Testosterone is more important than estrogen in women. Have I got your attention? Dr. Gary Donovitz joins me to talk about testosterone replacement therapy for men and women. He explains the importance of this hormone in women and why it's more important to focus on it before estrogen.   Benefits of Testosterone Pellets Bone Density Increase Improved Brain Function Better Mood Thicker Hair More Restful Sleep Increased Muscle Function   About Dr. Gary Donovitz Dr. Gary Donovitz is the founder and chairman of BioTE®️ Medical. He is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist. He has sought to provide each patient with compassionate high-quality care for the past 30 years.  After witnessing how bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, or BHRT, helped one of his patients, Dr. Donovitz dedicated himself to pioneering BHRT through his work with BioTE Medical.  He is an international teacher of BHRT, and his company BioTE Medical is a leading innovator in subcutaneous hormone pellet therapy.  Dr. Donovitz himself has performed more than 50,000 pellet insertions and shared the BioTE method with thousands of practitioners nationwide. He is a current fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.  Dr. Donovitz has spent his life- making wellness available for those that traditional medicine has often ignored, and his company, BioTE Medical, is changing the face of health care for us all.   Estrogen and Testosterone for Longevity and Vitality Dr. Gary Donovitz brings his wealth of knowledge in the field of hormone replacement to talk about why so many Americans need this kind of therapy as they age. Testosterone plays such a vital role in both men's and women's health, and he details exactly what role it plays in the body. Over the years, hormone replacement therapy, especially estrogen replacement, has developed a bad reputation. Gary explains why this is and how modern forms of estrogen replacement are safer. As he says, not all estrogen is equal. But, while estrogen is important for women's health, Gary argues that testosterone is actually more important - at least at first. Testosterone begins reducing earlier than estrogen. He says that it's vital to improve testosterone levels early to improve your vitality and longevity.   Symptoms and Side Effects Gary details some of the symptoms of low testosterone in women. Low mood, brain fog, and anxiousness are common symptoms. While more painful menstruation, pain during intercourse, and difficulty getting pregnant are also indications that there is some hormone imbalance. Women with PCOS who tend to have higher levels of androgens and testosterone in their younger years might be apprehensive about starting this type of hormone replacement. However, Gary assures that testosterone replacement is safe, even for women with PCOS. The only difference being that he would start pellets later in life. Americans are more likely to experience hormone imbalances than people from other continents. This is due to the number of plastics and other additives we're faced with every day. Finally, in a moment of full disclosure, we discuss the possible side effects of using testosterone pellets. Gary explains the most common side effects, from some excess hair to increased libido in women and smaller testicles and reduced sperm count in men. As with everything, knowing the possible side effects makes it easier to make an informed decision. Have you noticed any symptoms of reduced testosterone? How have you tried to improve your hormone counts naturally? Call my practice the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic today and schedule your first appointment at 319-363-0033 or find a BioTe provider who can help you optimize that testosterone.   Quotes “Estrogen is important, not just for hot flashes and vaginal dryness, but for long-term longevity. It is an important hormone.” [11:45] “Not all estrogens are created equal. That's the take-home message.” [17:51] “So many people think hormones are dangerous - but what if they're not? Patients and physicians have to be reeducated because there are all these fears about hormones and whether they're safe.” [32:15]   In This Episode Why testosterone is important for men's health [9:00] What role testosterone has in women's health [13:15] What effect different forms of estrogen replacement have on the body [17:00] Why testosterone matters more at first than estrogen [20:00] Some of the symptoms of low testosterone in menopause [21:00] How testosterone impacts women with PCOS [27:30] Why American women have more hormone reduction than women on other continents [43:50] Possible side effects of testosterone replacement therapy [50:00]   Links & Resources Use code ESTROGENDETOX for 10% off Dim Use code LIVERDETOX for 10% off Core Restore   Visit My Clinic, the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic, to find out more about testosterone pellets in Iowa. Improving your digestive health is one of the most vital things you can do to improve your overall health. By reducing your toxic load and doing regular liver detoxes, your health will start to improve. Steven Dake of Ortho Molecular Products, the creator of the Core Restore Liver Cleansing Program, speaks about what steps we can take to reduce our symptoms of toxic overload and the importance of regularly cleansing the liver.   