Greg was able to buy his first house from an amazing program that enables teachers to buy a home for 50% of the listed price via the "Teacher Next Door Program". Greg and his wife enjoy frugal living and taking advantage of the amazing 457(b) that many teachers have access to. This will enable them to enjoy an early retirement. "Because teachers play a vital role in community revitalization, HUD provides a significant incentive through the Good Neighbor Next Door Program. This program offers eligible teachers the opportunity to purchase a home at a remarkable 50% discount off the list price. However, it's important to note that the availability of Good Neighbor Homes is extremely limited. While specific restrictions apply to this program, they do not affect other homes purchased through the Teacher Next Door Program, which offers additional benefits like grants and mortgage assistance to help teachers achieve homeownership."https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/housing/sfh/reo/goodn/gnndabotSHARE HOW FIT HAS IMPACTED YOU FOR EPISODE 200!https://forms.gle/RiqfrUzZJsMVJQ8T8Be a guest on the show:https://www.financiallyindependentteachers.com/contact-8Check out our website:https://www.financiallyindependentteachers.com/Sign up for FIT coaching:https://www.financiallyindependentteachers.com/services-4MarketAboutA breakdown of listed companies' financials, news, trends and other.Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

After the pandemic, many teachers began teaching outside. The woods, trails, playgrounds, and parks near their schools became their classrooms. Educators happily discovered that nature provided new academic and social-emotional learning opportunities. Nature-based learning, which can be as simple as bringing natural materials into the classroom or setting up learning spaces outdoors, opens up joyful and meaningful ways to learn and grow. In this Outdoor Classrooms Tour and Talk episode, CIRCLE Member Jodi Simpson, reflects upon her teaching, her research, and the benefits of nature-based learning she has witnessed. She is excited to inspire others to experience the rewards of connecting children with the natural world. In this episode, we discuss language arts, social studies, children's play and curiosity, along with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) which are the many pathways to falling in love with learning and seeing how we are connected to one another in this beautiful world.MEET JODI: Joy has been the building block of Jodi Simpson's teaching career of 22 years. The middle school assistant principal who attempted to bully 12-year-old Jaiden Rodriguez over his backpack Gadsden flag suffers post-traumatic history dysphoria, a mental illness common among feminists and racial-justice warriors. PTHD causes its female victims to believe anything that transpired in American history before the rise of the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements is misogynistic and racist. When young Jaiden and his mother educated the educator on the true history of the flag, they also offered a lesson in why men need to stop apologizing for the past. “The demonization of the past is a grift. It legitimizes reparations. And it provokes alleged educators to believe any symbol originated before last week was a byproduct of slavery and systemic racism.” Jason unpacks his thoughts in a must-see Firestarter. Most of the talk of Buffalo's off-season has surrounded the alleged discontentment of Bills star receiver Stefon Diggs. Fueled by Stephen A. Smith's comments about the wideout wanting out of upstate New York, many, including Jason, assumed it was just NFL diva-wide-receiver drama. But now, it seems the root of the beef in Buffalo actually begins and ends with quarterback Josh Allen. Jason offers Diggs a mea culpa and welcomes Steve Kim to the conservation. Plus, the pair discuss Deion Sanders disavowing his ties to Florida State and honoring his HBCU degree, Dan Le Batard's warning to Skip Bayless over the future of “Undisputed," and how Nebraska volleyball made history while revealing the uncomfortable truth about women's college athletics. In this dialogue, the two discuss humanizing practices within education, learning as a form of community healing, and the importance of ethnic studies as a vessel for student empowerment. Jon Bergmann - Bio as Submitted Jon Bergmann is one of the pioneers of the Flipped Classroom. He has helped schools, universities, organizations, and governments all over the world introduce active and flipped learning into their contexts. He is a frequent keynote speaker who challenges and inspires audiences with stories and real-life examples from his classroom. He has taught at urban, suburban, rural, and private schools. He spent twenty-four years as a classroom teacher in Colorado before becoming a technology facilitator in the Chicago suburbs. When Flip Your Classroom became an international bestseller, he traveled the world for eight years, helping schools and universities move from passive to active learning. In 2019, he returned to the classroom to further develop Flipped and Mastery Learning. This has amplified Jon's voice with teachers and professors. They now see him as a fellow teacher working through the complexities and challenges of teaching today because his presentations include struggles and successes as he works every day with students. Jon believes the two most important things that make good teaching good are active learning and relationships. Too much education is received passively, and Jon knows from both research and experience that students learn best when they are active participants. Students don't care what you know until they know that you care, and Jon tries every day to connect with his students. Jon has written and co-authored ten books that have been translated into thirteen languages. In 2002, Jon received the Presidential Award for Excellence for Math and Science Teaching; and in 2010, he was a Semi-Finalist for Colorado Teacher of the Year. He serves on the advisory board for TED Education. He teaches full-time science and assists with staff development at Houston Christian High School in Houston, Texas. Research and experiences allow us to consistently develop new best practices for teaching and learning. What worked last year may not work this year, for a multitude of reasons. And what we thought worked years ago clearly isn't what's best for our kids. So we get to shift what we're doing to ensure we're giving all our students what they need in order to flourish. (If only all educational decision-makers would get on board!) Jon Bergmann, this week's podcast guest, is fully on board and leading the charge. You heard him all the way back in episode 3 talking about flipped learning. And this week he's back to talk about how to make the most of flipped learning. And that's mastery learning. Jon is back in the trenches, teaching in a high school classroom, which I think lends even more credibility to what he's sharing. Because he's trying things out with real students in a real learning environment. In this episode, Jon defines some important educational terms so we can all be on the same page. And he discusses why “mastery” doesn't need to mean the same thing for every student. He even shares exactly how teachers can plan out lessons to help students achieve the level of mastery they're on board with. It's such a refreshing idea that I know will help support students for years to come. About Jon Bergmann: Jon Bergmann is one of the pioneers of the Flipped Classroom. WELCOME TO SEASON 3 OF THE CLASSCAST PODCAST! Since launching in July 2019, ClassCast Podcast episodes have been downloaded and streamed nearly 13,000 times! From discussions with former students to international authors and thought leaders, local community organizers to acclaimed educators and experts around the globe, host Ryan Tibbens has worked tirelessly to record and share purposeful conversations about the philosophies, policies, pedagogies, and people that can make formal education great. Season 3 will include a few shake-ups and new elements, most notably VIDEO. While all previous ClassCast episodes are available to stream on YouTube, they were just audio with an accompanying slideshow. From now on, nearly all episodes will be available with real video of participants engaging in discussion. Of course, audio-only streams will continue to be available on iTunes/Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, and most other podcast services. Episode 072, the first of Season 3, features a great segment from the "Innovation" roundtable discussion of Edupodlooza, a great event hosted by the guys over at the Unprofessional Development Podcast. The full discussion will be available soon so that you can hear what innovative ideas (and hilarious exchanges) preceded this wrap-up, but the final parts of this discussion are the perfect way to launch Season 3. You'll hear some great ideas from Mike Yates (Schoolish Podcast & Teach For America's Reinvention Lab), Gerardo Munoz (2021 Colorado Teacher of the Year & secondary social studies teacher), and other all-star teachers and podcasters on the panel, including Mealey & Tudisco (Unprofessional Development), Batsheva Frankel (Overthrowing Education), Toria Claire (Tiny Voice Talks), and Sandrine Hope (Step into Mondays).
