We're talking the Street Fighter trailer in this week's bonus mini episode of (Not So) Live from Asteroid G. A new live-action version of Street Fighter is coming out, and while it's hard to know whether the new film will be good, even from this trailer, we can all agree on one thing: it has to be better than the Legend of Chun Li.
Mike talks about actors who had very different careers before making it in Hollywood. From doctors to firefighters, footballers to lawyers, these are the unexpected paths that led some of the biggest stars to fame. Mike talks to They Will Kill You’s director Kirill Sokolov about why he quit his dream to be scientist to direct movies, scenes that came to him in a dream and how much prep goes into a day of shooting with real FIRE. He then talks to the movie’s producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti who are siblings. They are known for directing and producing horror hits like Mama, IT: Chapter One, IT: Chapter Two, and the series IT: Welcome to Derry. Mike talks to them about what a producer of a movie actually does, the hardest things to get cleared by the studio and if a boldly original film originally is seen as a risk. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about Michael. It’s the story of Michael Jackson from his early days in the Jackson 5 to becoming the biggest entertainer in the world. Michael Jackson is played by his nephew, Jaafar Jackson. Mike talks about where it ranks on the music biopics so far of the decade, Jaafar Jackson’s performance and the controversy surrounding what the movie left out. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about Street Fighter. Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament. Mike talks about his love for the arcade game and why this is both good and bad news for video game movies. New Episodes Every Monday! It is a solo this week with Rick out and a short one on top of it. Jack starts off with a focus on how different versions change the experience if you watch the English or Japanese versions. He breaks down the name swaps between Japanese and international releases, and he also points out major edits like censorship cuts and trimmed scenes, and compares how soundtrack and dialogue changes can completely shift the tone depending on which cut you watch. He also talks about how the movie feels more like a fan focused showcase where lots of characters pop in briefly, why the game style fight moments are the most fun part, and how the whole thing hit him as a nostalgic easy watch that made him want to pick up Street Fighter II again.About the anime:This movie straight up takes the Street Fighter II roster and builds a globe-hopping action story around them. Vega ( or M. Bison for the dub fans) is running Shadaloo (or Shadowlaw) and basically hunting down the world's strongest fighters so he can control or recruit them to help him with is goals, and Ryu sitting at the center of the target because of his pure raw potential. While Ryu's out doing his lone-wolf “I'm just here to get stronger” thing, Chun-Li and Guile are pushing the investigation and military side of the plot, trying to shut Shadaloo down before Vega can do any more damage. The movie's big focus is pretty straight forward, the fight scenes are well executed even if some of them pay homage to the game itself in a fun way and that “that character gets a moment” energy, more than deep mystery plotting.Next Week's Pick: “A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof”Have you had the chance to watch Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie or any of our previous selections? Two hosts. One cursed genre. We're back from hiatus and diving headfirst into Street Fighter—the messy past, the chaotic present, and the narrow path where a live-action adaptation might actually work. We start with Raúl Juliá's legendary M. Bison, a masterclass in villainy that shows how one serious performance can anchor an otherwise bonkers movie. From there we map the game-to-film curse: cramming 200 hours of world and choice into 120 minutes, inventing bland protagonists, killing fan favorites you'll need next time, and mistaking “gritty” for “good.”So what would it take to make Street Fighter land in 2026? We make the case for a bold, colorful tone that looks like the game you remember, a tournament that actually feels like a tournament (with an audience and rules), and a clean narrative spine built around Ryu and Ken's estrangement colliding with Chun-Li and Guile's revenge lines. We argue for Bison as a manipulative, modern dictator rather than a gym poster, and for Akuma as a shadowy pressure system instead of a homework dump. Along the way we debate the new cast, where stunt casting helps or hurts, and why choreography and silhouette should outrank marquee names. Sonic and Mario thrived when they embraced cartoon logic; Speed Racer was early but right. It's time to let video game movies be gloriously unreal—and ruthlessly coherent. If you care about tournaments that make sense, fights you can actually read, and characters who don't vanish in service of cameos, this conversation's for you. Tap play, tell us your dream Ryu/Ken/Chun-Li, and share the episode with the friend who still quotes “it was Tuesday.” And if you're new here, hit follow, drop a review, and stick around—we've got more heavy hitters on deck. Thanks for listening; If you feel like supporting us, this is where you do that!Patreon (Just a buck to show your support!)BuyMeACoffee Check out or other content/socials here. For the latest installment of "Fighting VideoLAMES," we're looking at Capcom's second attempt to bring their beloved Street Fighter II to the big screen. Far from the silly, colorful spectacle of the JCVD/Raul Julia version, this time around Capcom opted for a more grounded, dramatic take, focusing primarily one single Street Fighter character in hopes of kicking off an MCU-like string of sequels ultimately culminating in a big team-up movie. But even with Kristen Kreuk, a hot TV star of the time, in the titular role as one of the video game's most popular characters, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li once again failed to cement Street Fighter as a cinematic brand. So what went wrong this time? How much can you change from the source material before you're no longer really making a true adaptation? And just what is going on with that Chris Klein performance? We discuss all this, and more! Our Twitter Our Facebook Our Instagram Our YouTube Trev's Letterboxd Chris' Letterboxd

Back in 2009, I was graduating high school and watching this film in the theater. I hated it. So much that I never watched it again...Until now! I had Anita check out the original movie first, so she gives her quick thoughts on that one. Chris tries hard to help us through this terrible plot and Anita caused a whole tangent that probably got used as the clip for this episode. Oh, and this film may have one of the funniest "seduction" scenes, i've ever seen. Can anyone tell us what was unrated in this unrated version too because it ain't feel very unrated! “Talladega Nights gets a lot better after you've seen Rise of Skywalker, that's for sure” The Panel of Peril run and gun all your favourite film and video games characters in one fluid motion, before removing their VR headset in order to watch this week's film. That film is Ready Player One (Steven Spielberg, 2018), and they are joined by Kevin and Jason from KJ & A Podcast! Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) is just like most people in the year 2045; he gets through the day any way he can before escaping to the virtual reality of the OASIS to enact his fantasies. But when the now-deceased VR creator Halliday (Mark Rylance) challenges the players to find his hidden easter egg, and gain control of the OASIS, the virtual race is on – and it will be fought to the literal death. Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSp1dM2Vj48 ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** Nicolas Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn) plans to find the egg for his own nefarious ends. He will monetise the OASIS, restricting access for those on the lowest incomes, thereby turning a dream playground into a corporate nightmare. Starring the likes of (friend of the pod) Batman, Chun Li, Chucky and Mecha Godzilla, RP1 is certainly a film with lots of stuff to point at when you spot it. Just what did the panel think of this week's movie, pray tell? How can they improve upon Sorrento's OASIS-hijacking plan?
