In a matchup of the 2 teams at the bottom of the standings, the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks played a nail-biter. The Chicago Blackhawks led for much of the game, but were unable to pull off an upset versus the Florida Panthers Friday night. Caleb Jones and Boris Katchouk were the unlikely goal scorers to put the Hawks in front in the 1st period. The Red Wings are retaining half of Bertuzzi’s salary for the rest of the season. Bertuzzi is a 28-year-old pending free agent winger who gives Boston depth up front and insurance for injured winger Taylor Hall. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich missed the game because of an illness. Devin Vassell scored 18 points for the Spurs in his return after being out for 25 games following arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Popovich and lead assistant Brett Brown were out with non-COVID-19 illnesses. Popovich is expected to return for Saturday's home game against Houston. Spurs assistant Mitch Johnson collected his first victory in Popovich's absence. San Antonio has won two straight after dropping a franchise-record 16 in a row.
