I am thrilled to welcome Camilla Todd to The Joy of SUP Podcast. I met Cami on Instagram and loved her energy and passion for wellbeing of people and the planet. I was really keen to find out more about SUP & Soul, her wellness and water retreats. In this episode Cami talks about making a big decision at a turning point in her life to become a SUP instructor, following a difficult few years. It is really inspiring to hear how she took that leap of faith to back her herself and how the support of life coaching and her partner helped her see the opportunities before her and go for them. She really helped me understand the value of life coaching and why she is now combining it on her wellness and water retreats. Cami discovered the power of SUP in 2015 on a trip to Canada - a story I think you will love although a little hair raising! She was immediately in love with the sport. In 2019 she trained as an ASI SUP Instructor in Portugal and officially launched SUP & Soul in 2020. Here is her vision for it:“My vision is to create SUP experiences and retreats that combine the power of paddleboarding, nature and blue space with mindful practices to help enable people to care for themselves, each other and our planet. I strongly believe in the benefits of self care, compassion and finding calm in this chaotic world. I believe we can find this through reconnecting with nature and in turn we can use this connection to become nature ambassadors who will move mountains to protect what we love. That's the purpose behind SUP & Soul.”In this episode we talk about:The power of life coachingFollowing your dreams and backing yourself Feeling the fear and doing it anywayThe kindness of strangers in encouraging us to believe in ourselvesBuilding self confidenceBecoming a SUP instructor with ASI and what that entailsSUP in CanadaBlue health and blue mindHow paddleboarding allows you to see a different perspective on life + your thoughtsWater and wellness retreatsPivoting your paddleboarding business in a pandemicRediscovering the joy of play as we get olderUsing an anchor to enjoy a quiet moment on the waterBeing kind to yourself and body confidenceYou can find out more about Cami at:www.supandsoul.co.uk https://www.facebook.com/supandsouluk https://www.instagram.com/supandsouluk/Cami talks about using an anchor on her paddleboard. I'm thrilled to welcome Dr Adya Misra to The Joy of SUP Podcast. I discovered Adya on Twitter and love her passion for coaching other women in SUP + kayaking as well as her commitment to the environment. I also admire how she made a decision to change her research career so that she could incorporate SUP + coaching into her life. There are so many valuable lessons within Adya's story I am honoured to share it.Adya discovered the joy of being out on the water when she moved to Stockholm, Sweden and discovered kayaking in 2014. Being inside a research lab 24x7 left little free time to enjoy her new hobby, so a few years later she decided to change careers and get her weekends back. After kayaking for several years, and craving a challenge while living in a new city, Adya tried paddleboarding in 2019  in Ireland and a few months later bought her own board. She is a flat water kayak coach and loves leading small groups of paddlers at her local canoe club near Liverpool. In the soundbite clip she also shares her joy of paddling in the Liverpool Albert Docks.  Adya also blogs about her adventures at Gone Paddling, hoping to inspire other women with full time jobs to try paddlesports while incorporating safety advice for everyone. She is also a British Canoeing #shepaddles Club Champion hoping to improve representation of women at her local canoe club not just as members but in more leadership roles. We cover some really interesting topics around women in paddlesports from both a coaching and participation perspective. I found this really fascinating, in particular around technique and using our bodies in a more effective way. With her paddling, blogging and #shepaddles work, Adya hopes to improve gender, ethnic and neuro-diversity in the paddlesports community.Right at the end of the podcast, Adya also shares her brilliant news with us having recently become a On Planet Patrol Community Guardian. You can follow Adya on Twitter @DrAdyaMisra   You can follow her on Instagram @queenadya Read her fabulous blog Gone Paddling.Links here to find out more about British Canoeing and the #ShePaddles campaign and #ShePaddles Club Champions.Read more about On Planet Patrol.Adya talks about paddleboarding in the Albert Docks in Liverpool. I'm thrilled to welcome Michelle Ellison to the podcast today. I first met Michelle in 2018 when we paddleboarded on the Thames with Active 360 and then went to Adventure Uncovered Live. Michelle Ellison has been an adventurer, author, speaker, film producer and podcast club host since connecting with her love of the outdoors back in 2015. She has since paddle boarded the length of the River Thames for citizen science, the longest fjord in Norway, the English Channel, and more recently the width of England for mental health. Describing herself as a non-runner, cyclist and mountaineer, she took on cycling the length of the UK, running the width of the UK for mental health and