The Four “R” Approach to Improving Gastrointestinal Health: Remove Toxins Replace Toxin Containing Foods & Products Re-establish Good Gut Health Repair & Rebalance   About Steven Dake We all have pivotal moments in our respective health journeys that mold and shape our future. For Steven Dake, this was the passing of his beloved grandfather and the exposure of his battle lost to Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  As an agent for change in the battle against chronic disease, Steven began his career working alongside several hundred functional physicians, ranging in specialty from autoimmunity and Lyme to metabolic disorders. He now has the privilege of interacting and consulting with thousands of functionally-minded practitioners.  Through all of that, Steven has garnered a vast array of best practices that he has the blessing of sharing with clinicians and their patient communities.  It gives him a great sense of purpose knowing that a single conversation with a clinician can positively impact an entire community.   Where Toxins Come From Steven Dake joins me from Ortho Molecular Products to talk about the importance of cleansing your liver regularly. He explains the four pillars of Gastrointestinal Health are: Digestion, Elimination, Establishing the Microfloral Balance, Gut Integrity, and Rebalancing. In this episode, we’re focusing on Elimination. Steven describes what toxins actually are and where they come from. For almost all of us, we’re exposed to chemicals and toxins in the products we use, the food we eat, and even the air around us. Steven states that the air inside our house is probably more likely more toxic than the air outside. On average, we’re exposed to 100 different chemicals before we even leave for work! This is why it’s so important to open the windows, even in winter, to let the air circulate.   How to Reduce Your Toxic Load Steve talks about some of the symptoms of a toxic overload, most commonly, generally feeling unwell and having brain fog. But the good news is that it’s relatively quick to start reducing these symptoms.  By changing your household and personal care products, making sure you buy organic vegetables and fruit (check out the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen), and using dedicated liver cleanse products, your toxic load will start to lower.  There are some groups of people who should not use a liver cleanse program, including pregnant women and those with liver issues, and anyone with Diabetes should be cautious. Steven explains why we should be looking to do a liver cleanse about every six months. Have you ever done a liver cleanse before? What results did you have from reducing your toxic load? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Call the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic today and schedule your first appointment at 319-363-0033.   Quotes “The average individual is exposed to 100 different toxins before they leave their house in the morning.” [8:48] “When you’re locked inside your home, especially in an environment or region of the country experiencing harsh winters, you’re locked inside with all of those toxins from cleaning agents, aerosols, hairspray, etc. All of which contribute to the environmental toxic capacity that you’re in, which is a huge concern. At the very least, air out your home!” [22:20] “You’re not going to lose weight effectively until you reduce your toxic burden. The average person carries around 14lbs of toxins with them at any given point. That’s pretty scary. But it also opens the door to reduce some of that toxic burden and set the stage for a more healthy weight in the future.” [43:55] “I would suggest that everybody take more of an active role in their healthcare journey and do more investigatory work themselves.” [46:44]   In This Episode What the pillars of Gastrointestinal (GI) health are [4:30] What toxins are and where they come from [6:15] Why you should roll your windows down while driving on the freeway [12:30] Some of the symptoms of a toxic overload [25:00] What happens when you start a liver cleanse [30:00] Why you should follow the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen guides [38:00] Who should not use the Core Restore program [41:00] How often you should cleanse your liver [46:00]   Links & Resources Check out the Why Antioxidants are Important blog and get 10% off Mitochondrial Complex with code ENERGY   Core Restore Liver Detox- Vanilla Core Restore Liver Detox- Chocolate Core Restore 14 Day Kit (Vanilla) Core Restore 14 Day Kit (Chocolate)   Documentaries to Watch Stink  The Human Experiment Living Downstream   Books to Read Silent Spring by Rachel Carson   Check out the Environmental Working Group Download the Healthy Living App Dirty Dozen Clean Fifteen   Find Steve Dake on LinkedIn   Find Ortho Molecular Products Online Follow Ortho Molecular Products on LinkedIn   Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online    Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative    Related Episodes  Episode 6: 5 Supplements Myths Pt 1 W/ Tom Houle Episode 7: 5 Supplements Myths Pt 2 W/ Tom Houle Episode 10: 5 Pillars Of A Toxin-free Lifestyle With Aimee Carlson

