What if your workout had nothing to do with the number on the scale—and everything to do with what your body can do? This week we're joined by Mark Breedon, an online personal trainer who helps women build lasting confidence by getting stronger than they ever imagined. His weight-neutral philosophy shifts the focus away from aesthetics and toward strength, health, and independence because life-changing results aren't just about how you look, they're about what you can do. Mark shares how he went from chasing bigger biceps to falling in love with powerlifting, and how that transformation led him to create a coaching approach free from weigh-ins, before-and-after photos, and body measurements. In this episode: How training for strength can be more fulfilling and sustainable than training for weight loss Real-life examples of clients discovering their strength (yes, even in their 70s and 80s!) Dr. T and Truth Fairy welcome guest Gil Bar-Sela to the podcast to talk about his work as a psychedelic guide, facilitator, and trainer working with individuals, couples, and groups. Gil weaves modalities like generative somatics, compassionate listening, and archetypal work into the more ancient medicine ceremonies. Gil shares his personal journey with Dr. T and Truth Fairy and engages in thoughtful discussions about psychedelics and healing. Gil shares that when he moved to the United States after being raised in Tel Aviv, Israel, he had his first opportunity to deal with the trauma lodged in his body. That led him to ask questions about conflict, the root causes of conflict, trauma, and intergenerational trauma which put him on track to explore all those issues. He also began his own personal healing process around his queer identity. This experience and questioning led him to the studies and practices he engages in today. Truth Fairy, Gil, and Dr. T talk about how self-awareness is what first leads to healing work. Having a sense of what we need can lead us to the right kind of work to be doing. Gil talks about the building blocks necessary to become a good guide which include ethics, pharmacology, and onboarding clients in a responsible way. The conversation highlights Gil's own strong sense of guidance and understanding of the different types of medicine available for healing individuals which also includes psychedelics.“You have the psychiatrist, you have the psychotherapist moving into the space that are very rooted in the Western psyche, but are also lacking usually in terms of connection to spirit, to more expansive practices, to ancient wisdom. And so I think, in particular, the role of the underground guide can be to merge the two worlds. Because we're not here and we're not there. We can be bridge builders. The training that I lead is very much focused on that.” - Gil Bar-Sela__About Gil Bar-Sela:Gil has trained teams and businesses to invoke a thriving work culture. He has inspired audiences of thousands by speaking at colleges across the country on topics such as the power of listening and gender equality. He has collaborated with the leadership team of Seattle's Restorative Justice Initiative, creating community-based, non-punitive solutions to conflict. He co-leads annual delegations to Palestine and Israel with The Compassionate Listening Project, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals and communities to transform conflict and strengthen cultures of peace. He also coaches privately, and leads workshops and retreats globally.Gil is a Certified Trainer with the Heart Math Institute and a Certified Facilitator with The Compassionate Listening Project. He has also trained at Susan Scott's Fierce Conversations, Dominic Barter's Restorative Circles, Core Energetics, META (Mindful Experiential Therapy Approaches), Cortiva's 1,000-hour massage therapy program, and shamanism.Website: GilBarSela.com__Contact Punk Therapy:Patreon: Patreon.com/PunkTherapyWebsite: PunkTherapy.comEmail: info@punktherapy.com

The Art of Compassionate Listening Cultivating Understanding and Empathy In our fast-paced, technology-driven world, the art of truly listening has become a rare commodity. We are often so consumed by our own thoughts, distractions, and the need to respond quickly that we fail to fully engage in the act of listening. However, compassionate listening is a powerful tool that can foster deeper understanding, empathy, and meaningful connections with others. What is Compassionate Listening? Compassionate listening goes beyond simply hearing the words someone is saying. It involves actively and intentionally listening with an open mind and heart, free from judgment or the need to formulate a response. It requires us to be fully present, attentive, and focused on the speaker, allowing their words, emotions, and experiences to resonate within us. When we practice compassionate listening, we create a safe space for others to express themselves freely, without fear of being interrupted, criticized, or dismissed. This act of genuine presence and acceptance can be profoundly healing and validating for the speaker, fostering a sense of being truly heard and understood. The Benefits of Compassionate Listening Cultivating the art of compassionate listening can have far-reaching benefits for both the listener and the speaker: 1. Deeper Connections: By actively listening with empathy and understanding, we create stronger, more meaningful connections with others. This can improve personal and professional relationships, fostering trust and mutual respect. 2. Increased Self-Awareness: When we listen compassionately, we become more attuned to our own thoughts, feelings, and biases. This self-awareness can lead to personal growth and a greater capacity for self-reflection. 3. Conflict Resolution: Compassionate listening can help diffuse tense situations and resolve conflicts by creating an environment of mutual understanding and respect. It allows both parties to feel heard and validated, paving the way for constructive dialogue and compromise. 4. Improved Communication: By actively listening and seeking to understand others, we enhance our communication skills and become better communicators ourselves. This can lead to more effective collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making. Cultivating the Art of Compassionate Listening Developing the skill of compassionate listening takes practice and intentionality. Here are some tips to help you cultivate this invaluable art: 1. Be Present: Eliminate distractions and give the speaker your undivided attention. Maintain eye contact, nod, and use affirmative body language to show you are engaged. 2. Suspend Judgment: Approach the conversation with an open mind and heart. Resist the urge to formulate a response or counterargument while the other person is speaking. 3. Ask Clarifying Questions: If you're unsure about something, ask respectful questions to gain a deeper understanding of the speaker's perspective. 4. Reflect and Validate: Periodically summarize or rephrase what the speaker has said to ensure you've understood correctly and to validate their experience. 5. Practice Empathy: Strive to understand the speaker's emotions, motivations, and experiences, even if they differ from your own. Imagine yourself in their shoes. Compassionate listening is a powerful act of kindness and respect. By cultivating this art, we create a more understanding, empathetic, and connected world, one conversation at a time. Embrace the power of truly listening, and watch as barriers dissolve and meaningful connections flourish.