suicide, and climbing the highest point in every European country. A kiwi at heart, her mantra of ‘make sh*t happen' pushes her to create new experiences for herself and others, believing in the power of connection and getting out of your comfort zone. When she's not in the outdoors you'll find Michelle scheming her latest adventure, spending hours talking to her friends and family on the phone (Covid-times), binging on Netflix and tending to her career in HR. In this episode, Michelle tells us about her exciting new venture bringing the Kula Cloth, which sounds fabulous and could make a great difference to women in the outdoors! To get more information on Michelle's projects and how you can buy your own environmentally friendly, technical antimicrobial pee cloth for your next adventure, visit www.shellsellison.com or @shells_ellison on Instagram. If you have any questions please get in touch! This episode was recorded in December 2020 when Cadi was running the #ShePaddles programme at British Canoeing. This is a programme to encourage more women + girls into paddlesports and  develop their leadership + coaching roles.#ShePaddles has a number of elements: a) The 10 Women's Paddlesports Ambassadors who share a love of paddling across their social media and blogging. b) A Sport England funded programme to develop a 100 women and girls as coaches and leaders across the country in clubs. c) the Women's Paddling Community, a 2500 strong community on Facebook where women can support each other, make new friends and build their confidence. In this episode, we talk about: how the #ShePaddles programme helped increase the numbers of women joining British Canoeing since its beginning 5 years ago when the figure was 27% female membership. In 2020 40% of the new members joining British Canoeing were women. why it is important to join BC for your Waterways License - allowing  access to 4500 kms of waterways, providing insurance + supporting campaigns such as Clear Access Clear Waters environmental work. the Paddles Up Training Opportunities and Go Paddling website + resources available at British Canoeing. On a personal level, Cadi is happiest when out running the trails with her dog Brew Dog, or wild swimming in a cold lake with friends. Nature has been a huge influence in her life and helped her through the death of a partner to suicide and the loss of her Mum to cancer last year. Her desire to chase positivity and help others find theirs has led her to qualifying as a Life Coach and she plans to use the outdoors, alongside coaching to create positive change in people's lives now she has left British Canoeing. Cadi first tried SUP many years ago but thought it was only something to be done at the beach. I'm so thrilled to introduce Sarah Blues to you. I discovered her on Instagram after I had shared details about being part of Sport England's This Girl Can campaign and Sarah commented on my post. I was struck immediately by her commitment to support other women who wanted to enjoy paddleboarding safely and comfortably and her #PaddleKitHerWay campaign. Sarah completely embodies one of the themes of the podcast that 'we rise by lifting others.'Sarah lives in Weymouth, Dorset by the beach. She grew up there and her family life revolved around the sea and the community. Her father was second coxswain on the RNLI Lifeboat and Sarah gig rowed and swam in the sea. She moved away from Weymouth for university and lived in Hertfordshire for 10 years. Her job is in marketing and communications. She returned to Weymouth just before the 1st lockdown in the UK and took up SUP in summer. She immediately fell in love with SUP and everything it gave her in terms of confidence and a place to unwind. She first thought it would be a summer sport but loved it so much that she wanted to continue in the winter months. However, as it got colder, she found it increasingly difficult to find kit that would keep her warm and safe.  Most brands only go up to a UK size 16 in women's ranges and as a UK 18 and around 6ft tall, she felt very excluded from the leading brands. They simply didn't have the range she was looking for. Sarah realised that if she was finding it difficult to get the right kit, then other women would be facing the same problem, but no one was talking about it. She set up her Instagram account @plussizepaddler to share her own story and encourage other women to share theirs. She realised that kit sizing and design was a barrier facing many women who wanted to continue to paddle in the winter months but felt they couldn't. Rather than give up, Sarah set herself a mission to campaign for kit that fits and works for women over size 16. She shares inspiring stories and is spreading her message in the media. She was recently featured on British Canoeing's channels. In this wonderful conversation, Sarah also shares how she has learned to enjoy exercise for herself and as a way to look after her body, noticing how she has improved her skills and her achievements. Her confidence has grown and she feels braver.  