Testosterone is more important than estrogen in women. Have I got your attention? Dr. Gary Donovitz joins me to talk about testosterone replacement therapy for men and women. He explains the importance of this hormone in women and why it’s more important to focus on it before estrogen. Testosterone plays such a vital role in both men’s and women’s health, and he details exactly what role it plays in the body. Over the years, hormone replacement therapy, especially estrogen replacement, has developed a bad reputation. Gary explains why this is and how modern forms of estrogen replacement are safer. As he says, not all estrogen is equal. But, while estrogen is important for women’s health, Gary argues that testosterone is actually more important - at least at first. Testosterone begins reducing earlier than estrogen. He says that it’s vital to improve testosterone levels early to improve your vitality and longevity. This is due to the number of plastics and other additives we’re faced with every day. That’s the take-home message.” [17:51] “So many people think hormones are dangerous - but what if they’re not? Patients and physicians have to be reeducated because there are all these fears about hormones and whether they’re safe.” [32:15]   In This Episode Why testosterone is important for men’s health [9:00] What role testosterone has in women’s health [13:15] What effect different forms of estrogen replacement have on the body [17:00] Why testosterone matters more at first than estrogen [20:00] Some of the symptoms of low testosterone in menopause [21:00] How testosterone impacts women with PCOS [27:30] Why American women have more hormone reduction than women on other continents [43:50] Possible side effects of testosterone replacement therapy [50:00]   Links & Resources Use code ESTROGENDETOX for 10% off Dim Use code LIVERDETOX for 10% off Core Restore   Visit My Clinic, the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic, to find out more about testosterone pellets in Iowa. You don’t have to resign yourself to a loss of libido, desire, and sexual pleasure as you age. Susan Bratton, Intimacy Wellness Expert, joins me to talk about how you can start improving your hormones, increase your libido, and increase your vagina’s natural lubrication once again.   You might find sexual intercourse painful because of: Lack of or Low Libido Loss of Desire Low Levels of Arousal   About Susan Bratton Susan Bratton, Intimacy Wellness Expert is a champion and advocate for all those who desire intimacy and passion their whole long life. She is the best-selling author and publisher of lovemaking techniques, bedroom communication skills, and sexual vitality advice including Sexual Soulmates, Relationship Magic, Revive Her Drive, Ravish Him, The Steamy Sex Ed™️ Video Collection, Hormone Balancing, The Pump Guide, and Thrust-In-Time.  These are examples of the exciting variety of her 34 books and programs. Susan is an expert in intimate wellness, sexual regenerative protocols, and ageless sexuality.  You can find the Susan Bratton Show®️ on BetterLover.com, her more personal posts on Instagram, and her new sexual vitality supplements, Flow, Boost, Desire, and Drive at The20store.com.   Why We Experience Pain and Dryness Susan Bratton brings her wealth of knowledge about sexual intimacy and health for a very open and honest conversation that I think we all need to hear. She starts by explaining why so many women experience pain, discomfort, and vaginal dryness as they age. Hormones absolutely play a role in your sexual health and it’s essential that you start rebuilding your reserves. Susan shares some of her preferred techniques for increasing your hormones to improve not just your sexual health, but your overall health. It might surprise you to learn it’s not just down to your hormones. Your libido, arousal, and desire are all linked to sexual pleasure. If you’re experiencing dryness or pain, Susan recommends exploring alternatives to hormone replacement therapy to improve these areas of your sexual health.   