Effective communications can make or break a relationship. This doesn't always mean effectively proving our points or being right or even perfect. I'm talking about listening with an open compassionate heart and a desire to mend your relationships. This authentically deepens the heart connection. It's more than a band-aid, it heals core wounds. If we truly care about our connection with someone, truly listening, as my teacher used to say, "with the ear of your heart" is most healing for both of you. This is our topic of this week's Meditation & Healing Circle. Listen in to release your defenses, center yourself, and communicate with an open heart to truly mend the relationships that are most important to you. You're invited to join us LIVE for The Meditation & Healing Circle - every Sunday at 10am US ET / 7am US PT. When you join live, you can stay on after the recorded meditation for Q&A, support and discussion. https://CommunityforConsciousLiving.com

At this week's Round Table, Emily, Emmanuel, and Heba spoke with Joel Berman, a retired primary care physician who lives in Concord, NH and is a longtime volunteer from The Compassionate Listening Project–something we could all benefit from doing more of these days, which made us excited to engage in this conversation! The Compassionate Listening Project works to empower individuals and communities to transform conflict and create cultures of peace and healing. It accomplishes this through workshops, facilitator training, listening journeys, and partnerships with humanitarian, social justice, and peace-building groups.Compassionate Listening offerings cultivate practices that hold courageous and generative space to bring people together across differences. We discussed complex and timely questions like “What does it mean to truly create safe & courageous space and what are the best ways to do so and to unleash creativity?” We dove into the power of storytelling as well as the importance of peer support in working to rewire our brains away from tribalism, which is incredibly hard! We acknowledged the intense practice it takes to master it, the degree to which we will sometimes fail--and learn from failing, and the need to be compassionate with ourselves when we do. We also discussed the value of having a compassionate listening practice group to do this work with regularly-a laboratory within which to take risks and receive honest feedback. Joel founded and has been part of one for over a decade! At a time of such deep divisiveness in Israel-Gaza–and such deep divisiveness in thinking and talking about the issues globally–we were inspired to hear about Joel's four Compassionate Listening Journeys to Israel and Palestine between 2015 and 2019, as well as his Journey to Alabama in January 2020. During these trips, he recorded and transcribed more than 40 listening sessions that form the basis for public presentations designed to humanize the “other” and help local audiences recognize our common humanity and shared values of people across geo-political divides. We sure need approaches like this right now and are grateful to Joel and the Compassionate Learning Project for their valuable work. f you're interested in hearing more from Joel Berman and the work he is very passionate about, read some of his articles here: A Third Way to Think About Israel and Palestine, Journey to Alabama with The Compassionate Listening Project Thank you for listening! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nextgenpolitics/message
Joel Berman is a practitioner of Compassionate Listening (compassionatelistening.org). In this episode, Jenn Lozano and board member Ann Stevens explore the art of listening in an Unbound session or simply to a friend or someone in need.Ann describes three overall ways one can respond when listening to hard things shared. Responses of fear or pride may be human responses, but God will give us grace to respond in humility, extending compassion to the individual receiving prayer. Join them as Ann shares the importance of taking personal time prior to an Unbound ministry session to seek the Lord and meditate, even briefly, on a passage from Matthew 7. She reminds us about the depth and unlimited nature of God's forgiveness. There is the “small story,” and the “big story.” The small story being the details of a prayer recipient's account and the big story of God's power forgiveness and the ability to move into the bigger place of what God is doing.Ann speaks about the importance of staying present in the moment and being aware of one's own body language so the recipient feels heard. The idea of redirecting within an Unbound session is discussed, with Jenn giving an example of a time when she was leading and a recipient withdrew because they felt unheard in the moment. Listening is an art and tips are provided to be compassionate without getting stuck rehashing the hard things someone has been through. Ann shares a personal example of a time that she received compassion during a therapy session and describes how the empathy shown by the therapist helped her feel heard in the moment. The biblical account of the disciples on the road to Emmaus is explored, showing how Jesus came alongside the disciples and, after listening to their story, helped draw them out of their small story into the bigger picture of what God was doing. Ann concludes with the reminder that as we remember God's unlimited compassion and mercy for each of us personally, we can through the Holy Spirit