We then share a clip that went viral this week of Charlie Puth breaking down his favorite gospel song and why he “loves everything Church.” Then we check out RAYE's incredible new single “Joy,” and her faith-filled album, ‘This Music May Contain Hope.' In Slices, a guy in California got caught running a nationwide LEGO scam that you won't believe. And a 91-year-old Ohio grandma ignored her wellness checks because … she was locked in on a video game. Charlie Puth joins Switched On Pop in Studio A at Power Station at Berklee NYC, live before a room of current students, ten days after performing the national anthem at Super Bowl 60 and weeks before releasing his fourth album, Whatever's Clever. The conversation is grounded in one question: how do you absorb the music you love and turn it into something that actually sounds like you? Puth traces his national anthem arrangement through a lineage running from Jose Feliciano's 1968 World Series performance to Marvin Gaye's 808-driven 1983 All-Star Game version to Whitney Houston's 1991 Super Bowl rendition. The through-line: citation is letting your influences dissolve into your hands until they become unrecognizable. That principle runs throughout the new record, from the Quincy Jones guitar tone on "Cry" to the Chick Corea quotation buried in "Boy" that Puth didn't realize was there until after writing it. In recent months, AI music has moved from novelty act into the realm of listenable music. For the first time, AI-generated songs from AI-generated artists are on the Billboard top 100 charts, and more musicians are coming out saying they use AI in their songwriting process. Is this just another tech upgrade to the music-making process or does it signal something bigger in the industry? To investigate, SciFri producer and musician Dee Peterschmidt talks to journalist Kristin Robinson, who covers AI in the music industry, and Laurie Spiegel, an electronic and algorithmic music pioneer. Guests: Kristin Robinson is a senior writer for Billboard, based in Los Angeles, CA. Laurie Spiegel is a composer and programmer based in New York, NY Transcripts for each episode are available within 1-3 days at sciencefriday.com. Subscribe to this podcast. Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Charlie Puth has spent the last decade topping charts with hits like “See You Again,” “Attention” and “We Don't Talk Anymore” and recently performed the national anthem at the 2026 Super Bowl, drawing inspiration from Whitney Houston's iconic rendition. Puth sits down with Willie Geist at a New York City jazz club to discuss his fourth studio album, “Whatever's Clever,” an orchestral pop record influenced by late 1980s and early 1990s yacht rock, while reflecting on the pivotal moments that shaped his rise from accidental pop star to global headliner. Plus, he opens up about a recent conversation with former President Barack Obama about the importance of music education, how Taylor Swift's “The Tortured Poets Department” lyric pushed him to be more vulnerable and how marriage and impending fatherhood have reshaped his songwriting. Charlie Puth (Whatever's Clever, Voicenotes, Nine Track Mind) is a Grammy and Golden Globe Award-winning songwriter, recording artist, and producer. Charlie joins the Armchair Expert to discuss his opinion that standup is the scariest job, how everyone in New Jersey is their own local celebrity, and that what's most important about recording is capturing the air in the room. Charlie and Dax talk about the photographic memory-like way he approaches sound, learning he wanted to write his own music after discovering 70s pop and R&B, and making a Christmas album that he sold door-to-door at age 11. Charlie explains why his history with his wife is like a country song, the realization that he had to remove fraudulence from his life, and embracing the beauty of imperfection in being human.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Send a textWhat can Charlie Puth's collaboration with Kenny G for the Super Bowl national anthem teach us about sales? More than you'd think.Bill and Bryan break down the story of how Charlie Puth persistently pursued Kenny G—not through aggressive follow-ups, but through generous, creative demonstrations of value. He sent tracks. He added a choir. He painted the picture so vividly that Kenny G couldn't help but respond. The sales lessons are everywhere: Clean intention enables authentic persistence. Information isn't proprietary anymore, so stop withholding it. Collaboration beats competition. And most importantly, your "through line"—the underlying driver of your sales process—might be sabotaging your success. Most sales methodologies operate on a selfish through line: What do I need to say or do to get the deal? That approach creates manipulation, defensiveness, and resistance. But what if collaboration was your through line instead?Join the conversation: AdvancedSellingPodcast.com/linkedinIs it time to make a BOLD move in your business? The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast kicks off with a look at Coco Jones preparing to perform the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” at Super Bowl LX. Jones shared that she’s been leaning on a vocal trick once used by Whitney Houston—eating Lay’s potato chips to keep her voice “oiled” before major performances—as she gears up for one of the biggest stages in sports. Meanwhile, the show addresses online buzz about SZA and country‑hip‑hop artist Shaboozey, with multiple sources confirming that despite months of speculation, the two have never been romantically involved and maintain only a platonic friendship. Later, listeners get a lively segment featuring super‑producer Teddy Riley, whose new memoir Remember the Times chronicles his rise from Harlem to shaping the sound of modern R&B and hip‑hop through the creation of New Jack Swing and collaborations with icons like Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, and Jay‑Z. As conversation turns political, the team reacts to Donald Trump’s recent repost of an AI‑generated video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes, which sparked bipartisan condemnation before the White House deleted it, claiming a staffer posted it in error. The episode blends entertainment, culture, and headline news, giving listeners a sharp, humorous, and insightful take on everything happening right now.