Sarah also talks about the impact joining a supportive club - the Dorset Race Club - has had on her life since returning to Weymouth, bringing her friendship and focus. This has inspired her to set herself a huge LEJOG SUP challenge in 2021 since recording our episode together. You can find out more on her Instagram page @plussizepaddler and her website www.plussizepaddler.com.109 Watersports is https://www.facebook.com/109watersportsDorset SUP Community https://www.facebook.com/groups/777479452629450/McConks https://mcconks.com/Thank you for listening! I'm so thrilled to share India Pearson's episode with you. I discovered her on Instagram and was struck by the light and kindness that shines through. I think you will love her too!India is a yoga + SUP Yoga teacher, presenter and founder of Fin and Flow based on the Kent Coast in Hythe. As a former dancer, India found yoga after struggling with anxiety and the unforgiving pressures that can be felt in the performance industries. After what felt like a 'mid 20's crisis' India changed her mindset and started focusing on what fuelled her soul, instead of what felt expected. She left London, moved to the Kent coast, trained as a yoga teacher and developed a passion for watersports including SUP!The more time India spent by and on the water, the more she noticed a positive impact in her own mental and physical health. Not only this, she also wanted to give back and protect the coastline, running regular beach cleans and fund-raising initiatives for environmental charities. India currently runs yoga/beach cleans for Planet Patrol and in June 2020 embarked on a solo SUP trip, to paddle board the length of the Royal Military Canal between East Sussex and Kent in 1 day whilst litter picking and raise money for a '2 Minute Beach Clean Board' on Hythe Beach. With the help of a friend and trusty mobile phone India has put together a film of her adventure, to highlight the damage litter and most importantly plastic pollution is having on our waterways.India has combined her passions together and founded Fin & Flow, a hub for like minded people to connect through wellbeing by the sea, from yoga to paddle boarding  wild swimming, walking and beach cleans.India is also a proud ambassador for Hatha Paddle Boards and #ShePaddles, an initiative run by British Canoeing that inspires women to engage in paddle sports. In this episode, India shares lots of wonderful and helpful information about SUP Yoga - from what to wear to what to expect and how it can really benefit us, meditation and mindfulness. She also tells us about her fundraising challenge for 2MinuteBeachClean and the On Planet Patrol app. There is also a brilliant story about the amazing things that can be done upcycling an old pair of waders! India gives us some insight into the British Canoeing She Paddles campaign and her dream location to paddle in the UK and her most memorable SUP moment. It was an absolute joy to talk to India and learn more about SUP Yoga. Here's to rising by lifting others, dancing on the waves and a nice cup of tea and piece of cake! You can find India here:Instagram - @with_india / @finandflowWebsite - www.finandflow.co.ukEmail - finandflowuk@gmail.comOther links she talks about are above or on Instagram - @onplanetpatrol / @2minutebeachclean / @lornadoyledesign / @british.canoeing / @hathapaddleboardsThank you for listening! Hello friends and welcome to another episode of the Sunrise Brand Collective, we are your hosts Erin Williams and Nathalie Amlani and we are so excited to wrap up our year of podcasts with a talk on Resilience in Business. If 2020 has taught us anything, it's how to be resilient in the face of adversity and discomfort. We've learned that we can't control everything and to focus on the things that we can control. Here are Nathalie's thoughts on what keeps her going during hard times:Getting into massive action has helped us get through these difficult times. Examples - brand strategy, project management.Personal development, expanded network, attending Sabrina Greer's mastermind, diving deeper into spirituality and intuition. Practicing the miracle morning routine.Evolving, updating our competency in areas of personal growth and development, learning from others how to deal with adversity, and challenge our thinking.Asking for help from coaches and people in our network. When you allow yourself to be vulnerable and ask for help, you are giving people the opportunity to serve which helps them grow.Being flexible and making adjustments to accommodate our families and the new restrictions. Learning how to quickly pivot and adjust, and not be complacent.Expanding our network by joining groups, forums, and masterminds. How to have a growth and abundance mindset so there's always room for growth. There always enough time, productivity and time management.Having the courage to speak our truth and be open and honest with the people in your life, including business partners, friends and family.Looking back, this year has given us an opportunity to explore our passions and partnership with one another even deeper. We are grateful for this discomfort because it has helped us grow not just as individuals but also as business owners. Also know that you're not alone, there is always someone willing to help you just have to ask. Sometimes things have to get out of balance to get back into balance.Celebrating wins no matter how big or small are still wins and deserve to be celebrated!