not judge and can help a prayer recipient step into recognizing God's big story. How to Discover the Buyer Using Compassionate Listening #499 I have a point of view on selling that may catch you off guard. Just like social work, nursing, or counseling, I see selling as a helping profession. The way I see it, as sellers, it's our responsibility to relieve the suffering of our customers and clients. Each prospect you meet has some unfulfilled need or desire that greatly pains both them and their organizations. The way master sellers can assuage this suffering is to listen and to listen with compassion. Instead of guessing what's troubling them, ask and they will tell you what it is they want and they need. Too often sellers are quick to jump the gun and talk about their stuff when it would make more sense to shut up and let them talk. How to discover the buyer with compassionate listening. That's the topic for today. Sales Babble shares selling secrets for non-sellers. Masterful selling is understanding what buyers want, discerning if you can help, showing what you have and helping them to make a decision that is good for their business and yours. See https://salesbabble.com I've interviewed 100s of sales experts and discuss all things sales: prospecting, qualifying, value propositions, presentations, demos, closing, generating referrals, earning references, upselling, marketing, lead generation, copywriting, and most important the right selling mindset. Stop fearing sales and embrace it. This is a production of Habanero Media https://habaneromedia.net

Today on the Leadership Tales Podcast, we've got a double header! Tom Kaden and Michael Gingerich are the co-founders of Someone To Tell It To, a non-profit organization they created to help others cultivate meaningful relationships through compassionate listening, training, and education. They support so many people who are going through trauma and difficult times. Their style is to listen in pairs which I find fascinating. Overall I love their listening-focused mission and their goal of addressing loneliness to be deeply inspiring. It's evident from hearing testimonials that Tom and Michael's approach is deeply impactful. I'm excited to be celebrating 100 episodes of Co-creating Peace! I am so grateful to all you loyal listeners & patrons for the continued success of this podcast. Many of you have reached out to me with feedback & ideas for topics; some have requested advice, communication coaching, or other services. It's been so great to connect with all of you! I look forward to our continued connection & to being of service through this podcast and my other work. Welcome to "From Drama Triangle to Circle of Empowerment" Episode #100 of Co-creating Peace.I'm delighted to have Susan Partnow join me again. While discussing Compassionate Listening in Episodes #95 & #96, Susan briefly referenced the drama triangle. Then, in Episode #97, Fleet Maull mentioned the drama triangle as well. I realized that this is a phenomenon that is so often present in conflict dynamics and so often the cause of conflict, that I need to have an episode of this podcast that focuses on the Drama Triangle so we can learn more about it and how to work constructively with our tendency to engage at that level. Happily Ever After Is Just The Beginning! – Lesli Doares, LMFT
Most people break communication down into two activities—speaking and listening. But how you do each can make all the difference in your marriage. And guess what? Very few of us actually learn how to do either effectively. What generally happens is you listen to respond. Wyn & Kate explore compassion, for ourselves and for others. They dive under the noise to see what's possible when we listen for understanding, and from that space, our need to defend and fix fall away. And what's left is connection and compassion. In today's episode, Matt and Fr. Boniface Hicks, OSB will be discussing Unbound Ministry and the Sacrament of Confession. How do these two powerful ministries fit together? This episode will be of great interest to Catholic priests, or any Catholic, and really anyone at all who's interested in conversion.Fr. Boniface Hicks is a Benedictine monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey and a Catholic priest. He's also the Director of Spiritual Formation and leads the Institute of Spiritual Formation at St. Vincent Seminary. He's co-authored two books, Spiritual Direction: A Guide for Sharing the Father's Love and Personal Prayer: A Guide for Receiving the Father's Love.A tremendous brother in Christ, he's a student of the human heart. He is both fascinated and drawn to the ways in which God's presence brings us healing in our hearts. A glimpse at some of his wisdom from this powerful interview:When we recognize the infinite dignity and the mystery of the person, when we make room in our own hearts and allow ourselves to weep with those who weep and to rejoice with those who rejoice, as Saint Paul says, when I make room in my heart to be moved- then when I find ways to express that ... just these little expressions of our presence to the person really helps them to receive... all of that provides the kind of framework in which a lot of healing can take place.(Unbound Ministry) is such a beautiful opportunity to reverence the person, to hold them in their vulnerability, and hold them as the Father does, and then help them to see this is how they are eternally loved. This is the eternal love from which they were made.
