemson before the 2015 College Football Playoff game in Miami. Bob and Josh join in to talk recruiting as Josh has been on the road all week in Oklahoma checking out the top talent in the state. It's a different format, but we hope you'll take something away from our talk with Sanchez to give you a little insight into the mind of young, Black athletes during an interesting time in our country. The full rundown follows below: INTRO - Welcome to a little bit of a different Unofficial 40 this week 00:02:35 - Looking back at the SAE incident from 2015 00:10:00 - How the demonstrations and protests helped the team get through that time. 00:17:00 - The difficulty in reaching out or speaking up for so many 00:21:00 - The message for young, Black players who will be in the shoes of OU players one day 00:26:00 - His expectations on what we will see from players moving forward into the season 00:29:00 - His thoughts on LIncoln Riley in 2015 and how he's handling things now 00:31:00 - "I don't hate white people." - Zack Sanchez 00:32:10 - What it was like watching Trevor Knight and Blake Bell battle to replace Landry Jones in 2013 preseason camp 00:35:30 - 2013 was an underrated season overall 00:39:50 - The real story about Clemson, Charles Tapper and the bus 00:44:10 - Bob and Josh talk recruiting. We continue our viewing of the 2013 OU-Notre Dame game beginning with the Irish starting the 3rd quarter with a bang and Grant talking about weddings during game days. Grant saw Kerry Cooks on the Notre Dame sidelines and Brady details his experience watching the OU-Georgia Rose Bowl. Also discussed are the squib kick and Jake Fromme (4:30). For some reason we talk about Dak Prescott and then Sam Bradford. Yep, we're all over the place (13:15). Blake Bell has to leave the game with a minor injury, so we talk about that time Baker Mayfield pretended to pull his hamstring against Ohio State in 2017 (15:20). Could Lincoln Riley have used Kyler Murray more in the Rose Bowl? That leads to a Baker vs. Kyler debate (16:10). Time for more Mike Stoops talk, which includes that horrible Army game from 2018 (27:55). Sterling Shepard makes a play (37:50). Grant figures out what was happening on this day in college football back in 2013 (41:00). Adrian Peterson is still playing football, but also doing local commercials. Speaking of AD makes Brady think back to the 2006 OU-Oregon game (43:00). We all decide that if we had the power to go back and change the 2008 OU-Florida game we would (49:00). OU beats Notre Dame and the guys provide their final thoughts (52:35). Grant has some thoughts on Brandon Everage before we wrap up this podcast (57:05). | YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqrN6xWharg&list=PLgT-IQCnl5OHOrA3rbpSrp1nFeVN0J4pl&index=4 | Credit: LASooner | YouTube game action time code (9:28-37:09), (47:12-1:12:39), (1:24:25-2:04:02), (2:21:39-end) | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonNews9

In the opening take, Lee gives some advice to a prominent ESPN personality. Then, Grant joins the show along with Brady Trantham of "The Franchise" and many OU and OKC Thunder podcasts to talk about how we are ripping him off with this podcast (6:10). Landry Jones comes up, so does the 2012 OU-Notre Dame game, which leads to James Harden being mentioned (10:00). We begin watching the 2013 OU-Notre Dame, which includes some early big plays by the defense (13:45). OU's offense comes out on the field for the first time and has no trouble moving down the field. This leads to a debate about Damien Williams' credentials for Super Bowl MVP (21:20). Lee wants to know if OU went on to win the National Championship this season (25:55)? Trevor Knight and Blake Bell talk (26:30). There's a lull in the game so let's talk about 2008 OU-Texas (32:45). This Notre Dame offense had a lot of future NFL players (34:40). Apparently OU has always had problems with backup quarterbacks (37:00). Brady talks a little about Mike Stoops and the OU defense (38:40). Brady figures out his favorite most obscure OU football player, which is De'Mond Parker (42:00). The second quarter begins with Brady discussing OU's history against Notre Dame (44:00). So, what's the proper way to count National Championships? That inevitably leads to us trying to fix the College Football Playoff (46:30). Brady goes back to the 2000 K-State game as he talks about his first memorable OU sports moment (1:01:00). Lee goes back to the Howard Schnellenberger era to describe his first OU memory (1:04:15). Grant used to be super excited about OU going under center, plus LaColtan Bester scores a TD to close out the first half (1:07:30) | YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqrN6xWharg&list=PLgT-IQCnl5OHOrA3rbpSrp1nFeVN0J4pl&index=4 | Credit: LASooner | YouTube game action time code (9:28-37:09), (47:12-1:12:39), (1:24:25-2:04:02), (2:21:39-end) | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonNews9

From 2008: Steve Ditko is a mystery. And in view of the cosmic and ethereal manner of his comic book art style, from Spider-Man and Dr. Strange to the lesser-known Mr. A, that may be appropriate. Blake Bell, whose interest as a fan of Ditko earns him the right to be called a “Ditko scholar,” isn’t buying the mystery. In his new book, Strange and Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko, Bell digs deeper and more thoroughly into the enigma that is Ditko.

Today's Guest: Michael Uslan, comic book writer, "Archie Marries Betty" Betty   Archie Marries Betty by Michael Uslan I remember the first time I encountered Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Moose, Mr. Weatherbee, Miss Grundy, Hot Dog and the rest of the Riverdale gang. It was in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, 1971, and we were visiting our cousins, the Sirotkins. Fred Sirotkin, the youngest of the three children, had a basement filled with shelf after shelf of neatly ordered comic books. It was nirvana for me—and probably still would be, if not for the great flood that hit Wilkes-Barre a year later, obliterating Fred’s collection and everything else in the wall of water’s path. MICHAEL USLAN podcast excerpt: "Yes, we take the Archie story one step beyond anything it's ever been taken before... This has become a firestorm on the Internet on a worldwide basis. The Today Show took a poll on who Archie should marry. It was 80% Betty, 20% Veronica--and Jughead came in a strong third." Fast-forward to January 2010 and America’s oldest teenager, Archie Andrews—sorry, Dick Clark—has graduated college and announced his engagement to Betty Cooper. The writer of this six-part Archie Comics series, which takes us through the characters’ future, is as much a surprise, perhaps, as Archie choosing girl-next-door Betty over girl-with-a billion-bucks Veronica. His name is Michael Uslan, and while he’s written a few comic books before, he’s based known as an executive producer behind some of the biggest comic book movies of all time, including Batman and The Dark Knight.