How to Improve Your Libido One of the best things you can do to improve your sexual health is to take supplements. Susan shares her recommendations and explains why she actually started her own range of sexual health supplements. She says that at the very least, you should be taking a daily multivitamin. While you’re naturally increasing your body’s lubrication, you can use other types of lubricants to make sex more pleasurable for you. Susan explains what types of lubricants you should look for; her biggest takeaway is to look for ones that you can actually eat yourself - like avocado or almond oil. Susan also says why we shouldn’t use something like coconut or olive oil as a lubricant. Finally, we talk about some of the ways to improve your vaginal or penile tissue that will naturally loosen as you age. Susan explains some of the techniques she’s used, such as the V-Fit device, PRP injections, and O-Shots (and the P-Shot for men). What concerns do you have about your own sexual health and libido? Have you started eating more beetroot and leafy greens? Let me know in the comments on the episode page.   Quotes “Even though how lubricated we are is not correlated with how aroused we are, in our feeling in our body, it is, for a lot of us. We could be really turned on and dry as a bone if we don’t have enough nitric oxide or we could be really, really wet if we have!” [16:28] “Don’t buy any lubricant that has any ingredients that you can’t spell.” [30:05] “I had a PRP injection and an O-shot (orgasm shot) and a tear in my vagina finally repaired. Finally, between the V-Fit and the O-Shots, I was able to get my vagina back to feeling youthful and having really nice climaxes again and no painful sex.” [38:55]   In This Episode Why you might be experiencing pain during sexual intercourse [8:00] Why it’s essential to optimize your hormones for ultimate sexual health [10:00] What therapies outside of hormone replacement therapy are available to help women regain their libido [11:15] What supplements you should take to increase your libido [21:00] What type of lubrication you should use [30:00] Some of the ways to repair vaginal and penile tissue [36:45]   Links & Resources Use code MAGNESIUM for 10% off Magnesium Use code LIVERDETOX for 10% off Core Restore   How About 38 Fascinating Facts That Supercharge Your Sex Drive? Diastasis Recti is a term that is getting a lot of buzz these days (thankfully!) However with all that buzz comes some myths, misconceptions, and untruths. On today's episode we debunk some of these myths and misconceptions surrounding diastasis recti with Ashley Nowe, the Founder of Get Mom Strong. For those who may not be familiar with the term, Diastasis Recti (also referred to as "abdominal separation") is the partial or complete separation of the rectus abdominis, or “six-pack” muscles, which meet at the midline of your stomach. Diastasis occurs naturally during pregnancy in order to accommodate for the growing uterus and often resolves on its own within 6-8 weeks postpartum. However this isn't always the case, and many mothers are left with injury-based diastasis after that initial healing stage that may require rehabilitative exercises to correct. Join us as we share some of the common misconceptions surrounding this condition.Ashley Nowe is a mom of three, stepmom of two, and a pre & postnatal exercise specialist. After birthing her three children (including a set of giant twins) Ashley didn't recognize her body. She says "The twins shook my foundation, taking such a toll on my body, and my sense of self.  I struggle(d) with diastasis recti—a “separation” of the abdominal wall—but have worked hard to learn to love my stomach again in its new form and reconnect with my core. This journey set me on a mission to educate other women and to help them take back pregnancy and postpartum! Whether you are a mom to a newborn or a grown kid, it is never too late to improve your core and pelvic floor and live a life full of function and vitality." Throughout the month of May Think Fit. Be Fit. went on a deep dive of the core.  This is the 6th episode in that series.    Here’s the summary of May’s core-centric episodes: An episode all about Pilates;  why it’s a full body exercise modality and not purely abdominal focused. Link Learning motion intrinsically with the creator of the Core Restore training system. Link An expert guest, academically rooted with 35 years of experience at the highest level of kinesiology and professional sports, weighs in on the core craze. Link A Physical Therapist explains the diaphragm from her perspective and why she calls it the ‘core of the core.’ Link   All of these episodes are my attempt to think independently about exercise so that I can make the best decisions for myself, athletes and clients. There is a sad movement in fitness in which education is barely emphasized and the industry is full of time-wasting (and possibly dangerous)  fluff.  The final episode of May’s core focused episodes is a conversation on challenging the body with a tool that can give us a spectrum of resistance around the body, the KI-RO Core Trainer.   Meet my esteemed colleague and friend, Kika Mela, Co-Owner of Mela Therapeutics, Inc. and the creator of the Ki-RO Core Trainer. He has blended his educational backgrounds in MAT and Certified Personal Training to develop this one of a kind training system. This method adds the crucial missing step between therapeutic modalities and starting an exercise/fitness program; Movement!
